Hi,
I'm having some big problems with the GPS in the Nexus S. It seems like it works for a while after a reboot, and then dies. In GPS Status, it seems like it finds 6-7 satellites, but that it does not get any fix. I have used GPS Status to download new GPS Assistance data, but it does not seem to do any difference. After a reboot, it gets a lock in about 20 seconds. But then the next time I want to use it, usually the next day or similar, it does not work again.
Anyone have similar problems?
I have exactly the same problem since 2.3.3 (stock rom / kernel, rooted), the gps works fine after a reboot, but after some time it can't get a fix. What is your baseband version ? After installing 2.3.3 (build GRI40), I flashed the baseband from GRI54 (I9020XXKB3), but I don't remember if I used the gps before changing the baseband or not. Could be related ?
Everything stock
Android version 2.3.3, Baseband I9020XXKB1, Build number GRI40

Hi, i have varius problems with the nexus, i don't understend why with the rom:
Cyanogen 5.0.3
Cyanogen 5.0.6
Cyanogen 5.0.7test
Cyanogen 5.0.7test
Kang-o-rama-0.6-Final
Kang-o-rama-0.7b1
don't work the gps and don't vibrate the phone if i receive an sms
Edit: Also try the r22 and r21 but nothing ...
before trying the Kang-o-rama-0.7b1 everything worked perfectly ..
I have given everything to the initial state with the original ROM but the GPS does not work
If you have flashed everything back to stock, then the GPS in your phone might be physically nonworking. Since your phone is unlocked, I'm not sure how HTC will treat a warranty claim on something like this. If you call them, mention nothing about unlocking or changing ROMS, just act ignorant and do everything they say.
Have you tried the GPS outside in the open to make 100% sure you are picking up a signal?
I had the same problem. I went form Enoms new rom 1.9.2 to The desire rom alpha 22 i ran into a no Edge/3g/H problem so went back to enoms and now i had no GPS. Switched over to Cynogens newest rom and still no GPS. So i went back to Enoms and again no GPS. Long story short i had to go to the last backup that worked which was Enoms still no GPS but i reflashed Enoms rom over my recovery image and now my phones working fine again. Sorry if it dosnt make sense but give it a try.
Thank you all, i resolved flashed the original rom twice and using Copilot. Gps test, gps status and Sygic could not connect, after tried Copilot the gps work.. i don't know
i have nfinity 0.81 on my tattoo...i never cared if i would have gps or not.
but i come know to a conclusion that i will need it
which rom should i flash and enable gps and than flash back?
which would you recommend..i tried with
fyodor FroYo AOSP Tattoo v0.7.2c
but it didnt worked.
thanks for any help
here's what i did to re-enable GPS:
install the stock rom
root your phone, install clockworkmod
be sure to have GPS enabled before you flash the nfinity rom
Easier way:
Enable GPS.
Flash ROM you want from Recovery.
heh that s nice, didn t know you could do that
Me too. But I try it because I was too lazy to flash stock ROM(and wipe all data) and unfortunately it helps and GPS is working now for me

i enable gps with my actual rom nfinity0.82
flashed spqrom0.7 but nothing changed...still hasent gps activated.
what am i doing wrong?
I don't know but these steps work for me.
Just:
Enable GPS
With enabled GPS boot into recovery
flash some ROM
If it is not OK for you. You can still try to flash stock ROM and then use these step again.
I have an even worse problem. I had nFinity 0.81 with the GPS working (and phone was stable, I'm sometimes running openBmap to scan for wifis and cellular towers and it never crashed). So i flashed the 0.82 (with GPS on) and know the GPS behaves really strangely. If I use GPS Status & Toolbox with the new 0.82 it takes really long to lock to any satellites and when it eventually does lock on, it drops the lock a few times, and if I quit the app and then start it again it starts first finding out the satellites and after a while it locks (0.81 behavior would be to lock on immediately). And now openBmap crashes the phone (reboot). I tried wiping and installing 0.82 from scratch but still it crashes and wan't lock on. I tried restoring 1.6 and then wiping and flashing the 0.82 still nothing. Fortunately I have 0.81 nandroid backup, so I reverted back to 0.81 and there GPS works with the openBmap not crashing the phone.

Yes, it has some issues, but i believe if you have gps turned on at all times it works fine. Only if you turn it on/off, you have to reboot in order to work again. And Kalim also said, that u can have gps turned on and it won't drain any battery, if none apps need gps. So i have gps always on, and it's working
Hi all,
I have a GT-I9505, running stock ROM I9505XXUGNG8 (KitKat 4.4.2), and I can NOT get the GPS to work. I've used GPS tester programs "GPS Test" and "GPS Status" and what I see is that the phone sees anywhere from 12-20 satellites, but does not get a fix on any of them. Once in a blue moon I'll get 1 or two to lock. I am outside or in the car when I use the tester programs, so no interference from buildings.
It is rooted, has busybox and CWM recovery on it. It does not have Yahoo Weather (just the weather app that came with the phone). I don't know if it is hardware or software at this point. It does seem to have the lovely Knox bootloader. (SE for Android status - Enforcing)
*#1234# tells me:
AP: I9505XXUGNG8
CP: I9505XXUGNG8
CSC: I9505OXAGNG8 (but I use the phone in Israel).
I've been trying to find a case that is similar to mine, but I haven't found one yet. Can anyone help me out here? I was going to re-flash the modem part of GNG8 just to see if that would help, Maybe going to CyanogenMod or reflashing the stock would help? What about GNH8? The I9505 is not sold in Israel at this time, so I have not found any Israel-specific ROM/CSCs for it. I don't know if the CSC for the I9500 (which is sold here) would help or hurt.
There are a lot of things I can think of to waste my time with, but I'm hoping some of the smart people in this forum will be able to help make it a shorter process.
Mate I've had this problem since I flashed |ROM|★GE★|►VJUGNH2◄|►41◄|.
I've tried CM11, I've tried stock for my area (UK)
I9505XXUGNG8_I9505BTUGNG2_I9505XXUGNG8_HOME.tar (stock ROM)
BL_I9505XXUGNG8_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT (stock bootloader)
GSM_Modem_XXUGNG8_and_LTE_Modem_XXUGNG8.tar (stock LTE modem)
and to no avail. I keep having GPS lock issues. I did flash Adams Kernal when flashing the GE and CM11 ROMS. But surely flahsing stock everything should fix the bloody GPS

It looks like it may have been the GPS antenna not being connected properly when it was built. I tried SlimKat and CM11 M9 to no avail. I thought I would see if the GPS antenna was physically broken, and it looked fine. But I did hear a click when I was working with it that made me think that it wasn't attached properly. I unplugged both ends, plugged them back in, and now all 3 roms work with the GPS. So I restored my nandroid backup of the stock GNG8 and life is good. Yeah, there's Samsung bloatware, but there are enough other things in the stock rom that I think I'll just stick with it for now.
So long and thanks for all the fish,
Wayne
Well, maybe I spoke too soon? It's true that detaching and re-attaching the GPS antenna makes the GPS work again, but it only works for about a day and then goes dead again. It starts working again when I take off the back and detach/re-attach the antenna. I can't continue to constantly go through that cycle. Is it bad hardware? Do I need to find a Samsung repair shop somewhere? Or is there a software setting I'm missing somwhere?
Thanks!
Hey, just a finall wrap-up for the thread. Long story short, I eventually did a complete wipe of the phone - dalvik, cache, system, data - everything, and then did a clean installation of one of the ROMs here (Optimized CM 12.1). At that point everything snapped back to life, the GPS locks quickly, it's all the way it should be. So I guess there was something deep in the system partition that was messing it up, and it took a total wipe to clear it out properly. Happy phone user now.
I currently have the last temasek cm11 build on my phone. GPS works fine. No problem at all. If I switch ROMs and restore my data, GPS still works fine.
However, the GPS will NOT work AT ALL on *any* other ROM I try. Whether it's AOSP cm11 or cm12. Whether it's a samsung build. Whether it's a stock samsung build. GPS will NOT lock. I run GPS Status apps and it just sits trying to get a lock, forever. Nothing.
Flash back my current ROM. BOOM. GPS Works fine.
IF I flash another AOSP build and DON'T wipe data/cache/etc.. GPS will still work fine. It only breaks when I do a clean install.
So, wtf? What could possibly be on my /data that is keeping my GPS working, and some how not even touchwiz ROMs also contain? It's an 900T, and currently on AOSP, so the codes I see floating around don't work. Granted, I could flash a touchwiz ROM and try them again, but right now GPS is working as long as I'm on one ROM, I'm afraid to use the code and completely break GPS. It just doesn't seem to be something at that deep of a level as flashing back to my current ROM always fixes it. Which tells me it's some simple config that I need.
Anyone know what the heck could be causing the problem? My cm11 build is sooo dirty from xposed and massive tweaking that bluetooth and other things lock up daily, so I really want to run another ROM or at least do a clean install, but I can't lose my GPS. It's used daily.
Last night I installed a alpha version of xposed onto my phone, it was working fine and modules were working fine up to when I installed xprivacy. It put my phone into a bootloop. After restoring to an earlier version of cyanogenmod, it takes considerably longer to start up and it takes a long time for the network to start. The WiFi says its turning on but it has not for the past 12 hours. Bluetooth works fine and so does mobile data but WiFi never turns on. What I have noticed is when I turn my phone on the baseband version is unknown, and then after a while it returns to normal. Does anyone know how to fix it? I'm currently running cyanogenmod nightly 05/07 but even changed the version nothing happens. Cheers
Probably you need to reinstall your baseband

Why baseband is not WiFi .
Yeah but like u can see. His baseband version doesn't match, and it might be connected to each other
