[Q] System update? - Acer Iconia A500

Yesterday I got a popup message stating that there is a system update available. Version 1.126.03. If I remember correct. I clicked the download. Now it wants to be installed. Is this a honeycomb update or a acer?
I am scared. My acer is rooted, could it be harmed?
Anyone else got this? Maybe i have a older iconia a500 than you. I got mine from singapore.

Must be an EU update. I haven't seen anything yet.

Nothing here yet either.

Nothing here in us winder what it a dresses

I don't know where to look. It was 20mb big. Is there some search app in market that can search on size?

No update available here in Greece yet.

No update here in Italy... waiting for some news about it...

no update found in netherlands. 'Your device is up to date'

No updates in france

Nothing here in the US unless it happened automatically.

I also got message on screen about new update yesterday when I powered on my tab. I went ahead with the update, but have not noticed any significant differences after the update. My iconia was bought from Taiwan, but now used in Finland. It's not rooted though..
Under settings/About tablet there are now the following versions:
Android version 3.0.1
Kernel version 2.6.36.3
Build number Acer_A500_1.126.03_COM_GEN1
Not sure what those versions were before I applied the update..

If only 20mb, must be some patches.

call acer
if you are not sure call/go to there site and see if they have any updates listed

no update on acer us site.

With Jake's data I can at least confirm that his builds and versions after he applied the update are different from mine.
I got my A500 a couple of days ago here at Best Buy in Boston, MA. I am not getting any notification of any System update, but my data is as follows:
Android Version: 3.0.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3-00001-g9b3ce2b
Build Number: Acer_A500_1.104.02_COM_GEN1
So, Jake's build number after the update is higher at least.
----
Doc Kinne
Somerville, MA
Nexus 1 running 2.3.3
Iconia A500 running 3.0.1

bought mine in Dallas on Sunday, same version numbers as kinnerc

well.. i desided to install the update that i downloaded. Got a message that its invalid and canceld. Now i cant update anymore. Its up to date it says.
Strange.!!!

Maybe certain geographically located servers released a build too soon? Who knows.

US Update - Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2

So according to the file here - http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...A TAB&Step3=A500&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_7
B. Country: USA
- Supported OS version: Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM_GEN1
- Upgrade to OS version: Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2
Usa should have "Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2"
However is ANYONE getting that update? I manually ran "Acer_A500_4.010.22_COM_GEN1" but obviously that does not appear to be the right one for the US model, thats for UK/France/Italy/Spain.
If anyone has Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2 update.zip please post it.
Thats the build number I have. It came OTA back on the 6th, update to 3.1. I think that if you search the forums, the update .zip had been posted, I just can't for the life of me remember where.
got 4.010.08 ota a few days ago, then 4.010.09 two days ago, and now I am on 4.010.10.
same for me!

TIA
How are you guys getting builds above .08? Are you and your device in the US. I'm in dire need of an update but still on this original one releases last week. 08

are we ever getting the update here in the Mid-West?
Well I am really starting to wonder then, I have never gotten ANY update.
I restored back to stock 1.104.02_COM_GEN1 and recovery, no update.
I updated manually with update.zip for 1.141.07_COM_GEN1, and back to stock recovery, no update.
I have tried from different networks and internet connections just in case something was blocked. I am in Florida BTW.
It NEVER sees and update. Any suggestions anyone?
be patient, i believe the US rollout might be slow due to updates???
No i havent gotten mine either.....
Bump.
So no one has received "Acer_A500_4.010.08_COM_GEN2"?
I've tried going back to stock images:
1.104.02_COM_GEN1 - No updates
1.141.07_COM_GEN1 - No updates
4.010.01_COM_GEN2 - No updates
4.010.04_COM_GEN1 - No updates
So to sum that up, I've never seen an OTA on any build... any thoughts guys?

Just got this Iconia at Costco July 3.
I registered it at startup. Never received an unsolicited OTA update. But used setting/about tablet/System update.
Got the original .08 3.1 about 7/5 or so, never wrote it down
Acer Iconia Bought 7-3-11
Acer_A500_4.010.09_COM_GEN2 on 7-11-11
Acer_A500_4.010.10_COM_GEN2 on 7-13-11
Running 1st OTA leak of 4.010.04_com_gen1 that was rooted and loaded via CWM, and managed to get 4.010.10 via OTA last night while I'm out in Boston. Connection was through hotel's Comcast wifi network if that may help map out the roll-out.
Of course it didn't work as I don't have the stock bootloader and it fails when you try. It's a small update of something like 80mb or so. Obviously from a few posts here, someone's thought that the last .10 number refers to region is not correct and it is the standard version format that we all know. (major.minor.patch) At least for 3.1 at any rate.

Acer_A500_4.010.40_COM_GEN1 is the highest one I have seen now... it almost seems as though the last 2 digits are random at this point. I can't see acer putting out a build per day.

.40 is an update for the international Eurasia versions of the tablet. ie: Thailand, Aussie, India, Swiss.
.38 seems to be an update for the European versions of the tablet ie: France, UK, Spain.
To clarify, .22 (Euro - UK, France, Spain, etc.) ROMS should update to .38 and .24 (Eura - Swiss, India, Thailand, Aussie) ROMS should update to .40
I haven't seen a US update yet. I myself got .08. I'm completely stock, not even rooted, never have and mine came on the 6th.
Someone in here reported being updated to .10, that MAY be ours.

At least for me, the file I'm getting is mentioned in the post linked above.
I have firmware version: Acer_A500_1.105.01_EMEA_GEN3
And my tab is downloading: cdn.acer.futuredial.com/Acer_A500_0.000.00_4.010.42_EMEA_GEN3_1311244577711_036d89ae.zip
I'm having problems installing it though. That is, the download hangs (in the tablet) about 0.01 MiB short of finishing and stays there. Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Funnily enough, I just checked and it had hanged again at the 210 MiB mark.
I solved it by configuring my LAN router to re-route (iptables rule) all packets coming from my Wi-Fi network to my development workstation. Then I used the sniffed ota-checkin request I had from earlier tingling and placed it along with the firmware image in my local apache2 document root. Then I just cancelled the update on the tab, and re-started it by running a manual check for updates. The tab downloaded the image and appears to have successfully installed it.
Perhaps you could do something similar with your router, or simply install it manually by throwing the decrypted ROM image in the MicroSD card as explained in the link 2-3 posts above.
Hope it helps,
Martín.
Once again the US will be the last to get the OTA update. Thank God for good DEVs making ROMS to play with.
Awesome!!!
Finally the one is here.... just for the record I was too damn tired of waiting, went .22 COM1 with the "Vache Way", then OTA updated to .38, working great, 3.1 rocks, but now finally 3.1 for EMEA GEN3, restored my stock backup (always do a backup) then all back to old factory reset, 3.0, checked for updates and now I'm downloading 4.010.42, I did this because the only problem I had was no freaking GPS, nothing, no sats connected, pretty poor reception... now let's see if the official OTA works better... plus is a higher firmware
OTA now availiable to EMEA GEN3 in Mexico, brought it here.
I'm in the Netherlands with two Iconias in the house. My fiancé received the update OTA last night. On the first try he got "update invalid" after downloading, but the install succeeded on the second try. Now his tablet is showing as having 4.010.42_COM_GEN1 , though it was on GEN3 before the update.
My own Iconia (bought at the same time from the same shop) has not yet been updated to 4.010.42, but I did get the 1.141.01_EMEA_GEN3 update back in May. My finance never got that update and was running with out-of-the-box firmware until last night's update.
Hope I will get the update soon- so annoying that two Iconias bought at the exact same time would not get the same updates.
I went from the EMEA_GEN3 version to .38_COM_GEN1 a couple of weeks ago because I wanted to have 3.1 and couldn't wait for the OTA-update. Just did the manual update to .42_COM_GEN1 (using the files/ decrypter java class found on this forum) without any problems... So now I have the 'original' Dutch 3.1 update on my device...
Although I think it's weird EMEA_GEN3 updated to COM_GEN1

I had both problems my first attempt showed a file error the second one hanged at 210MiB, the third and fourth one hanged at 0.01 MiB short. What I did was to turn off the tablet, and restart it to recovery (having power and volume down to start), it showed "clearing cache" and stuff then hanged on warning icon, turned off and on again for normal boot and manually checked for updates and it downloaded ok, and installed ok.
After calling 4 times with Acer Support in The Netherlands, I lost my temper this morning.
I told them that I would return the Tab if they didn't come with a solution today.
Within 30 minutes I suddenly got a message telling me that there was an update on my Tab?????????
So getting furious does help solve problems with Acer
Suggested solution worked for me too.
I just got the 4.010.42 today and was told the update was invalid after downloading. I tried this three times!
Then i followed e_orea's instructions and booted into recovery and resetting when hanging on warning symbol.
Downloading full file again and this time it installed without problem.
So now all is good! Thanks for all the excellent tips and information!
changed from EMEA to COM
hey guys, I've just noticed something yesterday; my tab originally came with EMEA_GEN3 (I live in Mexico), but with the latest HC 3.1 update it became COM_GEN1. I am hoping thiss will make updates come earlier for me (same timeframe as people in the US).

You probably need to download the US version from asus downloads and manually update to that. That should solve your problems as the system will only recognize the original firmware locations.

i didn't say it was the only way, as you do have an US tab and you updated to WW i don't seem why it don't give you an FOTA update as its same tab just some other languages *Mostly* but what do i know its nothing i can do, and i think your tab is seen as US tab still, if your using WW so US hasn't yet got their update, but soon they will i guess,
Unfortunately the update system will only recognize the original firmware.... so if your tab as originally US then you update to TW it will not accept the update ( i tried when the TW update came out) it doesnt matter where you are. I have a WW but i bought it in canada and am now in indonesia so i figured why not try the TW and see if i get the update. It failed but when i went to WW it came up instantly.
Thanks guys!so,now I try to update manually to 8.6.5.21-20111216 US?
I had the same issue, first had an US version but after unroot I've flashed
the WW version and apparently these aren't scheduled for update yet, didn't get update notifications for ICS .
So what i did was return to the original US stock version and did this with NVFLash
after the US firmware was loaded it went through all the updates sequentially and ended with ICS = me a Happy TF owner
Had the same problem. Then i've rooted the TF and flashed the root version.
Very hppy now, everything is fine now.

For the ppl that flashed back to stock where did you get the ROM from? I did the same (came from Revolver ROM) and flashed back to stock (US version) but no updates showing.
You can get all the regional versions of Asus stock firmware from the asus download site
http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/#download
Just choose the Region that you originally had WW or US or whatever
The update will only work for the original firmware region because it is tied to your serial number in the ASUS database or something like that.
Edit: if you have CWM (custom recovery) get one of these:
Revolver: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518768
Android Revolution : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245892

Thanks everyone for your help. I was able to finialy get ICS update FOTA. For those who are still having issues here is what I did:
-Started with rooted TF running Revolver ROM
-NVFlashed to a stock ROM (the flash should have removed root and CWM I'm told)
-Noticed my TF still did not see any update, stock ROM I flashed was 3.1 older stock ROM and may be part of the reason it would not update (not totally sure the reasons)
-Went to Asus official download site and D/L the US firmware update
-Unzipped that file on a Micro SD card (root directory)
-Put Micro SD card into my running (older) stock TF and the triangle popped up on the task bar saying there was an update, tap that and let it update.
-now was updated to the latest stock Asus 3.2 ROM and checked updates..it found that i needed an update and d/l ICS!!
May be an easier way to get ICS, but for me I was hearing issues others had using some of the prepared ICS ROMs on here vs. letting the TF FOTA update.
So far so good!

Anyone in Canada got the OTA update (OTA, not the download)?

If you did get it where are you and which gen?
Gave up waiting so downloaded and installed the OTA that is posted here - install went perfectly and everything works.
Nothing yet. Keep getting wifi network failure error as noted on the acertabletforum.com forum. Hoping acer will fix this. I'd like to see the tablet work as intended. If I have to force the updates again like I did for 3.2 ill be pissed .

Yeah, it's tempting but I'll wait for a while. So far 21 views for this thread and no one's said "I got the OTA." It looks like it's not rolling out here yet.
Nada for Alberta...
I've been hitting "System update" every hour on the hour since midday Thursday. Nothing where I am in Alberta. I've seen some conflicting messaging on when Canada will be getting the OTA. The Acer site says 04-27, I've seen elsewhere 05-03.
I'm itching to get on with it. Downloading the posted update.zip on XDA now. Still haven't decided if I am going to use it.
And to keep the focus on the OP, if anyone has received the OTA please share the GEN. I'm assuming it's the same one posted, but ya never know.

Same here in Nova Scotia.
Things have changed
I have recently hit the update tab and I am no longer getting the wifi message... now back to "your up to date" ... with no ICS ... I think it will be here soon... or maybe I am just an optomist
This is very odd since I am in Halifax and got my OTA on the 27th. I had stock 3.2.1 rooted (had to remove root or the install failed).
Before build: Acer_A500_7.014.02_COM_GEN2
After build: Acer_AV041_A500_1.0333.00_PA_CUS1
When you eventually get the upgrade, you get an offer to "install now" or "install later". Choose the "install later" option or when your root causes the install to fail you will have to re-download the 400mb file again.
BTW, this combination listed above has none of the bugs or issues listed in other OTA release upgrade threads.

Well, this evening I pulled the trigger on Update.zip with my stock unrooted rom. It went flawlessly and al my dozens of apps seem to be functional. It's much more zippy and responsive than HC. I'm impressed.
There using 1 server to distribute. So expect throttling for a bit. The US ones are still going strong, know several who are getting the updates fine.
Best they do this to avoid corrupted data in updates. Otherwise more peopel need to distribute the offcial regional builds.
DOn't want a HTC repeat of an issue where phones ended up bricked.
5 days of waiting. . . . . .
I also have a GEN1 A500 from Canada, specifically build Acer_A500_7.014.14_COM_GEN1 and I got impatient waiting for the OTA update so I installed the Acer_A500_7.014.14_041.203.01_COM_GEN1 update from the bottom of the first post on this page. I had no problems at all completeling the update and everything seems to be working fine with ICS.
The Op is actually linking straight to Acer's official update server with the ICS links in that post. Remember that if you choose to download these official ROM's you'll need to decrypt the downloaded zip file with the tool mentioned at the top of the first post and follow the rest of the instructions in the How to use full/update package in that first post as well.
If you stick it out and wait for the OTA I am curious as to what build you finally end up with. My build after the update above is Acer_AV041_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1
Still nothing here in Toronto wow!!! Acer Fail!!!!

Acer: Hi, my name is ****** *********. How may I help you?
Me: Hi, I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and was wondering when the update to Ice Cream Sandwich would be available to me? I'm still unable to download it.
Acer: I understand that you are unable to get the ICS update on your tablet.
Acer: Let me see what best can be done for you.
Me: Thanks!
Acer: You are welcome, ******.
Acer: May I have the serial number?
Me: Where do I find that information?
Acer: Please click on the below link to get the serial number.
Acer: URL
Me: Oh, the SNID. I didn't realize they were the same thing since I included it in the information before I requested the chat. Sorry!
Me: The number is: **********
Acer: Thank you, ******.
Acer: ******, this is to inform you that the update for the ICS is available and is being released in batches, we recommend you to keep the automatic update enabled through Apps > Settings > About Tablet > System Update > Check the box for “Automatically check for system updates”. This will help the tablet detect an update as soon as it’s available for your product. This update will be available for all the A500 tablets.
Me: Thank you! I will keep automatic update on. In the FAQ's, it mentions being rolled out over the period of a week. Should I receive it today at some point in that case?
Acer: You are welcome, ******.
Acer: You will get the update soon.
Me: Ok great, thank you very much!
Acer: We are unable to provide you the estimated time.
Acer: You are welcome.

C'mon ppl , this is likely Da Fix everyone here been waiting for . Lets get bz trying to create CWM or NVFlash version of complete .4 image. Any other countries see this rolling out yet ?
In Spain is rolling out too. Installed and testing. We'll see if tomorrow morning the SoD's are gone.
Downloaded and installed here in South Africa as well.
Still have the problem that the tablet reboots as soon as I unlock with simcard for 3g use.
Didn't have this problem before ICS.
I'm hoping this will also sort out the random closing of programs I've had of late.
Very happy to see an update.
Sent from my Transformer TF101G using Tapatalk
No SoD's or reboots til' now, but this update isn't the long awaited tf101's .24 equivalent for tf101g, as there isn't face recognition unlock or improved mail application as there are on .24.
My tf101g had a SoD an hour ago. I think that 9.2.2.4 is .21 for the 3g version, so problems are not solved.
In Hungary is rolling out too.
In Hungary is rolling out too. I will install and testing.
Update: No FC, No reboot yet. Without wakelock. 16 hours ago!
Also in Latvia
The question is do I even need this update just to get unzip function for never used File Manager and restore tab function for never used browser. The rest of the updated apps doesn't even count. So what exactly is ment by 'Improves system stability'?
No sign of this update yet for me in UK - anyone else?
Any word on if this update was the one that was also supposed to be pushed to the non 3G devices?
apparently, the "main" stability fix we're all waiting for is not out yet, but is getting ready for FOTA ... hrs ? days ?
"gary" from ASUS stated as much somewhere, today.
I'm from Poland. I received update (9.2.2.4) a few days ago.
I had reebots before the update so I was hoping it would resolve the problem.
Unfortunatelly nothing has changed.
I have 1-2 reebots a day.
Asus - GET TO WORK!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone figured out what this update actually does? Asus haven't provided any information that I can find
Update:
So I bit the bullet and started the update... and now it's frozen in the middle of the update process
Update 2:
I held down the power button to force it off. Turned it on again and the update process restarted. It's still going at the moment, and has passed the point where it previously froze. *crosses fingers*
I've also received the update and lost my root rights. Voodoo Root Keeper, Nachoroot and TSparkyRoot doesnt work. Does someone else have this problem too?
9.2.2.4 is worse
Hi i received 9.2.2.4 on 12 may in south africa. When the transformer tf101g goes to sleep i cannot wake it. First time i waited the 100 hours for the battery to go flat. Now of course one can push volume down as you boot.
Is there any way to get it back to factory defaults like a laptop?
Don't think the previous images are kept anywhere.
Thanks
can you guys upload 9.2.2.4 OTA update .zip package?
image available from asus
Sorry to take so long to answer. I do have 9.2.2.4 WW . The image is also available from asus support. Our internet connections are really slow in sourh africa but i will upload from work if you like. Just tell me where to upload to.
