So I've been going back and forth about which Android phone is going pop my cherry and I've decided to allow myself to be deflowered by either the X or Fascinate. I'm in the midst of an ugly break-up with my Touch Pro (I know, I'm due) and it's about time to send that phone packing.
I've got a bit of trepidation about the X's size... It might be too big for me. I may want to ease myself into this, ya know. (in all seriousness I'm not sure that thing will fit into the shirt pocket on my uniform while I'm at work)
But I've heard rumors that the fascinate is dirty. From what I've seen it's got Bing's disease. Please tell me that someone here will have a prescription for that shortly after it hits the market.
it may be a option...
Maybe its just an option for search providers. This will also be my first, I will be moving up from a moddoded Omnia 910
I got a chance to see the X the other day when I went into the verizon store, they had it activated and made it a big deal I was being able to see it by taking me into the back room. I must say, its big.. but it should fit into a shirt pocket.. at least width wise lol. Looking at the specs for the Fascinate and everything I really dont find it all that special. That being said, I will be the owner of an X by the end of the week :O
The Galaxy S has already been rooted, not like it's hard to replace the launcher and everything and use your own search provider.

Wonder what you mean by not all that special because spec wise it stands at the top of the heap with the droidx. And if your speaking about the higher spec camera, that's been out done by the iPhone. Or the 3 mics. Remember this has a smaller but better screen. Better processor and gpu and its footprint is smaller. Don't get me going on the hardware locked bootloader the x has. All in all I will get this in a second screw Bing
omg
i cannot believe the people that are dancing around like little girls because there is a "bing" search widget.
Holy ****, seriously. Just delete the widget off the front screen and use a google widget..
This kind of stupidity makes me sad for the human race. To quote Fight Club, " A generation of men raised by women".

Thanks. I couldn't agree more. I've been toying with the idea of getting this phone and here and other forums have people complaining about Samsung's decision to go with Bing like we can't do anything about it. You don't even need root to get rid of Bing
I cant believe what i am see...HAS anyone on here actually used bing with the navigation before... don't get caught up in the name.. it work just as fine( In my opinion better the gmaps)
I've used Bing on the PC, never find a useful thing and has a cluttered results list. No way would I want it on my phone either. Handset makers and carriers should leave this choice in the hands of the end user.

Anyone notice it's not going to be able to use Google Navigation either?
You're going to have to pay for VZ Navigation...check the training documents.
That's a huge WTF
Hope the documents are wrong too about the ram, they're listing it in the 300's instead of 512 like all the other Galaxy phones
Verizon is back to it's "lets see how bad we can nerf and screw up this phone" days
It will have 512mb ram. It will have gmapps and navigation. Its an android phone. I would b freaking stunned if it didn't have these. Ill b getting one either way. I'm got rid of my dinc and x for the captivate on att and can't wait til I get my fascinate. The CPU and GPU are the absolute best in a mobile device anywhere period. This is going to b a great device. Even my 5mp camera and camcorder on my captivate is WAY better than either of the 8mp shoooters on the x or dinc. Trust me. These will b the best overall phone on vzw. Better than the x or the dinc. Period. I've had every Droid phone vzw has to offer. The captivate blows them all away

So, what will happen when you press the hardware search button? Will it be Bing? Will we have the option to change it to Google?
I will be rooting my phone and likely running a custom ROM once available (love you devs), but I'm not a fan of Bing.

youre wrong on all 3 points. You can use Google Maps/Nav, Specs are listed as 512MB Flash/384MB RAM with 2GB of Internal Memory, Verizon hasnt crippled any Android, its upto the manuf to come up with the hardware, the carrier can set limits on what the device does on their network, such as AT&T

sounds like all BS to me.
First off, 2.1 can only use 384mb of ram or so - so if what you say is true about hte documents, it is accurate until 2.2 is out to enable highmem for the full 512mb of ram
EVEN if they blocked google navigation (which makes NO sense, because it is available on Verizon's other android phones), you could still install it or root your phone and install it.
Because this phone is already rootable, nothing in this thread is relevant or anything to be afraid of.
You can change the background, change home launchers, change the search widgets, etc etc...
I think some of you don't understand the possible issues this might have.
Verizon took away my option to have Google, or any other search provider as my default search, when I had my blackberry. Woke up, and (bam!) all that was there was, was Bing. Google and all my other search providers was gone. You could still use Google by bookmarking it tho, but that was extra steps for no reason.
Verizon has shown by my example they can cripple a phone if they so choose.
Worst case scenario? (And I hope it isn't)
Unlike blackberry, Google is deeply integrated into Android. If Verizon broke Google integration, and replace it with Bing integration, then that would be worse then you think. That means even if you replace the widget with a Google one, (for example) it won't stop links in the browser from defaulting to Bing when you click on them. Another example would be Bing maps would open instead of Google maps. Another limitation would be Bing's voice search, which can't compare to Google's.
That search/magnifying glass button would only open Bing search, A nightmare.
If that's the case, I forsee a LOT of rooted phones... running Google.

Its alright. If he had a brain, he'd realize that even replacing the widget doesn't replace the default search provider. Trolls these days.
Anyways.. Two words.. Verizon Sucks..
Love their network, hate their bloat.
I bet first thing that's gonna come out after root is a method to get rid of bing!
So... not that worried, but samsung/verizon lost lots of sales by choosing bing as the only search engine for fascinate.
I hope the money from microsoft is worth the lost sales.
All of the reviews and hands-on posts I have seen and read basically say the same thing. Bing cannot be removed. Everything is mapped back to Bing no matter what you do without rooting. On top of that Google Maps and Nav seem to crash when trying to launch. Just about all of the Google services have been mamed, broken, hidden or disabled. Root can't come soon enough to this phone, and hopefully root can fix it.
Does anyone find it ironic that nearly all HTC phones that are launching as part of the W7 campaign are essentially N1's loaded with w7.
All first gen snapdragons, they all share the N1 styling/materials.
Hopefully we can dual boot w7 due to the similarities. =D
I don't think they are but, I need to see a side by side. I thought most of the new w7 phones had better specs then the n1. But, of we have the best community of any phone out. That is why Google needs to make another dev phone it don't need to be called nexus two......
Check out engadget's front page, mozart, shobert, surround, trophy
Not terribly impressed with the W7 OS. From a UI standpoint, I could see the home screen getting very cluttered and I'm not sure if they have any sort of folder management system either to alleviate that. The multitouch zoom and kinetic scrolling in IE looked fluid but not having text reflow hurts. The Bing app was nice, as was the XBOX Live integration which is cool if you're into that but everything else was very meh. Didn't look awful like previous versions of WinMo but nothing that blew me away either. Still well behind Android and iOS even.
WP7 seems very solid in terms of how it is being handled. I love this quote:

Google really needs to grow a pair and take control of Android. A carrier holding out an OS update just so they can force up to purchase a new phone might be the norm but that doesn't mean its right or should be tolerated by Google

That's weird I wonder why I even got heated in my post above
I mean hell... thats the whole reason why I got the Nexus One! to not have to deal with carrier games anymore
You meant to say that they cant control android but wield a mighty big stick with gapps didnt you? I tried cm without gapps, pretty much cuts the nuts right off the little android leaving it ineffectual.
in-ef-fec-tu-al adjective 1 Weak. 2 Without satisfactory or decisive effect. 3 Powerless, impotent. 4 Insufficent to produce the desired result.
MS does something right for once in the smartphone arena. Can't we just give credit when it's due?
Text reflow? As far as I know even in CM I have to double tap the browser page to get it to reflow.
The UI looks sweet as hell and not having to worry about carrier tied updates?
Priceless.
I really didn't like the W7 UI, no place for wallpapers and that it's a very negative thing for me
It had a very nice style IMO. I doubt I'll move from my N1, but it's definitely gonna be an interesting game here on out.

So do you think you can just build AOSP and dump the result on any phone? No, it has to be tailored per-phone.. What changes there are between phones I wouldn't know, not a rom cook, but I suspect the complexity/time needed ranges from trivial to impossible (HW limitations).
So therefore, Google is not going to build, test, and deploy a build for every Android phone ever made. The carriers have NO INCENTIVE to support older phones.. They have gotten better about this, but they still have no reason to do it honestly, it's not like other industries where hardware sales lose money (printers, game systems, many others) and therefore they need to stretch the users experience with the hardware to the max. Phone sales net the carriers extended contracts and money.

Actually they can, very easily:
Carrier/Manufacturer: Hey Google, we're going to release a phone with Android 1.5, replace your search with Bing, add some crap-ware, and remove a bunch of useful Android features!
Google: Oh really? Too bad your Android phone won't have Gmail, Google Maps, Google Talk, YouTube, Google Syncing, OR the Android Market!
Carrier/Manufacturer: Hmm...

Verizon doesn't seem to care. This does work though it's how android took off. However, not having gapps is more detremental to Google than carriers. At this point in the game android can survive without native Google applications.

So basically you're justifying carriers holding off hardware updates so that people can dump their 6 month old phone for a new one just to get from 2.1 to 2.2?
That's BS and you know it.
Android gets a new version every other month, and if they do this and leave older users in the dark with carriers blocking updates, Android is NEVER going to be real competition to iOS.
Hardware is just another BS excuse. 2.2 runs fine on even the HTC Dream.

Android sold more units in Q2 2010 than iOS, so surely its already real competition?
Is just me or is one of the biggest faults with android the various phone form factors that make it impossible to standardize any accessories? Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to be locked into a single phone running android but it seems the phone manufacturers could maybe design their phones so they have common ports for accessories. I guess we are lucky we at least got a desktop and car dock. Even cars are coming with iphone, ipad docks, you'll never see an android dock.

Google, from a business perspective, doesn't need to control android.
its not its number one priority. yes it could try to twist the carrier's arms, and yes most would fold, but even if only 1 of the big 4 refuses to fold and stops carrying android devices google losses.
google doesnt make money off of android. it makes money off of ads. it just wants you to watch the ads through its portals. you might say they lose that when carriers choose bing over google, but really most of the ads (in apps, around the web) are controlled by google because google owns the online ad market. in fact, they will make money off of the spread of windows 7 phones as well. they entered the mobile business just to make sure neither apple nor microsoft could cut them out of the mobile internet user base and therefore limit the number of users viewing their ads.
btw we are in the nexus one section of xda, which by definition means you cant complain about waiting for updates and carrier and manufacturer crippling. (ha! see what i did there?)
I don't know about the rest of you all but my experience with this phone and Verizon is not great. I expected the phone to be up to par with various other phones but its not. Its laughable how it hasn't even got the 2.2 update yet when some phones are already moving to 2.3 updates. Samsung is quite a let down! I will be buying the HTC Thunderbolt when it comes out (hopefully thats soon). It looks like it will be a lot like the EVO on Sprint which I love. Goodbye Samsung!
Well if your only complaint is you're .1 behind, I'd say your case is weak at best. Enjoy your Thunderbolt.

I have to agree that, out of the box, this phone is a huge disappointment. The screen is nice, but everything done to the software is atrocious. Although I like to play with ROMs and root my phone and all that, no one should HAVE to do that to have a good experience with an Android phone. The real fragmentation happening with Android is the fact that Google, through the AOSP, is letting manufacturers take a product that has become thoroughly refined and muck it up. If I was an average (non-techy) user, and my first experience of Android was the Fascinate, I would be TREMENDOUSLY let down. It is much different for computers where the crap we don't want may just take an extra hour or two to go through add/remove programs in Windows. The savings you will get on a PC easily justify this slight time waste. This is not the case with phones. Most people are a slave to the experience the manufacturer gives them, and often times this experience will shape your opinion of an overall product. Having owned a Nexus One, and having rooted/ROMed my original G1, I am fully aware of the experience Android is capable of. Sadly many people don't get to experience this and often get a watered down, murky presentation of what Android was/is meant to be.
I have owned many phones, HTC and others. I have never had such a great experience. I think this phone is terrific. The things I can do with this phone are outstanding. I like the look, the feel but especially what it can do. The camera is good, can take a picture of handwritten notes, almost anything that you want to recall later. The apps, camcard, camscanner, earth, smart tools, documents to go - it goes on and on. I really can't, at this point, image a better phone. It's the BEST.
Just to keep it short and sweet:
I love my Fascinate. I came from a Samsung Omnia II so the Windows Mobile > Android jump obviously has been like night and day.
I am however, on my second Fascinate (details here) simply because I had signal issues with my first one. Not Verizon's fault, not Samsung's fault, just a lemon. It happens. This new one has been great with battery life (24+ hours before needing a charge), I've always loved Samsung's camera software, and I've customized the hell out of the phone without even bothering to root it as I just haven't had a need to yet. And this is coming from someone who used to flash ROMs practically monthly with his Omnia II.
I don't live in a metro area so 4G will not get to my locale until 2013ish most likely. And for me, 3G speeds work perfectly fine for what *I* want to do on a phone on a daily basis and if I need WiFi speeds, it's there. I could've waited for a 4G phone or an iPhone, but personally, right now, this is the phone for me. Fast (and will get faster with 2.2), beautiful display, thin, customizable...
My coworkers have an LG Ally, an HTC Incredible, and a Motorola Droid X - I like my phone better and so do most of them
The beautiful thing about Android is that with each vendor's phones there are pros and cons. For me, this phone fits perfectly.
But, just to keep things in perspective, there are of course annoyances:
#1) Bing. My bypass is I have a Voice Search shortcut on my home screen to do voice searches (that go straight to Google) and I have my browser's homepage set to google.com. I never see Bing, but it's still an annoyance.
#2) Delay after delay of 2.2. This is just some sort of commercial/bureaucratic bs, but it still sucks and I'll be happier than I am now when we get it.
I thought this was an interesting article, albeit short. I wish they went deeper into the story. http://www.bgr.com/2011/01/31/is-this-why-apple-and-google-hate-each-other/
I was wondering, without Google, Apple's iPhone would be missing some key features, like Gmail and Google Maps. What keeps Google tied to Apple? Now that Android has taken off, what would happen if Google pulled the relationship with Apple and stopped supporting the iPhone? Meaning, if you want Gmail, you have to use an Android phone. Would there be incredible backlash against Google, or would Gmail-users ditch their iPhone? Can Google survive on its own?
I think this would be an interesting discussion.

I think the issue is that Google wants to make itself the open-source alternative. This has its benefits; it means wider acceptance and ease of developing for its platform but it also means that it cannot simply close off certain apps and prevent them from being utilized on other platforms. Sure, El Goog could stop officially supporting their products on Apple platforms but that would lead to more backlash than benefit. I, myself, love Google. I use Google products (Chrome, Android, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Maps, Google Navigation, Google Docs, etc.) for pretty much everything. However, I also own two Macbooks because Windows based computers just haven't gotten to the point where I would want to use one again. If Google stopped supporting all Apple platforms, I would have to make the choice between free alternatives to things I can do access otherwise or the two computers I spent a combined three grand on.
In fact, I can honestly say that in spite of my love for Android, if today they announced that Apple products and platforms would no longer receive Google Support, I would go to BB and return both mine and my wife's Nexus S, switch us to Verizon and get iPhones (when they come out).
Essentially, to sum up, my belief is that given the way Google has positioned themselves in the market they cannot simply cast aside a large portion of users in that way, it would be corporate suicide.
Don't think either could alienate each other to that extent.
Besides, there's always Google Mobile - were Gmail to be removed from Apple's Mail app for some reason, it's still accessible via mail.google.com in Safari. But realistically how would (prospective) Apple customers react to that?
Google is better.
i just dont think google would want to lose those valuable iphone customers using their gmail service. even though it competes, having those eyes looking at ads is better than not having those eyes looking at ads.

Good answers, guys. Now that I think about it, it was a pretty silly question. It'd be unwise for Google to cut ties. What an interesting relationship they have with Apple, though. They need each other, but are apparently such fierce rivals.
Don't forget. Google is a search company.
you can also take a look at it this way. Google gets a paycheque from Apple for using their services just like microsoft gets one from google and other way around.
There are so many patents and crossed cheques between the companies that it would not make sense to stop doing it now. Next thing you know Microsoft wont let google use their patened mail exchange server and 1/2 the Android users that dont use Gmail all of a sudden hate android. Some **** like that.
They'll keep doing it as long as there is a costumer and someone is makeing money.
I would like to see them apart. I would never throw my money away by buying an apple product.

That's a rather closed-minded outlook. Have you ever *owned* an apple product? I've never had anything but amazing experiences with their support and I've only ever had to use their support three times in the 5 years I've owned macbooks. Also, recently they replaced the entire keyboard and bezel on my 5 year old macbook simply because it had a cosmetic defect. I brought it in and told them that the keyboard stopped working because I spilled drinks on it and used it heavily for five years and because of the cosmetic defect they replaced it. Free. While I waited. Meanwhile, my wife's Compaq laptop had two major recalls in two years both due to massive motherboard failure and because I was a week late calling about the second I missed the window and they wanted to charge $400 to fix it. Throwing money away on Apply products? More like investing in a product that will be supported long after it is technologically obsolete.
EDIT: I understand I'm going to get called a iFanboy for that but its the truth. They have never done any wrong by me. When it comes to phones, I much prefer Android but I will continue buying Apple computers until they do wrong by me. I'm on my second MacBook (this one Pro) and I only upgraded because I wanted a better screen and the old one was, well, old. Name one other manufacturer that would offer free technical servicing to a machine far out of warranty.

As noted, you can't purchase within the Kindle app, but this is the power that Apple has over what goes on their phones. The fine line Google must also tread
different business models
I think the reason that they are still so tied together is that they use different business models.
Apple sells hardware; computers, iPhones, or iPads, Apple's goal is to sell hardware.
Google sells advertising, they make their money off of people using their services. The majority of Google's income still comes from selling advertising.
Apple uses Google's services because they are popular and they are the best available. Gmail is the number 2 email service, and maps is superior to any of the other search/ map products available to Apple. What is Apple going to replace Google Maps with if they removed it from iOS, Bing Maps? I just don't see that happening since Google Maps is a superior product (although Microsoft has been improving Bing recently).
Google realizes that the future of computing is increasingly mobile, and they do not want the control of access to that controlled solely by any one company. This is where Android comes into Google's business model. Google's main interest in Android is the same as their other services, Google wants people using the web so they can sell advertising.
Apple is clearly pissed that Android is cutting into Apple's sales of the iPhone and iPad. Google basically doesn't care how you access their services, so long as you are using them.
The two companies have different goals, because of this it is more likely that Apple would replace Google's services on iOS that Google would pull them. I think the closest that Google would get is what we have now with some features restricted for Android such as turn by turn navigation and the Gmail app on Android.
If this even Nexus S related? Why is this in the Nexus S section?
I like my iMac, enjoy my Windows XP netbook, iPod Touch, Android Droid Pro and Android Nexus S.. just sayin' lol.
Im talking about the hate between different platforms Os etc just get what you like and thats it! I own galaxy note and an iphone 4s and i think that both phones cover up for each other one's pros and cons. No matter is it about the phone itself or apps or something else! But then again it is just my opinion

So which Note cons do the iPhone cover? Can't think of any myself.

Well for instance app availability before android market, maybe not that noticable, but still. And having two different OS's.good enough for me

I posted this in another thread but its perfectly relevant here as well:
I've noticed an interesting phenomenon occuring on both the Android and Apple side:
1. Someone points out that x feature is missing from one platform, in terms of hardware or software
2. The people on the bandwagon ***** that person out, telling them to switch platforms or just shut up. Often they will say "We don't need X feature, which is why we don't have it." or "Go do this lengthy process to get X feature kinda sorta implemented if you want X feature".
3. Rinse and repeat.
Now this is very general and doesn't always happen but it's something we need to be aware of. As someone studying business and software, it's been beat into my head that there is only one true way to succeed when this situation happens - engineer it into the product and make it BETTER than the competitor.
So, instead of trolling or *****ing people out, I believe the correct procedure is to identify what features and benefits the competitor has and start working on engineering them into our platform in such a way that it is both better than the competitor's and it fits well with our current platform. We can always do better, and taking ideas from a competitor in this way is not in any way stealing - as long as you do not directly copy and change it significantly it's okay (see the paraphrasing versus plagiarizing arguement in education for a good example). And I'm not just talking about Apple here, I'm talking about any competitor.
If we put our energy towards making the platforms and apps better, rather than arguing or otherwise getting getting political/fanboyish, then everyone wins. People on our platform get that new feature, and the other platform has to step up their game so the people on the other platform either get the same feature or some other new feature. This is the basis of constructive competition that drives our economy.

mainly because whatever the person has then its the best and everything else is rubbish, its the mentality of people
android users rubbish every other os especially ios and vice versa
Liquid Nitrogen, very well said. Agree 100 %.
can't really be ignored that FANBOYISM is rampant in some if not most forums that talk about this and that...

Compared to many forums, this forum is surprisingly civil.
Haters will always be hating though.

Totally agree with u as i use all 3 platforms-Android, iOS n Symbian-and find each one suited for specific purposes.
But one particular platform will appear as the best for one particular user based on user preferences. For me,its Android. But that doesnt conclude that its better than iOS in each n every aspect.
I find it rather silly when people fight ferociously trying to establish that one particular platform is the best...
Exactly I use 3 OSes too. And there are pros and cons. Symbian is good at how each app can be assigned different network, that means email can be given cellular net and data hungry apps can be given wifi. So at a given time, both connection can be active which neither iOS nor Android can do.
One interesting feature of iOS allows syncing of different Exchange Contacts folder which I still couldn't do with Android. iOS is easyphone (vs geekphone) and I always recommend this to my gf, mom, aunt etc.
Android is like - if you can dream a feature then that is already there.
I don't particularly hate the iphone, I owned 2. It's a personal preference thing for me. For me it's the openness and personalization. I do hate apple as a company. They are a bunch of cry babies and if they can't beat someone then they sue them. They have more lawsuits going than anyone right now. Them aholes are even suing Kodak who is freaking bankrupt! They buy patents for the sole purpose of filing a lawsuit.
They are sore losers and would rather sue and buy a patent than come up with their own ideas
From the big ole Note
So I get that all platforms are useful. But WHAT is the deal with the lame press reviews on the NOTE. These kind of fanboy issues grow because of the uneven press given by supposedly people who care about and discuss innovation. Yet they discount the Note and are fine with constantly using a made up marketing term like Retina Display ( I am the Dir of a Cog Sci university program and I know that has nothing to do with the science) even though it means nothing. Samsung truly innovated with the Note, but gets no credit. Google seems to try hard to stick with their "do not evil" mantra (left CHina, backs alt energy, supports open and Mozilla, ...) while Apple now trumps 1980s MS for evilness, yet again they get treated the same there. If everything was more fair, you would see less fanboyism, although there would always be some, it is in our genes.

I own both of these as well.
Outlook syncing with iOS makes android look sick, it is sick, because Google want you to give THEM all your personal data, this "open" OS is not as open as some would have you believe, especially when it comes to choosing what to connect to for PIM.
All the 3rd party software for Android syncing [plus Kies and HTC sync] is utter rubbish, including very expensive software like Companionlink/deja.
Android has some pretty substantial high's, especially the Note with it's stylus and large screen, but it sucks balls as much as any other android device I've had for basic PIM without Google
Everything has pro's and con's, even the Note
The real problem with Iphone/Apple products is the cost is more, the features are not any better, both Samsung and Apple are about the same in quality but the App costs are WAY higher on a Apple App store compared to Android store. That and the lack of control (being locked out of something I own) of the phone.
The bottom line I advise ppl I know....... If you want an out of the box phone that you will never change never customize and are willing to buy off the shelf in the box apps....... and that...... will satisfy your every need for the phone........get an I phone......
..... BUT....... if you want to pay less and want to customize and have real control over the item YOU bought.............. get an Android.
I think paying retail plus•90% is unnecessary but then....... like my father used to say........ Never underestimate the power of stupidity!!!....... and those that think paying more for less is ok then stay with Apple......... But I do have to say Apple is fantastic at marketing........ they really Are !!!
My "problem" with iPhone fans is their arguments.
Android is so hard to use, Android is so sluggish, there are more apps in AppStore (but not a single example of ONE app that is missing from Play - i.e not existing on the Android platform) or bragging about the fantastic quality of the iPhone.
Unfortunately, I have not heard any good arguments for the iPhone since 2007. Just those "arguments" that is like a parody.
I agree. I Google app #s the other week and android just passed half a million apps in Google market. Where iphone is barely ahead with just over 600k so the whole app argument is lame and not true!

SNES vs Genesis, anyone?
There's nothing wrong with most current mobile devices that bigger batteries or a decent bluetooth keyboard case wouldn't fix. The rest is time better spent on tuning our chosen products to whatever esoteric tastes suit us.

i find it kind of funny that everyone will go back and forth about the i phone and the android but the windows phones don't even come up in this i guess wether u like i phone or android u have one thing in commin nobody really wants a windows phone
I have a Note and an iPhone 4S. They are both excellent but different.
Buy an iPhone to have iTunes, iCloud and have everything just sync, iTunes as a central point to manage your media, the 4S has a better camera and audio quality, in a manageable screen size.
Buy a Note to have a different hardware form factor. A screen that makes everything sexy. Lots of customisable options. A unique device and well put together.
The classic take. The Apps and Games. On Apps the field between android and iOS is closer. Sometimes it goes to Apple, other times to Android. Think of Apps with widgets and there own shop store. Games goes to Apple. The Note needs more developers to write better made games for the Note.
