juice defender - Acer Iconia A500

I just installed onto my Acer so I can't say how well it works.
Anybody try it yet and does it help with the cell standby issue?

This apparently works perfectly for me and has extended the device battery life. There is no cell radio so that appearing under battery information is clearly a bug. What I will say though isthat the sleep issues are not related to your tablet but your wifi router instead.

About battery drain issues on A500

There is a big debate about the issue of the telephony system draining the battery life on the Iconia A500.
One way to solve the problem is renaming the .apk causing it, but it can brick your device if you do a factory reset. The other aproach is to edit a single file and set the cell conection to GSM (so no constant polling).
But, IMHO, a process doesn't, consume power. The power is consumed by the hardware of the device. The mW consumed by a process should be the sum of display + system + wifi + other hardware during the period of time the process has been active.
However, the device suffering from a "Cell Standby" issue is a wifi only version, and it drains nearly a third of energy compared to the display comssuotion (a purely hardware part).
So, my question is, if something is consuming so much energy, could it be a hardware device?. Maybe the only part missing on the A500 is a less than 2$ sim socket.
Anybody brave enough to do a tear down of his device? (And do a lot of pictures, a la ifixit)

Hmm, I like your thinking. I might have a go. Mine arrives tomorrow.
I'd be very interested in this also.
I've noticed that on the status screen from the about screen on my wife's A500 it lists the sku as 3G and one of the version numbers is listed as A501. (Though the firmware is A500)
I am on my second A500 (first one appeared to have wifi issues) and neither has had a battery drain issue while using or in sleep mode. I do use Advanced Task Manager to exit any non-system tasks, but that should not make much of a difference.
I lose no more than 5% after ten hours in sleep mode and a full charged tablet lasts me a little over eight hours with (for me) heavy use. I have yet to have it die on me and if I do less Flash streaming, it lasts ten hours.
Of course, "use" is very subjective, which a a reason battery threads kind of tend to spin in circles.

Yes, I see the same thing, about 5-6% when sleeping overnight, and I think the chatter about battery drain is meaningless. Sure, it says "cell standby" is 30% but,
a) That is 30% of a small number , i.e., 30% of 6% = <2% loss
b) I tried some of the proposed solutions in the Battery Drain thread in the dev section - there was little difference before and after
I think the whole thing is a waste of effortg - the battery drain is no more than I had using CM7 on a rooted Nook Color - less than 1% per hour and I think all the related threads are solutions looking for a problem!

according to his post, there is no mobile broadband module. so if there is any battery drain from "cell signal" it would be because the system isn't able to sleep.
android simply thinks there is no service and isn't designed to ignore the cellular state when the hardware isn't present.
It's very clear from the pictures that there is no cellular module inside the wifi version
But, it 's also clear, the telephony system is polling for data, and waking up constantly the device (even when there's no hardware attached!!).
It's an Acer-centric problem, let's hope they fix it in the next update.

I thought the a500 does have a sim slot next to the sd card slot? You can see the cover over it

Ok. I can't post a picture because I haven't made enough posts but if you look at:

You will see an image of the device information screen on my a500. Does everyone else see the same? I'm just curious as to whether all a500s are created equal.

Ridiculous Wifi sharing bug draining our batteries.

Everyone should know about this, if your phone gets warm for no reason wifi sharing may be running eating up your battery see:
androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2/365603-ridiculous-wi-fi-sharing-bug.html
There is no permanent fix for this without rooting. I use "osmonitor" app to detect when it is eating up the CPU making the phone warm and draining my battery and then I have to kill wifisharing manually each time when I see wifisharing cpu load shoots up to 40%
In osmonitor change the sort order to sort by load with the highest load at the top. And enable the show CPU usage in the notification area.
This is continually happening to me, looks like I will be forced to root the phone. Does any body know of a fix without rooting? Has this bug been officially raised with Samsung ? Where do we report bugs to Samsung?
i use watch dog this kills the process when it reaches a certain threshold! let me know if you need further assistance.

Can some with membership rights please post a proper link to the wifi sharing bug thread as I cannot do so.
Can that thread be made sticky so that all S2 owners can find out about this issue, as I did not see it.
A sticky is one option, but a cursory search of the forums would also have turned up the thread. Not having a go at you, just a suggestion.

[Q] Can I improve my battery life with 3G/2G ALWAYS on ?

Hi experts,
I have a HD2, running HyperDroid CM7 v3.0.1 (based on Android 2.3.5). I MUST have 3G/2G always on, as I receive push notifications from WhatsApp, CNN, WordsWithFriends, etc. Also, I have disabled all background automatic syncing for all my apps (confirmed by 3G Watchdog Pro). I am a medium-heavy HD2 user.
Currently, my standby battery drain is 11-15 mA (measured by Battery Monitor Widget). The original battery does'nt last me a day.
I had installed JuiceDefender for a week ... but, it showed no improvement in battery life (with customised settings, to take into account my above requirements). I uninstalled it yesterday.
Can I improve my battery life under these circumstances ? I need my battery to last about 3-4 hours more ... so, that I can charge it just once a day every evening. I don't want the extended battery with the ugly hump.
I had searched the forum ... but, could'nt find an answer for my situation.
Thanx in advance.
cheers,
- manish
PS. Mods: Apologies for the double posting .... I later realized, I would get a better response in this sub-forum.
You can use only 2g network instead of 3g which will save energy.

I need my 3G connection for faster loads while working on my HD2.
I have read in posts on this forum that some users are getting a standby battery drain of 2-7 mA with data on and, sometimes, WiFi on !!!!! Any tips from these users how to reduce standy battery drain ? Or, other tips to enhance battery life ?
cheers,

battery drain

Hello everyone,
My battery drains so fast and I don't know what to do.
It seems an application is open that drains it but I cannot turn it off.

Doubt it but what is true is that you and the OP did not even bother to read the rules or the stickies .
Thousands of battery drain posts all identical you cannot expect members to continually point out the basics that is not what this forum is for .

You might need to close all your running applications. Plus close wifi, sync & others when not in need. Or it could also be your downloaded apps that have advertisements on it. This will automatically lights up your phone even on stand by mode. Try uninstalling them, download ad free apps on google play so you will know what are your installed apps that have ads on it. Hope these help!
Depending on what you are running on your phone, ie; Stock Samsung Official Firmware or Custom Firmware Via CWM etc,
There are many many posts about battery drain & how to solve the problem, I thought the same, but I persisted and found what I needed.
OK, I am sure you know about custom roms, some stable, some not. many have battery drain problems, many dont.
I advise if you are running a custom rom, go to the thread for that rom and read about any problems about battery, if not post in the thread
and ask the person who made the rom for help. battery drain could be anything, which includes a bad flash or installation.
Anyway I hope you get sorted.
Every time i hear somebody suggests To close almost everything that make a smartphone deferent than a common phone I wonder if android has many problems to solve.. A smartphone is smart because of the services that it offers...

Totally agree redcom7, a smartphone is just that, if everything is turned off then what's the point???
Android is not perfect but it is pretty dam good, battery drain issues are more likely in custom roms.
I am running a custom rom which I researched prior to install, now it's in it lasts on average 14 - 19 hrs longer than the Official Firmware
and that is with everything running.
You are right everything does not need turned off, just a bit of common sense mixed with research and everything should be fine. :good:
I am running omega rom.
The thing is that when I flashed this rom it didn't have battery issues. But now it does!
So I thought an application drains the battery and I wiped everything but it still drains it.
The app is called media as you can see on my screenshot.
I really don't know what to do...
I wiped battery stats and it seems better now...
I'm thinking of changing kernel. Would that help?

My phone battery timing is about a day with normal usage.
Its 4.1 J.B
And I also want to find out some new tips and tricks.
Thanks.

Depends on use. Stock I only get about 7 hours with my use. With tweaking I usually double my battery life.

You have the media scanner bug. There are various solutions but the most common one is to reformat your SD card.
You can stop it happening temporarily by force closing media scanner but it will return when you reboot the phone.

ROM Sotmax Ultimate V8
Kernel Yank555.lu-V2.7a
'Rescan media root' solved a problem I was having with battery drain from media.
Also, I also used to think that shutting down some android services was defeating the purpose of having a smart phone. Unfortunately, I was losing 20-30% battery when at work for about 5 hours. Recently I've started switching off data while working (I can't use my phone when working anyway) and now my drain over the same amount of time would be around 5%.

Galaxy S6 edge Battery Life, confirmed culprits so far

Hello all,
So we have all seen varying battery life as well as many different attempted solutions to make for less battery drain.
We have heard of the Cell Standby bug, draining a ton of battery
And yet for many, battery was still really bad.
This post is to show confirmed culprits of the battery drain that some of us have experienced, and to give the best, most up to date solution that has proven to make a difference :
For me, cell standby was the first and main issue. Turning off VoLTE did nothing, but turning off WiFi caused that drain to disappear. However, the battery was far from reasonable.
I noticed a couple apps crashing, so I went ahead and froze the preloaded amazon app using greenify. This resulted in the best battery cycle I have had with an S6 edge. Others have tried and confirmed that the preloaded amazon store seems to be causing a strange battery drain. Disabling that one completely seems to make a healthy difference.
Also, make sure you are using the charger that came with the phone, to allow the battery to calibrate. Share your results and suggestions below, and whatever we confirm as a potential help in battery life I will add here.

My phone doesn't go into deep sleep. Not even on a fresh installation with only CPU Spy installed.
Samsung bloat is disabled, a lot of popular wakeups disabled via App Ops, and still nothing.
For me no deep sleep, email sync is the top % user, after making the changes OP suggested, WiFI off, Amazon and many others disabled. Battery still sucks

Download greenify and see what apps it suggests to freeze through it, that's how I first caught the amazon issue. Also, make sure wifi calling is off and Always scan wifi is off. Give it about 4 charging cycles with the charger that came with the phone only (DO NOT use a universal charger or any charger that didn't come with your Edge) if this still doesn't fix it and an app like gsam can't catch anything wrong, might be a defective unit.
