Random Downloading APK question

When downloading an apk to your sd. Is it best to move it to the app folder in system to install it (as opposed to installing it right on the sd card) or is there no benefit to doing so.
just install it from the SD card. When you do that, it leaves a backup of the app there (in case you need to wipe the phone) and it installs it into the data/app folder NOT the system folder. Some apps don't play well in the system folder (handcent comes to mind) and some programs exempt system apps from their function (task killers and the like)
I put it on root of SD(not required at all) then find it in astro and all goes well every time

Move apps from ext to internal memory?

Hi,
I wanted to move some apps from the ext-partition of my cm6-based rom back to the internal memory. I tried moving the apk from /sd-ext/app to /system/app with ES-File Explorer but this broke the apps (FC). Do I need to move more files or is there another trick to get this to work?
Try moving app from data app to system app. I use root explorer for this and works fine
I've got no "app" folder in my /data/ folder

If you're using estrongs I'm not sure you'd see it. Root explorer works for me but ADB is another way to do it. If you have an ext partition on SD all downloaded apps will go there but some file managers I used don't access bits of data on my SD : )

[Q] app to SD pro?

how to bypass application move protection?
i install tap tap 4 revenge it's about 4mb and i checked on app to sd pro whether i can move it to sd card and it says only on phone storage? how do i move to sd card and bypass the move to sd protection set on the application by the author???
AFAIK it has been configured in the APK somehow.. I bet there's a line like "CanBeMovedToExternalStorage=0". And if It's at 0 your android reads it as not movable to sdcard. So what you would have to do is unpack the apk and edit the config of it.
For 'forcing' it to install on your sdcard you need to open adb and type adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2
0 = let the phone decide (this is default)
1 = Internal storage (This will cause apps to install on your internal storage only)
2 = External storage (This will cause apps to install your SDCard only)
AFAIK android will automatically install an app on sdcard if that app supports it and you're running low on internal space.
Notice: Never install widgets and system apps on sdcard. It can\will cause problems. What I suggest is change that install location each time you install a game that cannot be moved to sdcard manually

ahm.. does this application call "move to sd enabler" work?? because i keep installing apps then moving them to sd card and my internal memory keeps on decreasing?? i also wipe out cache files
I think it stores some data, which takes some memory.
As for that app.. it probably does the same as that ADB command, so yeah, it should work.

Move to sd enabler works flawlessly.. Open the app and select "external"..every app you install will go to the sd card by default..make sure you move widgets to phone memory else they won't work..

[Q] Titanium Backup and External SD card issues

I have the 7" Tab 4 and am running rooted stock ROM. Have Titanium Backup pro, but there's no option to "move to SD" for any application, even ones I know can be moved to SD. Also, using the regular Android interface to move apps, sometimes they fail with an unhelpful error of "Unable to move app to SD".
Also, I tried to move my Titanium Backup folder from internal storage to the external storage. Moved it using ES File explorer to /storage/extSDCard/TitaniumBackup but TB doesn't detect it, and if I browse to it and set it as the folder, it tells me the folder is not writeable.
Have you applied the kitkat sd patch/fix and reformatted your sd? I cant remember what you need to format sd to as mine worked striaght out of its package on my tab s.

Applying the patch fixed part of the problem - TB can now write to the SD card. I didn't reformat - SD card was working otherwise and worked straight out of the box too.
Still no "move to SD" option (or the reverse) though.
Try folder mount from the play store
http://www.devasque.com/foldermount/index.html
That's has the download and has the [How to] and tips
You can use an app like rom toolbox or link2sd and it should let you move the majority to your sd card. Now some apps do not allow this period. Its how the dev had coded their app to work but if you try these it may help a bunch. I myself use the rom toolbox lite and have no problems at all!
