Bugs in froyo update - Galaxy 3 General

Are there any bugs in the official froyo update? This might sound weird, but the update has not been released in Singapore.
Sent from my Kyrillos Ultimate Edition 1.3Ghz GT-I5801

there are some bugs reported like gps takes a way long time... bt if u are thinking to flash via odin i.e. firmware ddjp2 then plz don't it will soft brick your phone.

Please go through the following post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046295
It has a lot of bugs. It would be better you install any one of the custom rom s than waiting for the official firmware (as we are so disappointed with the release).

[Q] JP2 vs JPF vs JPM

Hi all.
I have been waiting for the official Froyo update for G3 since last year August. I haven't tinkered with my phone at all and it is the stock 2.1 FW available by default in India (DDJG5).
However since the DDJP2 has been released, i have read forums with people having endless issues with this build. (Which is really disappointing from Samsung considering they made us wait so long).
So I have finally decided to flash froyo as i don't think Samsung will bother to provide a fix for the JP2.
And i wanted to know which stock ROM is the best, with least number of issues - JP2, JPF or JPM??
Also will i have any issues with network connectivity if i am flashing a ROM from a country other than India?
It would be great if we could also have a comparison of the custom ROMs available. (From what i have read so far Kyrillos seems the best IMO, but i am not too confident with flashing and partitioning as i have never done it before)
Well, you can only try for yourself. One thing is certain though, you can forget JPF. It's old and outdated.
I haven't tried JP2, but JPM in my opinion is the best froyo rom out there. Haven't had a single problem with it, and battery lasts very long. All major custom ROMs are based on JPM, too.

Thanks for the input.
I see you are using Kyrillos 4.1. Can i flash it over JPM if i consider a change later? Or do i have to flash JPF first and then Kyrillos? Also is it required to partition the sdcard for Kyrillos or can i just flash it and it will work fine?
yes you can flash it, and no, I don't think it's necessary to partition your sdcard
Thanks again. And one more question. I have seen a few versions of JPM floating around. Some with bootloaders, some without them, some say it is onepackage, etc etc. I don't really understand fully what they all mean by that, so could anyone point me to the latest JPM build, (with the least possibility of getting my phone bricked).
If it reads JPM then It's the latest build, always. There might be different ways to flash them (it can be a one package or in parts, as you said). So yeah doesn't matter, but if your JPM comes in parts, don't flash the bootloader. The only way to brick your phone during flashing is if you're flashing the bootloader and then lose USB connection for a reason or another.
As for partitioning sdcard.. I think you need to do it in Kyrillos. At least I did, as it showed me 0kb as internal memory. Kyrillos (and\or his thread?) can confirm this.
Oh and I cannot remember what ROM I flashed before flashing kyrillos, but I've seen the man himself suggesting people to flash JPF first if anything goes wrong or the phone doesn't boot. And I this was what I had to do to get Kyrillos' ROM to boot
I was using stock eclair 2.1 DDJG6 in India while other was flashing custom rom all around. I had a facination with live wallpapers so i rooted my phone and used it. Then i got offcial update directly from kies. Probably the first one in India. After checking it out i figured several bugs such as the youtube, camera, music player, stock browser. So i was wondering to take a risk and flash my phone confused betwwen JPM Stock and Krillos 4.1. Then i plucked up the courage an then flashed it with non overclocked version without partitioning my card directly from DDJP2 to krillos 4.1. Its pretty good atleast better than so called OFFICIAL FROYO DDJP2 we were all eagerly waiting for. **** YOU SAMSUNG.
Just saw on Samfirmware.com:
Europe releases XWJPE(March 30) and XWJPF(April 5) are they improvements on the XXJPM (Feb)...
It would be great to have all the issues and advantages of the latest FW in a tabulated format won't it? Would sure help a lot of people in deciding.
@ayan - How is the Kyrillos working out for you?, facing any issues in usage? Just flashed it using Odin with the tar file and the ops file?
I haven't tested these new roms out, but they most likely wouldn't release 'em if there was no improvements.
Oh and XXJPF is the outdated one I was talking about, this ROM is XWJPF, which as you said, is newer then JPM.
thanks
thanks Nice idea !!! ^^

Yes i just thought its better to do that way. And as off now Kyrillos is good. But the camera bug is still there. I dont know. I am thinking to trying the new firmware XWJPF . Lets c how it works.
I just flashed JPM build from samfirmware.com and it is root by default. Some issues i am having:
1. GO Launcher Ex keeps restarting 90% of the time i hit the home button.
2. Not able to log into facebook and twitter account sync, however facebook and twitter individual apps are working.
3. The sizes of most apps in the App Management list is shown to be below or around 1mb.
4. GPS signal not locking on.
If anyone else is also having these issues or can remedy them please tell me.

Problems 1,2,4 resolved after a few restarts. No. 3 still persists (although one can easily live without a fix for this ).
Really love the JPM rom... No real issues as of yet ...
I also have that app size thing and think it as a bug that I can live with.. it also exists in other ROMs. My theory is that the system has moved it to external storage and for some reason reading it as if it was installed on internal storage, and reads that it takes 0mb of phone's memory. I could be wrong, though.
Hope that wasn't too messy explanation
One bug i noticed just now ... Wifi takes too long to switch on and most of the times gives error. Only switches on after 3-4 continuous tries. Is anyone else experiencing the same??
This also makes me ask a question, can my G3 work on a wifi created by my laptop? if so, then how? Because i have an internet connection through a lan cable, and would like to utilise it on the phone to save up on the 3G data charges.
I like JPM IT is stable

Uninstall Gingerbread MIUI 2.3.4 on Galaxy S

Hello, i need to uninstall Miui Gingerbread to install the official Gingerbread, i'm much more used to it, how can i do it?? Already tried to clean up the data and system and tried the Sam's firmaware last gingerbread but it would not worked.. Is it possible to downgrade to 2.2 and then install 2.3.3??
Greetings
Yes it is possible to downgrade for 2.3.3 to 2.2(.1 in my case)
I can't remember exactly how I did it, but I basically followed the instructions to install MIUI, but for a 2.2 ROM, so wiping data, system and cache, then flashing a darky ROM (but should work with any tbh)
Dead easy. Just install the Samsung Android 2.3.3 XWJVB ROM (link - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-install-xwjvb-gingerbread-rom-gaalxy-s/)
But before you install XWJVB, install the EZRom to remove/uninstall the MIUI. It's available in two versions, select the one you want:
Android 2.2 based EZRom - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ezbase-ezrom-for-android-2-2-install-revert-back/
Android 2.3 based EZRom - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ezbase-rom-v3-0-full-installation-guide-w-video/
Credits and Thanks to Nitr8 for great EZRoms
All you need to do it , Flash the Official GB FW , using Odin (Repartition just to be sure)

Ill be straight to the point.. most of us have been using cm9 which is ics 4.0.0 since august 2012,each week, well sometimes every two weeks, since they are missing weeks. Cm9 is a nightly, which means there are bugs and issues, since teh rom is not stable. However, most of the problems have been fix and I have had not had any real issues with it, I do use it day to day, till a new custom rom (based off a previous cm9 nightly release) comes out that I want to try. but the roms has come a long way since build 1.
If something went wrong? like you bricked your phone. There is two ways.. create a back up in cwm before you flash cm9... or you can used kdz, which is used to recovery your phone if your brick it or you want to upgrade or download your firmware.
Also please give me more info about your phone. Like what baseband you are using, what country etc.
Also there are some stock custom roms, which are modified version of stock (2.3.6). With features like 1000 GHz overclock, new launcher, file manager and other useful tweaks/mods

Upgrade to the latest firmware using the Lg firmware site. Also make sure you do a back up when you install cmw, before you flash cm9. Also you might want to download the 1GHz Kernel, even if you dont plan to overclock, it will get rid of the battery bug on start up.

Custom Kitkat ROM with empasis on battery life?

The only S5 Kitkat ROMs I've found either haven't been updated in over a year, or many users are reporting severe bugs like no camera support, or severe battery drain issues.
I'm just trying to get an app called Winulator running so I can play Starcraft: Broodwar on android, but it isn't working and one user said that is because Lolipop broke it (I'm on 5.1.1 atm). The app is no longer supported so I don't think it will ever run properly on 5.x. If anyone knows of a way to emulate 4.x for just 1 app maybe that would be the best shortcut for me overall here.
Barring that, could someone please recommend a guide to installing a lightweight, power-user-oriented ROM that is 4.x or older and has excellent battery life? I was going to try the official 4.4.4 VanirAOSP release but there are too many reports of poor battery performance in the last 2 pages of that thread for my liking.
I think the first thing I need to do is unlock the bootloader, and I've yet to find a definite answer on the best method of doing this from FOL1 (12/15). It seems I will need Odin on my PC and I have it. I've also started backing up all the data from my phone by manually copying/pasting to my PC.
I guess once everything is finally backed up (it's taking FOREVER, explorer literally been calculating time to copy for 10 minutes now just on the phone/android folder), then I will try and flash the official 4.4.2 VanirAOSP ROM since that one doesn't have any reports of battery issues and possibly only the camera and a few things won't work.
BTW, is there a step specially to unlock the FOL1 bootloader that I am missing, or can I just flash that ROM with Odin straight up? I found a comment stating NOT to flash 5.1.1 with Odin or I'd be stuck on Lollipop until some new bootloader-unlock method comes out. The 5.1.1 I'm running wasn't flashed with odin it was sent OTA and I've never rooted or had custom rom/bootloader, so I should be good on that I guess?
I am actually about to dive into this, if no one has any suggestions for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2752995
So I'll just pick one at random then? Thanks for the help...
You haven't even listed your model S5 or the ROM it's running now
And of course KK hasn't been updated in over a year, Lollipop and Marshmallow are released, they're not going to keep updating KK when a newer version of Android is released

OTA is gone on stock rom

So, i was using custom rom for a while on my phone and i decided to get back to stock so i can sell my phone later.
Problem is, it is not receiving OTA updates anymore!
I've installed V8.1.3.0.LHJMIDI from here: http://en.miui.com/download-261.html and i know there is a MIUI v8.2 update for my redmi 2 prime, but i can't find it anymore over OTA like before.
Can anyone explain what's wrong with this rom?

8.2 update is rolled back due to some issues.
Now, the latest version is 8.1.3.0 (which is also available on the MIUI downloads page).
