Inaccurate auto focus... - Galaxy S II General

Not sure if anybody else has noticed this, but I find the auto focus on the SGS II sometimes hit and miss.
To try it out, go to your camera and put it in macro mode. Get close-ish to something, and I find it either:
- adjusts focus incorrectly but gives me the green focus box, despite the image being blurred.
- tries to focus correctly, I see the image go sharp (in focus) however the camera does not recognise this and continues trying to focus before eventually giving up and giving me the red non-focused box.
I think it's just the software limits saying how close to something it can focus on, but I've also had a couple of dodgy focus' on normal photos too.

Dude, first do a search. I opened a thread a couple of days ago which was the first thread about focus problems. Now all of the sudden several threads about this topic are floating all over this place.
Please refer to this thread if you have any troubles with focussing:

Sorry, did a search but somehow didn't see your thread!
Mods may as well delete this thread!

Problem with my Front Sensor

Hi every one,
My Hermes' Front Sensor has got some problems
I use Web Camera to open Front Sensor and i can only see a mass of purple very very unclear image through it.
And the last time i use web camera to check Front Sensor i didn't find such a problem, everything goes well.
If there any bugs in the Front Sensor ?
Thanks !
no one knows....?
bless...

The same thing has happened to me. I have tried it on different roms, including one I know it worked on before, so it must be a hardware issue. Could this be caused by a loose connector or something with a simple fix like that?
I dont want to take my phone apart if theres no chance of fixing it anyway.
Maybe people are confused by the term "Sensor"?
I will assume you meant the Front Camera.
If so, then yes the connector can come loose. It is a simple push on connector, but you do have to dismantle quitefar to get to it.
Have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2337130&postcount=4
Assuming you have been through soft and hard resets, you MIGHT want to attempt dismantling the phone.

Well, I got ss1271 by email and I'm confused (nothing unusual there you may think!!) What he says is this:
Sorry for that I cannot have an access to this xda-developers forum right now, but I'll check it asap.
Well, I mentioned "sensor" which refers to the sensor module that located right of the earphone( a transparent some cube-like stuff), not the front camera.
Whatever, I'm very glad that u could gimme a possible answer, thanks in advance!!

(Hope you don't mind me posting the email ss1271 - nothing looked private or confidential)
Can anybody think what is being referred to? I know there is a keyboard light sensor, but that seems irrelevant so what is being referred to?
Any ideas?
Mike
Thanks Mike, you were right the first time, it is the front camera. The confusion has come about because Ateksoft refer to it as the front sensor in their webcamera software, and as that and coolcamera are the only software other than video-calling which can use the front camera, that is where both ss1271 and myself discovered the problem.
I have opened my phone up once a while back, but am not in a hurry to do it again until I have a serious need to use the front camera.
I actually used your guides when I opened up my phone before, and will again if I try to solve this before I upgrade, (too poor to at the moment), so thanks for providing them.
Heres a pic of me taken with my front cam.

Mike
Well you can't tell that I haven't had a shave today, so there are some benefits. I could make it my profile pic, but I rather like hoagy, what do you reckon?
To get back on topic, do you think that it is a loose connector, is this something you have come across before?

Well hoagy looks fine!
The push in connector is the most obvious first thing to check in my view. The trouble is loose connectors can show a host of different scrambled pictures and weird colours and missing lines. Can't recall one that vivid shade before but I've seen bright green
I guess the standard thing is just ensure it's not software by doing a hard reset (but I guess you have done that already)

Hi Mike,jez
First i apologize for my mistaken the Hermes with the Touch Diamond.
When I first got Mike's mail, I took it grant to think that Mike was talking about the Diamond issue...
I'm sorry for you two guys to get confused.
Now I'll clearify that in this thread I was discussing about the FRONT CAMERA of Hermes.
and unfortunately I eventually cannot fix the front camera problem.

Camera problem: >1meg pic gives rubish

When i take a picture it looks like this:
see att.
picture looks like an art painting, only pink lines.
and it takes several minutes in 5 meg mode (hourglass)
Strange thing is when it not happens in 'M' mode.
Already change from main mem to sd card as store place, doesn't help.
Anyone got the same problem?
I'm using an original rom.
Similar issues happened with numerous digital cameras, mainly the Canon Powershot A75 - this was found to be an issue with the CCD module and they issued a recall over it if I remember right.
I'd say first of all maybe try a hard reset (in case it's potentially software induced) and if that fails, it needs to go back for repair.

Huge problem with samsung focus

i just bought a used samsung focus. It is working perfectly except for 2 things.
1) Camera is very bad, no pictures come out well and its not very good
2) The proximity Sensor is not working, i have looked at the service menu for the samsung focus and the box is always red and no number is ever showing (reg shows 0)
ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED, im panicking and very sad
Also, i was wondering is there a way to completely reset the phone, and redownload and install the operating system. maybe the software is busted?
Try one of these ROM's to re-flash the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131022
yeh id do as fido said ad relash, sounds like someone gave you a toasted phone or did something to it, because honestly the focus phone cam is the best i've ever had.
I thought it took crappy photos too, until I discovered if you half-press the shutter button then it allows the phone to focus better (and in dark situations it uses a filler-flash so it gets a clearer pic with less of the flash white wash). Since then I've gotten some great photos, even had one used in a newspaper!

[Q] Camera flash is out of sync (dark photos)

Since I couldn't find anything about this (maybe wrong keywords for google search, but I sincerely don't believe this is a frequent problem), I decided to post question here; at least you'll tell me there's nothing I
Since I disassemled my device to the core and assembled it again, the camera flash light is too harsh. Looking into it causes eye sore and it overheats in seconds. It felt sad at first but I coped with it (and I don't consider it an issue, you don't have to address these facts; they serve only as a side-info).
However, what bothers me much more, is that somehow the light managed to get out of sync when taking photographs. Now I lost the ability to take photos of documents. Even when there's enough light outside, when I don't turn off the camera flash, it makes the photo even darker and text illegible. It seems as if the flash came out too soon, or too late. I'd love to get this fixed somehow.
The question is, is there a way to calibrate this? Or a file/driver, where to modify some numbers to get this aligned? I know it sounds pretty naive, but I already lost hope that anything could be done and than realized that the xda-developers forum is still the last (and best) option.
Looking forward.
<edit> also I was just trying to make a video w/ the flash on and he usually won't survive such attempt for more then a few seconds. Same goes for using phone as light (but it can last for longer time). Interesting is, that after a few seconds the light gets a blue tinge. I think something like reducing the power that goes into it could be helpful in this manner, but I don't know if something like this is software-modifiable

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 Camera won't focus

I have my S4 for only a couple of days now, and i have this problem after the first day or something.
Whenever i try to focus, on the regular camera or on Snapchat or something, it just wont.
The front-facing camera focus does work, only the backfacing one doesnt.
If i tap on the screen to focus, the phone seems to try, and then the red square appears and i have to close and re-open the app if i want to get it to try to focus again. Anyone has a solution?
Note: I do have the sticker on the camera removed.
I appreciate all the help, thanks.

I am having the same problems, hoping someone knows a fix. I however am stock rooted. Thinking to flash a different rom to see if that fixes it, otherwise I may have to contact Samsung about getting a replacement.
