[Q] bring status bar back - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using CM7 nightly 87 build. Whenever I run gameboid, I always hide the status bar but I can't get to reappear again.
Is there a way to bring it back or setup a soft key to bring it back?
Thanks!

Go into cyanogen settings and then tablet tweaks, you can set a physical button to bring it back, i suggest a volume button

[Q] How do you handle not having a menu button?

Many uses I'm missing out on. Example if I'm browsing a site and want to open another window, what do I do?
Or
While in any app how would I access the menu or option settings?
What ROM are you using? If it's stock B&N software, is it rooted?
If you're using CyanogenMod, then you can turn on a set of buttons in the status bar that will replace the missing hardware buttons, much like on a Honeycomb device. It's in the Settings menu under Tablet Tweaks.
If you're using stock, you can install an app called SoftKeys or Button Savior and have it pop up a set of on-screen keys (menu, search, back, home, etc) whenever you press the "n" hardware button. You won't be able to install either unless you've rooted the device first, though.
Two applications: Button Savior or Soft Keys
I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm a big fan of zMooth.
You could also search for Nook Color keysmod and remap one of your volume buttons as Menu.
Keysmod is what works best. You'll have both menu and back buttons that's so convenient especially in landscape. Partner it with recent plus for adjusting volumes in-game and invisibright whenever you can pull up your notification bar.

I use "Virtual Button Bar" in MIUI. it can be set to extend the buttons from a trigger point, or to be permanently extended and float.

[Q] How to hide the bar with the menu, search, and home buttons?

I hid it one time while trying to watch a movie on MX Player, but I can't seem to replicate how I did it. Does anyone know how? This goes for all apps too
When an app asks for full screen a down arrow button appears in the bar, if you press it you can hit the bar, and to get it back long press power button to get menu and back buttons in the context menu.. (That goes for CM7)

[Q] disable "hide status bar" button on cm7

I have cm7.2 with tablet tweaks for soft buttons on the status bar. I want the status bar always on. The hide button (far right) pops up and disappears intermittently.
Is there any way to turn off the hide button permanently? When it pops up, it shifts all of :he other status bar content to the left, which is distracting. Also sometimes it pops up suddenly right as I go to press the notification button and then I accidentally hide the status bar because the hide button suddenly appears where the notification button was.
Can't find anything in cyanogenmod settings. Someone help?
Is there no way to do this?
There's no way to do this. There are some applications that expect true full screen. In Honeycomb and ICS the OS itself removes the status bar/soft key area from the available screen real estate and "dims" the contents of the status bar when an application requests full screen.
In Gingerbread (the basis for CM7), this isn't available in the core OS, so Mad Murdock (the developer of TabletTweaks) implemented the best solution he could...basically the ability to suppress full screen for apps that can adapt that that and otherwise to give the user a chance to enter and leave full screen.
There are still bugs in this implementation because of the limited hooks for intercepting these full screen requests and switches in and out of full screen. As a result, you'll see some apps that don't look quite right when this feature is enabled even when you go full screen, and you'll also see that sometimes the full screen soft key gets into a confused state and displays when it shouldn't and vice-versa. This can ultimately lead to an FC in the StatusBar process.
What I do is turn off the "Disable full screen" feature under CM7 and use either Button Savior or the extended Power Menu buttons (mostly Button Savior these days) to provide access to Home/Back/Menu when an app runs full screen. It's not a perfect solution, but it's more stable and still gives me non-intrusive access to soft keys.
That's a fair enough solution. I do see the FCs often for statusbar. Thanks for the input.

[Q] about cm7's status bar

hmm, how 's the way i should ask.....forgive my language not so well......
my problem is: when i full screen for gaming, the cm7's status bar will hide down, and when i want to exit the game but the game dont have exit button. i dont know how to get back the status bar (back) from hidden.......
and every times exit the game i have to press on/off button and release the ram memory by 360* (*a widget from china made anti virus) then the game will erase and exit.
Install a app such a zmooth. It puts a little touchpad at the bottom of your screen, where you can use 3 gestures for home, menu and back. Works in all windows, such as fullscreen games or apps.

thx to you~!!! dude, it's working~
Menu> settings> cyanogenmod settings> tablet tweaks> disable fullscreen
Choose the other softbuttons you want here too, like a home button on the notification bar!
Otherwise, choose power buttons menu and add a back button... Home button is on the power screen by default.

Be aware that disabling fullscreen may cause UI issues on some games and apps where the controls and text get mashed together. Real Racing 2 on mine had the controls and menu selections all mashed up on top of each other until I re-enabled fullscreen.
Another way is to add back button to power button settings

I really like this here https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smart.swkey for a few reasons. I can have it almost completely hidden (I watch a lot of videos and want the least amount of distraction) and you can also long press on them (which also works with cm's mods) so if you have the option set to kill foreground app via long pressing back button, it will work with button savoir, another example would be... I have holding menu button hides/shows the status bar via cm settings, that works with button savoir (actually that does not even work with cm's built in soft keys) I'm thinking about buying the license key so i can remove/customize the buttons but I haven't yet. I'm kinda holding out for cm 9/ICS. My experience with the unstable builds are that navigation is very well done and I might not feel the need for any third party navigation method.

That would be my choice as well yes, I've had it running on my KF since day one. Havn't bought a license key more for the fact that the only time I need it is when I need a back or menu button from within a fullscreen app

[Q] Re-map Recent button to Menu?

Brand new N10 and just unlocked and rooted running the stock ROM for now.
Is there any way to remap the recent button to the menu button instead?
Well, ParanoidAndroid mapped a long press of the recents button to menu.
Run a custom ROM and configure the buttons however you want. You can set what they do for each button, add or remove buttons (up to 7 max), set what each button does when long-pressed, and even change the icon of any of the buttons. This is called the "AOKP style navbar" in most ROMs. Obviously that means you will get these features by running AOKP, but many other ROMs also use this same feature and way it is configured.
You should looking into Mr.Robinson's AOKP PUB ROM, it seems to be most people's favorite
I usually switch around my back and recents button, it just seems easier to work with how I hold my tablet and phone this way. I also like to make long pressing the back button automatically switch to the last used app I was on. Long pressing the recents button (for me) kills all open apps.

Thanks for the details. Tried CleanROM first, but need more options. Will check out AOKP PUB next.
