[Q] Request:SD card Speed Improvement - XPERIA X8 General

In the portal today a script was released to up the cache size of the SD card to improve reading speeds. Unfortunately, the change is reset after reboot. The dev has said that by changing the init.d folder we would be able to make it change the value on boot. Read on at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807
Now my request is that could someone come up with an update.zip that flashes to the recommended size of 2048? I would do it if I knew how.

I can post one, but why do you need an update.zip file when you can use root explorer to do that?
I already use this script and it works flawlessly..

The thing is, it would be easy for others to just flash it, right? I did it by ADB though. Works perfect. Also when you install a new rom you gotta do it all over, it'd be nice to just flash from sd. I have the files. could you give me the script? or best, is there a Update.zip generator out there?
Edit: Never mind. Got it. Actually went and learned the commands. Will post update.zip shortly
Edit2:Script doesn't work.

yes, i've rebooted 2x now to confirm. it stays there. using minicm btw.
edit: go to the start of the your linked thread. 4 files for xrecovery with diff cache size.

i try to get it working but i just cant i dont understand
i have sdcard class 2 minicm please someone help me

as-mario, what is it that you don't understand? Besides, with class 2 SD card you won't even feel the difference, really...

All you need to do is add it to your init.delta.rc inside ramdisk.tar ..
Attached is ramdisk.tar for my CM7RC4, just push it into /system/bin/ to install.
I have class6 Transcend card, write speed did not change (13MB/s), but read speed grew from 12MB/s to 35MB/s after increasing the cache value.

just test your SDcard on computer using h2wtest (if im not mistaken). then if your write speed is around 2 MB/s then its class 2, if 4 then its class 4, if 6 then its class 6, if 10 then its class 10

Did you format, within phone, to FAT32? It looks as though you have experience with builds so I'm sure that you are installing the Android folder on the root of the SD card...make sure that you don't create a folder and then add the build folder to the root folder; it creates a sub and that causes problems.

thank you for answer , i'm not a newbie on Android. this card always was formatted with fat32 on pc , and phone, also with panasonic sd formatte 2.0. Card is working well , 5-6 mb on test with hdd tune. i made him active , bootable , xfat , fat 16, partitioned in 2, changed cluster, tried everything who cross my mind without any succes. No build start. i waitted 2 hour's for data.img to be created but no succes. i tried with version copy pasted from my old card who works, still nothing. i don't know what else to do .
btw, i checked your thread, very nice job.

It might be as simple as the "Serioux" card isn't supported; the only other thing that I know off the top of my head is at the bottom of my thread; I had found a link to the formatting issue and that's where I came up with the idea of formatting within WinMo.

I know that it does take some builds to load as it creates the data.img, especially a larger one; if you opted for the 1gb for instance.
You are using the same build as the other card? And, you loaded the file the same way? Did you do it through USB connect?
Let's see if we can't get this goin'!

I think it might be the card. I know that I've seen class 2 and 4 around working; your "Serioux" card is the only one that I can find, as far as brand, and nothing about it working or not working on HD2, maybe return it and get another brand?
It's definately the card. I bought a wintec class 10 16gb and android wont run hardley at all on it, went and bought a 16gb sandisk class 2 at radioshack and android runs flawless on it. The shame is that the sandisk class 2 tests at class 10 speeds. They have it on Newegg for $34, Get model # SDSDQ-016G-A11M. There are two versions on newegg so make sure you order the right one. You won't be disappointed.
thank u all for support. i will try to get another brand. in this time maybe android will boot from nand
Have you tried formatting your SD card with WinMo? This helped someone a couple of months ago, it's got something to do with a partition index file.

I used to have a similiar problem on some builds here.
Have u tried replacing a builds kernel, say hastarin because that definitely helped me boot into Android. I faced the same issue Aa you too.. which build are u flashing too btw?

Want to optimize my legend

Hi all!
I have a Legend recently rooted and running CyanogenMod. Great experience. Just starting play with and see how works.
My first problem is I put in to much rubbish during the process and just playing with new rom now want to optimize. I already have a 8 gb sd card.
how I should proced to made a clean instalation to be able to optimize as much as better and wich order shoud be done.
I gess to format the sd card and also ram from legend but...
wich is next step?
how many partitions and how bigger?
i would like to run the apks from sd insted of phone.
thanks a lot!
1Gb ext3 should be enough for moving apps too, since alot of apps won't even move, you'd have to install hundreds on the SD card to even get near filling it up.
You could always use Blayo's B.02 rom and use the data2ext to have ALL your /data on the SD card, this supposedly increases performance too.

you can shrink the fat partition and add an ext2 in front using a partition manager.
I have a 500 Mb partition on a 4 Gb card and have about 300 apps installed.
with still a lot of space free.

Yes I know(you told me) What I meant was that there is a shortcut in Rom Manager to partition SD card. Don't know if that's the best procedure, but it worked for me.

Clean install with apps on SD?

So I've got the froyo now and had a problem and had to start over. Before the restart I had saved quit a few apps to my SD Card... clean install don't detect them. Do I need to just format card and reinstall from market or what?
I did a clean install too. Did you use titanium back to save the apps? Thats how I restored all my apps.

No, I moved them to SD in the Settings>Applications>Manage Apps menu. Figured that would do it.
Why would you use apps2sd when link2sd exists?
It is far superior!

My lib files are still linked. but maybe thats the problem with my phone freezing 20 times a day now. IDK. Hopefully an update to the update will come soon cuz Im sick to death of it freezing.
I spent about 2 hours last night trying to get Link2SD to work on my flipside and could not. I followed the guide and set a main FAT32 partition and a secondary ext2 partition and the phone rejected and told me to make teh 2ndary FAT32 so i did that and then the phone rejecting it and said something else it.
Anybody care to explain how exactly they got this working? I tried searching through the main post but thats 100 pages of questions with few answers and I coudln't find anything that helped.
Mine was a hassle the first few times I tried on eclair as well. I just kept changing the size of the partition until finally it worked. I couldnt tell you the exact steps as it was long ago.

Completely reformat your card to fat32, then using partition magic, create the second partition as FAT. Put card in phone, reformat, run Link2SD, and reboot phone.
RESTART Link2SD and go hog wild moving your programs to sd card...
If you backed up ypur card to your pc, copy over the folders to the sd card.
I know reformatting is extra (uneeded?) Steps, but it worked juat fine for my wife's phone. A restart gives her almost 58 megs free...

Tutorial Link2SD/make more Space in Internal Memory with Link2SD for Moto G 3rd 2015

Prerequisites:
1. obviously moto g 2015 3rd gen
2. bootloader unlocked followed by root (search for this in other threads)
3. make backup of your ext sd card as everything will be deleted (mine is 64 gb strontium memory card)
4.card reader (mine is Transcend USB 3.0 Super Speed Multi-Card Reader for SD/SDHC/SDXC/MS/CF Cards)
Steps:
1. switch off your device and take ext sd card out
2. download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition 9.1 on your pc http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
3. Insert your SD card to a card reader and open it on your computer
4. Back up all your files to the computer because partitioning will wipe your data
5. Open Mini Tool in your computer. Locate your SD card (be careful in choosing and make sure not to choose the drive of your computer)
6. Right click and choose Delete
7. Right click on it again and choose Create New. Create “FAT32″ partition (This is where all your media files will go. Be sure to make it bigger than the 2nd part)
8. Select “Create as: PRIMARY”
9. Next, ext4 partition. This is where your apps will go. I suggest a value of 512Mb or 1Gb would be big enough but if you insist you can go as high as 2Gb.
10. Select “Create As: PRIMARY” (make sure that it is both set to primary because it will not work if it is not set to primary)
11. Click the “Apply” button on the top left corner and wait for it to finish the process. Done.
12. Put back your SD card to your phone and switch it on.
13. Download and install Link2sd from Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en
14. Open Link2sd. You will be prompted to choose between ext2, ext3, ext4 and FAT32. Select ext4.
15. It will say mount script created. Reboot your phone now.
16. Open link2sd and if the message doesn’t show up, you succeded.
17. check storage info
18. Go to Link2sd>Settings>check the autolink (to automatically move apps upon installation)
i have link2sd plus version as it allows me to link obb etc
attached some pics for idea
lastly do not held me responsible for any problem as i tried my best to explain everything in detail
if any query feel free to ask and to encourage me for more work hit THANKS :highfive:

Thanks for the guide, used it for my Moto G/4G.
I'm still a bit puzzled by some inner workings of Link2sd though, mainly the fact that the APK part keeps going back to the main memory even though I keep linking it to the external SD. Is anyone else seeing that?

i do not face any problem u mentioned earlier as i have done same exact guide on my moto g 2015 too step by step.try steps mentioned below
1.go to link2sd and open it,if no message pop up than u have created mount scripts right.if any message pop up than recreate mount scripts by taping bar on left side of app than recreate mount script than ext4 than reboot, hopefully u should not see any message after u open app
2.now go to three dots (on extreme right of app) and check storage info (u will be able to see all partitions including the one which u have created of external sd card and check whether it have free space or not)
3.go to settings and check auto link followed tap install location and check automatic
hope above steps solves your problem :fingers-crossed:
Yeah, that's all good. The slight problem is that for some reason the APK part sometimes goes back to the internal memory, at least according to the interface. Check your apps, maybe you'll see the same thing.

Link2sd Plus, yes, latest version, I'm going to check the "auto link" option maybe that will fix what I am seeing.
