I have been recently experimenting with different taskbars. Unfortunately I didnt uninstall each one before trying the next one ...
Now I can't uninstall them using "Manage Programs", and my volume keys don't do anything. Obviously some registry setting has been changed but I don't know what it is
Can anyone help with this or post a fix?
Thanks
hard reset, you will lose all of the data and settings on your phone.
Back up all of your data before carrying this process out.
On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab
Tap Security - Factory reset
Enter 1234
Tap Yes to perform the reset
Thank you for your reply. Is there any other method other than a hard reset, it would take a long time to get the phone back to how it is ...
You have to delete or rename the HTCVolumeControl.dll (Windows folder file) and restart your phone.
saludos
Thank you, I appreciate your reply
However... I have tried to delete the .dll file and I get a permission denied error.
Is there anyone someone could upload an WWE original file and/or pack it into a cab file for installation?
Try using resco explorer or total comander from your device to delete the file

using activesync in your pc, open the device windows folder...right click the "fexplorer.exe", then click create shortcut. then find "shortcut to fexplorer.exe", rename to "File Explorer". Right click to cut and paste to "windows/start menu/programs"
sorry for the 1st procedure i post
sorry i am amateur .how to hard reset n soft reset sw thanks
Soft reset = press the small hole at the bottom of your device using the stylus.
Hard reset = press and hold the power botton on top of your device and at the same time press the small hole at the bottom of your device using the stylus.
actualy what do you mean by installing program without file explorer? you can install program via a desktop pc with activesync. You can install resco file explorer and later install cab file using resco explorer.
or if you insist using the original file explorer, may be we can just copy the exe file and related lnk for you. what kind of xda do you have?
thanks problem solved, use full reset and my xda work 100%.
I just hard reset my magician. Since i'm using big storage (my friend did it), only some of the cab files from extended_rom are installed. Now i just found out that my smart dialing, MMS, O2 plus are not included. It was easy to recover those programs since i know the cab files.
However, i cant find the right cab for "Running Programs". Does anyone know which one? Thx.
Sorry for the bad language
Running programs - do you mean in Settings > system > memory > running programs?
If you need a task killer I can send you one or there's many around.
V
That's the one. Thx . So actually it's not a stand-alone program. Yes i found the running programs.
So, the question is changed now. I need the shortcut to that program. Usually magician has the blue box icon with a picture of someone running. Do you know the shortcut?
Thx.
Just tried to restore that icon from my old backup before it crashed. I thought it was just only a link to some program. But it is not! It is an exe file and after i restored it, click the Running Programs, it says "Error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename".
Any clues?
My Running Programs app is in the "default_103133" CAB file from my Mini. I run this file after hard reset.
What does that file do? Just open up the running programs control panel?
If you need it back, just type the following into a text file on your PPC
Code:
22#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4,2
and save it as Memory.lnk
Then double click on that file.
Tell me if it works ok.
V
@vijay
i just wanna return my magician to the default system . that's why i'm so curious to get back that program.
@ampda
i'll try that file. thx for the info.
I can post my CAB file but it will also add the O2 xda defaults that can with the Aussie unit

Thats right....just install that cab file "default_103133.cab" and you will have your Running Programs app back....that is, if you saved your Ext ROM files before doing the Big Storage patch, or someone can attach that cab file here.
Now my problem is (sorry this might be Off-topic) , how can I have back the AUTOCONFIG for different Telcos, (especially Asian) ? Its also gone after the Big Storage patch. I dont know which of the cab files I need to have it back
anyone have idea or is there a forum for this in Magician?
thanks...
THANK YOU!!! finally i can access my running programs.
anyway, ive another question . let's say i want that program to be installed automatically after I hard reset. how can you do that? so i do not have to restore them manually from my sd card. thx.

To get the menu and icon run O2Auto.sa.CAB, then install the telco(s) you want to be in the autoconfiq menu.
@nsriza, thanks!!! As simple as this, and I can have my Autoconfig back already?
I thought I need to manually edit the autoconfig.txt to change the paths of the cab files?
Btw, I have already installed the cab files for all the Telcos that I need....but not the O2Auto.sa.CAB yet. Is it okay if I install that O2Auto then install again the Telco cabs?
Thanks...
So has anyone knew how to setup auto installation for cab files (eg. MMS, SmartDialing etc) after hard reset? thx
another OOT question...what does autoconfig.txt and config.txt do? and how to use it?
thx
Im assuming your asking for auto installation for after a hard reset using big storage. if you search for "AutoRUn" on this forum you should find a link on how to create an autorun folder on your storage card. you need the autorun.exe (Found in the search for the link) and a folder called 2577 created in the root directory of your storage card. then all you need to do is add all the CABs that you want to auto install after a HR to a ZIP (not Rar) archive and call that archive extROM.zip. then put that in your 2577 directory and hardreset and it will install all the files in the zip. if you havent already installed the cabs you put in the zip it will actually start installing them as soon as you insert the SD card. have a search around you will find lots of info about this subject.

@Speedn
thx for the suggestion. it's very helpful.

hi i used big storage to convert my german rom (o2 xda mini) to wwe 1.12. now i lost some features like MMS,Smart dialling, Home zone control, O2plus. (as it was the case with you). It would be great if you could share here how did you get them back to work? i mean, i want the procedure to do so. i have a backup of my german rom.
one more question. i dont see the Phone pad option in my text input list after the bigstorage patch. how can i get it back. any suggestions would be so great..
thanx in advance
kk
@visvaram
if you backup ur extended_ROM, u should able to find related cab files, such as MMS**.cab, SMARTDIALING**.cab. Just tap those files and it will be installed automatically. FYI, backup ur cab files first b4 installing.
Im not sure about O2plus and zone files. Anyone care to help?
After every softreset the link to the Sim Toolkit is recreated in the startmenu -> programs folder. This is really annoying as I just don't use this program. Is there any way maybe in the registry to prevent it from being created? I am using the newest official T-Mobile GER ROM but i already had this problem with the first ROM that was installed.
I have the same problem!
i want to disable the stk menu from WM5
Did anyone tell me how to do?
Ok, I got an idea. Might sound stupid and is not the most ellegant solution but it will work: Why don't we put together a little program that deletes the shortcut and we put this program in the startup folder? This way the icon won't reappear after each soft-reset.
Can anybody here do this for me? Just a simple little program to delete the file. The one which needs to be deleted is:
\\Windows\Startmenü\Programme\Special.lnk
Thank you so much!
there is no stk.lnk shortcut in my windows\startup folder
but my stk menu is automatic start! why?
Hi there,
I'm having the same problem, in that there is a link to the STK appearing in my programs folder on each reset. I have tried deleting and moving the icon, setting it to 'hidden', and altering the registry setting (\\Windows\Startmenu\Programmes\O2.lnk (it's slightly different to the example in an above post, but it does link to STK)) to place it in a sub-folder called Phone (i.e. \\Windows\Startmenu\Programmes\Phone\O2.lnk), but on each reset my changes are removed.
Has anyone got any ideas how to permanently remove this - or at least how it is being recreated each reset? Is it installed as part of the O2 Active software?
Cheers all
Rory
Hi folks,
I currently have a problem with file explorer. I opened the windows folder and now I am stuck with the time icon, I wait...and I wait... and nothing happens it freezes the phone. After a soft reset and then going back into file explorer it goes back to the folder I last looked at which is the windows folder and freezes again.. so basically I can't use file explorer anymore? Any suggestions?
Steve
Is it locking up? or does it just need more time to load and display all the contents of \windows. Can you minimize file explorer by pressing the hang up key and work on something else, then go back later to file explorer. Are you able to change directories now?
Are you using a shortcut to launch file explorer
I always use Total commander for file management and \windows does take a while to load. It too tries to open the last used directory but if the folder is not available, eg network share, it defaults to the root directory after a warning. Not the answer to your problem, I know, but Total Commander is free and it is much better featured than the standard file explorer.

Try this on a Registry Editor:
HKLM - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastLocation - 0 (zero)
Soft Reset then try to launch File Explorer again.

Thanks folks, got it working. I needed to change the registery values. The phone was freezing up and even after 10 minutes was still not showing the contents of the windows folder.
Da_mayhem just fyi I edited the localpath folder from '/windows' to '/' this seemed to solve the problem. The lastlocation value was already set to 0 for some reason?
Thanks for your help guys...

I seem to have the same Problem with my HTC Touch (non-branded, German Version). However I do not have the aforementioned registry values. There is no "file explorer" unter HKLM - Software - Microsoft.
Any Ideas on how to get my file explorer running again?
In the meantime I'm using TotalCommander, however TC doesn't support sending files via Bluetooth, or at least not that I know of. I can only send via Infrared, or am I missing something?
What is REGISTRY EDITOR? Please help me that! I m having the same problem on my XDA ORBIT ii

I tried this, but didn't have a "File Explorer" entry. So I created one and the LastLocation value as noted, but it still opens in the Windows folder and locks up. Any clues?

perhaps because that is usualy in HKCU not HKLM.

I know this is an old post...but after extensive searching and frustration...S.V.I fixed my issue. I just wanted to say thanks to S.V.I
I couldn't find file explorer and it was freezing...like S.V.I pointed out- it is HKCU and not HKLM.
I had done 2 hard resets...and removing "windows" from the path fixed it.
Thanks to all that posted solutions here on this great site!
Update:
Spoke to soon...I can't enter my Windows folder at all using file explorer- I could earlier. I can enter anywhere else...just not my Window folder...I can with Resco explorer. I have to apply S.V.I suggestion to stop it from freezing...but magically-"\windows" keeps re-appearing in my registry.
Update:
Found another solution that actually worked for me!
open File Explorer
Click on Menu>Sort> change it to Name
I think i know the solution
i too have experienced the same problem like this. but then this is what i do. and it's surprisingly works.
1) soft reset your phone
2) click on file explorer again
3) the loading symbol will always appear, but for now just let it be.
4) close the file explorer by tapping 'hang up' key/button. this will supposedly bring you back to home screen
5) wait for half an hour or longer
6) open file explorer
7) the windows folder loaded successfully

Ayobi's solution worked.
I have a HTC Diamond 2 WM6.5. File explorer froze as I sorted the files in the Windows folder. Exactly followed Ayobi's suggestion. Got out of the mess.
I won't visit Windows folder again!!!
Thanks Ayobi and others for their suggestions.
Jay.

This definitely worked - on a related note you can go into Registry Editor (HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer) and change the SortOrder value to anything but 2 (apparently 2 is for Type). Soft reset and reload the program, and it should load a lot faster.

I had same problem, because I tried to sort Windows folder by file Type. Oops.
I know it's an old post, but here's my two cents (because this thread guided me to a slightly modified resolution.)
My resolution on Tilt2 TP2 WinMo 6.5 was found here:
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastLocation - 0 (zero)
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastPath - \ (slash)
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - SortOrder - 1
That did the trick for me. Was able to open File Explorer. Strangely, it took me to the Windows folder again; but didn't hang this time. Maybe because I skipped soft reset (so maybe registry change may not have taken effect entirely?)
Hi guys,
I installed Touch-IT Blackstone CommManager, but I want the original CommManager back.
If I try to uninstall it, it says that the Blackstone CommManager could not be fully removed and I have no idea how to get the original back.
Do you have any ideas? Thanks!
The original CommManager is in the folder " windows " of the device memory. Called " CommManager.exe "
But if I start this EXE (DEVICE\Windows\CommManager.exe) it starts the Blackstone CommManager. Where to put this file?
please help how to get it back
Noone any Idea?
Hello? Please, help me
you are crazy
u must rename that file to any name and make soft reset
which file? The "CommManager.exe" in Windows-Folder?
yeah
just try
can't rename it - no rights. what to do?
use total commander
I'm already using Total Commanger, but i can't change the privileges ("Read Only") or rename the file...
reboot and repeat agai n without entering pin
No effect. Reboot and Starting without PIN doesn't work.
All right, I did a hard reset now.
But thanks for all.
