I used autonooter 3.0 to root my nook do I have to worry about my nook automatically updating to the new firmware?
Yes you do. Check here, but nothing is truly confirmed to work yet.
Hmm any updates on which method is the best? I could only get the ADB to work via wifi so yeah... haha

well I did the OTA.... and ive rooted it following toasts tut... i got it to boot in recover mode... and im doing a NAND backup... oh just finished actually... i swear im not lying lol..
i finished the NAND backup and did a system reebot within the recovery... now let me get this straight tho... within the recovery is where I would flash a new rom yes? if I were to power off the Evo, root is gone right, this is only like a softspl ?
crap...EDIT:
um crap... nvm apparently i didnt update...
i swear I downloaded, installed, restarted the phone to allow install... but it shows software number 1.32.651.1.
maybe because I did a factory reset? then that would mean that this update is rather a patch (ie like a cab fix)??
or did the update not apply?
Ya, I had to download and install the update twice. There is no way root is worth the SD card bug, so until there is root for the patched ROM, no root for me.
The thing is right now we have ghetto root. The other devs have specifically said the update conflicted with root. Best not to install it if you care about it.

I don't. Not gonna bother rooting until after the official 2.2 ROM releases in August or so.
So i have been using eugenes initial build of the jpm froyo. Installed all the updates he had for it at the time using clockwork. It was kind of laggy so i was toying around with the oclf by ryan za. It asked to install/root through its own root feature. Now since i have done so. I lost root access. Does anyone know any way i can re-root my phone without having access to a computer. Losing root access has disabled my ability to flash any of the updates that have come out in recent weeks and its paining me i heard others have experianced this losing root glitch. And got flamed when i asked this question on eugene373s former rom thread.
Any advice.
Ps. ( having a blutooth keyboard and mouse hooked up to this phone on 2.2 Is the best thing since sliced bread)

Im assuming in the OCLF app now there is an option to "unroot" your phone? for ****s and giggles click that see if it didnt just get mixed up since you told it to root when you were already rooted. If that doesnt work download Galaxy S Rooter from the market and try that. if THAT doesnt work i would say wipe data and try either of them one more time. and if all fails youll most likely have to flash stock firmware and root from there
I have actualy tried both of those options. Haha, I'm looking at my final option of flashing back to stock via odin, but that requires a computer which I do not have access to. I figured id see if anyone had some other root reroot option I didn't know about.... or if there is a way to unroot from this semii rooted stage I'm stuck in. The phone thinks it rooted but when I try to use any program that requires root access it force closes the app etc.
I am in the Uk (vodafone network) and rooted my R800i Play with Gingerbreak. I have some questions -
1) If i upgrade to 2.3.3 will it brick my phone?
2) If i upgrade to 2.3.3 will i have to root my phone again?
- also will i have to remove all the bloatware again?
3) Does Gingerbreak work with 2.3.3?
5) Do Gameloft games now work correctly with 2.3.3?
6) Is there any noticable benefit to upgrading to 2.3.3?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you did not unlock your boot loader it will not brick it
Currently ginger break does not work with 2.3.3 how ever if you update your phone OTA you will still have access to root I'd you update via pc you will lose root
Well most od the games work now..but asphalt 6 does not support the touch pad anymore in 2.3.3
The launcher had improved I used to have a lot of lags now its reduced noticibly the battery had improved and the facebook updates are also cool all in all I'd recommend it

It probably won't update OTA when you have removed some bloatware, mine wouldn't. So I flashed the UK generic 1.84 firmware, rebooted and rooted my phone and did the OTA.

Make sure to use flashtool 0.2.9.1 beta it supports the play.
Regards Dousan...
Thanks for the replies. However i am stuck.
1) If i try to flash using the flash tool, i get to the point where it tells me to power on the phone holding the back button.
I then get an error message telling me to reinstall the device drivers.
I therefore reinstalled all the drivers and even reinstalled PC Companion again.
However i get the same problem, it wont flash and keeps telling me to reinstall the device drivers.
2) I then decided i dont care about root access. Ill just update via PC Companion. However i get to the point where it recognises my phone, but then tells me to go into mass media storage mode at which point it fails to recognise my phone and cant proceed with the update to 2.3.3
Any suggestions on how to correctly install the USB drivers or any other ideas?
You need to install the driver that comes with flashtool.........

Didnt see the driver folder so didnt try the drivers inside it.
I found the best way to overide all settings, root, PC Companion etc and just get a complete fresh 2.3.3 install.
SE provide the tools for this here -
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...etailed/updateservice/xperia-play?cc=gb&lc=en
It provides a direct way to update your phone and reset to factoy settings if you wish. Also installs all bloatware etc too btw.
You do lose root access though, but not your user settings (unless you want a factory reset).
I doubt i will bother to root the phone for a while, not much benefit imho. Hopefully the dev scene isnt dead for the Play and we will have some proper custom roms released soon.
Thanks for the help.
so how update phone to 2.3.3 when i got unlocked bootloader?
bricked my phone last time. updated it through seus then voila! it's alive again! and it's on 2.3.3!
Hi Everyone,
I was watching some video reviews of the Kindle Fire and noticed that this one individual was prompted to install an OTA upon first boot. Is it still rootable afterwards?
Thanks!
Mine did an OTA and i was still able to root. My device version was 6.1 (didnt check before update so idk if thats what comes out of box)
Just got mine today. It updated software as soon as I input a wifi password. Was still able to root it 30 min later.

Did the update as well, but can't seem to get my device to recognize on adb but that is probably a different problem....

Even if the OTA did affect root, it wouldn't affect ADB's ability to recognize your device.
Hey all OUYAins!
So recently I updated my OUYA to Chickcharney and lost root access *cue crying*
I tried installing RootMyOuya1.1 by WonderEkin but it didn't install. So I snooped around for different rooting methods such as ReRoot script by Eldon McGuiness (You can take a look at his script here).
The method that worked perfectly fine for me was to download a piece of software called Kingo (here). Simply download and install it and connect your OUYA to your computer via USB and click Start Root. Wait for the software to root your OUYA and it will eventually reboot. You should now have SuperSU installed with root access!
I hope this thread helps anyone having difficulty with getting root access on Chickcharney!
I'm assuming the device needs to already have been rooted prior to trying Kingo ROOT? I just got my system on Thursday and since I'm new it forced me to download the Chickcharney update and I can't figure out what the best way is to root my OUYA.
i just got one on friday and the same thing it updated automatically
i use this to root my system it still works
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2350900
my ouya was rooted before the update. yesterday I tried Kingo and it said "already rooted", but I had no root permission. So I clicked "root again" and after a minute or so my ouya was rooted again properly.
Thanks Sn0wdune

I tried that to root it but it said it couldn't find the Ouya. I'm running the latest update Chickcharney on mine. Do I need to wipe it to run the root?

That's odd. Are you sure you have your OUYA connected via USB properly and the drivers are correctly installed?

The driver's wouldn't install because I had to turn off driver signing. I got it working after that with Ouya Toolbox root... even though it was crashing part way through. I had to run the TEST version of Ouya Toolbox and just forced the root and I guess it was fine because it appears to be rooted.
