You're running a custom ROM with a custom kernel, having problems, and you're asking if you need to take back the tab?
Yes please take it back and get one of these here!
no I do NOT want to take it back, I refuse to get an Ipad never will I get one. I want to get this issue resolved without taking it back

Ok, let's see if I understand this.
You bought a tab, that has these issues immediately when you bought it?
Then you rooted and flashed a custom rom? Because I never would have attempted it knowing the display exhibited strange uncontrolled behavior.
Strange. I would have returned it before flashing.
Or did you buy it that way (pre flashed)? Or did it happen after flashing?
My advice, first, I would adjust the screen sensitivity settings. If that doesn't work, I would boot to recovery, do the 3 mandatory wipes, then reflash the rom. Do a nice check on things, BEFORE loading it with apps, and even then, I would load only what is necessary making sure things function before going to the next.
And stay away from apps like display adjusters and such.
If that doesn't work, try a different rom. Maybe one a little less cooked, like Harkon.
If not, and you don't want an iPad, then I may suggest an HP Touchpad. Hear rumors MS may use them to forray into the tablet business, and load windows7

Yes it had the problem when I bought it and before root and pre-flash but I figured it would go away concede I flashed a custom rom but I was wrong

And I tried like 4 different roms none have solved it same with the screen sensitivity adjustment
Should have returned it for replacement when you first noticed the problem.
Now, you'll have to return it to stock and return for a replacement.
Bad display from the factory.
had a same problem on stock 3.0.1. with some asus widgets but it desapired on stock 3.2. Then I installed Thor v14.2 the problem came back.Think it has to do with the base of his rom(Asus).
The thing with returning tab was that on stock rom its running normal.
Now I'm on honneylicious and everything works great.
Be sure to wipe everything before flashing.
I just purchased this Iconia on clearance. I brought it home, went through set up everything went fine and I love it.
Then the update thing popped up, I was like "cool" and said OK download. I waited and nothing seemed to happen.
I clicked on the third button over on the bottom (not sure what it's called) and checked what it was doing. It was not downloading. So either I get a bar with downloading and 0% out of 100% or it just dissapears when I say OK download.
It's not a deal breaker. Just annoying. Thanks.
Android version 3.1
Kernel 2.3.36.3
Build number Acer_A500_4.010.13_COM_GEN2
This may sound silly, but have you tried a full shut down, bringing it back up and trying again?
If it refuses to update then you could always root the thing, install clockworkmod and manually install an update from SDHC. That atleast works.
please check the fallowing .
Since you say that you bought the tablet on clearance..
Was it new in box and plastic wrap..
was this tablet a return. IF This is the case .. browse the app folder .. LOOK for programs like Acer Recovery Installer... Bustbox .IconiaRoot. .
these things will give you indication that the tab is rooted...
download root checker app from the market can also check for this..
if its not been rooted .. try going into settings /privacy and reset the device.. post back if you figure any of the above out. The more information you provide the easier it will be to help you get to 3.2.1 latest android system
Good Luck
It was a floor demo model, reset to "new" settings. I don't believe it was rooted since it didn't leave the store. I did powered it down and back up again. I wanted to post this before I reset the device, you said in settings/privacy? I don't mind resetting to like it was right out of the box. Thanks again for the help.
Floor Demo models are very iffy. The brutality they endure in the hands of people walking by, it's troublesome...
I did a reset, still no update love.
I called tech support for Acer and talked to two different levels of support. Basically talked me through stuff I had already tried. Force stopping and clearing cache of updater. Rebooting, turning on Bluetooth (?) Still no luck.
He wants me to let it sit and see for a few hours and gave me a number to use when I call back to set up sending it in to be fixed. He has no idea, never had this happen before.
Oh well so much for wanting an easy android tablet, without the bugginess of my rooted nookcolor. Thanks.
So the good news and the bad. Good news the tablet wasn't the problem, my internet connection was. I guess satellite internet and Acer's update servers don't get along.
I brought it back to Staples and spoke to a easy tech guy and explained what it was doing, he hooked it to their wifi and poof it started downloading. Boy did I feel stupid. So let the big patch download there and went to the free MC Donald's wifi for the following two smaller ones.
So all is good in the tablet world again, even received the case and screen protectors I ordered.
Thank you.
When I see all these posts about problems, I honestly can not relate at all because my TF101 with ICS literally has no problems at all. I've downloaded about 30 apps so far.
Other people who say they have no problems also usually mention that they did a factory reset before upgrading to ICS.
Just a coincidence?
I did and haven't had as many issues as others....some tho - tearing when expanding the recent app list, some random app crashes that I'm blaming on the apps....I did have a reboot cycle yesterday after waking up on battery from the dock...a cold boot remedied that.....other than that it's been a good update....
mines running smooooth as well, I did a full wipe so doing a factory rest didnt make sense to me. I'm running AR HD..
No factory reset for me and I'm good so far.. well I just got it back from Asus, I think they might have done one lol

full wipe does what factory reset does plus more.... so you did do factory reset. Can't believe you are taking it that literally.

Nope. And I upgraded directly from a custom ROM.
100+ apps installed before the upgrade and running great afterwards: no random reboots, battery draining or app crashing. The only issue I have is with Chrome occasionally locking up. However I attribute that to its BETA status.

Perhaps ... perhaps not. A problem-free ICS upgrade, however, is not the sole provenance of those who factory reset/full wipe.
--L.
I did a full wipe when updating to ICS. Was fine for the first few days and now I have reboots/shutdowns maybe once a day. I had battery drain once as well. Its actually been pretty good other than that but I have kept it pretty standard with only a few apps as I am waiting for some better ROMS to come out with fixes.

I did not wipe or factory reset. Have had one LOD 3 hours into sleep mode, one boot loop when I pulled out the SD card and one spontaneous reboot soon after coming out of sleep mode and rotating from landscape to portrait. Have had various Google app issues that are working themselves out.
I was prepared to wipe after I took the OTA, but haven't because I have had zero issues. I use my tf101 everyday, and it hasn't locked up or randomly rebooted once. I have about 60 apps installed.
Nope. I just hit update.
I've had the weird shutdown during sleep only once since first day update was available for USA.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
I only had an error that Android media closed out something like that for the first few days after update.
Clearing caches in my music apps seemed to work at first. Now that is back and my tf had been shutting down while in sleep. Just put it down to sleep for about 20 mins came back to Android logo on the screen with the circle froze.
It seems like this is getting worse for mine. tried everything but a wipe. Stock has not been rooted.
have always been on stock since the beginning. Never had any major issues. Was considering rooting to get cornerstone when it is stable.
Until than what other options can fix the reboots.
For some reason on honeycomb downloading something or the honeycomb status bar would always flash and mess up. I downloaded lots of stuff and tweaked it so that might be why. I wiped after coming from revolver and went to stock ICS. When it updated it was crazy slow and laggy. After every app was restored from the market I reset it and it FLEW. It just flies in terms of speed.
When I did my titanium restore I restored EVERYTHING. Not just apps but system data as well. When I did that I noticed it was slower and laggy and that notifications and download gitch was present.
I did factory reset again and only restored the app data this time and it's perfect now. No more lag or anything. Titanium back ups are fine and everything but if you were currently having lag or weird problems restoring the system settings doesn't help. I did not need them anyways. I love ICS. I really love how we get the status/notification bar that the prime has. Also the sony tablet and other tablets now have the little box markers at the top which let you know what page you are on. I'm glad we get that now as part of ICS too.
Factory reset definitely helps. Also I got to see that cool droid restoration image when it was resetting everything. I have never seen that before and it looked awesome.
no factory reset, Everything working good
This thread is complete nonsense, and to prove it, I have two TF101 tablets here. One was wiped before *and* after the ICS update, and had almost nothing reinstalled on it. The other was not wiped before *or* after. There are pretty-much no programs installed in common on both. Both are experiencing random, spontaneous reboots. Both are experiencing lockups. I've yet to see a boot loop on the one that wasn't wiped, but that's just chance -- I'm quite certain if I left it long enough, it would boot loop too, just like the one that was wiped.
horndroid loves to try and suggest this is somehow a user problem, but it's not. It's a fundamental problem of the stock Asus ICS ROM.
My result;
Normal upgrade from HC to ICS = strange behauvor and reboots.
Factory reset and upgrade to ICS = works like a dream, no big complains...
After ICS I have notice that some times ( one or maybe two times a day) screen is flash /flickering - but only for a micro second. Statusbar sometimes flickering when open, but not a big deal...
I have about 200 apps installede, many from 2 parts Market ( read Aptoide)

Yeah. It is hard not to notice this in about everyone of his replies. I am glad his works, but a growing majority of people it does not.
So i hope this anticipated fix which ASUS is rolling out NW fixes the probs-- Hum!! I seem to recall being called out as spreading rumors in another thread about the ASUS fix. - Well like i said the fix is on its way.
No wipe from rooted stock ... the odd second of screen flicker when running onskreen but nothing to cry about. All good really
My EEE Pad was running like **** (i.e. sleep of death, rapid drain, huge lag, random reboot) I have upgraded from stock 3.2 without performing factory reset.
I tried cold boot and that did not help anything.
So I took the plunge and did full wipe + cold boot. So far have not had a single issue. Just FYI.
Mine actually appears to be getting worse and worse, quickly. The stock apps are going o pieces. Google Maps repeatably crashes if I zoom in beyond a certain level, or if I enable the satellite view layer. Gmail is near-unusable -- email counts are frequently incorrect, or are correct but new emails that are visible through a web browser don't show up when you reload in the app, the app repeatably crashes when I click on certain email threads to view them, and randomly crashes at other times, sometimes within seconds of opening the app in the first place. Google Reader likewise often locks up, doesn't mark posts as read when you click on them, doesn't reload posts correctly, etc.
It's *only* the Google apps that are misbehaving; well, other than the OS itself regularly, randomly rebooting, freezing, or getting stuck in boot loops, this is.
And this is all on a stock, unrooted TF101 that has relatively few apps installed, and was wiped both before and after the ICS update.
Looks like when this new patch arrives, I'll be wiping and starting from scratch yet again, in the hopes of resolving this mess.
I just got my update to ICS 4.04 and it's made my xoom worse! Things have got really laggy, it sometimes freezes when selecting things and typing has become a nightmare again! Has anyone else experienced any problems :-(
Iam a bit annoyed now, might just go and root.

I am really stuck on what to do next, can somebody help please?
Thanks
Hmmm mine went to 4.0.4 and I was thinking the opposite! it seem alot smoother and faster
Mines seems to run slow too after the OTA, but i'm not sure if that's the tTorrent app, when it's running it makes the xoom lag out like crazy, when its off everything runs fine.

You could go into Developer settings and switch off animation or set to .5. That should help with lag. I never use live wallpaper either. A big download may also make it lag .
Well the lag didn't last long because I actually had a complete failure after installing 4.0.4. My Xoom went to sleep and would not wake up, had to do a soft reboot and then could not get passed the motorola boot screen, was stuck on it for hours! Tried to go into recovery to wipe and reset but that would not work either. Tried to push a rom image from my pc but then my xoom decided that it didn't want to be detected by my pc anymore so it looked like my xoom was bricked :-(
Luckily I had some help from some great people over at xoom forums who helped me to get it back up and working by using RSD Lite and a stock Rom SBF file.
I now have a working xoom updated to 4.0.4 with no problems at all
Not sure but I think it may have been a freak accident that just happened to me.... I just hope it doesn't happen to anyone else

Mine has gotten really bad with scrolling lately...
Seems that I can only scroll either up or down (or both) for no more than a couple seconds. Ive been able to move my finger up and down on a scroll area and it only lasts a couple seconds and seems to "lose" my finger press even though my finger never left the screen or the area. I have to wait a couple seconds before I can scroll again or else it doesnt recognize the finger press.
Sometimes I think the lags just android its never constantly smooth. You'd think dual core would be as smooth as butter but it really makes no difference. Still waiting for Google to fix it. I've had months of smoothness then the odd time something slows it down
I agree, 4.03 was great with no lag issues then nightly 90 had some lag again with scroll issues, so far on #91 I'm not having any issues. I had the biggest problem when I was trying the OC @1600, I slowed it back to 1408 interactive and all is smooth as glass:thumbup:

To all with SOD problems, you can try Wake my Android Pro from Play Store, it's free. I set it to :
i) test activity
ii) auto startup
iii) Stop Activity (Disable Invisible Wake)
I don't have any SOD for over a week now. Previously I've tried all 3.2 and ICS roms, be it stock or custom, it all has SOD problem on my A500. I'm so desperate that I even tried Wakelock from Play Store - it indeed worked getting rid of the SOD, because it keeps the CPU on all the time. The cons is the battery life is bad, even putting the tablet aside for 12 hrs used up 20% of battery.
Now I'm on Wake my Android Pro, the battery drain is only minimal. 12 hrs of standby used up a few % of battery only, it's worth it as otherwise once it goes to SOD, the battery drain is terrible on my A500, a few hours of SOD can drain up over 10% of battery.
To all those that can't get rid of SOD no matter what, give this program a try.
SOD still around? I got rid of the 500 during first month of launch mainly due to the weak Prime like wifi, but this was the other reason.
A510 is a pleasant and profound improvement from the 500.

That did not work either, back to sod.
Tried other settings and still sod. Just a tab with odd ball hardware.

Your problems are caused by a conflict with the kernel and bootloader
The best way to fix your problems is to roll back to HC this is what I did....
Civ has a nvflash package you can use
Once I got back to HC i backed up and grabbed my HC CPUID (again)
Checked ARI for bootloader and recovery versions 3.01 and cwm 1.3.4 sweet
checked my build settings and i was now running acer_7.006_Av041_031_ww blah blah blah.....OMG I got a frankenstein....I tried hard reset but ended up flashing one of the acer official stock ics roms - running apxtool to patch the BL-wiped everything then factory resetted, just for good measure...
I'm amazed how well its all running- things look fantastic- and its zippy too!!! so i'm a happy camper once again....

Sounds really interesting to try. So what bootloader and kernal are you running now.
bit of a noob
I hate to sound like a complete noob but is there a fairly fool proof DIY that I can go by to revert my tab back to the original stock from and then allow Acer to update my tablet and see if it clears the conflicts with the boot loader?
Last night I went a little down the rabbit hole trying to figure out how to convert back to honeycomb but I have to say I'm a bit lost I downloaded a bunch of stuff from blackthunders website along with the a500 manager but I'm still a bit lost and plus the acronyms are a steep curve to catch up on
Have a look at what I just posted Iconia A500 Q&A section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26490400&postcount=14
This may be useful info to deal with your SoD problem.

yep there is - you want jazzyjames rollback guide using timmyDeansV4 - 3.2.1 Gen2 that gives you SuperUser Root and cwm, custom recovery.
Some will say you dont have to unroot and flashing a stock rom will restore stock recovery , but I've never had much luck with this method
and sometimes the OTA will fail to install for any itsy bitsy reason!
So I just like to keep it clean, clean and I do it this way
So to Unroot and Get Stock Recovery -
Make sure you install Acer Recovery Installer and install the stock recovery with
this. And do this now before you unroot with Iconia Root..... you'll find apks for
both of these on these forums so just do a search......
With a reboot you should be all good for the OTA
Reboot...
Check system update and fingers crossed - click ok to download
Wait for it to do its thing....
