[Q] Modify build.prop for games? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A lot of games in the android marketplace won't download because they say the NC is not compatible. What phone manufacturer and model could I put in my build.prop that would allow me to download a game that would play on the NC?
Thanks.

about games

Hi everyone!I got a i9000 today and I wonder if I want to install some GameLoft's games,need I get the root?
Welcome to the forum!
You DON'T need to root your phone to install Gameloft's games. As Gameloft don't put their games on the Android Market, they distribute it directly from their site in apk form.
.apk is the filetype for Android apps, and can be installed from a microSD card or the Galaxy S's internal memory. Just buy the game, put it somewhere you'll remember on the phone's memory or SD card, and use an app from the Market such as 'Installer' to install the .apk file.
Make sure first to go into Settings -> Applications and tick 'Unknown sources' to let you install .apk files, but this should be ticked by default anyway I think.
There are a fair few games released this way directly from the maker's site instead of the Market. It's basically a way for the developers to not have to share any of their revenue with Google for hosting it on the Market.
The only real downside is you then aren't notified of any updates since they aren't listed in the Market up under Downloads.
Hope that helps! I think there's a thread somewhere in the forum discussing what version of each game works best on the Galaxy S since they haven't released Galaxy S-branded versions yet. If in doubt, Nexus One / Desire version is probably best.
Another reason Android's open system is great, don't have to 'jailbreak' like an iPhone to install non-appstore / market apps or games.
Rooting is mostly only for installing custom firmwares / 'roms' and messing with lower-level stuff.

[Q] How to get Amazon (kindle fire apps) to work on Cm7 or Miui?

I bought the game order & chaos kindle fire edition and I want to download the game from the amazon app store with cm7 or miui flashed on my kindle fire. Is it possible to trick the amazon app store into thinking I am running stock by changing the Build.Prop or anything? Or does anyone have a fix so I can download my (kindle fire edition) apps?
I have also read a few things that I would have to download the game then back it up with titanium, but some people say that even doing that method, gameloft games dont work.
Thanks I appreciate any help you may have.
don't think that will be possible with an other rom than stock
if you fake the fingerprint in build.prop you'r still not registered with amazon
the only possibillity i see is to flash back to stock (the prerooted image from here !!!), register, download the games and copy the apk to a save place.
if the games will work i don't know but you have them and can go further
you could try downloading them and then backing them up with titanium backup
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
I was able to back up the game, and I then restored it on cm7.
It loads the game and then needs to download 6 mb of additional data.
After finishing the download the game restarts and keeps force closing.
The only other thing I can think of is to change the build.prop back to original stock while still using cm7.
Or I wonder if the android market version would work, but I really dont want to to buy it again..!

Android Market version works fine on CM7... I used this thread for build.prop modifications.
I’m with you on this; purchased a bunch of Gameloft games during the $1 sale on the Android Market with the expectation that once I got my Kindle I would be able to play them on a Tablet as I can’t play games on my phone. After I got the Market and found out they did not show in the market or be side loaded went and purchased the Kindle additions. Have since flashed CM7 and was able to download the majority of the games from the Android Market after using the CM7 Build.Prop tweak that has been floating around but still have 2 of 8 games that after downloading additional data will tell me that I should ask for a refund because my device is not compatible. Otherwise the Build.Prop floating around for cm7 worked out.
I haz idea
could someone back theirs up and post apk link?

Gameloft MC2 and 3 and other games

Hi all,
I bought some 10 c Gameloft games on Android market during the holiday season.
my market says: device incompatible. I read somewhere that changing the density made the trick... it did not.
What is needed to make them appear? Reduce or increase the density?
I'm running Mirage cm7.2... just in case

Try editing the build.prop file in /system/ with either root explorer or ES and changing the following lines:
ro.product.model=SPH-P100
ro.product.brand=bn
ro.product.name=SPH-P100
ro.product.device=encore
ro.product.board=encore
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion:2.3.6/GRK39F/189904:user/release-keys
I have all of the gameloft games available for the market running on my NC with those settings.
Thanks! However, did not work. :
I couldn't mount /system with ES. So I did it with Total Comander and edited the build.prop in ES. I then uninstalled market updates and cleaned the saved data. Finally reboot...
do I miss something???

Build.prop

Anyone have any luck modifying the build.prop to install (supposedly) incompatible apps from the market?
If so, what lines did you edit? And to what?
Thanks

I had luck in the previous build in modifying the build.prop. After modifying it to a nexus 9, I was able to install non-TV apps. However, when I modified it, the leanback play store disappeared.... I was stuck with the traditional play store you see when you use a tablet or phone. It was really clunky to navigate & I had to use my keyboard/mouse.
I modified:
ro.product.device=
ro.product.manufacturer=
ro.product.model
ro.build.fingerprint=
I had been using the Market Helper app on my Nexus Player to simulate other devices and providers to bypass the Play Store restrictions. It worked fine on the NP running 5.0, but it crashes on 5.1. I hope someone finds a way to bypass this market restriction and a way to re-arrange the icons on the Leanback Launcher.

then as i can play a portal or halflife ?
You can install Android X86 on a virtual machine, use Market Helper on that system and buy and install the games you like. Then you can copy the appropriate APK and OBB files over to your PC and afterwards to your M.O.J.O.
and it does not detect that there is a shield ?
The games themselves usually don't care about the device's name they are running on as long as the required Android version and hardware specs are met.
