Is there any way to backup the desktop when doing a major upgrade with overcome ROM? A bit sick and tired of always have to recreate my desktop after a Titanium user apps backup.
Titanium Backup still restore all your Sytemdata inclusive Desktop, whats the problem?
When doing a major upgrade only user apps should be backed up. Not system apps. Well I just wantto backup the user accounts and desktop. Can't find that option in Ti backup.

Another problem I have is that my tab is not running stable on 1.4 ghz. Using latest overcome ROM with setCPU. The tab freezes up some time and I have to rebootit to get it started again. 1.2 ghz works just fine.
Thanks for help. I'm a Droid and tab noob.

With Titanium, you have the option to backup and restore just the data associated with system apps.
For example, there's a batch job that backs up all user apps and system data.
Sometimes, restoring system data doesn't work too well, due to changes in data structures, but generally it works ok.

Chances are you are overclocking your CPU beyond its capability. Remember that just because someone elses CPU can reach 1.4ghz doesn't mean than yours will.

Have you tried Performance setting? Tab froze while screen was off at Conservative 1400. Now I use Performance and no freezing so far.
Thanks for all your input. I will try it !

So I really like Titanium Backup, but my question is... when you restore backed up apps, is there a way for them to auto install without having to click "install" and "done" for each and every single app you backed up? I have a lotta apps and it gets annoying when I restore. Thanks
Batch options? its under Backup/Restore hit menu soft key..
If I am not mistaken, if you have the paid for version, you can do it in batch mode, which I am assuming doesn't prompt you for each app.
Paid version does that, well worth the money.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I'm pretty sure even the free version does batch mode, how else would you back up all your apps at once? The paid version adds Dropbox sync functionality and is a bit faster, worth the money even without these extra features.
Paid version. Worth the chedder.
SyndicateROM v1.0.2 + Xtreme kernel v1.2.0 + Emotionless beast final = Great functionality, Exceptional performance, and Sweet eye candy.
Just to note: beware Titanium Backup. We've found it causes more problems than it solves, especially when restoring apps and data.

"we've"? Ive never had an issue as long as you don't restore stock apps. Or apps already part of the rom.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
The paid and free apps both do batch mode restores, but in the free app you have to click yes between each app. The paid app allows to start the restore and walk away while it finishes. Absolutely worth the price if you are trying our a lot of different roms every day. I've encountered zero issues with Titanium Backup...zero!

u can import saved data in clockworkmod and that will import your apps from before make sure u do backup first I tested and works every time

Sorry for the confusion, when I use the collective "we" I'm speaking for ACS. The bugs usually crop up when one takes a backup from one ROM and restores it on another (dig through the SyndicateROM thread and you'll see several instances), but YMMV. We (ACS) don't recommend it for moving APKs between ROMs.
From my experience I just install the apks manually and then restore data via Titanium..as long as I'm using the Titanium's busy box it never failed once for restoring data.
As for clockworkmod restore method..I had it FC my Touchwiz going from DJ29 to DK17 and I was not using a custom theme or anything...
I think its all in what option you use to restore your apps and data.I find that using restore apps and all system data causes problems when going from rom to rom but if you use restore apps and data there are no problems with restoring your apps this is how I do it and have never had any problems.
Me too, I've never got MBP to complete sucessfully. So I've been using Titanium Backup, so far with no known problems.

No problems here, maybe try uninstalling TB and reinstalling then trying the pro key again. Silly question, you are rooted right?
Yup, rooted to the foolest! And, yup, I tried the uninstalling and reinstalling thing and still... no glory! Guess i'll play around with it till it kicks in. I just don't understand it. Thanks anyway

Visit the Titanium Backup official site and in particular the wiki.
The feature I use most on TB is the freeze feature. It is also useful to backup settings for programs, like K9 mail, that do not have a backup feature built in.
Useful info. Marv... Thanks.

When you do the root or over clock flash does it erase everything (my settings, apps etc.)?
Mike
I don't know much about all this but i do know:
Rooting = no
Over clocking is what I don't know about.

Unlocking bootloader will erase everything. You have to do this before you can root. As for rooting and overclocking itself no.

Yes and no. it runs but you can't backup anything. After restoring something it works until you reboot, then it will stop working. When you do a restore it creates a second folder, so I'm assuming after the reboot the link gets broken.

OK, now that my heart has calmed down, I have another question.
I have rooted my Xoom (3g/4g/wifi), and have installed all the usual apps for rooted devices, including "Droid Overclock".
My problem is that I have just the initial understanding of over/under clocking (had my DX overclocked). In the app, it says as follows:
Temp: 89 Slot1: 216MHz
Max Freq: 1000MHz Slot2: 312 MHz
Current Freq: 216 MHz Slot3: 456 MHz
Min Freq: 216 MHz
Governor: Interface
Module Version: N/A
Profile: Disabled
Is there a way that this can become better? I'd like to get it as high as possible without it becoming unstable.
Hi all, encouraged by all the positive comments about JPK I decided to go on and install it.
All went well, rooted without trouble then went back to the stock kernel. I restored all the apps and system data with Titanium Backup and suddenly the process com.android.systemui (the top taskbar) crashed. I rebooted the phone but the error stayed.
I tried reflashing but this time I installed the apps from scratch and used Titanium to restore the apps data, after that the system responded very stable until an hour ago when the com.android.systemui error and crash appeared again.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any fixes?
I was on JPY before, I guess I'll try JS8 or go back to JPY
Thanks

never restore system data unless whatever ur running is the same thing you were running when you did the backup.
I absolutely agree with you. That's why I flashed again with no system data restore. But the process crashed once more.
Thanks for your input Runedrune
Any other thoughts?

Yes, everything but the (obviously) external sd card.
The only thing I didn't do was repartition. Do you think that could fix it?

Try repartition. I did with 512 pit and no problems installed this way on 6 phones.

Best thing for contacts is to sync with Google. As soon as you sign in to market after wiping and flashing things all contacts are restored. Clean and simple and always on hand if you lose your phone.

I've had the same issues with TB, i used it in the beginning. But now i just keep a list of have-to-have apps and i sync my calendar & contacts with google.
I'm also running on 2.3.3, it runs much faster and smoother than 2.2, some lags but a lot less then stock 2.2.

And will this include wifi and apn settings?
Thanks again

As far as i know, but i could be wrong, you can only sync calendar & contacts via Google. So settings of your phone won't be backed up.
Success!! Thank you all for your suggestions. Gingerbread works smoothly now. Working through the first battery depleting cycles now, time will tell.
Sadly my car home app from samsung for the vibrant car dock doesn't work anymore. It does trigger car mode but it won't play the music through the dock's line out nor keep the screen on. Anyone else experienced this?
Maybe wait for a Gingerbread supported version of the app?
Thanks once more

So after upgrading from Nexus One to Nexus S, I expected all of my Nexus One apps to be automatically restored from google account on Nexus S. But it's not happening. Only 25 out of 100+ apps get restored.
On Nexus One I did wipes multiple times and all apps would restore automatically. Why is it not happening after upgrade to Nexus S?
Under my market account all N1 apps are listed. Nexus One is running CM7. On Nexus S I tried both stock and CM7 and it makes no difference to the restore outcome.
I didnt even know apps would restore.until i updated to 2.3.3 but updating to 2.3.4 didnt auto instal the apps, sadly.any wat to turn this on??

Almost all of the 100+ apps were installed on the old phone via official android market. They all are listed under my market account. But only small subset of them gets automatically reinstalled on a new phone.
The key difference here is that I want them restored on a new phone. When reflashing on the old phone, all 100+ apps get restored without any problems.

It can be turned on/off in the Settings > Privacy -> Back up my data. Also, when first time booting after wipe, the setup wizard shows dialog where this backup/restore can be disabled (it's enabled by default).
I like the feature.. Makes flashing roms cake..
What Google should do though is let you choose WHEN that restore happens and give you the option to start it manually. Coming from a fresh rom it starts the restore process on 3G service. Then you have to rush to flip on Wifi so you're not trying to download 43 apps on Sprints dialup 3G service so a few will be cut out during the transition from 3G to Wifi..
Still beats the crap out of the old way of restoring your apps.
Yeah, there should be google backup/restore native app that gives more control to the user on what and when to backup/restore.
Even better, the web market account should allow to select multiple apps and then send them to the device. Right now this is possible only for one app at a time.
Titanium ftw

The same thing happens on my phone. I disabled it and just use Titanium Backup because the google backup was too unpredictable..
For rooted users, titanium is a good solution. But it sucks that for the non-rooted ones, the feature that is part of the OS behaves so unpredictably.
