[Q] Froyo SBF, AT&T Update? - Bravo General

Hello all,
My wife's Bravo just arrived today, and I'd like to get it up to Froyo this evening, and I have a couple of questions about the various methods of getting it updated.
First, I've seen there's the SBF method, the update.zip and recovery method, and the AT&T OTA update. I'm aware that the AT&T update will (obviously) have all the AT&T bloat, including Motoblur. Is the SBF update "clean"? Generic 2.2.1 Android? I'd prefer to load without all the AT&T crap, and without Motoblur, but if all three methods cripple the phone with that garbage, I figure I may as well do the easy AT&T update route.
Any guidance?
Thanks!

The SBF will have all AT&T bloat etc. AT&T OTA will probably be easiest, and tmk, the same as an SBF flash.

Thanks for the info -- that settles it for me.

Np, SBF is really useful when something goes wrong

my bravoX rom is coming out probably tonight and it has all the att bloat removed.
you can read about it on my thread...

How do I Manually Upgrade to FroYo ?

I'm completely new to a Droid X. I don't have Verizon, I just use WiFi, so no OTA.
I'm currently on Version.1.13.516.MB810.Verizon.en.US
How would I go about manually upgrading to Froyo? I understand rooting and whatnot. Where can I get a zip?

How do I install an SBF with RSD Lite? Does it require root? Any tutorials you can recommend? Bricked my G1 before when looking for tutorials myself lmao.
If you don't want to use RSD, you may want to try this route:

This puts you on the leaked Froyo files (The last 2.3.15 leak is the same as the OTA Froyo update, just a slightly different boot loader and radio)
Many of us stayed on the Leaked version (I did) because the 2.2 SBF wasn't available until just a couple of days ago.
The issue with that method for me won't work is because I'm not on .604 I'm on .516

I think the link for .604 is there as well.
Spend a little time digging through the older posts int he dev section. Everything you need is in there.
Alright I figured it all out thanks ! On Froyo now

Droid 2 OTA coming tonight

OTA coming tonight, for real this time

Not if you are running Fission. Lol

It does appear that rooted users need to beware.
I have removed all the bloat except for the 3G AP app, and I can not install the OTA.mainly because i am lazy I am going to SBF and then OTA and re-root.
Tell us if you can root after OTAing
Dumb question from me...
I just recently installed the 2.3.15 leak from Motorola (posted in the forums here). Will it still prompt me to update or do I have to sbf back to stock?
I'm rooted and deodexed, but otherwise stock. Have been checking for updates today and not received the update yet... I should at least see the update, yeS?
I got the update.

Just following up here as well, do NOT attempt to SBF your device using the current available droid 2 sbf if you get the update. Angdroid/Motoboy was testing it out on his development D2 and it's now a paper weight.
My advice, exercise extreme caution with this OTA, from what I hear you will be stuck with stock D2 MotoBlur for hte time being if you update.

Thanks for the tip!
I still haven't seen the update and am considering doing a factory reset. Has anyone gotten any information about the performance increase / battery life in the update, is it worthwhile to seek it out?
Is this update for the R2D2 version also?
I have been hitting system update now for a few days. Just a few times a day. I still have not gotten the update. Is there any way to make it go? I figured it would have gotten to me by now.

Same here ...
at least im not the only one not getting it. Would doing a factory reset possibly kick it to start?

Factory reset didn't do it for me. If you really want it, just flash the 2.3.2 SBF
This thread at droidforums has a link to an update file. Probably shorter/easier than applying a new .sbf, but same result.
People are also saying that the 1-2-3 root method will give root back after applying the update.
That said I have not applied either and have still not received the update automatically.
Verizon doesn't push the update to everyone at the same time, different markets will get the update at different times. They do this to not overload the servers
How would I tell if i got the update?
I gave up waiting and applied the update from droidforums using the stock bootloader. Worked like a charm on my stock droid 2. Haven't yet re-rooted since I don't really see a need for root at the moment.
I was able to pull down the update today. It just finished, so no comments or thoughts on it yet.
edit:
I restored the bloatware and unrooted before applying the update. No issues upgrading. I have not tried to apply root again (yet).

[Q] Updating to .340 OTA?

I hate to do this because it might be somewhere else but I have 2.3.15 on my X and I want to get back to stock so that I can get the OTA .340 to start clean. The reason I'm posting on here is on all of the guides I've read about sbfing I am a little confused and see things about bootloader 10.03 and .04 and I have .01 and don't wanna brick obviously so I was wondering if someone could tell me what steps I need to take to get to stock so I can OTA?
This...

I'm in the same boat, but the wiki doesn't give this n00b quite enough detail. I want to learn, but there's so much information out there, the pace of development is so fast, and there are so many 50-page threads full of "dude this is awesome!" posts, it's hard for me to make any sense of it.
I'm on 2.3.150, rooted with Z4 -- just got the phone two weeks ago. I like where my phone is, for the most part, but I'd like to experiment with some custom ROMs, and they appear mostly to be built on 320/340. I've got Titanium Backup installed, with much of the bloat frozen.
I deleted the 340 OTA file with Root Explorer a couple of times, because I'd seen a couple of people post on here that they quit getting the Verizon nags about installing the update.
Not only has that not worked (I'm still getting nagged), but the phone keeps downloading the update again. So, I'm just going to go ahead and jump to 340 with the rest of the DX world. But I need to know how to get from where I am now through the update and back to a rooted phone.
Do I need to go all the way back to stock first? Can I just unfreeze all the bloat, un-root, and let the install proceed? Once I've installed the update, then, how do I get back to where I am now?
There are so many threads with so much differing information, I don't have any idea where to start or what to expect. I don't want a $300 paperweight.
Help me, Obi Wan, you're my only hope!
As long as bloat is not removed, you can just un-freeze it and update. You re-root in thi same way you did on 2.3.15

[Q] Factory Replacement DX

Hey all,
my trusty froyo dx finally died on me, and today I received what looks to be a newer model dx. My questions are..
Are there any ways to tell what "gen" this new dx is? (subtle changes etc)
this device already came preloaded by Verizon with system 4.5.596, will i have any issues when I plan to root using z4?
Thanks a bunch
Yes, it won't work. If you want root, you have to SBF to froyo.

what makes it look like a "newer model".
It shouldn't be different? for the most part the droid X2 looks exactly like the droid X. so I don't think they would make changes to a phone that already has a successor
z4root will not work, you need to find a FULL sbf .340 stock and use RSDlite 4.8 and restore it to froyo. from there you can flash p3droid's rooted gb rom, which is essentially the same as the OTA

[Q] Need some help figuring out if i should update a rooted 1.8.3

Hey guys,
i have been reading the dev forums quite a bit but ever since this new 4.5.91 update came out, i still am unsure if i can update safely without problems
i have a 4.1.83 and android 2.2.2 phone (U.S. MB860) and I had rooted it using the GLADROOT method. i want to update to the new 4.5.91 and android 2.3.4
but it seems there are a lot of issues with hardbricking and softbricking the devices, and i may not have the time to troubleshoot such a scenario. can anyone direct me in the right direction as to if i can update safely and then re-root the phone?
Thanks in advance.
bumppp
any help would really be appreciated
thanks.

I have the same phone and the exact scenario you do. When I was on 2.2 I had rooted with gladroot.
I was able to update to 2.3.4 via OTA update. You should be able to update without any problem.
However, know that once you go to 2.3.4 YOU MAY NEVER FLASH AN OLD BUILD IN ATTEMPT TO DOWNGRADE.
Example.. If you update to 2.3.4 and decide to a sbf 4.1.83 build you now have a $600 paper weight.
here is the method I used to re-root my phone after the update.

Sorry it took so long for you to get a response. Good luck!
