Usb problem!!! - Nexus S General

Has anyone else who is have USB connection issues tried this:
http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-install-nexus-s-windows-usb-drivers/
It's not working for me, don't know what I'm doing wrong. The SDK route didn't work either. My computer keeps saying I have the most up to date drivers but still won't recognize my phone. Shows as "unknown device". I'm running Win 7 Professional 64 bit. Any ideas?

Doesn't seem like too many people are having this problem. Is it just a simple fix that a newb like me is just overlooking?

Driver Error

UPDATE:4/3/09
My phone has been root access and everything else from JF now that my pc is reformatted when I plug it in I get this
Once I Click mount in my phone this happens
I have tried the drivers in the SDK and the ones in android_usb_drivers.zip Or what ever it is called...what else shell I try?
I have windows vista home premium 32 bit
So Anyone? Still Not Fixed.
last bump, Anyone?
Did you get the Win USB drivers from the latest SDK? That might be worth a try. (http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.1_r1/index.html)
I had a similar problem when I was updating my ADP1 to firmware 1.1 and this was the fix.
I can't tell by looking at your screenshot but are you using 64bit vista? if so you need different drivers you can google them that's how I found them.
Update: Check First Post
Also ex-MN Did not work
JoshHart its x86 not x64
The android_usb_driver package is for interfacing with the device serially for fastboot or adb. USB Mass Storage should work irrespective of whether that is installed. When you press mount on the phone and get the USB Mass Storage entry with the /!\ warning icon, right click on it and check out the properties. Under device status, there should be some info that can help you debug the problem.
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
SO anyone? I also tried to do fastboot and says the ADP Interface which expands into HTC dream in device manager also gets same error. you guys think its my phone?
OMG sorry everyone I found out what was wrong my bad!

[Drivers] MS Windows x86 and x64 USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy S

Team,
For those of you having trouble finding drivers here are some links.
64bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
For Linux and Mac the Android SDK drivers should work fine.
I don't know if it is a conflict with my AV or something else, but when I use the x86 drivers linked, my phone will shut off completely when attaching with "PC Internet" option in the USB settings.

yes they have... This feels redundant. also add in that if you're a nub just install kies and it will auto dl the correct drivers you need.

Also on a mac you do not need the sdk. You do need to be in debugging mode though.
Also, you could just go to the Captivate webpage on Samsung's site and get the Captivate drivers, not the generic Galaxy S drivers linked in the OP.
thanks was looking for these!
In Windows 7 I'm not having an easy time getting the phone to be recognized. If I click Start > Devices and Printers it shows up as Samsung_Android but even Kies won't recognize the phone so something is wrong. I also can no longer mount my external SD card and have it show up in Windows. I tried to uninstall all the drivers and reinstall but it keeps telling me there are already drivers installed...soo..... *shrugs*

I had this problem on my desktop as well. I was using a front USB port on my computer and when I plugged it into one of the back ports, it worked. I also found the USB cable that came with the phone to work better than a cable I had lying around. Try different ports and if all else fails, try a different cable.
So here's something bizarre. I've been using my PC (Win 7 64bit) for weeks now with my Captivate and no issues. Had originally had woes when I got it, but it started working. Anyway, today I plug it in and ... it doesn't recognize it. Have installed / changed NOTHING -- only M$ patches have been applied. Tried to roll back prior and get the lovely BSOD probably because I have 4 SATA Raptors RAID-0'd and M$ doesn't know how to use that, but has anyone else seen this behavior before?
And to add to this. I rebooted my phone and now it works again. Very odd but problem solved.

ive been trying for weeks and trying all three, generic Galaxy S, AT&T captivate drivers and Kies and can't get anything working in USB Mass storage mode or Kies mode...
This is on Windows 7 64bit. Driving me crazy. USB mode wont install the Mass storage drivers and Kies wont recognize
My issue is that when I connect the phone on Windows 7 32bit the phone and the internal SD card will connect but one I try to click on anything inside the phone or card the phone will immediately disconnect and then reconnect. When I try to click again it will repeat the disconnection. After that, I don't even have to click on the phone or card directories, it will disconnect then reconnect about 6 more times. Eventually it will be stable and not disconnect. This is extremely annoying. Anyone else with this issue.

Anyone have a link to the Win7 64-bit USB drivers?

I can't get my Win 7 64-bit pc to connect to my phone. It's starts to install drivers then it says unable to install drivers. I already tried the USB degger on and off no luck. Thanks
Search is your friend

I did a search none of the links are good. The link in the one you posted doesn't work.
+1 for working link to drivers. All the threads i've seen have bunk links to drivers. I'm using drivers installed by a samsung.exe and having 0 luck getting my pc/adb to see the phone.
I just figured out that my PC is not detecting any new USB device. I get the sound but, nothing shows up on the control panel. My ext. HHD , USB hub, and USB printer is working. but now my jumpdrive and card reader don't work. Win 7 has been flaky ever since I got this SS HD. I was a win7 beta tester and never had problem with the beta and RC1. I'm going to reinstall win7 and see if that fixes it.
Try this one: www dot megaupload.com/?d=GVJ6XYLF (sorry, still not allowed to post links yet)
Strange, it worked for me. I also found working ones by googling "Samsung Epic Win64 drivers"
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I'm also finding it impossible to get my epic recognized by my PC. Even if I download and "successfully" install the drivers I still get the "usb device not recognized" message when I plug in my phone.
Have you all tried installing the new pdanet and select samsung drivers. Worked perfectly for me and my new dekstop win 7 x64
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I had to manually install the drivers with device manager to get then to work. Click on the yellow exclamation points, select install driver though the properties and point out to your x64 drivers folder.

I am still having trouble getting the drivers installed correctly. No matter what I do I always get the "USB device not recognized" error when plugging in my phone. I've tried manually installing them by pointing directly to the drivers, I've tried running the setup, and I tried the PdaNet program too. None worked. No matter if I have my phone in USB debugging mode or not nothing works and I always get the same error message. I completely remove all drivers before trying another method yet I always get the same error.

Have you tried different ports? I couldn't use the ones on the front of my PC but 1 worked on the back. Seriously a pain in the ass though, sammy should fix it.

How do you get this phone to install on your pc?

Just got a Fascinate. Can't get the memory driver to install properly. Heck, the usb drivers wont either.
How does this work or is it busted atm? I have Win 7 32 and Vista 64. Both have the same issue. Just can't get the Fascinate to talk to either.
Thanks
Did you download the drivers from samsung? I have win 7 64-bit on two of my computers and it worked perfectly after installing the drivers from here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-I500RKAVZW
Nope. That does not install successfully. Weird.

I had the same problem I had to go to my device manager while my phone was plugged in and point the computer to the folder with the drivers in it...it didn't install automatically like I thought out would...

how many times do you have to ask the same question? see your other thrad for the answer.
Sorry about the double post. I did that one on the phone and thought it did not post.
I am using the cable that came with the phone. Regardless, the Samsung software will not install on either of my PCs. Is there a known issue with antivirus? Or am I just one of the unlucky that gets a stupid issue that takes forever to figure out?
The file got corrupted somehow. ReDLed it and cleaned the Reg. before I unzipped and installed it.
Took 45! minutes to install!! Still does not work. Sees the phone as a removable storage device. When I click on it the message is please insert a memory disk in it? oooook
I turned off usb debugging on the phone but same problem.
I do see the drivers as installed on my pc. No idea wtf to do now.
Both pcs recognize it as Samsung but neither will work with it. Do I need to get my old XP desktop in the closet just for this phone? lol
Changed usb setting from mass storage to sync with media center. Works now.

Same exact problem here on Win7 32bit w/ Samsung drivers and this setting fixed it. Thanks!

"LG Software" mode error + solution

I've had the following problem which I solved and now I'm wondering if anyone else found it, since I'm afraid it might point out to some hardware fault.
When selecting LG Software mode on the phone for connecting to your PC, Windows (in my case, 7 x64) attempts to install an MTP USB Device, but fails with Code 10: Device cannot start. At this point I (after many trial-and-error cycles) had to select Update Driver for that device in Device Manager, select Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of drivers, and from the next screen, pick USB Composite Device instead of MTP USB Device. It installed right away and then 4 other USB devices popped up, which also were installed (using Windows Update). After this, LG PC Suite (and also LG Mobile Support Tool) detected the phone with no problems.
So, were any of you confronted with this?
Just wanted to say I had the same problems following your steps allowed me to get this to work. Thanked!
Thank you so much. This solved the problem.
I'm actually having this same issue. When I click "Show me a list of blah blah" it doesn't give me a USB Composite option. I only get two MTP options, and if I check "Show Compatible Hardware" it shows a bunch of drivers for MTP, WMP, and some other protocols. Any ideas?

yes, but unfortunately i don't have USB Composite Device as a selection on Windows 7 64bit. any other suggestions to get this stupid lg software installed?
After spending over 6 hours on this problem and installing a new windows, I finally found the culprit, it was Xposed Media Scanner, disabling it fixed the problem. Of course if you did not install this module before then the solution is not for you, maybe it will help someone reaching this page from Google.
