Hi, if I am running CM7 on my Nook Color will I be able to sideload .epub books into the standard SDCard:/Nook/MyDocuments folder and will the Nook app be able to find them? I just wanted to double check that people have been able to do this. Thank you!
EDIT: I should also ask if this is possible if the Nook Color has not been registered with B&N. I'm running CyanogenMod exclusively, so it's pretty much like running the Nook app on an Android phone I would imagine.

I don't know if Nook app will but there are apps in the market that work just fine... I'm using Aldiko, for epub, probably just because it came up first when i searched epub... not sure if it's the best one though
I sideload books into the Nook's folder and they show up in the Droid app but not in the actual Books section (under my files or something similar). However since B&N borked the latest client I started using FBreader for my non-DRMed books anyway.

I just loaded CM7 booting from an uSD Card. It seems that the ebooks folder is for the ebooks as there is a sample there. However I do not see this folder when the uSD card is in my computer. The question is how do I move my epub book collection in the Nook, ie onto the uSD card
[Later] Ok I just emailed the book I was reading on previous Nooter setup and I was able to import it into Aldiko; however there must be a better way. I have a 4GB card there and most of it seems empty yet Windows viewable folders are not viewable from Nook Filemanager. Ideas?
I use Overdrive for my epub books. Works Excellent!
Hey all. I have a rooted NC running CM7. I have alot of books side loaded on my NC. Ive noticed the Nook app has a hard time finding these side loaded books. It only finds them when they are on my SD card and even then it takes several minutes of syncing for them to be found. What is a good reader I can use that can read multiple formats? I want it to be able to find books anywhere in my NC i.e. SD card, documents folder, etc. What do you guys use? Thanks!
This could be good. How many of the coder types actually use the Nook Color for reading????

A lot of people use Aldiko, and/or Moon+ Reader. I like CoolReader, though for some reason it couldn't see books on the internal memory until several reboots after I installed it.
+1 for Aldiko
Works well, good layout, and can easily find and load books anywhere on the sdcard.

Well, some of us do. I'm even buying ebooks from B&N, if for no other reason than to thank them for making a cheap tablet for me to use!

I wholeheartedly agree and tell everyone who I recommend the nook to that I do this.
Has anyone tried to side-load/use the nook app on the fire? My fire is on the way, so I haven't tested yet. Coming from a nook, I really want to be able to carry over my existing library.
Also, has anyone found a good epub reader? I have a ton of unlocked epub files on my nook that I would also like to utilize.
When you get market running just down load the Nook reader. Or side load it. Works fine.
aldiko and fbreader are both great epub readers. There are many many more though. I can confirm aldiko plays well with the KF.
I did it, I installed directly from the Android Market. You could sideload it too.
The app opens, I can sign in, but I haven't been able to download any of my books to the Kindle Fire.
yes. It works.
edit: able to download and read free books. Can't seem to download the one purchased book I have from BN
I have been able to load purchased books no problem over the wire with nook reader.

the nook app works great for epubs, i was using aldiko but decided to try the nook app and like it much better. you can add all of your epubs super easy with something like root explorer.
Working great for me. I actually llike it better than the kindle reader. It is especially nice for magazines.
Yes. I sideloaded the Nook app and it works great. I did this before I rooted the Fire. You just need the apk
Has anyone tried copying the cache over from another device? I'm going to give that a try tomorrow to get my purchased books.
Edit: I downloaded/TB/Side Loaded the nook app on my fire and tried to download/read purchased books. So far I have downloaded and opened 3 books, I had previously purchased, without issue.
Hello everybody.
I'm crazy with the reader that carry with original rom of Nook. But the stock rom is not acceptable for me.
Is there anyway to use these applications on my CM10.1 ?
Tks

If you're saying you really like the Nook reader on stock and would like to use it with CM10.1, just go to Google Play Store and install the Nook app, which includes the reader.

Yes, you can use the Android app version of the reader, but it does not have all the features that the stock version has. For instance, it cannot read interactive children's books.

Also, the settings vary from the stock reader to the app reader. Hardly a deal breaker though.
I just installed CM10 on my HD+. However, when I go to Gapps and try to install the nook reader app, I get :
**Your device isn't compatible with the versio**
Any idea how to get the nook reader app on CM10?

Get it somewhere else like 1mobile.com or other store. Or take it from another device. It runs fine.

leapinlar, my issue with the HD+ stock Nook reader app is that the control of font size is very limited - well, it's great for microscopic up through normal, but then goes from somewhat normal (third largest) to very large (second largest) to billboard text (largest). I need something between third and second largest. I saw your reference to "Go Read" but I'd prefer to stick with the Nook reader software for library syncing etc.
I tried to install Android Nook Reader from the Play store on the 2.1.0 software, but the system won't let me because (I guess) the name of the app is the same as the pre-loaded stock reader, and it says the app is "already loaded".
Do you know any way I can modify the built-in Nook apk to modify the list of available font sizes? Or, any way to modify the Android Nook apk to avoid the Nook name conflict? Not sure that just re-naming the apk file would work. Otherwise, I will move on to try CM10.1 as a dual boot using your file contributions.
Thanks.

Go to my HD/HD+ tips thread linked in my signature and read item 8. Particularly the second paragraph. That is my only suggestion.

My general usage of all my nook devices (Nook Color, Nook Tablet, Nook HD+ and not Nook Touch) is to root, install FB Reader, use it to download books from my network library and use the out of the box Nook App to read the books.
However recently the nook app will not open any books. I see two different behaviors, has anyone run into these issues?
1) The nook library can see the epub file (These are DRM free epubs), when I click on it it returns "Sorry, cannot open this book"
2) And the other use case is that the nook library never sees the epub files at all.
For #1 I tried a file I can open just fine on my Nook Tablet but it errors out on the Nook Touch. The epubs open just fine in FB Reader.
Any ideas what else to try?
Rick
Could it be something to do with an incomplete transfer over the network? What happens if you transfer the epub file over usb?

Nope, this is weird, but just plugging my nook into my computer and unplugging causing the SD card to unmount/mount fixed the issue.
So basically I need to reboot (or plug into a computer) everytime I download a new epub via fbreader or some other tool. Sort of sucks, but it worked for me. Anyone else have a problem with downloading epubs from other sources than the B&N site on their nook touch and having it be able to open them?
Thanks,
Rick
That certainly is strange, never had a problem with epub files personally. Let us know if you ever figure out the cause of the problem though.

I wonder if it's using the standard or slightly modified Android Media Scanner to detect new files? Perhaps there's a file which is causing it to barf?
