adhoc wifi with transformer - Eee Pad Transformer General

just got transformer yesterday and noticed that i cannot use my wireless teather for root user app however i can use wifi widget app so what i am thinking is that it is a adhoc network issue so is there a hack for the asus transformer to be able to connect to a adhoc network?? or does 3.1 have that have not yet recieved my update that is another issue that is not making me so happy as well.

HELP!!! Wifi on my Xoom can't connect to a wireless network...

Hi. Can someone please post their original "wpa_supplicant" file in the /system/bin/ folder? I was tinkering with mine to enable wireless tethering on my Xoom Wifi and thought I backed it up, but realized that I backed up the wrong file. Thanks a lot!
SOLVED!!!
Went into the Developer section (I know...should have done this before posting...was running late for work and wasn't thinking). Someone posted an image that I downloaded and pushed onto my Xoom using ADB (don't just copy/paste using RootExplorer...that doesn't work. You need to connect your Xoom to your machine and push it onto your device). Turned Wifi back on and it's connecting without a problem (still can't see Ad-Hoc networks though...)

Yeah, I can't either. I'm hoping an experienced dev can help me out. I am trying to wireless tether my phone to my wifi xoom, but the only way I can do it is through ad-hoc networks.
If the xoom can see ad-hoc networks, I'm all set!
wifi tether/xoom
Hey,
Adhoc not yet. I have D1 rooted. Wifi tether. Switched to bluetooth tether. Works nice. Xoom not rooted yet.

[Q] is there anyway to tether from my X10 Mini Pro to my Transformer?

I'm giving up :-(
I tried all kind of things but seems that's impossible to share my 3G connection from my SE X10 mini pro to my Transformer 16Gb (updated to 3.1):
this is what I learned:
- using barnacle app is not working because android 3.1 cannot see ad-hoc WIFI spot, i wish someone can customize 3.1 FW to get this function implemented (there should be some kind of WPA-supplicant to add to the FW)
- apps like PDAnet and Easy tether don't work either!
- using wifi tether is no point bacause the X10MP kernel doesn't support netfilter, and it doesn't seem to be any X10MP rom that support this thing (if anyone knows one, please tell me, now I'm using MiniCM based on Froyo 2.2.1 with Kernel [email protected]#1)
anyone had any luck in tethering these two devices?
Thanks in advance.
What happens eveytime you try to connect? Have you tried using the "wireless tether" app?

yes i tried the wireless tether app but i get the "No Netfilter! Sorry, but your kernel does not have all necessary features for running this application", if i skip this message i can pair the two devices (via BT) and see the tethering service available on my X10 MP, but the problem is i cannot connect to the net... because of the net filter error.
exactly! ad hoc networks are not visible either in 3.0.1 or 3.1
finally i succeed in tethering with my ASUS Transformer and X10 Mini Pro
using barnacle wifi tether (http://it.appbrain.com/app/barnacle-wifi-tether/net.szym.barnacle)
and those guides:
PRIMORDIAL 3.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106587)
and
WPA_SUPPLICANT (http://www.android-support.com/guide-enable-ad-hoc-tethering-on-your-transformer-needs-root/)
now i'm rooted, tethered and happy
if you root your mini pro you can download quick settings and get the wifi hot spot option..rooting mini pro is a whole lot easier than the TF.

[Q] Transformer not seeing wireless tether ssid?

I am running Primordial 3.1.
I have an Xperia X10 that I use to wirelessly tether to my laptop using Barnacle and that laptop sees the ssid fine and connects to it.
But my Transformer does not see the ssid and if I manually input it, it still doesn't see it.
Is it a Honeycomb thing or is something wrong?
Thanks guys
It's a honeycomb thing. It can't see ad-hoc connections. You could try Bluetooth instead, or there is a workaround for the transformer I think.

It's more an Android thing really, as it is true of all earlier versions too.
Regards,
Dave
I also use an x10 with barnacle and adhoc tethering works after you patch it on the TF
Go to the Ultimate Transformer Information sticky in this forum and follow the link to enabling adhoc.
Needs root and adb of course

wifi tethering without rooting the transfomer.

Using the above app and having root on the phone, you can wifi tether asus transformer that is not rooted. There are a few errors, but all and all it does work.
It depends on the phone's hotspot. When I first got my TF and non root, I tether to my N1 jsut fine. The TF just see my N1's hot spot as another wifi AP.
curious.. why would you want to tether your ASUS TF101?
the TF101 only has WIFI unless yuo habve the TF101G with the simcard slot.
the only time i could see you tethering your TF101 is if you had a mobile data service plan on it and you coudl share that with other devices and laptops.
if you just have the standard TF101 with wifi only and you tether it that seems like waste sharing the Wifi connection that other devices could easily just connect to anyways with out connecting through the TF101.
now since i have a samsung vibrant from Tmobile i do enable tethering on my phone and thne i connect my TF101 to my Samsung vibrant so that i can use it on the road but i jst dont see why anyone would want to enable tethering on a wifi only device.
i do notice that in wireless setup it has the option to enable hotspot but that makes no sense. why would i want to enable people to connect to my wifi only device that i am already getting wifi from somewhere else?
seems like an option that was meant to be on the TF101G but they left it enabled on the standard TF101
If I recall correctly, tethering is built in to Froyo and later as long as your carrier hasn't disabled it in their build for your phone. Or are you talking about something different?
I have a Nexus 1 also, tethering is not a problem with it because it simply acts as a regular wifi hotspot, the problem is if you have a phone that will only send out an adhoc wifi spot (like a symbian phone for example). The non-rooted transformer and other Android devices can not pick up an adhoc connection, unlike laptops and iOS devices which have no problem with them.
Add me to the don't understand list. I tether all sorts of device including unrooted transformer, iPad2, etc. to my rooted Evo.
my nexus tethers without root
This is an issue? My TF works perfectly with my Vision/DesireZ/G2 no problem.
What I'd REALLY like to see is a working USB tether. It seems dumb that I have to setup a Wifi hotspot then plug my phone into my TF in order to charge (since using the hotspot gobbles battery)

[Q] Problem connecting tethered network

I'm tethering a connection with my Xperia X10 using 'Wifi Tether for root users' app. I'm sure it work's fine cause I'm able to connect to this network via laptop or another android phone. What I'm not able to do is connect to this network from my Transformer. I click on the network and it just changes the state to Remembered but it won't connect to it no matter how many times I cick the thing.
Have any of you managed to solve this already?
I'm running an official ICS, no root or stuff. Completly clean.
What type of hotspot is it putting out? Ad hoc?
I think so
I don't know if it can help, but the issue you describe is exactly the one I had when I used my HTC Sensation (with any ICS custom ROM) as a Wifi AP : I could browse the web from any peripheral connected to the "HTC Portable Hotspot"... except from my TF101 !
I thought the problem came from the TF101 itself (and I'm still thinking it...), but curiously I solved it by flashing my HTC Sensation back to stock ROM (Android 2.3.4) !
Now my TF101 can browse the web through my Sensation like any other device...
I'm still thinking it's Transformer. I was flashing several softs before I started posting. It was always only the bloody transformer that couldn't connect... funny thing is that exactly week ago on the exactly same ICS I've managed to connect. Then it started to fail.
I thin your router needs to support Infrastructure and not adhoc networks to work wth the transformer.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Dude - it's a phone, not a router. It supports ad-hoc only. And as I said - it worked ocassionally. Myabe it's a reason to call a guarantee services?
if your TF is already rooted, then try the free app wifiadhocenabler from the market. i used this for my galaxy s2 because samsung disabled adhoc connections.
I can connect to my x10 just fine using the native tethering (via settings). I am still on HC though...

I'm just a user, but I had the same problem when I was running Gingerbread on my HTC Legend. Now, there aren't really any proper drivers for that on Gingerbread, so it was done ad-hoc. When I updated to ICS on the TF101 it lost the ability to connect to ad-hoc hotspots. Installing a ROM that uses Froyo fixed it.
I think Prime users faced the same issue, but managed to enable ad-hoc support. Root on the tablet was of course needed.
This is really weird. One day it's connecting and week later it's not. And I haven't been changing ROM since then (neither on the phone or transformer)
Ad-hoc wireless support was supposed to be fixed in the latest .17 ICS update; however, I am still unable to use my TF101 to connect to an ad-hoc network.
