[Q] Using a MicroSD voids Warranty?! - Focus General

I just got off of the phone with AT&T tech support. I am having an issue with the buttons on my Focus randomly pressing themselves and so I called. They ran me through the usual procedures (restarting phone, updating etc) and then connected me to the Warranty dept to exchange my phone. Then they asked if I had ever used a MicroSD card, to which I replied yes. She went on to tell me using the MicroSD card, even if you were no longer using it, constitutes damage to the phone and voids its warranty.
I argued with her for a while, about how the phone CAME WITH instructions on how to use the slot and that it wasn't mentioned anywhere that it would void my warranty. She told me I could get a new phone at full price, or contact Samsung.
Was anyone else aware of this?
What should I do?

Same thing happened to me.
I even referenced the page in the online manual that states the Sandisk MicroSD Class 2 8GB card is supported, which I was using. They were absolutely no help at all and very rude about the whole thing.
The rep I talked to told me I had infected my phone with a virus because of the card. It's clear that they are quite ignorant and are following what must be a corporate mandate to void all focus that have any problems with SD card.
Bottom line people: if they ask if you use an SD card....the answer should always be: "NO, I have never put in an SD card."
Fortunately, Samsung was quite pleasant and fixed the phone for me. Only bummer was no phone for 3 weeks and their tracking system never worked so I had no idea what was happening with my phone until it showed up on my doorstep. The replaced the main circuit board. I think some have bad nand chips.

If you paid for your repair I would take this up with the store people and possible phone support escalating it each time until you get some relief.
I went to the store and specifically asked about a memory card for my phone. I showed them the sticker on the back and said that the phone MUST show it is logo'd for Windows Phone 7 and they pulled out and handed me a 16GB Class 2 memory stick. I proceeded to tell them that the phone manual said bad things could happen etc... and that it HAD to be compatible with my phone and they said "There will be no problem with this card, it will work in your phone"
If that doesnt convince you they are full of $hit then maybe this will:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...TM)+-+Black&q_sku=sku4980540#fbid=mDVcGxoCjhm
Scroll down just under the phone pic and click the "Compatible Accessories" link. Near the middle of the page is a 16GB SH card that they freaking SELL for as compatible with the device. Changing course mid stream when you have a problem is a load of crap and they need to be called on it.
Everyone should call and say that they bought the phone becaue it had expansion capabilities and the phone was misrepresented and what is AT&T going to do about it?

yeah I totally argued with her about how I wouldn't have bought the phone if I knew that the expansion capabilities would void the warranty. And im not going through Samsung, they freaking suck. Not being phoneless for three weeks over a glitch that I can deal with, and I'm not paying for it either.
I asked if there was a way that I could file a complaint about this and the chick on the phone said no. I think that I am just going to call and ask for a supervisor. Or maybe I should go into a store? Everytime I ask somebody at a store about something like this they just tell me to call tech support...

I would just call and ask for a supervisor and if you have to even say they sold you the damn card at the store. Tell them you asked if it was upgradeable and they gave you that card and you bought it.
How can they argue with that?

Sure glad I haven't had any issues like this. I have a rev1.3 model. Using a 16gb class 4 generic SDHC card. Put it in, it configured, and I now have 22GB total memory. I was mad to find that I had to buy an extra battery online somewhere. They looked at me like I was crazy at AT&T when i asked for another one. They have a million different iPhone accessories, but none for anyone else. Their stores are garbage and full of useless people who do not know squat about their phones.
I was also unaware of using a microSD card would void my warranty though. It's the reason I bought this phone...b/c at the time, there were no other new phones with that ability. Got mine late 2010. Samsung should post something about this on their site though, because this would piss me off if i had issues and needed my warranty to replace the phone.

clarify with them
They are probably confused with the surround which will void the warranty. Explain to them that you read the manual in the book it states that adding an expansion microsd card does not void the warranty. Also explain to her that the slot is user accessible.

I too was told that putting an sd card in my focus voided my warranty. I sent it into Samsung to get reflashed. Never got nodo or pre-nodo update notifications I tried all possible hacks to get it to update. Att rep was a jerk. I even talked to a supervisor. Showed them on att.com the 16gb sdcard that I bought that's certified. And they still said nothing they could do.
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

My Focus bricked itself so I got a warranty replacement. I specifically told the woman on the phone that I had never used a memory card in my phone, even though I did for about 5 months. I had read this thread and didn't want to pay $415 for a new phone that I didn't even break.
Will they be able to tell that I was using one, even though the phone is completely bricked? The people in the AT&T store actually tried putting a card into my phone and turning it on when I brought it in, I'll just blame them.

Call Samsung Canada and tell them Bell wont take it back because you dont have a receipt and would like to know where to fix your phone as it is faulty!
They should tell you where and do it for free or for cost.

Nope samsung were assholes to me. they kept saying take it to bell. bla bla bla...when clearly this issue of internal sd cards dying is at the manufacturers fault. Just because they have a contract with cell companies...it just makes it that much harder for me, people who bought the phone 2nd hand.
HOWEVER

this company in missausaga, said they maybe able to fix my phone for $80. some sort of Full Flash that they have. I am going to go to them tuesday and see what happens. wish me the best haha

i dont know what software they use or anything. if they can fix my phone, its hell alot worth it instead of paying the 450 that people are selling them for. or buying it through rogers or bell.
my guess is they have specialized software flash program andmaybe some other hardware, as their technician has worked all over with various cell companies. I only pay if i see my phone working. so yeah....worth a shot.
If I were to experience a serious issues like these...
I would ditch the phone and get me a NexusOne or something...
Instead of going through all these hassles.
What doyou think?

agreed. but right now my plan is to go tuesday see if i they can fix it (hopefully they can) if they cant. Ill buy a Capitivate or some other phone outright from Rogers, so this way ill make sure to have warranty. Never ever 2nd hand again...ive learned my mistake. Hopefully this store can fix my phone
** the store probably uses RIFF or SPT boxes which costs like $250.....its official ones that samsung uses. im hoping the store uses those for phones.
let me know how it works out
i got 2 phones sitting here with dead internal SD due the lag fix from the USA members that needs fixing and damn Bell will not accept it because they don't have an invoice, even when we are willing to pay for the repairs
which is totally and absolutely ridiculous i really hope the class action goes through

my experience trying to return my broken evo [long]

At least my conclusion is that it is broken. If at any point one of you thinks I did something wrong or there is something I can do to fix the issue, feel free to let me know.
I bought my evo sometime last year, I believe around September. I did not purchase sprint's TEP, I was content with the standard warranty and $35 repair fee if the time came. It only took me about two weeks to decide I wanted to root my phone, which I did successfully with unrevoked3. I removed bloatware with titanium backup, used setcpu, etc. and the phone worked great for a long time. I discovered rom manager soon after and tried some roms, including fresh, caulkins, cm6. I stuck with cm612 for a while and I loved it. I always cleared data before a new rom, and once I got used to the clockworkmod interface I used the cache/dalvik clear tools, as well as return the phone to factory specs feature.
Now, for as long as I remember, the phone rebooted itself unexpectedly, although it was very infrequent at first. Until about the beginning of Jan., it rebooted itself only a handful of times. It has progressed to the point where now I can't use it for more than 5 minutes without it rebooting. It will power cycle loop on the evo 4g POST screen, before android even loads. Sometimes, it will do this and stop power cycling, and simply vibrate 5 times and be unresponsive. The only way to stop this loop or the unresponsive state is the take the battery out and re-insert.
I troubleshooted as much as I could, before deciding that the issue was probably hardware related. Using the how to unroot your phone guide <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141> I unrooted the phone successfully (s-on), and loaded the original stock rom just fine. The phone still exhibited the same behavior with the stock software, so I took it to a store in Chicago a few days ago (I live in so. CA but was on vacation in Il). Anyway, I was foolish as I did not run the OTA updates to 3.7 and the tech lady told me it was happening because the phone wasn't updated. OK, my fault, even though that was a bs response.
I messed with it some more, it's still broken. So today I brought the phone to a sprint store here in CA, fully UNrooted, stock rom, updated all system updates. OTA 3.7xx, newest radios, pri, prl, profile. It is acting worse than it ever has before. I dropped the phone off and came back an hour later and the guy tells me that they reset the device and it should work now, and that I shouldn't root it as it voids my warranty. I said, how do you know it's been rooted? He replied with "our guys are really good."
So I took the phone to lunch right next door, fully stock again, and as I am logging into my google account to access the market it reboots itself again. And loops. I take it back to the sprint store and tell them look, its doing the same thing, you have completely reset it, it's not rooted, this is a problem.
Next they tell me they can't get me a replacement phone (for the $35 repair fee) because it has been rooted. I ask them to show me how they know it has been rooted, and he goes OK. He boots up my phone and one of their evos into recovery, and mine scans for the PC36IMG file and finds it. So ok, my bad again, but I say hold on a second. I took my SD card out and give the phone back. I ask them to prove to me that the phone is rooted, they try the same thing again and of course there is no difference between the phones in how they boot to recovery. Basically I press the issue further, the tech gives me some bull**** about how they can tell, if you root the phone EVER it leaves files on the phone forever. I can feel that they are lying to me, and they only know because I [foolishly] left my SD card in it as I dropped it off.
After spending about 30 minutes talking to their representatives and then about ten with the tech behind their repair center glass, he told me my only option is to talk to HTC to try and get a new phone. Mine has been red-flagged at sprint stores now for having been rooted, even though I NEVER GAVE THEM A ROOTED PHONE TO LOOK AT.
If you can't tell, i'm extremely frustrated, as my very expensive phone, on stock software and unrooted is completely useless.
Any opinions/ideas as to if 1) how I can get a replacement phone, or 2) what I have done wrong or what I can do to potentially remedy the phone?
Colin
Wow that sucks man. I know a lot of Sprint reps and almost all of them are rooted and running custom roms. I would delete the img file off of the sdcard and take it to a different Sprint store. It really depends on who you are dealing with, so try taking it to a different Sprint store if you can. If not, try to find a day where that guy isn't working lol. I'm sorry about your luck, but some people are just ridiculous.
Take to a different sprint store with a clean SD card and hope there aren't notes on the account?

Yeah, but you don't know that to actually be the case or just a scare tactic. I still say go to another store and try.
If they start talking about it being flagged on your account for being rooted, your best bet is to play dumb.

I really doubt that, I bet that is more of a scare tactic. Try what the others have said then take it to another store, you'll be fine.
So because your phone had a PC36IMG on your storage card that automatically means its been rooted? That's BS. I would call Sprint and talk to them. I would tell Sprint that you only had the file on your SD card because the phone wouldn't boot and you were trying to fix it since the store wouldn't help (the first store). When calling sprint its all in who you talk to and I always start off as nice as possible.

Yes. Like I said, I then removed my SD card and gave the phone back and asked him to show me that it has been rooted. He didnt even try, he just told me that "they know now" and that once you root "there are always files left behind" and they can always tell. I knew it was BS but they weren't giving me an inch. I was indeed very polite the whole time, while also pressing the issue.
I am pretty livid and I am almost to the point where I'd rather cancel my account then give them any more money for service.

Well I have told the computer when I first call and its asks why I'm calling I say cancel account. That will get you to someone who can actually do something. No TEP is a real downer in this case. Got another store around?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G!
@zone
yes, there are several other stores around me with repair centers. They aren't uncommon in orange county.
Another thing I forgot to mention, at the very end of the debate with the repair tech, after he told me "there are always files left behind that we can check" after it has been rooted, I asked him to explain these files to me and if he could show me, he told me no and that "he's not allowed to tell customers that."
LOL. I don't like how the sprint representatives think they can screw with their customers like that.
To expand a little more and how different stores are. I called the store and asked what their policy was on rooted phones. They said as long as it wasn't software they didn't care. So after they couldn't fix the phone (bad ear piece) they ordered another one and told me they could only give me the replacement if I brought mine back in the original unrooted state. So that's what I did. Some of these stores just seem to have some real asses working.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G!
Of course with all that said I can somewhat understand where the stores are coming from. With all these SBC kernels and overclocking they probably think you damaged the processor. I'm not taking their side I'm just saying there are all kinds of people. The problem with rooting is you could absolutely damage the phone. Again I'm not saying this is the case just looking at it from another prospective that may help you negotiate a replacement phone.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G!
Not sure if this will work but try rerooting then flash caulkins "format all" then reload a rom then flash new kernel and new radios, without 1.90 pri and nv see if that helps the reboot issue. i'd recommend Azreals stock turbo 3.70 rom. Had a friend with the axact same problem, this fixed it. I also reformatted his sd card while i was at it.
these techs know when a phone has been rooted. and yes they will flag your account for a rooted phone. my advice is to pay the fee they are asking.
Sorry to hear about your visit to the Sprint store...
1. It isn't illegal to root your phone any more. They passed a law not to long ago:
http://www.knowyourcell.com/news/548133/new_law_makes_jailbreaking_and_unlocking_legal.html
2. There is no way to tell if a phone was rooted. They are assuming that because you left the PC36IMG on your SD card. If the technician paid attention and seen you had it set in the off position, but that doesn't prove anything either.
3. Sounds like you got a guy that gets off being a jerk. Not the customer service type of person that Sprint needs working for them. Common sense says if you have the stock firmware back on the phone and it still is acting up, that the phone is defective. Not to endorse fraud, but if you nuked your phone or ran over it with your car and brought the pieces in, you would have been better off then being honest.
4. Your phone should still be under manufacturers warranty since the phone came out June 4th, so no way that have owned an EVO for a year yet.
5. I have found E-mailing to [email protected] seems to get results. Corporate wants to make things right, and they have the power to get things done.
Wish you the best of luck!
@zone
I can see where they are coming from as well. For morality's sake though, I can truthfully say I have never experimented with voltage modifying kernels or SBC kernels, etc. Only a few popular roms.
@ifly
If tomorrow I am still unsuccessful I will try more software options, although I am 95% positive it is a hardware issue. This is coming from a network engineer who is very familiar with hardware systems.
@fixxer
I was perfectly happy to pay them the $35 repair fee in order to get my replacement. I never said that I wouldn't. In fact at one point a sprint representative offered to do that, I said good, that is exactly what I came in for. She came back and said nevermind, I can't because it is rooted.
@weidnerj
Thanks for the link, and it sounds like we are on exactly the same page. Thanks for the contact, I will see what I can do with Dan.
I plan on trying another sprint store tomorrow to see if the phone is actually flagged.
Even if it is flagged I would tell them the phone wasn't rooted and hell I don't even know what that means. I have no idea were the other store even got that idea. Little white lie.

[Q] How many times will T-Mobile honor my warranty if...

...my MT4G was purchased from Craigslist? I know HTC will as long as it's still under warranty. The reason I ask is because once HTC takes in my device for repair or replacement, my warranty will only be good up to 60 or 90 days and they will only accept another exchange or repair if I run into the same problem.
The reason for wanting an exchange is because I can't transfer any files from my MT4G to my PC when I'm in Disk Mode. I've tried three different SD cards because I thought the one that came with this phone was defective but it's apparently the device itself.
To make matters worse, my buttons making noises and I have the inferior screen. The hardware imperfections do not really bother me as much as not being able to transfer files in Disk Mode since my MacBook doesn't have an SD card slot.
By the way, I'm new to the MT4G forums. My previous smartphone was an HD2.

T-Mo will not help you AFAIK. It will be "return it to the point of sale". I had to pull some teeth to get customer service on the phone to let me swap my wife's phone when the retail T-Mo store we bought it at refused to because we did not have the cardboard sleeve for the box it came in (and they would not just swap handset bodies). Lucky for me, retentions department came through for me and felt it was pretty lame of the store to treat us how they did.

I have given my phone for repair after having a look at it the woman said one of the pins for the sim card are bent.
She said it may not be covered by the warranty as it looks like you tried to force the sim card in. I said I didn't then she said she will have the engineer take a look at it and if he can't fix it on site they have to send it off.
When I got the phone on contract it came with a micro sim and an adapter to use it which is very tight and fiddly to get in so I think that's why this happened.
So I phoned my network provider and talk them to send me a full standard size sim card which they will charge me £3.75 for...

yes, me, and gotta say, my local store is really on the ball. though, you need to know your consumer rights with them because they will try it on, and not offer what is rightfully yours - as it costs them money. i had to argue a point to get what was legally mine when dealing with a cpw call centre, so don't hold back. (if you have any experience of dealing with latin companies who tend to do exactly the same, then you'll know what i mean!)
ymmv from store to store, so try a different store if you can, ask for the geek squad - who are usually real geeks and speak your language - and then explain what's going on.
calmly state your point. point out you used reasonable care and didn't force anything in like they claim, show them the adapter thing and get them to do it. is it in a case? no scratches etc to strengthen your argument. if they refuse a repair under guarantee (when it sounds like this doesn't fall outside of reasonable use so they are obliged to - under uk law, legal duty falls on the store for guarantee repairs) then explain you're not happy and ask to speak to the highest person in-store - if you're young, unfortunately it may be best to take an elder with you here - take that persons name, time, etc, and record them if you can (audio will be fine) no, you don't need permission for this, and don't let on you are because they'll stfu. if they start rambling about shop policy, your consumer rights outweigh any shop policy they can dream up to justify their point. (their shop policy is not on clear public display at time of transaction, so matter not)
calmly explain what's happened, how it came to be, and what this in-store person has said, and that you're not happy with their decision etc etc. you're a good honest person blah blah. prompt them for answers about how to resolve the situation and let them talk. there's a clear line between mistreating a £400 phone, and using it with reasonable care. ask them if they think the phone looks like it was mistreated.
if they refuse to send it off under guarantee (when they have a duty to), ask why, and either call samsung / whoever is responsible for the support for the ns and explain the store is refusing, and / or, seek a small claims court case (as final choice though as this costs about £35) for any costs involved wit hsending it back manually + cost of the filing (hence the recording to strengthen your case).
i have heard a lot of bad stuff about them too, but they're real people so treat them like it, they're just working to a tight set of guidelines by their big boss (which most of the decisions i'd probably make myself tbh).

yes, me, and gotta say, my local store is really on the ball. though, you need to know your consumer rights with them because they will try it on, and not offer what is rightfully yours - as it costs them money. i had to argue a point to get what was legally mine when dealing with a cpw call centre, so don't hold back. (if you have any experience of dealing with latin companies who tend to do exactly the same, then you'll know what i mean!)
ymmv from store to store, so try a different store if you can, ask for the geek squad - who are usually real geeks and speak your language - and then explain what's going on.

Thanks so much your info was very helpful.
The adapter is not in a case its just a flimsy piece of plastic shaped like a sim card with a hole in the middle where you you just plad your sim and insert in in your phone. It does not lock tin sim into place you have to hold the sim with one game and try and get it into the phone carefully.
Iforgot to mention before I did have a phone repaired from carphone warehouse before and it took 3 attempts for them to fix it.
Would you think this will be covered by the warranty?

Verizon Sucks!!

Ok, it all started that I went into the store to get a replacement sim card because I was stuck on 3g. Some how my phone's prl changed when I turned on my phone. The prl was 53112 in which is 3g. Now these sim cards a suppost to be free right. They would not replace it since my phone was rooted in which it violates there policy. They would not even sell me one or replace it until I returned my phone to stock an erased my internal storage to get rid of some roms I had. They said that those files were interfering with my phone in which they did not even know what they were talking about. I argued with them for 30 mins, so I got fed up and went to best buy mobile where I originally got the phone. They gave me a new sim card and it fixed the 4g issue. I told best buy the hassle that the vzw store was giving me about being rooted. Best buy don't care if your phone was rooted. They know that people root there phones, even the guy that gave me a new sim card rooted his phone and 2 other individuals. Just beware on going to the store for a new sim card if rooted. I will never go to the store for anything. Best buy will have all my business from now on. I need to stay with vzw because of there coverage. I travel a lot.

Verizon is a joke. Thankfully, I got a new sim card without them knowing my Razr HD was rooted and unlocked

I would have told them to cancel my service and buy the phone back from me because they won't make it work on their network.

the thing about this is, you knew the risks when you rooted, and you still did it...the vzw rep didn't do anything but enforce the rules to which you agreed when you signed on the dotted line, the reason the bbm rep didn't care was because he doesn't work for verizon, he works for best buy...i'm lucky enough to live near a vzw store where they don't care if you're rooted or not, and will even talk to you about rooting and what can/can't be accomplished...but as it is, this is the exception, not the rule...i'm failing to see where the vzw rep you encountered was wrong...if you didn't like the rules, you shouldn't have signed on the dotted line(btw, i'm rooted, unlocked and running a custom rom...but if something were screwed up on my phone, i'd have figured it out before i did any of this so that i could have a 100% working phone before i went in and changed things) you can call me crazy, you can call me stupid, but i'm not the one complaining about knowing the rules and breaking the rules and then when the powers that be get wind of it they refuse to help me
Yeah, it really sucks since something as trivial as a sim card should not matter. However, on principle I have to agree with Verizon as well.
The reps don't have to be technical. They don't need to be convinced. All they have to do is enforce the rules that apply to everyone.
Trust me, I'm typically the LAST person to side with a big company lol
i hate large corporations, and silly rules and laws, but if you know the rules, and agreed to the rules by signing on the dotted line, you have no one to blame but yourself when you break the rules and things go bad for you...as i said, i'm rooted, unlocked and running a custom rom, if i change something and it bricks my phone guess what? i'm out of a phone until my upgrade. i don't expect verizon or anyone else to fix my screw up.
The only reason I'm keeping up with my $6/mo insurance is in case my $400 investment is ever lost or stolen
-- Android: It's a UNIX thing. You wouldn't understand.
Ridiculous! I had my gnex rooted and rommed for the gods and had many issues causing the need for a new sim. Not once did they complain.
Now if it was technical support you were dealing with then I could understand VZW completely. Or sending your phone in for repair replacement, insurance, etc.
They are becoming tighter and tighter doing anything to make a buck. They know they have the best coverage and will continue to hit my wallet until it's cashed.
I think their financing for phones is great for those who want an upgrade but don't have any other way.
If this happens again don't go to best buy. I would call corporate and maybe see if they have some sort of a retentions department to get compensated for your trouble.

i can see it now "verizon wireless customer support, how may i help you?!" "yes, i broke the rules to which i agreed, and rooted my phone, unlocked the bootloader, and put a custom rom on my phone...and i did something wrong, and now my phone won't boot up...if you don't give me a replacement i'm going to jump ship and go to at&t" and what hte rep won't say is "oh...you'll leave if we don't give you a phone because you broke the rules and now it won't work? well here's your new device that you, yourself screwed up, and will probably screw up again and make us send you a new one" what they will say is "well, since you broke the rules to which you agreed, it'll be 599 for that new phone. oh, and if you decide you're going to jump ship to at&t that'll be 350 dollars for an early termination fee as well, have a good day"
lol when I saw the title I figured VZW screwed up like they did for me. Just prior to our upgrade I called and asked Customer Service for extra minuets because we were upgrading in a week(I asked the rep in store when looking at phones but she said call CS). The rep said "you have 100 Hurricane sandy relief minuets." Good enough..
Week later, my gf and I go in to the store and upgrade! She got an iPhone 5. I told her check it for scratch marks when the tech activated it and handed it to her. Sure enough, she pulled the protective covers off the front and back and it was scratched on the back. Well the idiot rep who upgraded us put both upgrade fees on one line. So it took 30 min or longer to get her new phone activated because they could not figure out how to cancel the previous activation/transaction because of the way he did the upgrade fees on one line!
Fast forward to the first bill. I think it was like $400 or $500. It was to high either way! Well first off we were billed a month in advance. I realize this is standard, but imo the rep should have reminded us. Typically we upgrade every ~2 years so the least VZW, ATT or any other company can do is remind you. So that explains PART of it. Here is the icing on the cake, we were billed for a voice overage because the rep who told us we had 100 Hurricane Sandy min left was in a third party over flow call center and was not authorized to tell us that we could tap in to those min. So we went over by close to 100 min. What the store rep did not tell us when we upgraded was the new share everything plan would be prorated since we were shy of our bill date by like a week. Since he did not tell us, we made the most of that week and used up almost 4GB of LTE bandwidth. So we were charged a data overage as well.
So when I call CS, the rep says he would knock off the voice overage since it was higher. However, he tried to charge us for the data still. After arguing he agreed to knock it in half. Finally after arguing more, he finally agreed to knock it off completely. to make up for all the trouble he has issued credit for both over ages and he is going to pitch in 3 accessories. I told him I was not interested in the accessories. He pushes them again at a discount price. Again, I said not interested. After further discussion he said the accessories were free and we still had credit left over plus the overage fees were wiped out. Free accessories? Why the hell not?! So I get off the phone thing everything is great and he hooked us up..
When I get my holster/kickstand case it won't fit. So I take it to a VZW third party store to see if they can get it on. He tries and then says it's bent. Call CS and they should send a new one free of charge. I call CS and they set me up a return label. After further discussion it turns out the accessories were billed to the account. I said forget this, I never asked for them. Send me a label and I will return them all rather then be charged! So she does just that.
I get the label, and ship everything back in the original packaging. Hell my gf's pos bumper case wasn't even opened because she didn't like it. I spent 2 months dealing with 10 CS agents who filled out a total of 3 "ITTS tickets." Turns out ITTS Tickets are for tracking the damn package if it is lost in transit. I told them the tracking showed it was in the warehouse in Texas since such and such date! One of the reps was a total moron. I questioned her like 5-10 min in to the convo and said look, other then accessory charges, are there any charges on the account. We go back and forth, calmly, for 45 min about late fee for this, late fee for that, fee for this, fee for that, and each time I have to say no, that was taken care of, and shes would be like oh..you're right. So 45 min in she says, well ok, can you log in to MyVZW? I said sure, and sat down at the comp. I log in, and she says you see this or that, and I am like yeah, it says credit this, or credit that. So finally I said "look besides the accessories fees, is there any other charges on the account." This time she has no choice but to say no..45 mins of bs she didn't know what she was talking about. I requested a supervisor. Waited 20 min for a supervisor. Finally she offers to have the supervisor call me back. I should have known better but I said ok..yeah no call back ever happened.
Another night I finally ask for a supervisor. This guy was far from supervisor material. The second he picekd up the phone he was trying to talk over the agent while she was getting off the line.He kept interrupting me and talking over me.I called him out on it at one point, and he said I am not talking over you or interrupting you. The next time I am talking, he does just that. Interrupts me and starts talking over me. I said I thought you said you weren't interrupting me or talking over me? I forgot what he said but he knew he was caught red handed. We went around a little bit and he finally hangs up on me for trying to stop him from babbling on about something that didn't matter.
Finally, I get some one who knows what they are doing. She did a "defill ticket" which goes to the warehouse and asks what is going on with the package and why no refund was issued. Of course she has to call me back as it takes a day or two to get an answer. She finally calls me back, and says that supposedly the accessories were not in the case! BS! One was never opened! She said she talked to her manager and because of everything I went through, they would refund me half price. I argued about how I knew one accessory, the bumper case was not even opened. I threatened to cancel service, but did no good. At this point I just wrapped it up and thanked her for her time as she did do more then any one else had. I called back a few days later and asked how much it costs to cancel service and explained what I been through over the past 2 months/10 agents later. She asks if she refunds the rest of the cost if we will stay on VZW. I think I said I would consider it, and in the end she credited the rest of the charges. We stayed with VZW but I will never trust them at their word again. The remainder of the contract is going to determine if we stay or go when it's time for a new contract. Depending on finances we may buy unsubsidized, but you want a VZW sucks story, there ya go. Can't say I feel sorry for you and your sim card situation.

Hmm actually my issues were unrelated to any modifications made to my phone and we're part of the reason Verizon decided to change how they provision their sim cards... But thanks for the input bud.
If I ever wanted to leave Verizon I would do an AOL as I have unlimited data on two lines.
Verizon likes the developer community for the most part. Can you imagine how much money they save on technical support?
I'm sure there are some who don't mod but are so smart they wouldn't dream of dialing 611...but I think the majority is different.

if you root your phone it voids the warranty...you signed on the dotted line, you rooted, you had your phone screw up(whether or not it was because you rooted is moot)...your problem, not vzws
Here is something you need to remember. Reps in stores deal with people that have no clue what they are doing all the time. Flashing ROMs incorrectly, incorrect radios, kernels, etc can and do cause service issues. If you think that a rep is going to chase their tail around when they have no clue if you know what you are doing or not then you are wrong, especially if they have no clue what they are doing when it comes to development. Troubleshooting a device that is stock is one thing, the uncontrolled variable of your non-stock ROM is another. That being said, had you came into my location you would have gotten a SIM and been on your way. If you were still locked on 3G then that would have been the end of the troubleshooting I had for you until the phone was back to stock. It is easy to point the finger and talk about how bad people "suck", but take a second to look at it through eyes other than your own.
