Xperia X10 Unlock? - XPERIA X10 General

Hi everyone,
Is debranding the same as unlocking. In other words, say I put on generic firmware, will this allow me to use my phone with other providers.
If not, is there an unlock method that would allow me to switch away from my original cellular provider?

Nub question

Sorry if this is asked constantly, i tried searching and couldn't see any threads about it.
Basically what i'm wanting to know is if it's possible to unlock a phone that's still locked to a specific carrier (eg, optus or telstra if you're in australia). is this what CID unlocking is?
If so, then i guess i can grab a hermes / jasjam from ebay that's selling for less because it's carrier locked, unlock it, and use it with my current sim card?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
You're definately new with a question like that
Basically CID unlocking allows you to flash a ROM from any carrier and use it.
SIM unlocking allows you to use any SIM card with your existing (or any other) ROM.
If all you want to do is use a stock phone with any carrier I suggest you use POF's CID and SIM unlocker http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SimUnlock.
If you want to get better ROMS you'll need to do a whole pile more reading, and before flashing anything else start with Olipro's Hard-SPL 2.10 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722 and Mrvanx's Upgrade Guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462.
Other useful upgrade info can be found in this sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295751

so all i'd need to do, assuming i keep the stock rom, is to sim unlock it?
Yep, if you SIM unlock you can use the phone as supplied but with any carriers SIM card.
Oh yes, welcome to XDA-developers - I think if you read a bit more you will realise the benefits of the cooked ROMs here and later want to upgrade - it's highly addictive

One further bit of advice if buying one of these phones from ebay - ask the seller for a picture of the phone when switched on so you can check it has a radio signal - also get him to confirm that it doesn't display NO GSM on the bottom right when it is booting. The NO GSM indicates a brick which may or may not be fixable by the tools we have here.

cheers for the reply
at the moment i've got an imate k-jam, and have been reading up about cooked roms etc, but didn't realise exactly what the unlocking involved (except that it let you play with the roms).

HTC Hero Orange unlock help needed

Hi
Im new to this forum as this is my first post in this forum.
I recently purchased a HTC Hero phone in ebay locked to Orange UK. I still didnt receive the phone yet. and I have a small doubt in unlocking.
I heard that orange users are having issues in unlocking Orange Hero.
Saw that i need to update the firmware to 2.73.61.66 inorder to unlock the HTC Hero.
My doubt is do i need an Orange sim inorder to update the firmware or without a sim will I be able to unlock the phone. because i live in Sri Lanka and i dont have a sprage orange sim.
No no, don't worry, you will be fine to unlock and install custom ROMs without an Orange SIM.

thanks for the reply
but can you mention how to do that without a orange sim?
cz when comes to android im a complete noob and this is my 1st android OS phone.
You dont need any SIM card to be able to flash custom ROMs. And to be able to input a network unlock code you just need a non-orange SIM if the phone is locked to orange.

Flash with simlock

Is it possible to flash to android, with a simlock.
Or is it possible to remove simlock, free? (i read something about hard spl?)
If it's possible, and i can just buy a vodafone simcard to make it work(it's a vodafone nl simlock) I would be pleased too.
Many thanks in advance!

no,buy an unlock code online or ask the network operator it came from. Simlock is completely unconnected to roms and flashing and hspl.

So, (the simlock is vodafone) If I buy a vodafone simcard, and flash the hd2 to android, I can use him like all android users do
Another quick question, is it also possible to root?

Hi,
Most ROMS are already rooted.

[Q] Unlocked phone remains unlocked ?

I just got an unlocked focus that was once AT&T, but I will be using it on Telus. I was wondering, if I update it to mango unofficially, will it stay unlocked ?
Also, is there any news on official mango updates ?

For updating/unlocked, check my answer here
For Mango there are only rumors, indicating Mid September.
I tried entering *#7465625#, and everything is disabled except network lock. Does that mean it's still locked ? I don't have a non-att sim to try yet

Yes, it's still locked. Can you try and toggle it disabled?
You can get a cheap unlock on ebay nowadays, for a few bucks.
Gonna reuse this topic:
Phone works, but MMS doesn't. I just get the notification that I received an MMS, but it won't open, and I also can't send it
How would I dev unlock ? I've ooked, the answer always seems to be "go do a search"

If you're not on 7004/7008 then you need to re-flash a rom from here and do the Chevron unlock.
There is no unlock post 7008 (NoDo or Mango) except for developer unlock (paid).
After you flashed 7004 and unlocked, update to NoDo, install SMS xap (diagprovxml) and try to update to Mango, if the carrier has released it specifically for your phone. That's for short, but it's actually quite complicated.
Or read this

That's a typical probelm for unlocked phone used in another carrier because there is no easy way to manually configure MMS on a new carrier on WP7. WP7 relies on Automatic Device Configuration by the carrier network or pre-defined configuration on the handset.
But Samsung has a Network tool app you can download from marketplace. If your carrier is on the list, you can use the tool to switch the network profile so that your MMS will work.
Network tool only shows ATT
As for dev unlocking, it, along with everything else, will not affect my carrier unlock ever, is that correct ?
Looking at the dev unlock stuff, how do I flash it back to 7004 / 7008 ? Can't find an option in Zune
Thanks

Flash a 7004 rom from here.
Unlocking (Chevron or developer) is the ability to sideload applications. Doesn't affect your carrier (un)lock.

unlock trophy verizon

Hello, i just bought a verizon htc trophy and i live in Peru, does someone knows a website where i could unlock free?
also, i read when i flash the phone to a custom ROM the phone free it selfs?
To carrier unlock it, you can call Verizon and ask them to unlock the SIM for international travel, but no guarantees.
To developer unlock or full unlock (using either WP SDK for the first or the DFT HSPL tool) the Trophy you need to follow the various tutorials out there.

They have a number for peru.
0-800-50010
If that doesn't work, just use the live chat at VerizonWireless.com

To have the sim unlock you have to call verizon. There isn't any other way to unlock it unless you pick up an aftermarket sim, which I can't help you with. (I don't know, nor know if they are legal in the US.) They might be able to unlock it depending on how long the last owner had it on their plan.
Besides, its a good PDA. Flash the Norkser 8858 rom and follow the steps for CAB updates in the WP7 Development and Hacking forum.

That not quite how windows phones work. Flashing a different rom, only flashes the OS, not the stuff that directly interacts with the Hardware, e.g. the Radio driver. There is only three radios for the Verizon Trophy and they are all from Verizon, so there isn't much to do. The Radio is what controls the SIM locking, and no one has tried decompiling it, afaik. I'm afraid that you either have to contact the last owner or call verizon. Not much more I can do.
You can try and see if its been already unlocked by inserting your SIM, but chances are that it will prompt you for an unlock code. You can get that from various sites online and pay, or try Verizon for free.
