Dont know if its me, I find it looking like PocketCM. With a different theme but with a small additional feature, call history
I agree with you. It's way too similar... and they're developing a "sms chat"... I saw that before right here on the forums...
Would be a nasty abuse of tene's hard work. He did the work, he deserves the money!!
IMHO tene's version is still a lot better, but it does indeed look like theft.
I saw on their site they're develloping easy-type as well, which might be similar to PocketCM keyboard! If so... a bloody shame!

Well, maybe I'll play against myself, but as long as they don't use my binaries, that's fine. It seems to me that's another implementation of the same ideas, and I don't own the ideas.
Did anyone tried it? is it good? for 19.95$ I hope it is
haven't tried it, why pay when i can use your version free
I gave this one a shot
Although there is no novelty as far the idea is concerned, the implementation is quite good!
Heres the difference between tene's version and this one :
1:> One tab assigned to Call Logs
2:> Animations are slightly different (Flip up/down instead of Flip Left/Right in tene's version)
3:> Setting a contact as a favourite is extremely easy
(On the contact detail screen , there is a star..you just have to select that star to set the contact as favourite..IMHO this is easier/quicker than two taps approach in tene's version)
4:> Animation seems slightly faster and even browsing through the alphabet index is very quick
5:> No support for SMS chats
Most important difference IMHO is that contacts can be edited/deleted through this app. This is a very nice feature as it allows you to change user information be it contact number/address/name etc. using its own input method/panel (Although creating contacts is still via normal way)
All in all,a good effort..but I wouldnt like to pay for this one especially when a free alternative is available and that too a very good alternative .Nevertheless,I would expect tene to give a look in to the features for his next version (if theres gonna be one)
I'll continue
6:> About 1,4mb installation
7:> Pretty slow to boot
8:> Weirdest built in keyboard ever.
9:> Much more fluid in use than pocketcm. (wizard)
10:> Scrolling works much better (slows down and accelerates more like an iphone)
you can download a trial version...
personal opinion, it sucks compared to tene's CM...
the only advantage is that it has a call log which probably tene can easily add.
- pictures do not show on the initial phonebook list
- also phone numbers do not show
- pager numbers do not show on contact details (i'm a doctor and use very frequently)
- no sms (my favorite part in tene's CM)
- you can only sort by either first, company or last name (CM you have an option to sort by city, category, company, sms....)
- comes in only one boring theme - (there are some excellent themes out there for CM and i like to change every few days)
- doesn't have the search option.
- address doesn't show in contact details (you have to press a button which takes you to the built-in contact manager for the address and more details!)
the list goes on and on...
so, NO way would I pay 20$ for that software... even if it was for free and I had to pay for Tene's CM I would still prefer tene's CM, his software is far more superior.
lol @ the built-in keyboard
I'll add:
11:> PCM looks much nicer not to mention PCM can use themes. Funcontact can't.
12:> PCM has a lot more features (although that's also exactly the same thing I hate about PCM.. it's starting to become bloatware). Funcontact works.. it does what it needs to do in a convenient and fast way.
13:> No support for landscape (it doesn't flip even if you slide the keyboard). It stays in portrait no matter what. It's good in a way because it keeps the app stable, unlike PCM which starts to screw up whenever I slide my keyboard out to type SMS.
14:> It caches everything on memory on program start
15:> So far, it's very stable
16:> It uses the WM GUI for sending messages
Well, maybe I'll play against myself, but as long as they don't use my binaries, that's fine. It seems to me that's another implementation of the same ideas, and I don't own the ideas.

PCM still better, but I agree with you it becomes bloatware if Tene keep adding unnecessary features.

hi tene, a bit off topic, but where can i get the basic theme for pocketcm? the one posted in the screenshots at your site.
You should ask the original poster DaVince about that bloatware
I just emphasized that.

It's obviously still in its infancy...
If you take a peek at the BMPs for the app. they show Call and End icons plus many others, waiting to be switched on!
It's been said already that there is development planned for SMS chat and a better keyboard (their current one is BIZZARE!).
I've put it on my phone to do a comparison and it does seem faster (once it's loaded). This might be inpart due to the lack of fades and zooms between some screens.
I like the contact detail screen and the simple option to SMS to any number. Very nice deign, but then it should be...they pay professional designers to do the work.
The switch to view the contact in the Windows app is almost INSTANT! so no worries for me about a lack of address.
Given some layout options and skins and maybe 6 months to develop, it could be excellent.
Does use a lot of RAM to run though and I miss the filter option at the moment. Like I say thgouh, time will tell which app comes out on top.
I'm very much looking forward to Tene's next release, due soon. If he's got any sense (and he has), some of the nice little touches may well find their way into PocketCM
Oh yes, if you want the Vito icons for your PocketCM theme, you know where to go ;-)
As some have noted, PocketCM is free. However, that should not stop you from supporting Quentin's (Tene's) hard work and donate *something* so that he CAN continue to support and refine it with your direct suggestions.
G.
Hey, I also tested this "funcontact".
Its not bad, and looks also nice, but the scrolling didnt work well on my prophet... PCM does...
I prefer PCM because it can handle my SMS and there are possibilities to customize.
The only thing better in funcontact is the callLog.
PS.: It looks really like PCM, but its not the orignial.
TENE U did a real goog job man, thanks

text help

i am struggling with this phone, at first i loved it as the potential looked amazing, but i used to be a heavy texter, it was simple with a normal phone, and could text with out lookin at screen, so was pretty quick, new i would have to get used to the touch screen, but i have it set up for phone key pad so i can use it like a normal phone, but there will be no chance of texting without looking due to cant feel buttons, but i find it slow and end up spelling words wrong, and have to delete and respell, then u press a button and doesnt register, so again get a garbled word and have to resplell, and worse is when it highlights the words, if you dont press space and try to edit something you get you word insert again either to the end of the original word or halfway through message - how do i turn that off i dont need it suggesting words, just want to type and maybe use the arrows to scroll to the next word, and not have it inserted randomly onto the message.
this phone is not great for texts or email. is there a better programme out there for texting with? cheers
there are millions of text input programs, but I recommend you: TouchPal (for Thumb-use, with the smart-keyboard) and TenGo (for Stylus-use). If you get used to this, belive me, you can type really fast. I know what you mean, once, I came from a life with Nokia, too, and I could write everything without looking and extremely fast, but the time to get used to a touchscreen-phone is much longer than you/me thought!! But after some months (!) you will see, you can type very, very fast, with this keyboards. Or wait until the new maila comes out (you can flash Dutty's extreme ROM), this is much better in full-QWERTY than the one by now. So, search a little bit, you'll find really millions and millions of keyboards!! Try some
Good luck!! And don't give up hope
Greets, cad^^
thank you, i will check, i have browsed forums but hadnt seen anything about texting, so again, thank you
No prob. Just look around, xda is for 95% of the questions/problems the best source. But if you are new here, look at the xda-wiki!!!! It is very, very, very important and helpful, there you get the most information!!! You see, its at the upper bar, the 4th icon from left. So, happy reading and have fun with your new toy And enjoooooooy it^^
I actually thinky the HD is better for texting than I thought originally, but your point about words inserting themselves within words is very valid.
What I don't understand is that the phone is capable of haptic feedback but it doesn't do it for the keyboard input. I assume the only way is to install Touch Response
yes, it is, but it's very easy to install and it's very good working! So, no probs But if you text REALLY a lot, than look now in the accessory section, they are currently discussing about external bluetooth keyboards. Me too, I'm interested in one of these, and I find 55$ for the Brando one not expensive.. Just look at it
Greets, cad^^
SPB Keyboard works absolutely fantastically on the touch HD, the fact you can press a button to make the keyboard fullscreen and horizontal for text messaging makes it particularly handy.
I had the same problems when I had my very first touch screen phone (LG Viewty) and found that texting was very difficult using a phone keypad layout, I switched to the keyboard layout and using the tips of my thumbnails to tap out the messages it works a lot better! Maybe give it a try and tap out a few messages to see if it feels easier. Trust me you'll get used to it!
Yes, I like spb-keyboard, too, but it's only in ugly qvga theme, I didn't found any wvga so, it's very unsharp and not good looking. ok, I know, I'm absolutely crazy complaining about the "look" of a keyboard, but actually I think it matters so, I really like the Touchpal (I'm writing now on it) and until I fully test the new HTC keyboard, I think Ill stay with this But thanks for your information!! Have fun
Greets, cad^^

Sick of the 'stock' keyboards.

I find the button to close together, even the android keyboard. What do yall think of them? What do yall recommend for big fingered dudes? Also, how hard is it to install a new keyboard?
I agree the Android keyboard is 'meh'. While I do wish the Standard keyboard had a larger space bar, otherwise I love it, I like Betterkeyboard with the Glass Orb skin. I know it doesn't affect the actual key size but I find that I'm a lot more accurate with that skin than others. Plus they have the Compact keyboard mode which may help. It was worth cost to me.
The HTC_IME mod is great...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
And IF it still is too small, you can set it to show up as an old-style phone keyboard with the 12 keys, and then it will use t9 spelling for you...
I cant recommend shapewriter highly enough. Once you have used it (or similar, swype for eg) you will not want to go back to the normal "tapping" method.
PM me if you want the apk.
Yeah, HTC touch input is very cool. Smart keyboard pro is also nice, but if your fingers are THAT big, I'd suggest Blindtype

lol shapewriter can be found in the market
been trying a lot of different keypads. Swiftkey is pretty good for the language and predictive options but not much space between the keys like all the others. No matter what keypad i try i still seem to be going back to the htc one.
They really should release it onto the market officially.
I use smart keyboard and just recently gone pro with it .

Not in mine
What about ultra keyboard? I love it, everything is configurable!
I have the same problem that I don't like any of the keyboards out there.
Swype is slow for me - I only speed up if I swipe the same word over and over again, which rarely happens in real life.
T9 and Ultra requires too many corrections and having to double or triple tap to get the exact letter you want is annoying when the prediction doesn't get it right.
Other keyboards the keys are too small especially if you have to type anything a bit unusual. Blindtype would have the same problem though it's not available yet.
Anything else out there?
i have tried a whole dozen before someone here recommend shapewriter, it's really that good, once i got used to it, i don't even want to use 'keyboard' on my phone anymore
Shapewriter 3.0.9 (Non-expiring) : http://www.mediafire.com/?qwffb21f0804twk
Try Swift Key.........i prefer it over Skype and Stock
SlideIT for the best "exotic language support" gets my vote. Has about 18 languages supported - including the Nordics, including different keyboard layouts (so you'll see the national keys, too). Current version (2.x) looks professional enough, too. A nice bonus is the single-key language switcher.
Shapewriter has a nicer key-spacing, so less error-prone, but lacks advance language support feats. If they get the Nordics fixed, it'd be a good choice too.
Swype looks good but seems lag-ridden, at least enough for me not to trounce SlideIT at present (let's see, if Nordic languages come by).
Bottom line: since I found Shapewriter, and later SlideIT, I haven't looked back to the traditional tap-tap-tap-keyboards - no matter how polished, no matter how good their prediction is. Speed, and even a reduced error rate (at times, only!) - two top reasons to start using a sliding keyboard.
Give them a try. A good try. Once you get beyond that initial WT... barrier, writing on your phone will never be the same.
Just tried shapewriter on the evo and I have to second that so far it is better than swype. I just like the fact that is it real easy to add words to the dictionary.
I have now swiftkey, its new and so far it's working well
Sent from my rooted X10i using tapatalk
I had a few problems with the latest update of Swype.. UNTIL... I changed some of the settings (found the problem on there website, can't recall what the changes were now..) but now it's fantastic again.. and the sliding from the swype key to the Sym key to get the navigation keys is just genious..)..
Needless to say, I love it.. it is the proverbial dogs cogs.

homie I REALLY appreciate the fact that you took the time to hook up up with some seriously detailed knowledge; your post is far more useful than the "I like ____ more than ___."
Per your rec's, I actually will try both alternatives, because I ran out of Swype beta time and I couldn't find a lasting apk
Time for a new keyboard [again]!

Get it while its FREE - predictive WORD beta keyboard!!!

Hey try this out! I think you will like it, looks good and skin colour can be changed.
It is predictive word and predictive next word!!!
Free at the moment because it is beta, but I have tried it an works 100%
It can even be changed in the settings to include arrows

phone keyboard
That is a phone verson of there new keyboard. Its available on application brain they say the tab verson of it will be available soon.and is in testing now.
yeah the tablet version is in beta, i got it but didnt like it as much as thumb keyboard. If you are interested, i think that you can go to the swiftkey site and sign up to be on the beta tester list. Thats how I got it, but i clicked a link in one of the forums here and signed up that way. So i'm not real sure where to go, but I'm sure a search of the forums here would probably provide the link.
Here is the Tablet version

dictionary

Guys when u are writing something on galaxy s2 do u think the dictionary sucks i mean is there any other dictionary that similar to iphone or HTC?
Try SwiftKey. It adds stuff to its dictionary by analysing your SMS and emails, so when it predicts something, it's usually going off things you've typed before. I've had full sentences predicted for me just by starting the first word!
It is a paid app, but it's very much worth it. Also (another little treat it has) you can turn cursor keys on and off. It's worth paying just for that!

Personally, I think it's better than the HTC and iPhone keyboards, but that's obviously just my opinion. If you're struggling with SwiftKey then I think you need to just take your time a bit more when typing, until you get the hang of it, because SwiftKey really does make typing a breeze, even without using the predictive text.
I find that the dictionary is quite good ... BUT ... HTC and the default Android keyboard include contact names and more locations and standard words like GMail and android (with an uppercase 'A'), Samsung doesn't do that.
Also anyone know how to stop the keyboard from trying to always autocorrect, I want to see suggestions but I rather not have it try and force a word on me. Also why must it add every one word to the dictionary, not every word I time is worthy ~.~ ...
Any developments on this? Also anyone know how I can turn the whole add to my dictionary thing off automatically. I want to choose what I want to add not for everything to just add itself if it is a new word.
