Getting a nook color but have qustions - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I ordered it from hsn yes i know i could've got it cheaper but i always like the flex pay option they have
But the questions are im not sure if im getting the old color or the blue dot one all i know the model is BNRV200.
And heres the link http://electronics.hsn.com/nook-col...pps_p-6450043_xp.aspx?web_id=6450043&ocm=sekw
And if it is a blue dot one what would i have too do too root it and install cm7 and stuff?
I already have a galaxy tab with a custom voodoo kernel on it and love it but i like too mess with something different
But ya pretty much what i want too do is get it too full android and on a overclocked kernel.

For the new partitioned (blue dot) Nooks, DeanGibson's repartitioning guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094371
eyeballer's guide to installing CM7 to EMMC (internal Nook memory) as well as links to restore back to the stock B&N software if you want/need to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
I didn't have to do the first, but the second one was extremely straightforward as long as you can read directions correctly.

thank you Now the waiting game too receive it.. lol
Hopefully its not the blue dot one which would be less steps too do and hsn does usely sell first gen stuff when every buddy have the newer stuff lol But if it is a blue dot the guild has straight forward steps

[Q] Best path from 1.0.1 Autonootered to 1.2?

I auto-nootered by Nook Color when I first got it. Then made sure to block any updates at that time. Been perfectly happy up 'til now... But, with the advent of things like Netflix, I was really hoping to upgrade and wondered what the best method would be for someone still on 1.0.1.
I've been reading quite a bit about it, but still have questions:
1)Should I wipe and then accept the 1.2 update -- then manual nooter? Or is there a smarter way?
2) I have yet to use CWR at all, I believe there is a method using this to upgrade -- is that a better route?
3) Is 1.2 nootered working 100% at this point? If I'm only really looking for Netflix should I stick with 1.1? Would I be missing much? Flash?
Even if someone could just point me in the right direction, a thread I should be reading -- that would be super helpful. Thanks!

[Q] How to sideload on Nook Color 1.4.1

Hey all. I've searched through the forums, but it seems like talk of the NC has stopped in favor of talk of the NT, and I can't find the info I need.
I have a nook color running 1.4.1, unrooted. I've seen plenty of threads about how to sideload apps on the NT running 1.4.1 without rooting, but no one seems to have explained how to do this for NC. Is it still possible? If anyone can explain how to get it done, please let me know. All I really want is the Amazon Appstore and the Kindle app, so I'm not sure I really need to do a full-fledged root. I really like the Nook interface and don't want to have to flash CM7 to just read my Kindle books.
Thanks

Still a lot of love for the NC! It's still much more hackable than the NT.

I don't believe sideloading apps on the NC ever was possible without rooting. I do not recall any discussions of how to do so.

You can easily root B&N 1.4.1 without losing any B&N functionality. You can load the Kindle and Amazon App store apps with no problem. If that's all you want to do, you don't have to do anything more. GMPOWER has kindly devoted a lot of effort into developing the ManualNooter tool to make this simple. I've put together a guide on using his tool, plus a few other tips for those that prefer to stay with the B&N software. You certainly do not need to load CM7 to read Kindle books!
I don't have the stock 1.4.1 ROM so I can't tell you for sure but there are members reported that side-loading works fine on rooted stock 1.4.1 while others said they can't.

How easy is it to unroot from this method? Is there a simply tutorial on how to do that as well?
I don't want to root unless I know I can unroot just as easily, in case I need warranty support.
Just about anything you want to do to the nook is just as easily undoable. Returning to stock is a non-issue, easy as pie. Although in truth, there is almost no reason to do so. There would have to be a hardware issue, as I have yet to see an unsolved ROM or software problem on these forums, and I've seen some crazy stuff.
The nook.is a great machine, with amazing capabilities considering its origins. Adding the custom ROM makes it better in every concievable way. I ran stock software for almost nine months and regret every minute of it. GMpower did yeoman's work putting ManualNooter together for the cautious types, but I truly would recommend going whole hog with cyanogen.
I had a warranty issue with my sdcard slot after I rooted it, and even with no sdcard, I got it back to stock, replaced, and then flashed a backup of my install, all my books and apps right back to the way they were.
Everyone should root. You own the device, there is no reason not to maximize its abilities.

In his thread on MN for 1.4.1, the illustrious GMPOWER points to the NOOKdevs procedure for restoring to stock. I've used it myself a few times, and he would certainly know!
I've been running B&N 1.4.1 rooted for over a month using MN with no big issues. There are a few interface glitches that cause menus to appear as white on white, but that's about it.

I'm a little confused about the guide you posted. It seems like the goal of steps 1-4 is to get an unrooted 1.4.1 running, but I already have that. Do I still need to follow these steps? if not, can you give me an updated version of the guide?

Your timing is impeccable. I just updated the version over at androidforums to include some "start here" instructions. Take a look there. I'll be updating the version here when I get some time. Use the version of MN from GMPOWER's thread. I need to update those links as well (though no harm will come from using the version prior.)

[Q] Completely new to hd2, but not new to rooting

I am new to the hd2 because I got it for a cheap price from a friend because I thought it would be interesting to use. Its in great condition. I would like to install cwm and ics on it. Its just a little more confusing since this isn't made for android. Could somebody give me a detailed guide or video guide link to install cwm and use it properly for this phone? I'm sort of lost when it comes to the bootloader and stuff. I'm not dumb with computers and phones so don't be afraid to give me a hard guide. I just want one that will do the job and get this device running cwm so I can flash ics or miui. Thanks!

[Q] Stock Bricked A500

Hi All I have been using various items on this forum and need to ask a few questions.
I have a rooted A500 and it has been Rooted since day one. But I got one from a neighbor that is stock with USB debugging off and When I try anything like update.zip on the SD card I get nothing but the Blue spinning and then on back with red triangle. I have no SBE or CPUID numbers and I have a lot of files from XDA and text I've been reading through but I thought I would see if someone could narrow the search to fixing this down to a more manageable project.
Thanks for anybody that has some input.

Hi There and thanks for the reply
I used your Various files and used everything I could from that folder. I also tried Acer A55 4.010.38 Com GEN 1 Full update
I've also tried the idea of plugging my working Acer in and then trying the bricked Acer. I'm thinking there may be no hope but am not prepared to give up just yet.
I was just beginning to look for the Ubuntu method when you replied.
I thank you for still being here to help with your insight. I never need halp on my rooted tablet I can always restore it.

I'd be tempted to try one of civato's pre rooted ICS stock roms - tab may have OTA'ed to ICS in which case the HC ones wont work, worth a crack
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633907
this one:
NEW ACER RELEASE AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1 (DEODEXED AND ZIPALIGNED and a Original Odexed rom)
Ill give that a try. I was looking at that also but wasn't sure if it was a viable option in this state. His roms are all I use well and sometimes Thors also.

My thread (linked above) has some steps that worked for me as far as getting the CPUID and SBK was concerned.
Hopefully you will be able to recover more easily than myself.
