of course it is possible, I'm using Titanium backup, it will also save your accounts and all Sense stuff. BUT be careful when coming from sense 2.0 to 2.1 when you restore your HTC Sense backups they won't work and will force close all the time. (Well it was for me....)
Then you have to root to use titanium backup?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You must have root to use much of TB's functionality.
It is possible to backup your homescreens without the use of an external program (I do this all the tme).
1. Press win key + r
2. Type notepad
3.Write down all the applications on your homescreen, something like this:
Hs1:
Weather widget
Hs2:
Clock

Surely Windows and Notepad are both external programs?

Use a pen and some paper to write it down

You can also do it with titanium backup, but if you restore across Rom's you can face issues (bootloop etc). The safest method is to write down everything.

May I know which listing in TB that saves the Homescreen icons? I have been using TB and manually putting back the icons position. It would be great and time saving if i can get this back in just a click of a button
Thanks in advance
It is called [desktop].
You tap it and select backup.
When you want to restore, you tap it again and select restore.

Hey guys sometimes when leaving some apps ie. messages, or phonebook the white screen with htc will flash up and then a loading sign for a second or two its quite annoying does anyone else have this problem?
Yep, I get that from time to time too... it's as though Sense crashes and restarts automatically...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Anyone else having this issue?
Same on htc z and sometimes on good ol' hero. The "homescreen" crashes id say.
-- sent from htc z using xda app
Yes very occasionally
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I guess this is better than the entire device locking up, necessitating a battery pull... which I've so far not had to do in the month I've had the phone. Could argue it's good coding by htc. And hopefully future updates will minimise this issue further...?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
yeah its just the sense launcher crashing used to happen rarely on my legend to, but its easy fixed you just change to another launcher
since a couple days, same happens to me...but i dont know why. its not with a special app when i close it, its just randomly when i go back to the homescreen, but i will definately change to netfront life screen, as soon it becomes more customizable...i like the idea
not had this at all, although i did have 2 complete restarts a week ago.
i have a off-topic question. i am playing with adw.launcher and launcher pro, but how can i use the htc widgets...especially the "setting" widgets maybe the clock widgets too...any ideas?
r u guys using any automatic task killer? I am using a HD2 with DHD build but not facing this problem after i uninstall any task killer app

You can't when you use another launcher you lose all the htc widgets if I was u I would use the skins in the app section they are superb and for some strange reason my phone its quicker now but they do look better also

how do i get that out?
Set LauncherPro as default and reboot the phone. (I´m not sure but it should work)

Go to Settings--> applications. Scroll down to HTC Sense (or look for Sense) and Stop it and erase data.
Make sure you don't start Sense after doing this, so go directly to Launcherpro
You can also freeze it with Titanium Backup, so it won't be running.
So lately I've been having an issue with any launcher I set as default. I'm rooted S-off running Iced Glacier 1.1.6 and just about every time i push the home button I get asked which launcher I'd like to use, no matter which I set as default...So I wiped cache partition and Dalvik cache and when that didn't work I did a data/factory reset and reinstalled Iced Glacier 1.1.6....any one else come across this?
Thanks in advance
Ditto here, can I push ADW to overwrite the sense launcher? if yes how. This is a real PIA.

Just asking to make sure, but are you selecting the "set as default launcher" checkbox before you make your selection? That box must be ticked for your selection to stick.

I have selected it. It sometimes holds for a bit but aster using a few apps it starts asking again.
I actually had same issue with my g1 running cyanogen mod when I installed the market version.

Try using an app from the market called home switcher. It makes it easier to switch default launchers and may help locking yours in. Don't know but it's worth a shot.

The other option you have is deleting the launchers that you are not using.
I tried home switcher for froyo. And home smack, still same. I'll try backup, wipe and only install adw tonight, see if that makes a difference.

I be careful though, i don't know what it'll do to the rest of the sense framework since everything is tied together.
Anyone know if I can uninstall the stock home launcher after switching over to a better launcher. Even frozen with titanium, stock launcher still starts, sucking up my battery and processor.

Just use titanium backup to delete it once you have the other installed...
Make sure you have a home app... or else it'll hang your phone and you'll be learning how to use rsdlite

I installed launcher pro. That's the best I've liked. Learning rsdlite is no biggie as I had to use it 3 times already when following instructions elsewhere here on removing/freezing motocrap. Thanx for the info.

Is there a way to keep your apps the same place that they are on your home screens on a new rom.

Not that I know of. A new ROM completely changes everything (UI) on your phone, so app placement wouldn't be possible.

Thanks I was just wondering because it is so annoying trying to remember were my apps go from my last rom

Haha yeah, but on the bright side, you get a ROM just the way you like it!

I know nova allows you to backup your homeacreens layout.

Well if you use a different launcher like Buzz launcher, Nova probably has it, you can backup your launcher layout and save it to your ExtSd card. Then after flashing a new Rom and reinstalling the launcher you can move the backup back to the launcher folder in the phone and go into the launcher settings and restore. You might have to tap to reload some.
If you use Zooper Widget or UCCW widgets on your Homescreen then you'd also want to back those up also externally so you can move them back to phone after the wipe and Rom install.
I haven't tried it with just app shortcuts as I use widgets but I imagine it would be the same as long as you restored your apps back with titanium.
For instance I've switch around from negalite , triforce, sacs and restore the same Homescreen on all of them, and others, I flash around a lot.

Would it matter if the ROM is tw based or aosp based? I think they handle home scene differently.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I had issues with cm and pacman but it was awhile back and not sure if it was 3rd party launcher issues but maybe it was. pretty sure I was ok on aokp because I really liked that one but I just get better connections with tw roms. So far. Still learning.

Not sure if you can on the stock launcher but in Buzz and nova it will be in those launchers settings. Look for Backup/Restore. It will save it in that launchers folder in the internal 'emulated' sdcard. It will probably be in a folder labeled backup and be a bak file. Just copy & paste to your ExtSd because you'll lose it when you wipe your phone. You can do the same thing if you use Widgetlocker, UCCW and Zooper then you dont have to rebuild those either. After reinstalling your apps you'll have to copy the files back into their folders under the emulated/0 internal sdcard.
Again I don't think you can backup the stock launcher but I suppose you could take screenshots of it to remember how you placed everything.
I highly recommend Buzz launcher, also if you get tired of your layout and don't want to make another, you can just download someone's else's right through the Homepack feature in the settings.
