I can't tell from reviews and can't find info anywhere that confirms whether or not the galaxy 10.1 had an oleophobic coating on the screen. Does anyone that have experience with this care to comment?

Is this the coating that makes the glass feel super smooth? I loved this on my iPad, really miss it on the Transformer. Xoom didn't have it either.

Yes and it repels fingerprints and makes them very easy to wipe off. Granted the coating wears off after about a year. But I replace my devices every year and it would be nice to have. The transformer is a smudgy mess after an hour and the prints are very hard to get off.

I know the 10.1v does not have this coating... It is a massive finger print magnet. My wifes iPad is awesome... my 10.1v tab looks like it is covered in mud compared to hers I still dont care though... nothing a little LCD cleaner and a lint free cloth doesnt fix.

I have a iPad and a Transformer. It's SOOO MUCH easier to clean finger prints off the iPad. One gentle swipe does it most of the time. The Transformer without the coating, I got to really buff it hard to get finger prints off.
No the version released at I/O is a fingerprint magnet. Try Nu-Screen. I reviewed it here on my xoom; and have since put it on the Tab.. makes a huge difference.

How long does the Nu-Screen last or how often do you find yourself reapplying (if you had the need to already)?

thanks man.. gonna have to give that a try
I guess the IO Tab didn't have it, but does the production model have it?
I just got one and to me it seems like the glass is smoother and the finger prints do wipe away much easier on this Galaxy Tab 10.1 than it did on my Transformer that definitely had nothing on it's glass.
others have tried rain-x on other tablets. i've used on my archos and nook color. it makes cleaning a heck of a lot easier.
Here's a tip from the viewsonic g-tablet forum guys.. get a little rain-x. I own a g-tablet as well as a galaxy tab 10.1, and rain-x solves 90% of my fingerprint problems. You have to reapply a coat every few months depending on use, but a bottle is $5-7 and works wonders.

Not sure if anyone has noticed this yet, but I noticed when cleaning my transformer that the capacitive screen still works even through thick tissues, so if you've just cleaned your screen and don't want to get greasy pawprints all over it again, wrap a tissue around your finger, and prod away!
I'm just gonna buy a matte screen protector, i ordered one that's made for the galaxy 10.1, i am sure it wont fit perfect, but it should at least cover the viewable/touchable area.

Yeah, but latex won't slide as well as fabric or plastic ... unless you lube the screen first LMAO!
Well, I don't know about wrapping tissue around my hand to use the tablet... you could just get a screen protector FOR the transformer with lifetime replacements!!!

When it says leave the device off for 24 hours, is that before or after you put the shield on? I can't see why it'd be before, but just curious.
Also, anyone have any special warnings before I apply this thing?
it's after you put it on to let it cure. It's going to feel weird spraying liquid on your screen to set the protector, but it does work. I've only used the Zagg on the body part of my devices, it seemed to "sticky" for the screen for me. I generally like the Zagg shield. I've had one on the body of my Archos A5IT for over a year. I might try it on the Acer screen.
edit: oh... and just realize you have time to play with it for the first few minutes to get everything smoothed out and a lot of the tiny bubbles will disappear as it sets, but after you get it set, you can't take it off and reposition it the next day.
Went ahead and slapped it on. Yea, I took a moment to align the camera hole and then squeegeed it on. A couple of microbubbles, but they state that will disappear as it cures.
Now to poke around on my gtab while this thing cures.
Curing is for sissies.
Just installed mine... it's in the case and I'm typing away!

Care to explain why? Does it solve glare issue? Fingerprints? Do you sacrifice any display quality?

Cuts glare dramatically, fingerprints greatly reduced. I think the display quality is marginally subdued. Make sure you put it on correctly and get the bubbles out - the wetter the better.

I bought my tab at a full best buy store.. they did not have screen protectors.. Not even the tab on display.
I took it into a best buy mobile site and paid the 31 bux for the screen protector, but I went ahead and paid them 14.99 to install it.. I figured, what the hell, I just paid 480 for it (after tax), so another 45 bux is worth it.
took only about 1 day for it to fully cure and the last little micro line to come out. other than it is a little tactile orange peel feel to it (all zaggs have this), and your finger may drag a little, it is well worth it.
Let the finger prints get on the shield and not your screen.. just wipe them off.
I love the tablet!
I'm loving it, it might be a bit better glarewise, but not much. The big thing for me is I don't feel like I'm touching my filthy fingers on a pristine piece of virgin glass anymore. I don't have to wash my hands every 30m of tablet use.
I never got a protector for my Viewsonic Gtablet and never got a scratch. Same usage patterns with the A500 and I got a small scratch 3 days in. Returned it to best buy for an exchange and got the protector this time. Dunno if the crystal is different in the 2 models or I just got unlucky with the A500, but there you go.
I use it on all of my devices.

I was pretty clear I wanted/needed a screen protector.
I carried the thing into the box into the mobile site to have them install the protector. I did not take the factory protector off, I let them do it..
I really like the protector, but, it can be a fingerprint magnet, but it wipes off easy enough.

I thought I read that the A500 has Corning Gorilla Glass. Does that mean it's less likely to break, but still susceptible to scratching?

it's actually the other way around.
It will break easier than it should scratch.
Gorilla Glass shatters like crazy if you drop somethign on it (i saw it happen).
Day to day scratches should not happen. I don't want to test that theory, mind you.
I don't have a protector on it yet, not sure if i will.
The feel of naked glass is just sooo pleasing.
This thing has such a great display, I don't want to subdue it at all with a screen protector. My phone has gorilla glass as well, and I've dropped that from 3 feet onto concrete multiple times (on accident), and the display is still flawless, so I am confident I won't get any scratches on this.

Zagg protectors are different depending on which device they are used.
The protector for the A500 feels pretty rubbery and is very "orange peel-y" whereas the Zagg on my wife's iPad is a lot smoother in both respects. It's so much easier to glide your finger over the Zagg on the iPad than it is on the A500, I might replace the A500 one with one from the iPad!
Both protectors produce a light shimmery effect and definitely reduce the wow factor on both screens so that's a disappointment but they both greatly reduce glare and fingerprints which is a big plus.
Unfortunately, it's a set of compromises you have to accept when using them.
Samsung should have done a back cover that extented through the whole phone's back, the bump in the lower part gets scratched very easily, am i the only one? and yeah i dont use a case on my phone, a cover plate destroys the slim figure of the phone
The "bump" on the bottom of the phone does actually get a lot of scratches

It's because of this I bought a "case-mate barely there" case.
I've never had a case before and didn't want one for this phone because I didn't want to loose the thinness either. Very glad I did though. The phone is still very thin and (on the black case) has a nice matt, slightly grippy texture which I personally find preferable to the standard backing.

Looks real good, but it's a little expensive, is it worth it?
is the touch still fully functional now ?
I see this thread and shake my head.
Getting a decent case is the first step to protecting a phone that you just spend a lot of money on. It might make it a little less thinner, but it will offer better grip and allows you stop babying every time you set in the table.
As for the dude that broke the glass, that was probably like the one weak spot. GorillaGlass isn't supposed to scratch or crack. Just avoid putting the phone in the same pocket as your keys and you shouldn't need to waste money on a screen protector.
This thread is painful.

gorilla glass is NOT scratch proof, keys won't damage the screen but dust will , the kind of dust/dirt that it's usually on people's pockets
I only ever keep it in a pocket without keys or anything else so never worry about a case.
The phone was on the floor next to my chair charging up while i was watching tv, knocked a fork off the coffee table and you guessed it, right on the phone.
No screen protector is gonna protect against that happening lol.
Everything is working fine actually. just feels a bit iffy when sliding over the long cracks in the glass.
Will be going in for new screen under insurance claim as soon as i been on my hols. so stuck with it like this for a few weeks.
Where can I get one from?
and why?
Because
They are a pain in the ass to put on. Almost always higher friction. Slight dimming factor. And never had problems with scratched screens. So, nope.

Can just say, me too - I hate this little "blows" in this screen protector and folded with de dock there is no danger of scratches, so definitely no reason to put on one and fail
Opted not to use one as I really didn't see a need for one.

Hmm... Perhaps I'll need one with the silicone sleeve I've been wanting to buy but not sure.

I'm extremely paranoid about scratches. I got a small one and now I use a protector! I am using the armor suit protector its absolutely fantastic!! I barely even feel that it is there I can still use my capacitive stylus.
I am looking to get a skinomi tech in the future to help protect the back from scratches too along with giving it a bit of visual flair
I use the armorsuit, no dimming of screen, durable as heck, there is a little more friction, but worth it. Why do I use it? Because it's easy to put on right the first time because it uses liquid to position. Plus the Decal Girl skin went on over it and is great.

nope, i have the dock and a soft case i keep it in either with or without the dock.
main reason is i cant find any in my city in Canada here and i cant be bothered to order online.
If i found a nice one that fits this screen in town id get it probably.
Never had a screen protector on my OG transformer, and I love how naked screen feels, kind of miss it on my gs3 lol
Yes, I have the ZAGG protector for the front and the back. I am happy that it is being protected from scratches, but it is SO much more difficult to apply than a phone because of the size, and I got fingerprints on the adhesive side.
I want to take it off, because there are two permanent bubbles, but since I paid for it, I might as well leave it. I may take it off if/when I get my dock.

Dude if you have a Zagg you have a lifetime warranty..just email them from the support section of their site, tell them that the protector is starting to peel at the edges or it has gone all yellow tinted or something, and they will send you a brand new set under the warranty!

No need to wait 24h and mess with the wet applied..)
I never use a screen protector on my phones. I've never liked the feel, and I don't drop or throw my phones around.
All my past phones have been covered in fingerprints and smudges 99.9% of the time. They were also a huge pain in the ass to clean.
However, the Note 3 has been the first phone that picks up fingerprints that simply wipe off with one swipe across my pant leg. Am I just crazy or is this phone just way easier to clean than others? Anyone else pleasantly surprised in the same way I was?

Its a nano coating on the glass. Sadly however it will wear off over time (about 4 months). Supposedly you can reapply the coating yourself, but I don't have any idea how well that works.
