Wondering where my SD card space went to? - EVO 4G General

The other day I had put my SD card, (A-Data 16GB Class 10) into my windows 7 64 bit machine mainly because I could not fine my usb cable. Everything seemed to be fine, I had just upgraded from the stock 8GB card that cam with my Evo. After I placed the card back into my Evo I noticed that my nandroid folder was gone. I was luckily as I always try to keep backups on my computer so I was not that worried, note to anyone always keep nandroid back somewhere other than you SD card. Fast forward about two weeks, I downloaded a great little app DiskUsage https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&feature=search_result that I think I saw here on this forum a while back, to see where all of my SD space was going. Just going to the Storage space in CM7 was showing that there was 8 GB free when there was only 4 GB on the card. 8 + 4 = 12 and the card is 16 GB even with formatting I should not have lost 4 GB.
Quick note 16 GB card is not really 16 GB. I get tried of hearing people complain that their X GB card only shows 15.2 GB in this case. Do the math. 1 megabyte = 1024 Kilobytes and 1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes roughly. So if you say 16,000 megabytes (what you think the sd card has) / 1024 (because computer space is built on 8 bits = 1 byte) = 15.625 GB of actual storage space.

Back to where I was, so I found this folder called Found.000 and had no clue what it was. This folder was taken up roughly 3.5 GB of space, and it was a hidden system folder as I later realized, not Andorid system, Windows system. You may ask where did it come from, well after a cup, or 4 of coffee I found that when dealing with Windows and you plug a SD card, for this case, into the computer and it says SD card not properly ejected do you want to look for errors, and you say yes and allow it to fix any error that it finds. Well this is the result, a folder name Found.000 with the files/folders that the Windows system attempted to restore but they are unreadable. I then put 2 and 2 together and found out that is was my nandroid folder that I was missing. So now what to do with it. Well this is where I got impatient. After reading that you should not remove this folder, and then reading that it did not matter, I decided to reformat the SD card. SD cards should be formatted with SD Formatter http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/ for better results with speed. I did reformat after backing up and then copy my files/folder back to the SD card and now have been running with no problems and all of my unused space free. Just thought that this might help other people in what seems to be a fight to keep your SD card cleaner.

[Q] SD 2GB mem card working with android but not 16GB

Im trying to use the android running fron the SD card from another post, the android is under development still, but or some reason it only works on my 2gb mem card and not my 16gb card. is it maybe because of the format?
the 2gb came with the phone, but i formated my new 16gb on the phone but it still doesnt work.
thanks
this is all on the htc hd mini (photon) btw
You just Format your 16GB SD to FAT32, and copy the Cotulla's Android to your SD then open Explorer on your phone, and tap on HaRET.
That is it.
Of me, the Android works, but it's too slow mine, microSD 8GB
i'm using an 16 gb microsd on my mini and it runs android very well (fast) and in my opinion any 16 gb card should work since 16 gb are relatively new and faster than the smaller ones .Keep trying ,format the card on pc ,i personally formated with the phone's formating tool
damn.. one of the times i tried it did the start up video (very slowy) and then froze, now just keeps freezing on the load bar agen. i formated it using the phone formater as its the only way i can. but still bein gay.
ive got a string feeling its due to the type of memry card, as my difrent branded 2gb one works fine, but when the android is eventualy 100% done i wont be able to have it all on my 16gb

what brand/make is ur sd card?
thanks
it's Kingmax 16gb microsdhc class 2 (first time took android about 20 minutes to boot and now about 3-4 minutes )
Mine is writen (microSD), 8GB
in my Android, for first time had takes about 2 hours and creates Data File, but second time it's will boot about 33 Minutes (too much, isn't?) and the android runs but it's slow. I formated the SD with many Format programs.. all of them same things, I also upgraded my WinMo but it was same.

[Q] SD Card Space

My nook has 7.0.3 encore stable, 4 GB card, and I was wondering if there was a way to increase the SD card space in Android to greater than 39 MB.
On my computer, I did extend the partition, but the extended area shows up as the internal storage, and I need the SD card space for some apps.
thanks
R u running CM7 from eMMC or booting it off uSD?
Do pls indicate clearly
I am booting CM7 off of the uSD card
If so, you should have at least 110MB+ space on "boot", roughly about 1GB for /data and /system and the rest, probably 2GB+ left over, for your own use.
Use a tool such as Minitool Partition Wizard, to extend the 4th partition on your SD card all the way to the max. You should get roughly over 3 GB of space on a 4GB card when running off uSD.
what I'm talking about is the "virtual" SD card that android recognizes. I did extend the fourth partition, but the space for my stuff goes under internal storage. is there a way I can make some of that space go under SD card that android recognizes?
did you ever get an answer or figure this out? I have been searching for 2 days and cannot find info on which partition CM7 thinks is "the phone" for the purpose of installing apps. I get 2-3 on then it says I am out of space.
Yes, when I used a 32 gB card, the internal storgae partition was about one gb, and my SD card partition (inside android) was 28 gb
So I guess it would depend on the sizeof your SD card?
Thanks for this thread guys!!
Minitool partition allowed me to upgrade my 8Gb microSD to at 32Gb microSD.
Now I can REALLY load those PDFs, ebooks, and music onto my Nookcolor's Android C7.

sd card reporting wrong filled space problem

I have bought a new Sandisk 32 GB class 4 sd card
I formatted it as fat32 with the windows normal utility
the strange thing is that when I look at each single file in it with a file manager it shows its size correctly
however the system reports that the space occupied in the card is twice as much as what it really is.
For example I copied in it all of the content of my old 8 GB card, and after copying
the system said that the occupied space in the new card was 15 GB, which is impossible.
Could it be a formatting related problem?
Format it from the phone, from Settings -> Sd card or something like that.
Thanks for the help
anyway I fixed following a different method
Made a long format
then copied the data from the old card to the computer and then those into the new card
Before I copied directly between the cards after a quick format.
Now I see that any new file that I add occupies the right amount of space

storage confusion(memory)

im just a bit confused about the sd card in general,,my phone of astro file manager has like,,,phone>sdcard>externalsd...which is weird and i never know if im searching my phone or my sd card...
when i try and load things i have dragged on my pc desktop onto sdcard they ussualy then go into phone>sdcard>external sd and never just .... sd card
i was trying to load images into sketchbook mobile and i could only do so from the phones camera pictures where i now have to drag everything omn the desktop....why cant i make use of my 32gb external sd card in this regard?
where are the applications for augmenting tehe sd card memory or whatever not for just having aplication sent to sd card memory,
does the sd card just work like say,,an external usb hard drive for a computer except you can put some inatalled application on it,,,,,but nothing like media,,photos videos etc?
or is it just me?
cheers
Your phone aka tab is divided into parts
System arnd 2 gigs
SDCARD arnd 14 gigs
System works as space for system
Sd as your sd card - Flashing doesn't destroy data on this
And if you place another SD card then it is termed as external_sd
So primary storage for you phone is SD Which is its own space
PS : there is usb storage folder (in sd card directory) also which is for your pendrives, etc

there are a lot more partitions than the 2 you mentioned!
efs
system (~1GB)
data (~2GB)
hidden
...
as far as i remember the note has 8 or 9 partitions (all of them have to be
subtracted from the initial 16gig (unformated!! formated it will be significantly less) storage!
so from your 16gigs you should see around 11GB as free mem on '"sdcard"!
i can't tell exactly because i have the 32gb internal version. with it a little more than 25,5GB are shown as "total" available (not free) storage!
as mentioned above
the rom has 1gb partition
data/system has 2gb
rest is used for sd card purposes around about 11.8gb
the device sees the internal memory as sd memory, the external sd card is seen under /external_sd
the file mangers will automatically go directly to the internal storage when browsing
i understand that I get about 12 GB left from 16 internally but.....
what can I actually do with the external_sd?
I cant load jpeggs onto sketchbook mobile at the moment. Reaally annoying
Any reason as to why it wouldn't recognize files in the external_sd?
Also we were saying about partitins and other random folder in the phone SD and external sd? anyone got a referrl to which ones can be deleted and generally how to make the phone and external sd card more navigation friendly?
please this would be really helpful
external_sd is your physical micro sd card, you can do what you want with it, i personally have all my music and movies on there
what files are you putting on the card?

cannot move more than a few apps to sd card? out of space?

Ok, I am pulling my hair out. I only have about a gig of internal space left. I put in a few different SD cards... two are 32 GB and one is 64 GB. I can only move a few apps to the SD Card and then I get a message stating "Not enough storage space." I know I'm not out of space. I only moved a few apps. I check anyways. Still shows there's over 30 GB of the 32 GB card free. I've swapped out the card. I have 3 of them. All are doing the same thing. I just went to the extreme earlier. I rooted the tab A (It wasn't rooted earlier today and I've been having this problem for 2 days.) I then tried to use link2sd and same exact problem. I have the 2 partitions. Both are fat32. One is 31 GB and second is 1 GB. I'll link a few apps over. Then I'll get the same error. "Not enough storage space." Well, apps2sd gives a slightly different error... "Unable to copy Data. No space left on destination." Opening a drive free space app, it shows I have 28.57 GB of 28.69 GB free.
Why are you partitioning the sdcard with 2 FAT32 partitions, in particular 1gb?
When usink link2sd You should be using exFAT for the second partition and the first should be ext 2,3 or 4. Recommended ext2.
I'm also confused how you can possibly have a 31gb and 1gb partition on a 32gb sd card that will only yield 29gb at best.
Rather than link2sd maybe you should consider adoptable storage.
