Dear Community,
I have been trying to root my Galaxy Tab for few days already (Yes, few days).
I followed all the instructions on the forum and used the z4root which I downloaded from the forum.
The device indicated "rooted" then I installed the Titanium Backup but an error saying "Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again."
Therefore, I downloaded the BusyBox installer from the market and try to install the BusyBox. Now there is an error installing the BusyBox.......
It says "Your phone is rooted, BusyBox was not found!"
below that there is a detailed message in red saying "The application failed, either because your device is not nand unlocked or we were unable to remount. Please use logcat at this time, get it from the market, to send a log to StericDroid."
I have no clue what is wrong now and I cannot find anything about nand unlock for the Galaxy Tab. I needed to do a carrier unlock so bad....
Please help!
Here is my galaxy tab's information:
Model number: GT-P1000
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: P1000XXJID
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 root sep-53 #1
Build number: FROYO.ZHJK1
Thank you very very much!

Do you have the "Superuser" application on your Tab? If so, try running it and check that Titanium is not disallowed.
If you don't have the app, chances are you are not rooted correctly - try SuperOneClickRoot.
If you do have Superuser, and Titanium is allowed, try clicking on "Problems" in Titanium and allow it to install its own version of BusyBox.

Dave

I have the "Superuser" appz installed but under the Apps, there is "No apps in list".
I also tried the Titanium "Problem?" solution before, it doesn't work. It downloaded the Busybox but indicated "installation failed, see web page for troubleshooting steps."
Should I "unroot" the device in z4root before I try the SuperOneClick Root?

It shouldn't make any difference.

I have had the same problem before. Install Busybox from inside of Titanium backup. Click on "Problems? " in the lower right hand corner of Titanium and allow it to install Busybox. Then you must select restart Titanium for the change to take effect. For some reason Titanium does not like the version of Busybox that is found in the market.
Edit: Sorry it looks like you have already tried that. I too recommend rooting again with SuperOneClick.

You could try to root manually if all automated methods fail: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859712
Thanks very much for all the replies!
I will give it a try tonite and post the result later~
Ah....
It doesn't work for me!
Tried the SuperOneClock method and also tried the manual root method.
Both not work for me.....
I am still concern about a "NAND unlock" is needed for my Tab.
I posted the log message from the SuperOneClick here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10373454&posted=1#post10373454
if you use z4 root method be sure you use the permanent root option not the temporary root. busybox,at least on my tab, would not install with only temp root access.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
Yep, I used the "Permanent Root" not the "Temporary Root"
It is rooted by using z4root (that's what it said in the busybox installer) but cannot install Busybox.....
Checked the instructions for the z4root method, it mentioned:
With the absolutely beautiful ADB exploit, titled rageagainstthecage (ratc), absolutely ALL devices can be rooted. This is because it exploits ADB which all devices use. There is an issue though. Some devices have a NAND lock which does not allow you to write to the /system mount. Because of this, you can't copy su, sqlite or busybox to /system/bin.

The above highlighted sentences, probably is the problem which I cannot complete the BusyBox and su installation.....
Please.... does anyone know how to do an NAND unlock for the Galaxy Tab?
Greatly appreciated~

As far as I'm aware, there is no NAND lock on most Galaxy Tabs. That doesn't mean that yours doesn't have a NAND lock, as it may be something "new" that Samsung are rolling out, but it would appear that people having this issue are in a tiny minority. We need to ascertain if there is anything different about your device.

Thanks for your replied, Dave.
Any information I can provide to help ascertain my device's problem?
Since you've tried to root manually using RageAgainstTheCage, I suggest that a step by step description of everything you did, and the results would probably help.

Dave
FWIW, z4root v 1.3 doesn't work for latest tablet anymore. I did it using SuperOneClick then install z4root and root it again w z4root then I was able to install busybox.

I did this and it worked for me with no problems. Was able to install busybox from titanium backup. Hate to ask a dumb question but what now? What does rooting do for my Tab? Sorry I'm a total newbie.

worked a treat
kudos to you man
no need of shell root first. Directly hitting the root also gives permaroot.
And go with PC49IMG process or fastboot flash recovery process for custom recovery. Donot use unrevoked.
First time posting here and sadly I have a problem I need help with.
So I lost root access after the 6.2 update and I haven't been able to root again using Superoneclick root 2.3. I typed adb devices in command prompt and it came up with this:
48F2000600000001 offline
Superoneclick root 2.3 freezes after I try to root. Any ideas?
You can download the update version of SuperOneClick v2.3.1
SuperOneClick v2.3.1

As promised:
Click here to download SuperOneClick v2.3.1
Let’s see if driver installation is a thing of the past now.
You’ll notice the file size has bumped up to 10mb. This is because the driver folder is now included with the latest (at the time of writing) ADB drivers from Google.
Enjoy!
Update: I have a 5mbit upload so at times the download queue may be full. You might have to be a bit patient with my server. If somebody would like to post a download, you can do so in the comments.
Update2: v2.3.1 is up (had to remove testing code that conflicted with XP systems)
Update3: Links are now mapped to a multiupload sharing. (My internet connection has been slowed ridiculously)

Connet your Kindle Fire to your PC with USB line, keep it locked.
Run SuperOneClick v2.3.1
Click "Unroot" Button to unroot your KF.
Then click "Root" Button to reroot your device.
I met the same problem with you and I do this way to resolve it.
Also I install newer version of BusyBox if needed.
Superoneclick freezes instantly once I select root or unroot.
Darnit! superoneclick wont work on 6.2 update...any way to back down to 6.1?
6.3? Didnt know they had another update...I just checked and mine is still on 6.2

Hi
I have upgraded my u8800 from 2.2.1 to the official 2.3.5. Now im trying to root the phone so i can flash a custom ROM. It was rooted before i upgraded it but it seemed to reset after the upgrade. Im trying to use SuperOneClick 2.3.3.0 but after i press root and it says "[+] Killing ADB and restarting as root... enjoy!" and i tryed to reboot the phone still isnt rooted. I installed an app from the marked called root check basic to check if it was rooted but it said it wasnt.
Any help in rooting the phone would be apprecieated(i have no idea if i spelled that right)!
EDIT: Got it working after i installed superuser from the marked before i ran superoneclick.
I cant root either!
SuperOneClick Crashes every time I press Root -.- please any kind of help?
(Ive installed superuser from my phone!)
Framaroot is saying success, but 2ndinit "Cant obatin root permission".
Im lost in this process, which is a part of a giant one. I have no idea how to keep going.
I heard once that my Defy may have another protection which is preventing the rooting. But how do I check it?
Can it be that mt Defy is rooted but I 2ndinit is the problem?
Thanks, You're giving me hope.
Can someone give me directions?
I remember that at the first time 2ndinit said "Success" too. But I couldn't get to the blue light at startup.
Now I can't make 2ndinit install again.
Try using SuperOneClick instead of framaroot
or make sure you use Framaroot 1.8.0 (some later versions seemed not to work for Defy anymore?)

I've tried Superoneclick but it freeze at the second step.
I will try Framaroot 1.8! Thanks for suggesting that!
Yes you have to be patient, it will freeze just for a while when your phone is rebooting
I dont remeber my phone rebooting (Maybe).
But I finally made it as ag.steel suggested. Thank you! Framaroot 1.80 worked Perfectly!
Now I just need to solve the "E:Error executing updater binary [...]" while flashing cm11
