I rooted my Fascinate, mostly to be able to WiFi tether it for my laptop and the Kindle I'm getting soon.
I've tried WiFi Android Tether app, Barnacle, and Barnacle Legacy.
The Barnacle App would give me an error along the lines of "Can't find eth0", then Barnacle Legacy(previous version) app did not give me an error but the laptop will just say "Connecting" then never actually connect.
I have the same problem with the WiFi Android Tether App where it keeps "Connecting" but never connects.
I don't think it is my laptop because I never have a problem connecting to any other WiFi...
I've looked everywhere but I can't find any help!!

Almost sounds like you're not fully rooted. Do you see the Superuser app in your app list? Also, did these apps ever prompt you to allow root access?

yes
yes to superuser app.
the ADB prog says i am rooted
other root progs like SETCPU work
and the root progs ask for superuser permissions and i can set them
Look in General forum and for confirmed working widow tether. I use widow tether daily on mine. Works great. Have a nice day

Ive tried that exact one, computer wont connect.ive even tried pre12
I've tried quite a few different apps to no avail, but tried pre9 tonight and it appears to be working nicely.
I must be missing something, cause I'm a noob, but what is widow tether & where can I get it? Tried 2 barnacles & 3 wifi tethers with no success.

You need to use the wireless tether 2.0.5 pre9, not the latest version.
That one works 100%.
Newest ones don't. This is already covered somewhere in the stickies.

i am using Pre9. Thats the one I was originally using when the problem occured.
I'm using wireless tether pre11 right not and so far so good. I kept getting an issue where wireless tether would work for a short time (about 1 to 2 MB of data) and then would hang. pre11 is working good so far without this issue. give it s shot. you can always drop back to an older version.
I'm having the same problem, my Vista laptop sees the network and won't connect, my wife's Windows 7 netbook will connect now problem, so I know the phone is working right, it has to be something with Vista 64

Thanks for the pre9 info. I was having issues connecting and it fixed things right up.

I've had no problems with pre11...I've only used it a few times, but I did stream an entire episode on Hulu on my desktop and it worked without a hitch. I am on OSX.
FWIW, I happened to root & installl barnacle last night on my Fascinate. Barnacle worked happily once I made sure that A)Superuser automatically allows barnacle permissions and B) Skip wpa_supplicant was checked. I've only had an hour or two of testing, but no glitches.
Info: SCH-I500[RKAVZW] - i500.04, 2.1-update1, 2.6.29
Barnacle: Encryption: Off Access Control: unchecked, Ch:1 Custom Wifi Ad-hoc: none, Skip wpa_supplicant: checked, pp0, eth0, DHCP: 1200s lease, NAT 32000, 300, 100, 30, 90
I use Easy Tether and it works flawlessly.
Not sure exactly what is going on with your issue...however FWIW:
Any build of Wireless Tether would cut out on me occasionally - it wouldn't drop connection permanently, but rather for several seconds.
I use tethering to play online games that require a constant stream of data. Barnacle Wifi Tether Legacy works flawlessly. Never lose connection.
Are we looking at a fluke kernel issue with the OP's question?
I have tried all of these options and can't get any to work. The only thing that does is the stock hotspot app I reprogrammed from a thread here. How are you getting this to work? Do I need to remove the vzw hotspot app first?

Barnacle (did not try legacy) is also more stable for me than wireless tether pre9/11/12
I got Wireless Tether 2.0.7 because I need infastructure mode to work for my wifi Xoom.
It's not working at all in Gingerbread...takes forever to start, and if it does, always starts with "errors." And it won't show up on my Xoom.
In Froyo, it worked...mostly. After using it once, the phone has to be rebooted, or the wifi tether will cause the phone to freeze.
It had been working fine uptil 2.0.6, but that doesn't have infastructure mode.
Has anyone been successful to get this to work?
Btw I am running Geo's Gingerbread ROM.
I actually just solved this problem on my phone. Goto there Google page and get the newest one. http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_0-pre13.apk&can=2&q=

hey did you get this to work?
I tried all the versions here
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
and from version 2.0.7 up to beta version WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-beta6 *** BETA ***
I cannot get a good transmission from my HTC EVO 4G. When I turn the app on it indicates that the speeds are 10megs but when I use speednet to test the speed I only get less than a meg. Now I turn off wifi tether and speednet takes off superfast. I also tried wired tether and I get awesome speeds. My problems is wifi tethering
Any help please
Hi I just rooted my Arc with GingerBreak, worked really well btw,
Titanium Backup and Cache mate are working fine, busybox is installed. However none of the tethering apps seem to work. Can anyone offer an suggestions?
While we are here, maybe find out which other "root apps" work and don't work?
Barnacle tether seems to work alright now!

i thought we hav default tethering apps on our arc?
What happened with the built-in tethering? It didn't work ?

There a built-in tethering in Gingerbread ... Go to Parameters > wireless parameters and network
I also cannot get any tethering to work, not the in built one or barnacle!
It connects to my laptop fine but as soon as it does the mobile data connection drops and only returns after disabling tethering?!
Neither do I, seems like it's a problem of GigerBreak, Even after un-rooting by using GingerBreak, won't work.
It connects to the Wifi like Karlos G said but can't access to the internet.........
Using 2.3.2.
Also some says HDMI doesn't work after rooting but to me, it works flawlessly
Yeah I tried unrooting but it still doesn't work! Literally as soon as I press to enable tethering I can watch the data connection drop off then as soon as I disable tethering it comes straight back! Really annoying as I use tethering a fair bit...
No issues here. It works fantastic. Even now, I'm posting this via my Arc Wifi network .
I had barnacle working on my X10...all was well tethering with the TF....and now when I fire up Barnacle it says "waiting for wifi to be disabled" and it disables my wifi!
It MIGHT be related to the rom I'm using...I was using a 2.2 rom and now I'm using a 2.1 based rom....
Can someone help?
mine has always turned off the wifi on 2 differant phones
I realize now that it's supposed to disable wifi...but my issue is I guess that Barnacle never really starts...it just sits there at "waiting for wifi to be disabled" and never connects.
And this is even if wifi is disabled.
I just noticed that if I pre-disable my wifi...barnacle just hangs at "starting"
silly question but is your phone rooted.
Okay, so i recently rooted my Intercept so i could remove the crapware. I also tried to tether it so i could use my nook tablet everywhere. I tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
this one. and i tried barnacle. I realize now that one problem was that these apps make ad-hoc nets, and some devices don't see them. I didn't get barnacle working, and the other one worked the first time then got errors every time i tried to start it after. Now i've uninstalled those apps and i can't use my wi-fi normally. The check mark is unchecked in the settings and it says Error below it. I click it on and it doesn't work. Help? Any hints? Did i do something stupid?
Mason
Are you using a rooted ROM?
I've had luck on the Intercept using both Wireless Tether for Root Users and Widgetsoid and adding the widget to the screen with the Wifi Tether Icon.
I've always just done the settings changing the SSID to AndroidAP with open/no security. Using these settings I've had no trouble tethering devices from my TF101 to Windows and Ubuntu laptops.
If you are still having issues, drop me a line and I'll walk you through.
Cheers!
