Is anyone else getting random lockups on their phone? it seems like no matter what rom i use it locks up at least once or twice a day. it seems that sense is the only thing that does lock up, as i cant hit the home button and have it go back to it.
anyone?
yeah, it happens to me too...to the point I have to remove the battery
Same here, it usually locks up once every 24 hours or so, and most times it's not even a full lockup, just the homescreen does. cause i can hit the windows button, and end button will lock the phone, just the main Today screen. Sometimes time fixes it, and it'll fix itself. but most times i take battery out
It all has to do with sense.....Horrible i know

I have had the same problem sense I purchased on Mar 24th, after trying to restore the devise 4 times within a 2 week period, I finally took it back and exchanged it for a new one, less than 24 hours, the new one froze up on me too. I searched through many forums such as this, and found that many users are having the same problem, I also read in one that the cause may be in the SD card that comes with the devise (the way it's formatted for use with it), so, 4 days ago, I removed the SD card, and the devise has worked flawless, no freeze ups, and for the last 2 days, I have not turned the devise off, and still no freeze ups. I plan on giving it a week, and if it does not freeze up on me, I'll put the card back in. I reformatted the SD card to get rid of the Double twist program, and the other apps such as the demo games, and put my music, Documents, and Photos back on it, hoping that it will work as a normal SD card when I put it back in.
Give it a try as I did, it just may be that simple fix everyone has been looking for.
Also, just for info, I'm running the stock USTMO ROM, with Cookies Home tab version 1.7 on it, Awesome and Flawless, if you don't want to flash a new ROM, you have got to at least install this add on.
I'll keep you posted on whether or not my test is successful or not
Same here
I've hard reset this thing, seriously, 20 times. Same setup as yours. I will try the sd card removal. Thanks for sharing the info.

Well, It's been 6 days and no freeze ups with the SD card removed, tomorrow I'll put the reformatted SD card back in and test it further, so far, so good
Here's a question: Do you think T-Mobile put the fastest SD cards on the market in this phone?
I simply changed the provided card for one that I purchased a week or so before I got the phone on launch day. No problems.
The ones Tmobile put in there are cheap class 2 cards. Reformatting the card has seemed to help. You would probably have better luck with a class 6 card. I'm going to wait till the price of the 32gig cards come down then get one.
EDIT: OK so I reformatted my card and its only showing 14gigs of storage, I know its not going to be exactly 16gigs of storage but I should have more than that. Anyone else have this issue?

droids come with a 8gb.
Still without issue, no lockups.
I also noticed that it was only 14.x gb free. i think its normal though.

I think you are wrong as she just got the phone and it definitely has a 16gb card.
defective phone
i think the ramdom lock-ups are associated with the phone and not the custom ROMs. i've flashed about 6 different TMO-US rom from here and they all lock up my phone. so they all can't be bad, right? well, the other thing i noticed was that when it did lock up, i could feel the bottom-half of the phone was hot, right below the battery cover. i think my phone is defective because if i multi-task, it gets hot then locks up. i'm going to return it for a new one. anyone else have this problem?

Well folks, I put the reformatted SD card back in, while I was scrolling through my pictures testing out the card, guess what, the devise froze up, had to reset it, about 4 hours later, while going through the pictures again, it froze up again, reset it. Then, as before, after a long charge, the phone would not wake up, had to reset again, that's 3 times sense I put the SD card back in. To test the card out thoroughly, I watched Transformer part 1 to the end, and no freeze up, so I cannot say if the SD card is bad, I'm getting ready to try a new card now.
The problem may be with the Devise's SD driver. Another thing I noticed is that with the card out, the battery lasted a good 50% longer
This is just my test, but, it seems to me the devise runs better without the SD card installed.
I'll return with an update after the new SD card test run
****Update: Tried the new SD card, the devise froze up while scrolling through the pictures. I don't believe it's the SD cards, seems like a glitch in the SD hardware or the SD driver. My devise works just fine without the SD card installed, who would think that it may be the SD drivers causing the freeze ups. I wonder how long it will take for HTC or WinMo to accept and fix the problem.
Is there a developer on this thread that can come up with a fix, or a better SD driver software?

Same here, the back of my phone would be hot as well, try removing the SD card for a few days, as I did, and see if your phone stops freezing up, mine seems to work great without the card installed, and the battery last longer.
will buy a new one and see
i def think its the card, maybe it gets hot when you charge/ run heavy apps like wifi and when it goes to read the card it miss reads and freezes, cause i install all apps on my card as to not clutter the fone just yet, i will def be buying a new sdcard and probably swapping out cards hahaha and returning old stock one. hahah thus having a sweet better class 16g card for free
I get frequent lockups with Sense, but when I switch to the standard Winmo interface, it never locks up. I don't think it's the memory card as much as HTC's sense.
lock up exiting messaging
I have had the phone since the 14th, I am running the stock T-Mobile USA rom (not flashing another rom until I decide if I'm going to keep the phone) The only time that I have had the phone lock up is when exiting the messaging tab on Sense.
It seems to have started after I updated the myphone application in order to back up text messages.
Can anyone else who has an Xperia Play help me out here? I got the phone this past Tuesday. At that time, it loaded up rather quickly. Now when I turn it on, it takes over 3 minutes to load up. I literally turned my Nexus S on at the same time and I could have powered it on and off 3 times in the amount it took for the Play to load. It sat on the Sony Ericsson screen for like 2 minutes and then another 1 minute after the SE circle logo appeared.
A few details:
1. I am currently in the US on vacation using my Japanese SIM card. Thus I am roaming. The data is turned off however the phone network obviously isn't. When the SIM is out of the unit it loads up much faster.
2. The phone is not rooted.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way to check if there is so kind of malicious program or something that was installed?
My xperia start up load time is aproximated to 3 minutes too.
Jep, same here. The OS is verry fast after the 3 min boot...
It takes a while to boot. Samsung I know have been targeting efforts to get the boot faster. Top of my head I remember them talking about trying to get the fastest boot time on the galaxy II.

I believe some Samsung and HTC phones are not actually "rebooting". They are going into some sort of hibernate.
My buddy has an HTC mytouch, and he was having crummy performance. I looked at his uptime, an it was over 1500 hours. I told him that's his problem, he should probably reboot.
When he did, I noticed it rebooted very fast. Performance was still in the crapper, and curiosity had ne check his uptime even tho it should have been reset after the reboot. It was still at over 1500 hrs. Then I realized it didn't actually reboot, just went into a hibernate explaininng the blistering fast reboot time.

WOW...so everyone else is having this issue as well? But it must have something to do with the amount of free storage on the phone, because when it was over 100MB it loaded up much quicker I've noticed.
Also on a side note, with respect to phones and hibernation...
My Desire HD has this issue. If you select "Shut Down" then it takes about all of 10 seconds to start back up. Yet if you select "Reboot" it takes almost as long as the Play. Clearly shut down is hibernation, especially since if applications have crashed or stopped working, shut down does absolutely nothing and thus I need to literally reboot to get them running again.
Finally, in my thinking there was something wrong with my Play, I formatted both the memory and the SD card. Can anyone confirm what was pre-installed on the SD card that I have lost? I noticed Crash Bandicoot was stored there but it can be re-downloaded simply by running the application. I know there are some sample pictures and music and possibly video as well, but anything important?

Samsung and HTC 'cheat' quite a bit when it comes to startup times. If you compare the time the Nexus One take with that of the Desire, the Desire is much faster, despite the hardware being the same. The same holds true with the Galaxy S and Nexus S.
From my experience with the Nexus S, I'd say the Play is VERY close to Stock Android 2.3.2. Sony Ericsson just added a few apps here and there and skinned the UI a little, but it feels, works and behaves a lot like the 2.3.2 on the Nexus S. Sooo... I'd say the long boot time is normal, and probably for the best for the device.
boot times are about 3 min as well.... however I find this to be a non-issue to me.
how often are you rebooting your phone though? Mine might go for weeks without being restarted... pending battery doesn't die on me of course

Just to ease your mind both my Motorola phones the X and OG were a couple min to boot up.

I noticed the boot times too, expecially since I don't really charge it much, I run it out and swap batteries as I have an excellent spare battery and charger also know as an x10 alway 3 minutes or so though, probably part due to drm checks, and part due to the storage almost full and it having to go through all the apps and initialize them.
To be honoust i have the phone for a few weeks now and only turned it off and then on for a few times. Boot time doesnt actually bother me.
Hi, I've have my VS995 for a while and it's been running perfectly. I'm currently rooted, running Alpha Rom (1BA revision) and the mk2000 BTTF Beta 1 kernel. In the last month or so I've noticed anything that has to hit storage -- either internal OR SD-- is starting to get really slow to get started. For example, if I am opening the camera, it takes a while (5-10 seconds) to open because it's reading the gallery.. if I am reading through Twitter and saving some pictures, sometimes it takes so long to save it crashes my Twitter client! But then once I get a successful save, everything is fine for a while -- but if I stop using it, it goes back to sleep. I.e., once storage is being accessed, it seems fine for a while-- if I start skimming through the gallery, open the camera back to back, save a group of files-- everything is fine. But if I let it sit for a minute or so, I'm back to super slow access times. It's almost like waiting for a spinning disk hard drive to spin back up after being asleep. Because of that I'm thinking it's not likely to be a hardware fault, just a setting or something is messed up.
Can someone point me to where to even start troubleshooting this? Since it happens on internal storage too I don't think it's anything with my SD card. Is this likely something in the kernel or the ROM itself? Could it be like a setting in the kernel? I've tried all of the different IO Schedulers with very little difference...
Thanks!
SD-Card going bad?
If it is a SanDisk, that would be my bet. I have had so many problems with SanDisk Media on many different devices and computers I gave up on SanDisk...
Yeah, I've had tons of trouble with Sandisk (and avoid them entirely, they're the only brand that's ever flat out died on me-- and multiple times!) but this seems to be impacting ANY storage access, not just the SD card... I guess I could try it with the card out entirely just to see what happens... (it's a Samsung 128gb EVO-- I almost always go with their Pro cards for phones but I bought this when Pro disappeared for a few months)
