If I root my nc will i be able to use the nook app to read magazines? It says in the market the app supports magazines on high res tablets. Any help would be greatly apprecitated.
Yes it will. The latest Nook udate included this feature. I believe the only thing the Nook app can't do that the native application can is "Read to me".
Nook App Problems
I recently had a friend help me mod my NC, and one of the first things I did was download the Nook for Android app and try to log in to my Nook books account. My friend was able to log into his account and read a magazine on his nook, however when I log in I have only 11 books in my library and none of my magazines. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app a couple times. I've also tried signing out and signing back into the program but it only retrieves the same 11 books. I'm really pissed that this isn't working, I really bought the NC as an eReader and was pleasantly surprised to find out about this mod. If it can't do this simple task I might just reset it back to the standard NC. I like the things this mod has opened up and I hope it works out but I really just want to read my books now and I can't.
I'm a noob when it comes to this kind of stuff and I need some kind of step by step instructions when it comes to troubleshooting things.
Thanks for all your help.
Sam
I rooted my NC while it was running 1.2 with manual nooter 4.5.6. Everything went fine and I got it all up and running rather easily. THEN, B&N automatically updated with their 1.4.1 version. It hijacked my "n" button to default to stock home rather than Zeam launcher, made a few Android apps useless (Amazon Mobile, but Kindle and Market work fine). The B&N 1.4.1 stock software was good with access to Netflix and other new apps, and it all worked fine, but I still needed the full Android experience and couldn't get back to it thru the Nook software, so I re-rooted with the same Manual Nooter process. Since the re-root, almost everything is fine, except I've suddenly lost the ability to download anything from B&N in stock area. Click on a book or magazine to download and it brings up the barber's pole status bar but just sits there...nothing every downloads. Can still shop, browse, read pre-downloaded samples, etc...just can't download anything new, including apps from the Nook Market.
Everything else works well, including Amazon Kindle app...but would be nice to still have access to B&N stock stuff running next to MN. Can anyone guide me as to what might be blocking the downloads? Thank you... Eric the Noob
I'm afraid that's the state of things with v1.4.1 for the time being. To be safe, you should use one of the methods for blocking automatic updates, or something similar may happen after each release. With any luck, a work-around will be identified for v1.4.1 any day now. In the meantime, you probably need to revert to v1.3 and block updates.
Thanks
Strange. Now I downloaded the Netflix app through Amazon App market and functionality works (it never did before, would just get hung up on Netflix splash screen). Oh well. Not being able to download stuff in B&N store isn't a big deal. Small price to pay for having full Android. I can wait. Thank you.
have you tried downloading from your laptop/desktop and then when you turn on the nook seeing if its in your library or nook app location?
Hi I'm new to the forums. I have a rooted Nook Color with CM7 (v.7.2). I am currently using Aldiko to read ePub books but would like a few more options. I remember when I rooted my Nook before it still had the Nook Book reader that was built into the original OS. It had a lot more options or presets like fonts and paper background. Does anyone know or can point me in the right direction to get this app on my CM7 Nook.
I have looked on the net for a while to no avail. I could find the Nook App which is B&N version of Kindle but it's not available in the UK.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
There is no option to run the stock app under CM7. The Nook app in the Android Market is the only option. Also, the market app is not a B&N version of the Kindle. They are completely separate apps in the market. Is this what you want then? http://www.mediafire.com/?wr4w53d735rb0w4
If not, just google Nook android reader 3.0.1.10 apk
Hi thanks for the quick reply. I downloaded the apk for the nook reader 3.0.1.10. Not sure if this is what I'm after (haven't checked as I need an internet connection to log in first of all on the app). It was the stock book reader that was on the Nook menu on the stock Nook 1.0.
I will try the app you suggested and report back once I connect to Wifi. Maybe B&N have incorporated the features I want in their app on market.
Do you know off hand if it can open your own ePub books and other formats (i.e. books you've not bought/got through the B&N store?
Hello all,
I know this has been discussed a lot but I can't seem to find a clear and final answer and I'm confused about one or two things. I have multiple magazine subscriptions that I can read just fine with the stock 1.4.1 NC software. I am currently running a CM9 nightly and would completely abandon the stock software on the emmc if I could get my magazines to work on the Nook Android App, but I cannot.
Has anyone found a fix for this? I have hear about Aldiko and I downloaded the app, but I am not sure how to proceed from there. Where are my magazines stored? Can Aldiko read them? I'm confused.
If anyone has any advice or a workaround I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
It is not hard to do the only challenge is that the magazine names are not given. Just use file manager to look in the B&N Downloads/Magazines on the nook hard drive (emmc/B&N Downloads/Magazines) click on the file and choose Aldiko to complete action.
As I said the problem is the magazine names are not there just file names which are numbers. I do not have a work around for that but at least I did not have to mess with DRM.
Thanks but I just checked in that folder and it was empty. Any idea why?

A bit off topic but not really...
I've been using the Zinio app for all of my magazines on all of my devices (android, apple, pc). I love it since it let's me read my mags on any device I may be using at the moment.
I looked into Zinio but the difference is that I get my Nook magazines free if I also have the print subscription, which Zinio does not offer. I would really love to read my nook magazines on CM...
Hey,
It depends on the magazine. Download the nook app, don't know if it works on CM9, and try to access the books from the nook app. Wired magazine did not work for me but Everyday Food did. YMMV.
I get Analog and Asimov's, and they work very well on my CM9 NC with the Nook app. These mags changed the format this month to something called "Article View™", but I haven't decided whether I like it or not. I've been using Aldiko for most reading, however, much more presentation control.
Download the Nook app from B&N while running CM7 or 9 and re-download the stuff you've purchased. What problems are you running into?

Go to the B&N site and look up each magazine. If it works on Nook for Android it will say so. If it only shows Nook Color & Nook Tablet you are out of luck.
Thank you everyone for your help. The magazines I have are tablet/color only so they won't work. I have EW and the New Yorker through Next Issue and I actually just got Wired magazine by finding the Kindle Fire Wired apk and installing it on my CM9 Nook, works pretty well (setup was a pain in the ass though).
my nook, which was rooted, must have reset itself sometime, it was on the 'choose a language' screen after turning it on. after that screen it asks for a wifi network, then it says 'registering' and gives me an error. i have called b&n to deregister, but it still happens. what gets me is the shortened setup process. is it bricked? what can i do?
There are several articles on the internet that indicates how to use a Nook Simple touch without registering. One such article can be found here ...

You don't say how you rooted it but here are some possibilities:
1. If you used NookManager and have a backup, restore it. For the device to spontaneously do a factory reset it must have had some serious irritant in the system (or a random quantum bug...)
2. If you don't have a backup and can access the apps, you can try running DeviceRegistrator. Or, you can try using the Settings app to deregister (and erase...) the device
3. If neither of the above, your best bet may be to use NookManager to invoke a factory reset and then start the whole process all over again. Not sure about the order of operations on registering vs. rooting with Nook Manager. Some rooting methods require registering before rooting. In any case, not registering your NST is reported to lead to significant battery drain, so it would be good to get it done.
4. If you reset and re-root with Nook Manager, make a backup. Backup early and often. Did I mention to make frequent backups? Nook Manager can only hold one backup on the SD card but if you connect your NST to your PC via USB while Nook Manager is running you can copy the backup to your PC. I generally keep the last 3, with short test file descriptions, just in case.
5. If/when it's all resolved, make a backup.......

Failure to complete boot up 8 consecutive times will trigger recovery & factory reset.
Since May 31st 2016 B&N are no longer supporting Simple Touch. It appears that registration is no longer possible so do not reset your machine - it will become obsolete and unusable.
Don't know how B&N get away with this. Don't consumers have rights in the USA

You sure about that? Where is this information from? I can still see/access books in my account online and "content" (what to read next, etc.) continues to populate my B&N homescreen. Stranger decisions have been made, but cutting off any revenue source when you're always running in the red or near-red seems pretty foolish.

Well, I asked B&N by email how to register my Nook Simple Touch bought recently since it just comes up with " an error page . . . . Contact B&N" as described at the top of this thread.
The reply from B&N customer service : " After May 31, 2016, you will not be able to download your NOOK digital content from NOOK. . . . . . . . Please note: After May 31, 2016, there will no longer be an option to sign into your account on NOOK devices and apps, and you will not be able to synchronize your NOOK Library from your NOOK device or NOOK Reading App.
Since the NOOK was purchased from eBay, please contact the seller for a possible return of your funds. Sincerely, . . . . . " . This answer may be specific to the UK where I am; it appears B&N gave notice that they are completely withdrawing from the UK market.
They have partnered with a UK suppermarket to continue providing books but these must be sideloaded via PC onto the NOOK ST.
That is why I consider resetting your Nook makes it worthless? I would love to be proved wrong.

Ah....so you're in the UK.
Yep. B&N pulled up stakes there, but not here in the U.S. (yet) so the OP has everything to gain in a reset IF the issue cannot be otherwise resolved. (unless the OP is also in the UK....)
I had a similar problem. What worked was using Nook Manager, rooting and then selecting "disable B&N apps" - no registration required. (Also, no Reader, and it was not possible to install Google Apps, but you can still install Cool Reader or FBReader or Moon Reader or whatever)

So when you did that, did you experience excessive battery drain like that described by those who use the "skip OOBE" trick?
Not really the same but I'm in the UK and had the bright idea or resetting my ST back to factory settings. I received the same message about not being able to register anymore and to contact B&N - so I just reflashed my Nook Manager backup and completely ignore B&N. I'm 'rockin' the newer glowlight plus now so this is just my backup device now. Using PageTurner on the ST I got around a week between charges, but I did read a bit more than 30 minutes a day!

If you live in the UK, Nook is no longer supported, so you have no way to access your defunct Nook account. All books were transferred to Sainsbury's Entertainment on Demand. Existing books are still available to read, but if any books had not been downloaded from Nook before 31st May, they are no longer accessible.

So I've learned. XDA member @the_alternate has come up with a workaround that involves reflashing the NST with a US version.
If you have/can open a US account with B&N, then you can complete registration with the altered device, root it, etc.
