This is kind of specifically targeted at anyone who might have some information on the release of the SGS II on Sprint, but I'd also love to hear some speculation from otherwise uninformed individuals.
Reason being that I am seriously considering a Nexus on Sprint when it drops in a week... which has the obvious issue that it's being released a whole year after the first SGS and after the international SGS II. It just seems like a bad decision. The only other alternative is the EVO 3D which I'm really not interested in because of the size, gimmicky 3d, and I really think the performance of the SGS II is going to rock the socks off the Evo 3D (unconfirmed).
So what do you guys think, soon after the evo 3d? If it launches in July or something I'd be very pissed that I picked up the evo 3d in that case...
Nexus S is a keyboardless Epic, SGS II is about the same size as the Evo 3D, the 3D can be turned off, no news about SGS II release date for Sprint.

One might extrapolate from the history of the SGS I line in 2010: IIRC, the original GSM-based reference model was announced by Samsung about this time of year and then released in early summer in Europe. The U.S. variants were announced in late spring or early summer, and the first actual releases (the GSM-based Vibrant on T-Mobile and Captivate on AT&T) occurred in July. Sprint had the first CDMA variant (also adding a Wimax 4G radio and keybord) around Sept. 1. It took about six more months to get the U.S. models mostly debugged and upgraded to a current version of Android (Froyo).
Yea, if I had to guess its gonna be late summer/early fall before there is a SGSII on Sprint.

What he said. The SGS II has a 4.3" screen, same size as the Evo. So it might be the same size, more than likely, itll be a bit bigger.

Yess......I can't wait...I have too been sitting on an upgrade since October and im ready for another phone.. The hero was great but the processor is just not fast enough to keep up with android OS the way it should be run. I'm so happy! I knew sprint had something up there sleeves after the disaster at CES (only dropping the shift)
Well, they better not disappoint!! (again).. Im really looking forward to this.
I am in exactly the same boat as all of you. I've been up for an upgrade since October.
BTW... what are you guys planning to do about your upgrade if this phone is released in June?
Can you chime in on my thread about an upgrade at this link?

I'm pumped and I hope HTC does the EVO 3D, not LG. I did read about Qualcomm's new dual core chip and its supposed to blow away the Tegra 2 in performance and battery life. If LG does do the EVO 3D, then I'm going with Nexus S.

Well, I wonder if Sprint will make a special request of Samsung, like they did with the Epic, and have a Nexus S with a external storage. I would consider one, then. You know as there new dev unit, google and the devs here will be blowing that thing up. I just wish it wasn't a Samsung.

I qualified for upgrade since 11/1/10 and im elegible was wondering if after april 1st I'll keep my elegibility or will start from 0 .
yeah nexus s 4g NEEDS a memory card slot
If its the LG 3D phone then I think its powered by TI's OMAP4 SoC which from what I understand about it, blows pretty much everything out of the water, and uses significantly less power than other options.
I was an Nexus-One owner, loved the phone, but hated T-Mobile, too many dropped calls, and very poor building penetration around Chicago, inside skyscrapers and Basements T-Mobile drops dead. So I made the switch to Sprint and picked up the EVO 4G the first week it came out, and loved it. Never drop a call, and this phone works great in my Basement office, and inside buildings, where my two previous T-Mobile phones never worked ( Blackberry 9700 + Nexus-One )
But I got tired of the brick size feeling of the EVO, and poor battery life, even though I am rooted with custom ROM that helps double my battery life, it is pretty still bad. So I got the itch for the Nexus-S when it first came out, I said F. it, going back to T-Mobile to get this Nexus-S. I just LOVED the Nexus-S, great light featherweight, very compact and fits in pocket easily, the screen tech is beautiful, and 2.3 Gingerbread was great. It was by far my fav phone.
But after two weeks I returned it and came running back to Sprint and my EVO. It was not the fault of the Nexus-S, but the same T-Mobile issues I had 6 months ago with my Nexus-One and Blackberry, dropped calls, and **** connection when inside Basement office or deep inside tall buildings. For some reason Sprint is much better around Chicago if your in tall buildings.
So I think Sprint bringing the Nexus-S will be great, I will for sure get it. And it is good overall for the "Nexus" brand, gives it more exposure, and more accessories and stuff will be made for it. I think it would be cool if the "Nexus" brand just stayed with the non iPhone carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint. They say the Nexus is Google's version of the iPhone. So lets see the Nexus-3.0 come out at Christmas on both T-Mobile and Sprint only, and be the baddest ass phone ever created, and market the **** out of it to destroy the iPhone5

Overall what's the phone to choose?
G2X has price and unlocked loader going for it, the HTC's both look sweet along with the Galaxy S 2, but when and how much?
I also need to consider networks and data plans as T-MO will be on tiered next month when I do this. (or don't do it and wait.... I hate waiting)
EVO 3D and Sensation are the same phone, just that the Sensation is for different carriers (or just Europe?). I think the 3D has a bit more RAM. Galaxy S2 is Samsung, so, there's that. G2X is a pretty great phone though.

As far as I know there are differences between the 2 HTC's though they may not be majors ones, using camera for an example, Sensation has 8MP while EVO 3D has 2 5MP ones. I'm thinking that the EVO probably is a bit more buffed up to handle the 3D, which I see as gimmicky and I probably wouldn't use much but turning it off makes a really fast phone.
There are pro's and cons for any of them and it's very hard to make a decision.
Honestly I think it comes down to the release dates of the Evo and Galaxy S 2. I'm assuming that the Galaxy S2 will hit the US carriers at the same time. And with all the speculation around the Evo release date, I'm not gonna say anything. There are about seven threads on the same thingg. It comes down to your upgrade date and the Evo and galaxy release date and run preference.

EVO 3D for me
I have always been one of those people who buys a new phone ever few months, I just never found that phone that did what I wanted to it to do How I wanted it to do it. Well Ive had my EVO since launch and have no plans on retiring it (even though the phone itself is being retired). It just does everything I need it to, takes good pictures (some require editing but what the hell) Works beautifully as my GPS with the Seidio car dock. Plays games (although I don't play games often) Oh..And it makes calls too.
So what kind of phone features would make you ditch your evo?
A new LTE phone for sprint
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I dont know..maybe a Nexus Prime.
I just came from a Samsung Epic and I gotta say I miss they keyboard, but the Evo's huge screen pretty much makes up for that along with the HTC Sense keyboard which is definitely the best soft keyboard I've used as well as Swype. Also the Super AMOLED screen was really nice too.
So for something I'd trade it would probably be the Samsung Galaxy S II whenever it comes to Sprint lol it has a 1.2 ghz processor, 4.3 inch Super AMOLED+ screen, I believe an 8mp camera if not 5 mp (the Epic took some great pictures so I'd expect these to be great as well), and also it being thinner which is always good for me.
I've got four months until I am eligible for an upgrade so it's too soon to tell. If it's available when the time comes, probably an iPhone. If not, it'll probably be whatever the flavor of the week Android phone is when my upgrade time comes.
The only phone I'm interested in is the Galaxy S II. if it has a keyboard...heads WILL roll.

HTC Dream G1 (2008)
HTC Supersonic Evo 4G (2010)

Something htc in 2012. Like the option of sense and aosp
My upgrade just opened up today. I could rush to the store and get a Evo 3D or Photon 4G...but I'm waiting for the Galaxy S II which I guess is supposed to be called the Within. Like I've been drooling over this phone since it was announced. The Evo 3D did not impress me and I felt like it wasn't much of an upgrade over the OG Evo, and while the Photon is a very nice phone Blur is a deal breaker and I've heard the Pentile display isn't the greatest. The GSII just has everything...best display on the market, super thin, fastest processor on the market. And I like how it has a lot more onboard storage than the Evo does (things that would normally be on the SDcard will load faster, and my onboard storage on my Evo gets really tight with some of these massive Sense roms).
It better be released within August. While it just went through the FCC for certification for Sprint, Europe has had it for months. I am getting tired of waiting. Reason I am not waiting till next year for an LTE phone is because I doubt Sprint will even have an LTE network up and running next year. And if they do, it won't be until around this time or later in the year, and by that time I'll have another upgrade open.
Id get a Iphone...

Which phone will most likely get more development ROMs? I am thinking of upgrading my phone but not sure if I should go to the E3D or the Design or wait for an official EVO 4G II. What do you guys think? Also, The E3D and the Design both have 5mp cameras but the EVO had 8mp. Did they swap the optics for those or is HTC going lower res?

I doubt I'll ever jump ship from Sprint since I still have their SERO plan, $50 for an EVO, can't beat that.
Personally, I am waiting unitl the first LTE phones come out. I was tempted by the EVO 3D this summer and the SG2 this fall but I decided just to hold off. Nothing available now has the same kind of development support as the Evo. So nothing available now is a big enough upgrade hardware wise to justify giving up all the ROM options for a slightly better phone that I will want to replace again in 12 months. Evo will be the first phone in 4 years that I stuck with for the whole contract.

If Verizon offers well priced (with my work discount) unlimited plan over the summer, my wife and I are out of here. I've also hear they'll have a family plan coming out. I'm tired of these BS speeds and coverage.

Yeah...I'm eligible for an upgrade in March, so I'm sure by then the Prime will be out on Sprint, and maybe even something better..
After getting my E4G, I'm definitely an EVO fanboy. I don't think the 3D is all that great, but if I had to choose between it and a design I would go for the 3D. The 3D has a decent community considering its short life span so far. Personally I would just wait at least 6 months until next June when Sprint will hopefully release the next EVO, but unless it supports both WiMax and LTE I would wait until there is an LTE EVO if I was going to stay with Sprint. Otherwise I would probably look at Verizon, they have several good HTC phones and should be getting quad core phones early next year.

Not close - won't fit in a normal pocket, 56% larger based on overall measurements, weighs 36% more, non-replaceable battery. Fail as Aria replacement. May be a great phone, but much too large.
Wouldn't the HTC One V be a more suitable replacement?
With the X, you might as well be carrying around a tablet in your pocket.
I wasn't talking about it being a similar phone, ha. Just a phone that I like enough to replace the aria. Probably should have clarified

On one hand, I think I'm eligible for an upgrade in late May, but as nice as the One X looks I can't justify buying it, given how crippled it is compared to the international version. Half the internal memory (even if all 16GB were free it wouldn't hold my music collection) and a dual-core Snapdragon instead of a quad-core Tegra 3. LTE doesn't matter too much to me, since we don't even have 3G around where I live, and the college I go to has campus-wide WiFi and city-wide WiMAX for the laptops.
The X seems way to big as a phone for me. It definitely has some powa! I've had the aria for almost a year and a half now and I'm so use to having a small phone. I have to wait till next January for next grade. ouch hopefully a quad core sized aria will be made.

I'd prefer the dual-core Snapdragon over the quad-core Tegra 3. More cores does not always mean better.
Ive used the Note for some time so I think Ill be able to adjust xD. I think its probably my next upgrade. Either this or the new SGS3.
I had the oppurtunity to play with the one x at my local att store today they let have a sneak peak at it before it goes on display tomorrow and I have to say for being 4.7 screen it was surprisingly comfortable in my hand and fit quite easily into my pocket almost less noticeable then my aria. Its unlike any HTC phone before very light and thin. The screen was stunning and it was fast and smooth. I'm pretty much sold on this phone unless the may 3rd announcement in London about the details of the new sg3 is truly note worthy I'll be picking the one x up. As far as the quad vs the dual debate goes I've following a thread where an xda member has quad and just received the rogers one x which will be the same as the att version and in just about every bench mark he has done the duel core out performed the quad. He also felt that the duel just seems better in real world use.

Saw an article today saying there was a promotion at AT&T to get it for $149. I definitely agree that the dual-core is better for "real world" use over the Tegra 3.
Unfortunately for AT&T and HTC, I am going to be switching to Verizon when the SGS3 comes out, unless it is just a complete bust, which I really don't see happening. Verizon has a far more widespread LTE network and much better customer service. I think it's funny how AT&T advertises that their LTE network is faster, but fails to mention that there are far fewer LTE users on their network than Verizon. If AT&T had the LTE traffic that Verizon does, there is no way they would have faster speeds. *steps down from soap box*
Edit: Throwing this out there...I bet the SGS3 gets root and full CM9 support in less time from its release date than the One X. Any takers?
