Hello all... I'm confused by the HDMI capabilities of my Evo. I'm under the impression that when you connect the micro HDMI cable (I just bought), you're able to view your phone's screen on your TV--as thought it were a large monitor. I thought this is what "mirroring" meant.
All I can see with this micrHDMI cable are videos, slideshows and photos--all pointless activities to the way I use my phone, oh! and play a video game or two, which I don't do. I installed two HDMI apps--the only two that I found on the market. The only thing I have not done is flash a different kernel.
Before I flash another kernel, do I have the wrong idea about what mirroring means?

No, you don't have the wrong idea. The evo's native HDMI capabilities will only allow you to see certain things on the tv screen, such as youtube, streaming video, the gallery app, etc (as you already noted). There are two apps in the market, both of which I've had success with. Those apps (fullhdmi and hdmwin) both allow you to mirror whatever is on your evo's screen to the tv. Anything on your phone's screen will be mirrored to the tv you have it connected to. I havent used either of the two apps in a month or so actually, but I thought that a custom kernel was no longer required to use either one of them? (although a custom kernel did make things seem a bit smoother, as I believe it enabled hardware acceleration)
So in short, you don't have the wrong idea, and you are indeed able to do what you have set out to do.
EDIT: I just noticed that you said you have intalled both of the hdmi apps on to your phone. I would suggest uninstalling one of them, as they could interfere with eachother. Decide which one you want to use, and then uninstall the other one and reboot your phone, then try it.

As always, k2buckley is on point. Please note that for the best results, a custom kernel (check my sig for the one I'm using) is better because it will allow the app to work better by allowing certain features and output resolutions to work that will not work without the custom kernel. I use the mirroring feature frequently, so for me it is worth having the custom kernel.

Thank you for your prompt response. Could the problem also be in my TV settings?
This is what I did (Using a 52" Panasonic plasma - w/Vieracast):
1) Installed the app. (Full HDMI by Team Win, uninstalled. Installed FuLLHDMI by orrebmas)
2) plugged everything in (HDMI to HDMI1 port on my tv and micro to the Evo)
3) Selected the input to HDMI1 (using my remote).
4) Results, *Black screen* I didn't see anything until I produced the Gallery, YouTube or videos on my phone which now I'm learning are default.
Other than flashing a custom kernel, I can't imagine what else you'd need to do.

Did you open up the FullHDMI app, and click the button that says 'apply and start mirroring' or something to that nature? It doesn't sound like you started the actual app. And if you don't start the app, it reverts to the phone's default capabilitites. Once you start the app, and hit the button that says start mirroring, it should start. If it won't display, you may need to change the output resolution. I believe there were 4 or 5 settings in the app. On my TV, which is a 50" Samsung, only 2 of the settings would work. All of the other settings, my tv would say something like 'format not supported'. I had to mess around for a couple minutes, but was able to get it to work. And it worked rather nicely as well, once I got it going.
You can find trouble shooting tips and even live support via chat on the FullHDMI website here:
http://members.cox.net/lokifish/index.html
As buckley said, once you connect the HDMI cable from your phone to the TV, you need to hit the button that says "Start FullHDMI Service". If you get a black screen, hit the second tab and make sure the resolution is not set to 720p (unless you have the custom kernel). Also, please note that 800x600 is a resolution for computers and not supported by all TV's, so you may want to try PAL or EDTV if you get a black screen. Once you change the resolution, go back to the main tab and hit the start button again. Since it is already running, it will say "Reapply Service" or something like that.
There are many more trouble shooting tips on the site asides from what I mentioned above. I suggest you check it out. Lokifish is pretty good about being on the chat server, so chances are you can get live help there, as well.
Ok, there we go... it's working. The setting my TV will let me use is EDTV. Thanks everyone for all your help.
Now back to stock YouTube
will not work. I have tried disabling HDMwin service already without success.
Also tried uninstalling stock onboard YouTube and re-installing it.
If I disable HDMWin service, shouldn't this be all I need to do in order
to use onboard YouTube without mirroring it?

If you're on a Sense rom, the YouTube app should work with the native HDMI capabilities of the Evo. If you're on an AOSP rom, you will have no native HDMI capabilities, and the only way for HDMI to work is with one of the two available apps in the market. If you are on a sense rom, and it's still not working, there could be a few things causing your problem. Such as a bad HDMI cable, a bad HDMI port, or the particular kernel you're on may not support HDMI output.
On on a Sense ROM
Netarchy.
The native HDMI worked prior to flashing Netarchy so I know it's ok.
One thing kind of odd that I noticed with the native YouTube before I
re-installed it. The search function stopped working for some reason.
I have no idea why. So, I uninstalled the native YouTube, re-installed
a new one and the search function is back. I now also have two YouTube
icons, only one of which works.
I have yet to try the new native YouTube for HDMI and will do that today.
I also tried dragging the "old" Youtbube icon off the desktop but it won't
disappear.
I have read all the previous posts on trying to find this to install it. I posted the question by mistake on accessories. Anyway, this is one answer to finding it someone posted.
"Try to install manually from: Asus Sync: confused:??? where is Asus Sync???) dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF101/Utility/setup_1.0.40.exe MyDesktop_SplashTop: "
Now could someone explain that to me in plain
English. If this is supposed to be a web site, there is no such animal. It looks like a program to me as it is executable, but pray tell, if so, where might one find this program. (a link would be sooooo helpful)
Could someone who is much more computer and Android literate please break it down for me. Is this software (PC Suite & Sync) supposed to go on your Windows PC as well as your Asus Transformer? Is there an actual website? I have been all over Asus web sites and can not find it. I would be most happy to install it, IF I COULD JUST FIND IT.
Please someone give me step by step instructions on this, as I am about to throw this Asus Transformer out the window, and I don't want to do that. I know it is my ignorance (or at least I think so)
I see many have posted this same question, so some good soul who knows his/her stuff, please help the rest of us out.
SplashTop App
Asus Web Storage App
Asus Sync
These are the three apps that the downloader is suppose to install. I had the same issue as you but I found another post on here that listed where to find them on Asus' site, so just saved them in Dropbox so I won't have to worry about it. Hope this helps.
It confused the hell out me too. I run linux, which pc sync doesn't support.
I wanted to see if it was actually anything I needed so I installed all the drivers and downloaded the PC Suite (which was only a few KBs when I downloaded it for some reason) and it wouldn't install, so I downloaded just the sync app and installed it. Even though all the drivers were installed correctly it still wouldn't connect, I eventually find out it was because I had ADB debugging enabled on the TF, once I disabled it, it connected fine.
Once I opened it, it was just as I expected: pretty worthless. It allows you to sync your contacts and calendar from the device to the computer (which is kind of dumb considering all that is synced to google's servers, so there's no real need to sync from TF to PC IMO) and to install apks that are on your pc to your TF.
What I was really looking for was a way to put my music and pictures on there, but couldn't find a way. I found out that you have to use a music player such as winamp to copy your music over, you can't simply drag and drop.

You could setup a ftp server on your asus TF and upload it via ftp client on windows/linux/mac.
I'll probably end up doing that. My friend introduced me to File Expert (which you should totally check out if you havent already) which has built in web and ftp servers. Best of all its free!
Could always use Wifi File Explorer as well
Market Link for it
Thank you for your responces. I got them loaded now. Only problem is I can't
Transfer contacts. In Asus sync cause it won't recognize transformer device. It is there when I go into COMPTER along with my other drives. However whenever I open Asus Sync, it is darkened and you can't highlights or checking anything.
You need this: Samba Filesharing by funkyFresh
I called mine "android" and I have read/write access from my pc to my trans at \\android\sdcard
To save space just use Audiogalaxy for music. It doesn't get much simpler and you can stream your music from anywhere.
Feel free to move this thread, but I thought I should ask somewhere people know about hardware.
I own a local store which has about 35 stands for each product, and me and my team want to run slideshows (picture+video) in each one.
My guess is that I should use tablets.
Why tablets?
a) Slideshows needs a software to run them. Displays are just displays.
b) KODI (XBMC) app is a good option, as each Kodi would also run a Samba server and I could send the media I need to play to each one from one computer.
c) I looked for digital photo frames, but they don't support any kind of networking, and the few ones I've found are as expensive as tablets.
My questions are,
1) Is it fine if they are connected to AC power all day 24/7? Our local is opened 24hs. Should I take off their batteries? I don't know if tablets are prepared for that purpose.
2) Is there a difference between generic tablets and Samsung Galaxy Tabs 3? In fact, I really don't need high-end tablets, I just need to run the slideshows. But my only fear is the device-life.
When its plugged in it runs off ac power an keeps the battery's charged so as long as there is power you are good it won't hurt it. I can make a app that's a slide show for them if you want just install the app an open it an itll play. The send the videos an slide show pics an I'll work on when I can. 12 hour shifts this schedule

I appreciate your help.
I actually found out a solution to this. Not the best but fine.
I've installed Kodi and configured everything to block everything but the slideshow.
I needed to rooted them. Installed Xposed framework, and a Xposed addon to blocked hardware keys (leaving a combination to escape).
Installed Touch Blocker, to disable touch.
Installed Samba Filesharing app (running on default samba port thanks to root)
Configure Kodi to autostart Slideshow when it opens, and made a custom service-addon to auto refresh slideshow when new media is detected after 2 minutes, skipping if files are still transferring.
That took a lot more time to replicate in all 35 tablets because there is no cmw or teamwin recovery for Galaxy Tab 4 8'', or at least I haven't found, so Titanium Backup and Helium for some other stuff
I have this watch and have a lot of questions but will try and keep it simple.
There are some apps that I cant download right from the GooglePlay store and I cannot seem to get the edges to show so I may be missing a toggle like "agree to terms" to allow for the install. Yes I know this watch has the "zoom" feature which is supposed to fill the screen in a circle and when disabled makes it a square to view the whole screen and not to miss anything, and it does do that but NOT in the GooglePlay store it always stays zoomed in no matter what I do so I guess my question is:
Is there a way to side load apps with this watch? When I plug in my cradle to USB on my windows 10 machine it shows in "Devices and Printers" but does not show up as a drive(which I have had with previous smartwatches), and when I click on "properties" it shows all good except the MTP driver is not good. Thus would make sense why it is not showing up as a drive for me to side load.
I tried to safely "eject drive" for it and it did and I reconnected but still have issue. I searched internet for drivers and downloaded a really bad virus which took me a while to get rid of doing a system restore.
Anyway does anyone have a link to the real working drivers for the Finow X3 Plus so I can see it as a driver and sideload apk's to it?
Thanks!
Also is there a program that will mirror my screen on my watch to a PC or my cell phone (also Android)? That would be the best actually if it was interactive mirror. I know they have programs for Android cellphones that will do that but not sure about smartwatches especially this model.
Hi bro
Try this

I user the Vysor plugin for Google Chrome. All you need to do is connect the USB cable and that's it.
Along with minimal ADB and Fast boot - it's all you need really.....

At first I had horrible connection issues with Vysor but seems to be stable now. Nice program!!!!
But still I cannot view full screen. Sure I downloaded the "search settings" app and can tripple click each corner to zoom in corners but they are still rounded corners and it is not showing full square image it is still round.
Hi all,
first of all I am pretty much beginner level for Android rooting.
Actually what I want to do is play around a bit with the system files and see if I can find some way to turn off HDMI CEC. There is some post here where someone did this by modifying a file on the Amazon FireTV.
But for starters I am even failing to access the file system via my PC
I have rooted following the tutorials, I have installed ES File Explorer , I have granted root to ES Explorer when the SuperSU popup appeared (and it also shows as being granted in the SuperSU app).
Also I enabled Root Explorer in ES File Explorer.
Then when activating Remote Manager when /sdcard is set as FTP root directory I can access the file system (below /sdcard) via FTP from my PC and do see the files - so FTP access basically works and I am pretty sure there is no issue on the PC side.
However when I set / as FTP root directory and then connect from my PC via FTP (using Total Commander, FileZilla.... the client makes no difference) then I can't see anything at all, it lists an empty directory (or not even that as on an empty directory I'd have the ".." entry and I don't even have that.
Also when I try setting anything else except /sdcard as FTP root directory in Remote Manager in ES File Explorer it's the same thing.
It seems when accessing the file system via FTP I just don't have the necessary privileges to browse the root file system.
Within ES File Explorer itself on the other hand it's no problem to browse everything, there I do seem to have the necessary privileges.
Can anyone help me please, either this is an issue with rooting on the Shield or with ES File Explorer on the Shield or I am making some dummy mistake.
I have searched on Google for hours looking for a solution to this but I hardly even find people having this problem.
So now I am a bit puzzled.
How is one supposed to gain access to the root file system via the PC?
Also how do I get SSH access with root privileges?
tbh this all seems a bit strange to me, I am rooted, but it seems almost impossible to gain access to the root file system from the PC!?
I am also amazed because something like this can be achieved on any jailbroken iOS device by any beginner within 5 minutes without any issues, and I always thought for the much more open Android environment there would be 100s of entry paths and 1000s of tutorials but I seem to find hardly anything at all and after hours and hours of trying and research I still fail even accessing the damn root file system from my PC

Are you doing this to just turn off HDMI CEC? You can do that without root on stock in the settings>HDMI
I haven't rooted my Shield TV pro. I prefer it stock with the lean back launcher so I can't help accessing the root file system.

Well basically yes I am doing this only for the HDMI CEC. It is kind of a big deal in actual usage of my Shield actually.
Apparently there is a bug in the Shield firmware related to HDMI CEC, that for me (and many others) results in this behavior when the Shield TV is connected to an AV receiver.
In my case the Shield is connected to an Onkyo TX-RZ3100 and then from there to a Samsung TV.
HDMI CEC is enabled on both because if it wasn't then the ARC audio return channel wouldn't work (but this is needed, otherwise I won't have audio when watching terrestrial TV which is being received by the Samsung TV).
Now what happens is that whenever I turn on the TV, then the AV receiver also switches on via HDMI CEC (in this case this is wanted and normal behavior).
However when the Shield is connected to the AV receiver (which it normally is), then the Shield will *also* turn itself on and switch the AV receiver to the input of the Shield.
So e.g. if I want to turn on the TV to play with the PS4, then I end up with the Onkyo turning on, showing me the PS4 screen as the AV receiver is switched to the input of the PS4. But then 20s later suddenly the Shield turns itself on and switches the Onkyo to its input.
So the end result is this: whenever I turn on the TV to do anything else (PS4, satellite receiver, HTPC, cable box....) then 20s later the Shield will switch to its input and force me to manually switch back to what what I actually intended to watch.
It looks like the issue was introduced with the 5.x firmware as it didn't happen before.
Now you say I should switch off HDMI CEC via settings - however there are no settings to switch it off unfortunately.
There is no Settings/HDMI (in 5.x) .
What's there is Settings / Display & Sound / Power Control, and there you can switch "CEC TV on" and "CEC TV off", however this only controls whether the Shield will turn on (or off) the TV when switching it on/off - and I have these settings set to disabled. But this doesn't help.
Unless I am missing some other settings there seems to be no way to completely switch off HDMI CEC via the UI.
Ah so turning off CEC TV in the normal settings doesn't solve it. Yes that's the options I did mean. In Display and Sound. Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe try the app Settings Editor in the play store on the shield. It might have the settings to completely disable CEC
