Hero rom problems

i'm trying to do this to my g1 but it's a little vauge for someone who has never attempted this. i.e: me ... couple of quick questions 1st:
-do i need to get a new sdcard to replace the stock 1?
-does the phone need to be in rc29 first?
step#5 at the bottom listed to wipe and flash the phone, so i looked up how to flash the g1 on this forum and it seemed to require going back to rc29, which i did.
only problem is, step#2 listed to extract step#1 in to the "ext2" partition, which no longer exists after i put my phone back to rc29.
i just installed jesusfreke's rc33 thinking maybe "ext2" was only on rc33 or something, and "ext2" still is not there. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. i used "SDSPLIT" to create a dual partitioned sdcard, & sdsplit says everything is partitioned and ready, only now when i mount it to my computer nothing shows up.
oh and i'm new, sorry if this has been posted...went through a ton of pages on this forum and didn't see any posts about it, might have overlooked it while scrolling through wall after wall after wall of posts
EDIT: i used to own an htc fuze and wizard, but this phone is a whole new ballgame for me!

Same here... do we need a replacement mircro sd card than the one given to us in the box?

Oh my goodness gracious, 1. Y would u follow a guide not in the forums [email protected] ur posting on? Have u even tried searching first? Why would you need to replace ur sd? It would be better to(not sure what class it is, but im sure its a 2), the phone needs to have root to install Hero, and the partitions on the SD card r not rom related

you can use any micro sd card.
use the search....

First you didn't read the very firs post on this forum.It should be deleted. Second flashing the hero rom in not for the average Joe. Third a little search goes a long way....i.e. there is a post on how to do it.

if you don't know what ext2 is you should forget about it since you didn't even bother reading the guides that are posted here...

Hmm sounds like a problem, what I recommend is that you go and call up TMobile and go ahead and pay another 400 dollars for another G1 and see what firmware it is, repeat as needed until you get one that has RC29 on it.
Alright, seriously, use the search button, and follow guides on THIS site if you plan on asking questions. You do not need a new SD card, however the stock card that comes with the G1 is a class 2 card, which is not sufficient for Apps2SD. Just type into the command prompt
adb push (location of app_s.zip) /system/sd/
adb shell
cd /system/sd/
unzip App_s.zip
You should be good now.
Also, do not mount the SD card. Just plug it in and do the ADB commands.

I don't know how darkstone's name got into this thread, but football made it clear that you should not flash the ace build to your hd2. just re-flash the stock rom and your phone should be fine. hope this helps

I think he flashed a beta ROM darkstone made. It was just like any other Android build, made to launch from the sdcard. What happened exactly? You flashed it and it booted fine then just died?

Take your battery and microsd card out and leave it for a few hours. Then plug in the battery but LEAVE THE SD CARD OUT and try booting up your phone into Windows.
Also how did you put those files on your phone since they are for the Storage Card. Did you try to copy them to your internal memory in some way?
You REALLY shouldnt try test versions unless you know what you are doing which im very sure you didnt..

OK, so you managed to get a hold of the files that I'm sharing with devs, and you somehow flash those files on to your phone (how is that even possible) ?
You must of flashed your phone using the EXE file on the first post of this thread right? If you did, then you should have not been so careless. Clearly on the first post it states that this is for developers only, this was not to be flashed.
Do not blame my files for something that you have done. Those files were not intended to be spread on this forum, however I have no problem if people do wish to post about it.
Time for you to call HTC and see if you can get a replacement...

wait yea you're right. it's not a "flushable" ROM..i just downloaded the file and it's just another Android build that you put on the SD card. Not sure what the OP "flushed" but yeah, taking the SD card out and restarting the phone should do the trick. Am I missing something? Can you actually brick your phone booting android from Haret?

Nope it's fine
I don't mind links being posted, but people need to be careful with them.
There was a reason that I didn't post that link, the build was incomplete and still had issues.

There is always a slight chance of messing Windows Mobile up but as long as you have HardSPL installed you can easily flash a new rom and get everything working again so nothing much to worry about.

It was I who put the link, without malice, thought it could be shared, i wrote clearly that it was a BETA BUILD for devs try.
If you want, i delete de post.

i just put the beta rom on my Sd card and pressed haret,then it stuck on bootlader,i taked off battery and on nothing happent.there is no light or nothing,i try to charge but nothing happens,no sync(sory for my engl.)

Ive seen many questions in the Q & A forum about this CWM and figured the best way is to get developers and other main contributors to look at the issues some of the "little people" have about using it. DAF was convenient and easy for all because it was one click for the people who could get that far, and since CWM, there where the 3 versions and this one has yet to really be well touched upon as a full tutorial with the copy to SD not being needed any more. I feel as do many others that a main "sticky" thread be made for it with a few FAQ on this section of the forum so they do not have to search too far away from the main thread they are using and get completely confused.
1. Will doing a backup and changing ROMs using CWM with different partition delete my backup?
2. Will doing a backup KEEP my partition?
3. Is it possible to do a partition from CWM or is the partition need to be carried on a computer?
(this to me seemed to defeat the purpose of CWM with some DEVs making their own partition layouts and not using the main ones that were originally laid out for use, no aim towards DEVs because I know they work hard)
4. If I put multiple ROMs on my SD card do I need to change the partition every time if I want to change them?
5. Is there a way to know which backups are from which ROMs I had used?
(I guess this is asking if they can change the name?)
6. How do I know when to "Wipe Cache Partition"?
I know there is *THIS* thread, however there are surely some differences between the copy of those files and not needing to copy amongst other things to which the "new" people do not understand.
If this is just a bother and hindrance to you all, I understand the deletion of this thread, however it did take quite a while to plan out what to write, and what not to should you choose to do so and I would give the answers, however even I do not know all of them and so I leave this to you all for debate. NO PUBLIC BASHING PLEASE

I said it could be moved or deleted just the questions are not very well maintained in that DEDICATED (? HA) forum there are multiple posts of the same and I felt that since there is a sticky thread here that could answer the forum issue of the DEVELOPED CWM program this should be brought to the attention and as such is a DEV related issue. It can and most likely will be moved, do you have an answer to any of the issues the people asked?

No this will not delete your back up as it is saved on yor SD card when you do the back up.

This I am not really sure of as I am not a dev but I think it does as the backup is just a backup of your settings, personal information, your gmail account associated with your Android, boot data, and any cache data that you have built up.

You can partition your SD card with CWM but I do not think you can do a system portion as CWM is what creats the system portion when you flash it. It creates a partition in the CWM.

Once again I am not a dev (yet) and I am not 100% sure of this. But I would say if the ROMs you have stored on SD card need different portition sizes then yes you will need to change the partition size when you change ROMs. If they require the same partition size then no you do not need to change the partition size.

You should be able to manually go into your SD card with a computer and change the name on the backup file, but I do not know if this will interfer with CWM being able to detect the backup file. So you might want to write down the original full name of the file befor you change it.

As a rule of thumb I would not delete my cache unless I was about to flash a new ROM.
Also check out my guide I wrote in linked in my sig, you might find it useful.

Super beginner, never even used one of these before. Please help...

Ive just recently aquired one of these and I'm trying to factory reset it. I'm afraid to use the erase and deregister cuz I don't want to get locked out if I don't have some certain info or whatever... Is that the best way to make it like you just turned it on for the first time?
Maybe someone can point me to a specific thread that explains how custom recovery boot loaders work on this thing and what not. I'm just not sure where to begin. I'm searching, but I'm seeing stuff like burn cm7 to an sdcard? I could just blindly follow those steps, but I don't wanna brick this thing. Is there a thread that gives a crash course on how things work with this device?
It would be nice to have cm7 on here though. Is it Android to begin with? I've got a rooted modded s4 currently, but this nook looks like it might work a bit differently. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The erase and deregister is the best way to get back to the way it came in the box. Make sure you are connected to wifi when you do it. It will remove it from the prior owners registration. Then you can register it in your name. (You did not say, but I am assuming you got this second hand).
Go to my NC Tips thread linked in my signature to learn a little more about this device. It does not all have to be read, but some sections will help you a lot.
And stock is Android (Froyo, Android 2.2), but heavily modified by B&N.

Will deleting those "999-files" mess up something for my current phone state?
I've spent days configuring apps and stuff and I don't want to loose all my fine tuning.

I started a new thread since I figure few people will read a thread marked as [SOLVED], and also; I've already read through that whole thread, including all the threads it links to, and nowhere does anyone clearly state whether removing the 999-folders will mess something up regarding a phones current state or not. So my question still remains.

Hmm, true, it isn't marked solved. It must've been one of the other threads.
Anyway, I tried the suggestions to turn things of in the settings withing the OS, but they were either already turned off, or not available within the menus.
I don't dare to try the more complicated stuff before I know that it won't screw things up my current OS state for me.
Will deleting the 999-folders change anything other than removing an extra user?

Did you also tried to remove the user with the terminal commands?
As long as you take backups, nothing will be lost.

I didn't dare to use the terminal commands before knowing if something will be screwed up.
I can't make backups because TWRP gives me the ERROR=255 problem this thread is about. :-/
