I think this needs a separate topic to get everyone's attention.
So after reading up this morning on various forums, there are two ways people are bricking their phone:
Being impatient and doing a battery pull. The update takes up to 30 mins. It will sit on the 4G logo screen for a while. Don't touch it!
Running the update again. There is a bug where it notifies you the same update is available. Only run the update once!!! A second time WILL brick your phone!

I like how you put that, good idea.
I just want to say that I'm completely stock, and the update didn't take nearly a half hour. Download plus install took maybe 15 minutes.
Yeah, same here but I read that some people are taking 30 mins. I just put it there to be safe.
I assume the reason it takes so long is because it is updating directly OTA?
If so, why doesn't the phone download the entire update, confirm the files and then update locally? Doing it this way should be MUCH faster and avoid this issue.

no one in their right mind would do a real OTA update, there are way too many variables to be transfering system files and updating at the same time. They download the update, confirm file integrity, then update from the file on the SD card.

Thats what I would have expected. So why does it take 15 minutes!! I have never flashed a rom that took longer than 3-4 minutes.
Edit: Don't forget also that no developer in their right mind would release an update that would brick the phone....and yet reports are that it is pretty easy to do!

You download it, then you can choose to install now or install later.

idk, who says that HTC/Sprint are master coders and there are zero bugs in everything, there could be a bug in it that makes it sit in a few places.
there is a bug with this update that causes it to show up twice and applying it the second time bricks the phone.

Update only showed up once for me. No issues.
Yep worked fine for me. Also, easytether works fine with this update.
The reason the update is taking so long is because it's over 21mb. There's a new radio, updated qik, updated quickoffice, and tons more. That's also why the phone has to reboot 3 times also.
thanks for the information.

Really that's weird.. You are not having any issues? Everyone I've talked to it is taking around 15min and 2-3 reboots. I guess its your lucky day!

Unless the first two were silent... the process took about 15 minutes from start to finish, and I only had the bootup sound once, then it was done. No issues.
It is bricked. How to de-brick it?
As many others, I have inadvertently bricked the phone by installing the update twice.
Does anyone has a slightest idea how to debrick it? Waiting for a replacement might be quite lengthy ...
bump...
this is important to get back to the top with all the non-substantiated posts about "update = brick"...
this has facts - read them and follow accordingly... update = POSSIBLE brick

lol! an hour too late.
dammit.. my phone is bricked!
just when I start to like this phone....
On the phone with Sprint. The tech said they are getting a lot of calls about bricked evo.
Good job HTC! Time to sack those programmers.
So yea... my DVP locks up every once in a while, crashes, etc. Is this normal? I'm getting kind of annoyed and ready to do an RMA, but I can't be without a phone (obviously).
Just curious if I'm the only one or not.
Depends on what you mean by once in a while. Short answer is a rather high percentage of 16GB DVPs have major stability/lockup issues (lots of threads here about it), most 8GB are fine. Supposedly Dell will release a firmware update in the next couple weeks to adress it.
Yea, I have a 16GB so I guess that may be my issue.
Any location for the announcements from Dell on the issue? I'd love to see that update sooner than later.

Best thing to do is watch the boards here and follow Dell on Twitter. Most DVP news on Twitter comes from @LionelAtDell (http://twitter.com/lionelatdell) and on the #dellvenuepro hashtag (http://twitter.com/#search?q=#dellvenuepro)
Mine's 8gb and it locked up quite often, up to couple times a day. I started to think about returning..
Since NoDo my DVP has started to lockup randomly too. Before it was just with wifi, but now it seems rather arbitrary. Hopefully the firmware update will bring this one down too.
Mine was locking up primarily while in marketplace on wifi, then while charging. Now it's locking up while Zune is playing. Funny how it started locking up more after my 30 day refund warranty was up. I'd love to get my money back, but Dell says I can't. Now I'm waiting to see what my attorney general has to say about it.
It's ironic that when I viewed this link through my phone, it locked up my phone.
*sigh*

You are not the only one suffering with the random lockups. It is getting quite irritating with or without the no-do update. I am still randomly getting the lockup while charging but "especially" when using Internet Explorer. From my experience, using the browser seems to be much worse with the no-do update on my phone. I cannot tell you how many times the frozen/lockup situation occurred to me within a 5 minute span. Loading a site, freeze. Opening a tab, freeze. scrolling through a site, freeze. The phone basically works whenever it wants to work. I'm sorry but this is absurd and I hope the new update will solve these issues. If not, many people including myself will be extremely unhappy.
http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-atrix-4g-update-imminent-and-its-coming-soon-too#comments according to this we can expect the ota update today!!
... kinda find that hard to believe.
Well, they did promise the HSUPA update by the end of the month
That look like a memo from an at&t internal system. Id know seeing that I work there...

I literally just updated 5 minutes ago to android 2.2.2 and the new radio for HSUPA. I did this not from my phone but from Motorolas website while my phone was connected via USB

I am not rooted, 100% stock with few apps.
I did not get the update from the phone I had to get it from here: http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Android_Products/Software_Update_Landing_Page
I plugged my phone into my computer and downloaded their software and it did its thing. It took a while though, 15-30 minutes or so I was not keeping track.

That is extremely long for a small update.. o.o
Well I had to download some stuff, and it downloaded other stuff and restarted a few times and whatever. I agree it took a while and it will probably be faster for those who get it on their phones but I was not getting it on my phone so I did the next best thing

It's been about 5 minutes and it's still checking for an update? o.o
If your going the computer route let it do its thing. Once you tell it dont go, even if it doesnt move anywhere, let it go. It was on "checking for update" FOREVER! and then it was at 0% forever and then it jumped around and my computer kept saying new flash this and drivers that were installed and suddenly the phone restarted and it was done.
So let it do its thing it takes a long time.

Oh.. my gawwdd.. These speeds are rather sexy.. 5.5mbps download, and 1.2 mb upload. and that was from KS and im in CALI. Gonna turn gps on and get a proper ping from nearby
UPDATE: Not much better, so it may have a fast connection altogether. 6052 kbps download, and 1253 upload. now thats sexy.
I got an OTA update and Im not a beta tester or anything.
I did manual check for updates.
It won't even say there isn't one. Just checking...... forever lol
Oh well sleep time try again tomorrow.

It's odd, with all these people getting it - I am not getting it also. The software also tells me there is no available updates... Maybe they are just releasing it slowly over random IMEI's.. or maybe it picks up my location (Australia) ... Damn you, why do I have to wait for something that exists... it's torture
(Yeah, already applied the radio and getting 5-6mbit down, 1-1.5mbit up)
Can I update if im rooted and sideloaded enable and hdmi mod enable? Or will my phone brick?

Tried this and it worked! Thanks a ton man!
Motorola's software landing is extremely slow. When installing 4.1.57 through this yesterday prior to installing the beta update 4.1.83, I found it takes a loooooonnggg time even to search for updates, let alone install them. Also, I found it would not work (connect to my phone) unless I had USB debugging enabled, and mass storage selected. I also had to plug my phone in after I had started the update software on my PC. I did this all 3 times yesterday due to attempts to install 4.1.83 under different conditions, and it took longer to update to 4.1.57 than it did the flash back to 4.1.26.
Still running official stock + root only and had a random reboot. A couple of minutes later I got a text and when to open and it rebooted again.
First one since I updated basically as soon as the ota file was posted.
Even stock isnt perfect. Even the "magical" iPhone crashes.
It's the nature of software to crash when it starts getting very complex. Not to excuse it, as some sort of report will eventually come Google's way, but it's not a big surprise.
did take the update the normal way or did uflash by custom recovery?

To be honest,
Never had an Iphone.
I have a first gen Ipad I bought the first month it came out. Also have and ipod touch.
the thing NEVER EVEN ONCE crashed on me. EVER. I use it 2 hours daily, for over 1.5 years.
I'm just sayin.

odd my iphone crash atleast twice a week or bad lock ups just saying
Yeah I know. Not complaining or anything. Just letting it be known that I had one for the first time. I had not seen any reported yet. But then again I stopped reading the issue / complaints thread due to the fact that it was full of nonsense IMHO
Since you're rooted you can backup and try doing a cache / factory / dalvik wipe and try to restore the official ROM that you can find in the stickies.
Did you wipe when you got your original OTA update?
I got many random reboots, the phone is not rooted. First I got it after the update during a call so I did a factory reset and since then I haven't got reboots during calls but I get like 2 reboots each day while the phone is idle
Random reboots, freeze, etc... Just an unpleasant experience all around. I want to love it but just not this one. Its been this way for 6-7 months and I can't take it anymore.
What should I do? Wife got it for me as Christmas gift from play store. Can I send it back you think for a replacement? TIA

I would suggest that you wait for 4.3.
That OTA apparently solves a LOT of issues - I get reboots and freezes as well, and it LOOKS like these are greatly reduced/eliminated with 4.3!
Update to android 4.3 and don't use chrome browser.
I have had the same problem. The freezing would be the worst. I could have had a full charge and when I would restart it from freezing it would have dropped to under half. I actually flashed back to stock and unrooted and it seemed to have solved the problem.

uhh it does have a one year warranty from Samsung, call and get a RMA. Mine had the battery problem and just sent it in and they sent me another one. Been working great ever since.

why not use chrome browser? does it cause problems?
I received my N10, opened the box, turned it on and it started freezing and rebooting. Can't get past the wifi step.
Tried hard and many times to finally get to enter my gmail account, etc
Updated to 4.3, problem persisted.
So I unlocked it, rooted it and tried flashing older stock versions, same problem.
Tried flashing CM, same; PA, same...
Even CM withouf GAPPS wouldnt work
Tried deactivating location service as suggested elsewhere: same; uninstall chrome: same
No I re-locked it, unrooted it and I am running stock 4.3: same problem
So basically, I have a $500 brick. Completely useless as it freezes every 30 seconds.
Decided not to return the device because although I am Canadian, I live in SE Asia and had a visiting friend bring it to me. I'm past the 15 day return period and the overall experience of sending it back fromhere would be a real pain in the butt... Don't know what to do. Really hoping Kit Kat will solve it but I have doubts.
What do you think?

Had nearly the same problem. Changed multiple roms and haven't seen my n10 doing ok more than 2-3 mins...
Rom from team DIRT(dirty unicorns) and KTManta kernel made my days. Give it a try, dont give up
