Happened to me too last wednesday. Was a prob with market and not with SGS 2. 12 hours later everything worked fine.
Maybe market servers are overloaded ny people like us stuffing their SGD 2 full with nice apps .........

Hi guys,
My phone today just decided to not show me Top Paid apps/games in the Market place anymore. I haven't rooted or unlocked yet so no idea why the sudden change. I've tried clear market cache, reboot etc but no change.
Anybody have an idea why this has suddenly happened please?
Thankyou!
Mine has been doing this for a week now. It happens randomly and I have yet to understand why it is doing this.
If you are using marketenabler, try to fake another carrier. Worked for me a couple of times. (The second post came from t-mobile in the US so I guess it's something else... anyway, it worked for me a couple of times)
where are you located, do you have a sim in your phone and did you change any settings before vthis happened?
Mine did not start this til about the third day I had my phone. Never had any issue like this til I got my N1. Now it seems that for about a half day, every day i get the message "No matching content in android Market" under the Top paid apps tab.
I am having the same problem.
packetls (sp?) in another thread suggested using MarketSpoof. http://blog.vegeby.nu/2010/01/20/marketspoof-2-2-requires-root/
...Everything seems fine, browsers work, phone works, connected to wifi (so it says), background working, tried to dowload updates the dowlad bars show but no progress, tried to down load free and paid apps, again down load bars show but no progress.
did a couple of soft resets still the same, Ill leave it over night in case the app store is down then try a hard reset, unless someone comes up with an answer before then.
I had this same problem with a Samsung Captivate. ATT couldn't help(after swapping sims, making sure I had the correct data plan listed), Samsung couldn't help(after broken English conversation for an hour), nothing in the forums helped. I could only solve it by hard resetting the phone, but the problem came back after 3 days. I never found out what caused it, I just returned the phone. Try the market using 3G, I doubt this will help, but once my Streak wouldn't download apps over wifi this week, so i turned wifi off and BAM back in business B-)

Hi, I had this issue when I first got my Streak, I had to log into the Talk app with my gmail address and then the downloads started
Hi guys, I am having a problem with downloading apps through cellular data on my mytouch 4g. I can download them fine if I am on wifi but it gets stuck on "starting download" progress bar without it. I've tried clearing the data for the market app, restoring it back to factory, and the google talk sign in; none of these worked for me. This is driving me crazy and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update: Fixed nvm
How did you fix it?
yeah how you fixed it would be nice as mine is doing the same thing... ugh wish t-mo could have just brought a legit phone out
Turn On Wifi
Even if there is no wifi connection, on my MT4G the wifi has to be enabled for the market to download.
I think this may be fixed on the new update that came out today. I still haven't seen my update yet. :-( mine still does this too.

Go into settings/wireless networks/mobile network or operator and select Tmobile network. Even it is checked select it and make sure your phone is gsm/wcdma checked. WCDMA only created problem for me. Also if you have temp root you will not get the update as long as it is running on your phone. In addition, if you disabled any bloatware you have to restore it before the update. Once I disabled Visionary and restored back to factory I got the update in a couple of hours.
This is a really weird problem but it has to do something with the connection to the google servers (mainly google talk). This is evident by the fact that you are signed off and can not connect to google talk when you're stuck on the starting download phase of downloading the app(s). There are two ways around this problem that I've seen so far
1. Before you want to download an app, run google talk and make sure you're signed in, then sign out and sign in again. Go download the app(s) afterwards. Once you do this after you first power on the phone, it should last until you power it off.
2. Another way is go and try to download an app(s) you want and it will be stuck on the starting download bar. DO NOT cancel the download, just restart the phone and it should start downloading once the phone is back on.
P.S. The update did not fix this issue because I still have to deal with it.
If I learn anything new, I will keep you posted.

I got the update with Superuser and root just fine.
Not to rub it in, but I'm really glad that I am not experiencing this problem. I'm liking the phone too much to have a reason to bring it back!
Ok I have found out that the Google talk sign out sign in trick does not always work while the restarting one always works. It definitely is something to do the Google servers and the way the phone syncs with them. What I found interesting is that when you open the market app, immediately experience this problem as you can not sync under accounts settings and services like Google talk stop working. Another thing is that it seems to be the HSPA and HSPA+ connections causing the issue, the apps won't dl on them but it will start immediately as your phone drops to edge. I don't know if this is a hardware, software issue with the phone or the Google servers getting adjusted to the mytouch 4gs since they just came out.
Think I'm going to exchange my phone since not a lot of people have this problem.
Sorry to bring up an old thread but i'm now having this issue aswell. I've tried to clear data, can't download on Wifi or 3g. When i click ok it just says the download will be started and nothing happens, Sometimes if i play around i can get it to go to say starting download but just sits there then i will get either a network error to retry or cancel. Sometimes it's just a download unsuccessful and i click ok.
I tried resetting aswell and still same issue. Not sure how to sign out of google talk.. haven't quit got the hang of android yet but i'm actually not happy right now!
it stays blocked at "starting download" on any item.
tryed gtalk logout/login -> nothin. the gtalk won't even login (srv not respponding try again later).
my mail is at "gmail" not "googlemail".
phone: samsung galaxy s2 (bought yesterday).
i tried downloading only via 3g data from my carrier and not with WIFI
any suggestions?

I have the same trouble since the weekend. I use the new market v.3.1.3. But also after I switched back to the old market the problem still exist. May be the Google servers are a bit overloaded these days?
Had the same issue a few times since the weekend. Seems to be ok now though.

so... i had the same problem too! you have to wait longer... than the usual pacience...
IF clearing data in settings/program/manage program/market... didn't work, then solution is the following....
After accepting agreement in market, go to the app you want to download and install. BIT LET THE PICTURRS AND ALL LOAD BEFORE PRESSING INSTALL, then it will work if you always do that, but must first clear data as described.
Hope it helps and works for you all, it did for me...all times, as I flash constantly
I had some problem with my N4.
Canadian model.
It not rooted and everything is like new.
Since 2 days, i have strange problems with it. my applications stopped by themself when i use them. im chatting on facebook messenger and suddently messenger has stopped. im opening Facebook and it close by himself and when i try to open it again, it a white page. Im playing candy crush, and the s voice appear from nowhere.
I checked if the memory was use at maximum but it not the case. I rebooted the phone but it still happening. I reinstalled facebook but same problem happen. This kind of problem didn't appear until 2 days ago. I have the phone since the october 28.
I havent check with others apps up to now since im always busy on the road but someone got a solution for me?
I'd suggest you do a factory reset. If the issue persists, exchange your phone.
