I was wondering if anyone is aware if the FPS will be capped at 32 in the official 2.3.3 or if the limit will be lifted? Does the arc have a cap?
Seems that we'll have to wait and see, but I sure hope not.
I have seen some videos running quadrant tests and it's FPS are higher than our 30 cap so I hope they removed the cap or at least raise it to 60FPS.
Really?
On Gingerbread is it only capable 32fps ??? But somebody know if zoom feature run in this version? 'cuz in Cyanogem 2.2 I don't have zoom

I may be wrong here but i think we have a cap cuz our UXP, things like the background in settings, calc, etc. it lowers performance and little things like that cause us to be capped so even if we were at 60 it doesnt constantly lag trying to keep up :$ just my opinion...
totally wrong i use zkernel and i have 49-56 fps on my phone
If there's fps cap just wait for z he will uncapp it (i hope)
Yep, with zkernel the 32fps crap is gone, and the X10 feels much more responsive than with the stock kernel. Oh and with zkernel the battery lasts much longer too. So all this 32fps cap does is making the phone more laggy and ****ty than other comparable devices like the desire o galaxy s1.
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
Even if we use a kernel with uncapped FPS, we only get up to 56-58 FPS. Never reaching 60 FPS, this is simply the limit of the LCD. SE capped it to 32 FPS so that no damage would be done to the LCD (not like there's any).
Just as a reminder, the X10 uses old hardware.

Am I the only one for whom that is a deal breaker? I'm using a 2.1 Sense ROM with the FPS unlocked. Whatever Froyo brings as a benefit, it can't be worth going back down to 25fps, can it? Not a troll thread (I don't think), but just wondering why so many people are willing to sacrifice their FPS kernel to upgrade to 2.2?
Cause in the scheme of things its not really a big deal to most people. Froyo is very fast on this phone, games and movies run fine, so the 25fps is not an issue... It's nice you have your standards and all but your missing out.
FPS has never been an issue for me. I am an hour or so into froyo...I like the responsiveness.
...
because nothing that i do on a day 2 day basis does this matter to me. Yes it would be nice but the over performance increase by far outweighs that for me.
Because FPS isn't what this phone or any phone is all about. I would be willing to bet that over 90% of the users out there would not care about FPS or know what FPS stands for.
The FPS issue is a non issue to the majority. The Froyo update is smooth, the battery lasts much better than Stock 2.1 and its faster.
If you feel that the FPS henders you ability to use Froyo 2.2 then by all means stick with 2.1 with the OC/FPS kernels and wait until someone comes out with a "fix".
I will enjoy the update. I have NOVA, Golf and Asphalt by gameloft loaded and they work great. I am not a gamer just wanted to try them out. The graphics are amazing and I have not had any issues with lag or refresh.
I feel ya man..Im back on Fresh 1.0.1 with 2.1 because of this very reason. You can apply the froyo FPS fix to 2.2 right now but it breaks the rear camera..So for me its a combonation of Sluggish FPS or cameras and with that i decided to just go back to 2.1..
Now I must wait untill the official Kernal drops for things to get fixed again..I've gotten used to how snappy the phone is when running at a higher frame rate that even stock Froyo seems sluggish still..But most people dont play games and happy with the scrolling between home pages they way they are...
Its more of a personal preference thing when it comes to this stuff man.I personally dont expect a good Froyo Sense rom with FPS fixed untill september-October when hopefully the official Kernal will be out.Till then I will be on 2.1.
Simply put.. most of us dont care. It's definitely not that big of a deal to me. A few thousands of a second difference...
Yeah, me too. I appreciate all the other responses to my question, though. I am really surprised that nobody else cares about the frames per second. That is a must for me. It makes the fun much more fun to use because everything is so smooth. Oh well. I'll just keep waiting till the end of the year. Or else I'll break my camera. But then I won't be able to show people how cool Layar is!

I never see the effects of 30 fps cap on real world applications. All my 2D games runs fine. I don't play 3D games on Evo, and I doubt the Adreno GPU can output 30+ fps on a First Person Shooter anyways.
I don't get it, where is the 30fps cap visible?
I don't notice it dropping, but I've never applied an FPS fix either.
You won't notice it in the browser, or 90% of the apps that I use. I guess it could be visible in games and maybe videos? But I've never watched a video on the phone, and I haven't found many games worthwhile.

I understand where you're coming from man, I am very sensitive to FPS I guess, due to PC gaming. More FPS is ALWAYS better, but I'm curious to try FroYo and see how it feels. I think I'll be willing to wait a bit for the FPS fix to come, if not I can always restore my fresh backup.

Go watch some videos of Nova. Runs very smooth.
PSX emulator with a 30FPS cap kind of sucks too.
The fps cap is irrelevant.
The human eye cant see at >30 fps soo any increase in speed or what not u claim to get at higher fps is all just imagined in your head
I can definitely see the difference between the two different levels of FPS (capped and uncapped) and so when the first froyo roms came out and there was no fps fix for them, i held off.
When CM6 came out and it had the fix built in, i jumped in and was never happier. I mostly see the difference when scrolling, on its own at the capped speed it might look fine, but when its uncapped, especially next to my iphone 4, the difference is readily apparent.
With that said, i think people are jumping on the official 2.2 rom because they are satisfied with the stock experience. There are definitely two camps when it comes to phones, those that mod and those who don't, neither side tends to understand what the other side does.

If you are on 2.1 still apply the FPS ''Fix'' and simply scroll through your home pages and tell me you dont see a difference...
The FPS fix for me has really nothing to do with games. The games i ran when i was useing froyo seemed perfectly fine but screen responsiveness was purely night and day.Froyo seems anciently slow once you've gotten used to how fast the ''fix''on 2.1 is.
And on another note im sick of the the human eye cant see the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS replys...You freaking sound like you work for HTC and were the main person in charge of those canned email responses we were all getting...I guess all these 60Hz-120Hz TVs are all just a sales gimmick.
Funny, when I first heard about all this FPS debate I couldn't understand how it could make any difference.
I have since installed CM6 and am getting average of 55fps. There is no way I'll go back. To those that say there is no difference, I have to imagine you haven't experienced it. Everything in the UI moves without stutter and touch response is spot on. This is much more than just a perceived difference. Makes the phone seem 'snappier'

Try to play an FPS at 30 fps, then 60fps, then 100 fps, and if you can't see the difference, then congrats, you don't have to worry about things like these and going through the trouble of rooting and flashing kernels or new roms to uncap the phone.
At first I was apprehensive about it too, but eventually I just flash Fresh 3.0 and since then I've gotten used to 30FPS again. That's not to say I'm not anxiously awaiting an FPS fix to come out for Froyo though!

Agreed. Anyone who says such thing shows just how ignorant they are. The human eye can see well over 100fps. To say that the human eye can't see beyond 30fps is an absolute joke. Download this video file, open with DivX and then come back here and tell us that again...Yeah.

2000+ score ?
how that possible ? i mean its almost 4 times what we get in quadrant
how is this possible ?
can CM6 can bring this much performance ? does the screensize have anythign to do with it ? as screen will take much memory for the projection of the image and other things .. ours is 4" .. so does that also play ?

Yup.
I can just imagine the X10,if its at 2.1 already performing as fast as Galaxy S,then the X10 at 2.2 should go like light-speed as 2.2 improves performance from 100-500% XD
Its all about full root and 2.2. Heck even the HD2, a WIN Mobile phone, running Vanilla Android from the sd card is pulling a score over 1800! This phone is still a real contender.... we just need our devs to crack the bootloader and throw us some custom Roms. Waiting to donate guys, keep up the good/hard work. Cheers.

Simple answer Yes. This is my best phone yet.
just made the same switch, getting mine later today or tomorrow.. hope its not "android" lagging as engadget writes
anyone who says that this phone lags is a jack*ss. If you run a quadrant benchmark on the stock phone you get marks of around 2000 which beats a nexus one by around 600. I use the android revolution rom and get a score of around 2500. On linpack i get 75 megaflops. The "lagging" problem is solved by switching the usb debugging option on. This phone rocks!! With an adreno 205 graphics unit, 1 ghz processor(can be overclocked upto 1.53 ghz --- buzzoc) and 768 mb of ram..its the fastest phone on the market today
Yes, the hardware is top of the line on the DHD, but still im afraid of the OS, engadget (known Apple fans) wrote about the Naxus S -"touch response and general framerate on everything seems to be cranked closer to the vicinity of the iPhone 4....-with little of that Android-lag we've seen on earlier devices".
But after seeing some youtube clips on the DHD and not noticing any lagg what so ever, i ordered mine and hope that engadget just doesnt like Android in their reviews

there is a bug called the init bug causing the lag, all you need to do is enable usb debugging mode from the development menu and it will go away for good, also animated live wallpaper are known to slow things down a notch, so leave that off
all android froyo phones after few days of usage might drop speed so when this happens all you need is to make a restart and it will be very fast again, the reboot takes a moment, also you should know this speed drop is not reflected inside the apps, only the main interface and it only happens when you've been using the phone heavily for a couple of days without a restart
gingerbread is said to have an app garbish cleaning mechanism that should hopefully fix this issue, HTC updated/updating its desire, legend and wildfire to froyo, so you should expect their flagship DHD to get the gingerbread update first
otherwise phone is blazing fast, fastest android phone on the block, equal or faster than the nexus S (the 2nd gen snapdragon is very optimized plus higher IO and more RAM, highly overclockable)
the GPU is also fast in theory the nexus S should be faster but all test are showing better results from the DHD's adreno 205 GPU, it runs quake 2 at 45-60fps, neocore at 58FPS, nenamark at 42FPS

Try it without rooting first to see if you really need the DHD rooted. I have rooted mine but to be honest I still haven't done anything that needs root access. The OS gives you the opportunity to install non-market apps, so unless you want a custom ROM or overclocking, it makes little sense to root it. And if you decide to do it anyway, there are some good step-by-step guides in the development section on how to do it safely.
Anyway - enjoy your new phone! I know I do

It's the design. The point in this is to keep it from scratching the screen while put upside-down. And if you install a screen protector, it lies completely inside that space, so it's leveled with the heightened "lip".

is there a way how to speed up the gingerbread on 3d gaming like on froyo?
in froyo my NFS Shift is like 55 - 60 fps but in gingerbread its just around 30 - 40 fps..
same on Quadrant in 3d rendering the red and blue dna like rolling figure is 49 - 50 fps in FROYO but in gingerbread it wont pass 30 fps
any tweaks on how to boost 3d rendering speed?
First of all, wrong section
Froyo indeed had better hardware acceleration than gb, and the kernel was also a lot better, Samsung rushed gb and messed things, but does it really affect you, the human eye can see @ ~30fps max, so does it matter?
honestly im seeing the difference.. 30fps is like lagging/stuttering to my naked eye..
i dont know but maybe its because I'm used to a high FPS on my computer.. the lowest FPS i see on my PC game is 90 fps. that's why I can differenciate 30fps to 60fps

Some people can really tell the difference. Sadly, I'm one of them
But I started using the tab as more of a work device than gaming, so the newer features of Gingerbread far outweighed the gaming performance of Froyo for me.

LOL i'm also one of them, and this was one of the reasons HC needed froyo bootloader!
actually in terms of UI rendering and office apps specially on loading.. Gingerbread beats froyo over a mile ahead.. gingerbread is smoother only the 3d gaming is the problem.. but very well going to stick on gingerbread 2.3.6..
and btw.. Froyo also allows to underclock the CPU with higher value than gingerbread.. on froyo I can run 1.4ghz with -350mv stable but on gingerbread I cant get past -50mv stable on 1.4ghz..
any other tweak on how are the others getting a monstrous 3K score on quadrant?

GB is faster than froyo, it would more, but Samsung rushed out the update, and that ruined it partially.
UV is kernel issue, try with some other kernel first, and -350mv is insane!
3k in quadrant is nothing, its just a score, can be fooled, mostly its fooled in I/O part
-350mv running stable on 1.4ghz is true..
have you tried a FROYO with any kuxodaxi's kernel?
i suggest you try it and see for yourself
yeah Gingerbread is faster in froyo but not on samsung..
on tab froyo beats gingerbread in terms of 3d gaming
by the way what is the best I/O scheduler for you?

When did I say it was the highest? Do you not see in my sig i'm using an old rom with old kernel that doesn't even support the new qualcomm ksgl drivers?

Don't know what this neocore thing is but on Quadrant (NexusHD2 ICS) I've had up to 47 FPS. If you aren't on a HWA ROM you really can't judge properly the way the hardware performs.

Sorry i was going by word of mouth as far as the EVO goes, but i never knew that it had a different chipset
The QSD8650 is the same as the QSD8250 except for the fact that it also supports CDMA.
