Hi there,
I´ve got a HD7 and want to use Android. But this ist @ moment only posible with an HD2...
Now I wan to switch to HD2, but I have some questions about it...
Can I flash Android on every Bootloader? Is it pssible to flash Android to NAND?
How stable is Android un HD2?
Thanks for help...
This should answer your questions about prerequisites. NAND Tutorial
Just sold my HD2 b/c I wanted a native Windows Phone 7 device, but the Android builds are pretty good and getting better every day. There's some really impressive dev work going on in the HD2 community here. That being said, don't expect everything to work immediately...expect to do some tinkering. You may find varying opinions on this last point, by that's my take on the situation.
Yes you can flash Andriod or Windows Phone 7 to NAND. But you can not use the normal bootloader to flash these two you have to have MAGLDR flashed to the HD2 as this and Clock Work Mod (CWM) are the two different custom bootloaders that can flash Andriod. But only MAGLDR can flash Windows Phone 7. You also have to flash HSPL 2.08 to the HD2 before you can flash MAGLDR. Andriod is very stable on the HD2 but you must remember running Andriod or WL7 you can only charge your HD2 while it is on and the charge led will not function the same as in Windows Mobile. This is a side effect of MAGLDR.
So here is a simple run down, flash HSPL 2.08 first using HSPL 4. Then flash MAGLDR 1.13 followed by CWM if you want CWM wich most AnDruod ROMs for the HD2 use CWM now. Then flash the Andriod ROM. If you are going with WP7 flash the WP7 ROM after you flash MAGLDR. Hope this helps out.
Here is another good guide.

I am also switching to an HD7 from an HD2, because I did not want to mess around with the HD2 WP7 bugs anymore (camera, multitouch, etc.) and the HD7 is quite cheap right now compared to what I paid for my HD2 a year ago.
Using android on the HD2 on NAND is possible, but it will require some work and tinkering, just as inconceeeivable said. So if you don't want to switch between different builds and different operation systems I would rather get a native Android device. But if you want OS-flexibility the HD2 is certainly the way to go.

I like to use android on HD2 because I like the design of the HD2, and when it´s stable so why not?
I don´t want to use WinPhone7 anymore, I had a desire before and th HD7/WP7 was an experiment, but it´s over for me...
So i´m going to change my HD7 to HD2 and have the same phone without Win7...
Somebody wrote, that it´s not possible to charge phones that are powered off? How do I charge it, if the battery is empty?

If you forget and let your battery run completely out while running Andriod you can either borrow a friends HD2 and charge your battery for a few minutes. You can buy an external charger wich if you go this rout it is recomended to buy another battery also so you can constantly have a battery on charge. Or you cab us a old or very cheap USB cable and cut the end off and strip back the red and black wire then hold, or tape, the red wire to the positive (+) terminal on the battery and the blackwire to the negative (-) terminal on the battery. The terminals are marked on the battery. But you only need to do this for a few minutes to get enough charge to .oot up and then charge the phone normally.

I used to have a HD2 and had a few problems with the typical freezes etc. I actually miss that phone and am thinking about buying one again. My question is provided I use a different ROM (Energy etc) does the phone peform well now? I have read WM is actually pretty reliable with either another ROM or with Sense taken off.
Let me know what you think, should I buy another HD2? BTW, I am not interested in WP7 right now so that is not an issue.
Thanks!
i have an HD2 with a cracked screen i bought on craigslist. the unlock screen will stop working sometimes, and when i pull the battery and reboot, the home screen sometimes doesn't work. i've heard of these problems before but i'm not sure if this is a software or hardware problem. the previous owner had the phone running on AxLor DF1 XLite WWE. please help!
also i'd like to know how to flash to stock through micro sd, since i don't have a usb cable.
Thanks.

Go to this thread here, this is a thread on flashing from SD card. It has all the info you will need.
Also you can buy a replacement screen and install it. There is a couple of threads here on XDA on how to do this just do a search for them.

thanks, got on the stock T-Mobile rom now, but the touch screen on the lockscreen only sometimes works. would flashing to android fix this? i notice it will unlock sometimes after i press power then give it a few minutes, so i'm not sure if this is hardware or software related, and i'd like to avoid replacing the screen if i can.
EDIT: weird, i read a thread that said i should use the call button to unlock, and after a battery pull and waiting a few minutes, its worked for a bit, so i guess i found a temperary fix....
so now, i was wondering if its possible to boot android from the nand, and boot windows mobile 6.5, wp7, ubuntu, and meego from the sd, or can win mobile 6.5 only be booted from the nand? also, i need spl/hspl to boot all these things right?

You can't have them all. You can have WP7 running from NAND and Android running through SD. Not too sure on the rest though.

I know it would be a pain in the butt and in the wallet too. But it would probably benifit you to replace your screen. But this is a dessision that you will have to make for yourself.
Glad you found a teperary fix!
Yes you will need HSPL and also MAGLD flashed to your HD2 in that order to flash a NAND Andriod ROM. I beleive you can flash HSPL from your SD card, I think the thread I linked covers this. Buy I din't think you can flash MAGLD from your SD card. So you will have to have a USB cable for this. You can go to the HD2 Andriod NAND ROM section here on XDA and do a search for MAGLD and you will find the thread on it so you can double check and see if you can but I really don't think it is possibble. But you will have to have a USB cable to flash Andriod, WP7, MeeGo, and Ubuntu cause MAGDL does not have SD card flashing ability yet but they are working on it though. They are also working on being abale to run Windows Mobile 6.5 from SD card but as of right now it is not possibl, only from NAND right now. Also if you install a NAND Andriod ROM I think you can run WP7 from SD card but don't hold me to that cause I am not 100% sure of that, but if So that isit no other OS from SD card when running a NAND Andriod ROM.

thanks. for now i'll just work on installing android to the nand. i have a question though, will turning off the lockscreen in android possibly fix the touchscreen problem? i've been racking my brain trying to figure this out. i can either hurt my wallet with a screen repair, or i can do a battery pull every everytime i use the phone.. a real pain in the ass... sigh.. at least i got the phone cheap..

You know I can not say for sure if turning off the screen lock would solve your problem. But it sure is worth a shot so I say go for it and see. Also you can use a app like Touch Tools or BsB Tweeks to cut the lock screen off in Windows Mobile. Just do a search here on XDA or do a Google search for them and you will find them I recomend the Touch Tools this is a really great app. It adds a lot of tweeking ability to your HD2. I love it and have been using it for atleast 5 to 6 months now. Anyway if turn off the lock screen with one off these apps and it fixes your issue. Then you will know if you turn off the lock screen in Andriod it should have the same result. Heck if it fixes it you might just keep Windows Mobile ha ha just joking. I would not blame anyone for flashing a NAND Andriod ROM and getting rid of Win Mo. I personaly like Win Mo.
You're best off investing in a USB cable too lol. Your local hardware shop will have them. Its just a basic USB to micro USB cable.
I dont think any amount of tinkering with any OS is going to resolve your touchscreen problem............
The screen is cracked right?? Theres your problem.........
Could be issues with the digitiser as well because of this.
First job, new screen...........
i've been messing with the phone last night, and it seems the problem is related to the end call button. it seems whenever i try to wake up the phone with that button, it will freeze, while using the green button will wake up with no problem most of the time (>20% chance of freeze). it seems the freezing doesn't happen after a certain amount of time, since i left the phone in sleep all night and woke it up in the morning no problem. so in case anyone has the same problem as me and is too cheap to fix it, try only using the end call button when actually calling/putting the phone to sleep.
and where could i get a micro usb cable cheap besides online? i think t-mobile has them but they're like $10+...
it's dead again!
help! (again). the touchscreen is dead after i HAD to use the power button today, and now i can't use the touchscreen at all! i've tried turning the screen on and off like 50 times, tried like 10 battery pulls, but nothing! please help! can i open my phone somehow to get to the end key hardware or something???
earlier today also happened to me this problem, I install several rom a day, I can not go a day without testing new rom, I thought the problem was that, because I found this topic, when I use the button to connect the phone, everything is well, but not always the case that with the off button. Was it any rom that did this damage in some piece of hardware?

Sorry to tell both of you but your problems are hardware related. Member isoDUB yours is most definitly a hardware issue, but it has been a little bit sense you posted that post so I hope you have got your HD2 fixed or are working on getting it fixed. Member Body yours sounds hardware related to cause if you flash another ROM and you still have the problem with your buttons then it is most definitely a hardware issue.
Best option is to send to HTC and see if you can get a new one for free if you are under warranty.
same problem
hi
im not original english speaking so please excuse my bad english.
a few days ago i got the same problem. the display doesn't work when the phone was waked up with the endcall button.
when i woke up the phone with an other button the display worked.
i sended it to htc an they just told me they will not repair it because it is not in the original contition.
i flashed it with the latest original rom from htc but they didn't tell me what is wrong in detail.
i answerd them an asked what is wrong but until now i didn't get an answer.
Hello, I have a similar problem. When you unlock the screen so we jump on the green but some spots that disappear after a while.
Disaster strikes !!! Same prob here !!!
its indeed something with the buttons ... Touch screen is dead ... but sometimes its workin!!
Three months ago ... I changed the case of the HD2 with a new one. The "old"one was full of scratches ...
I think yhat HTC is not gonna accept that ... the "void-label" on the screw is damaged...
What do you think Guys ??
Grtz
every where the htc hd2 screen problem ........... i think that every one who has the htc hd2 facing the screen problem we shopuld start the new thread where we that who has the htc hd2 without any touch screen problem
Have the same damn problem ..once the screen is locked ..its impossible to slide it to unlock ..previously it was working 50% of the time and now it doesnt work at all :-(( ..
Any suggestions ? ...I read alot on the forums and people seem to say that its digitizer related but the imp thing is to note that almost 98-99% of the people having this problem are frequent Android rom flashers ..so does Android have something to do with this and will flashing original stock rom back be the solution ??
Hi there, I am in a bit of a pickle and I do not know how to resolve the issue
I have recently been given an HTC HD2 by a family member. The phone is installed with WP7on the hard drive and Android on the SDcard.
Having used both systems for a couple of weeks neither of them are fit for purpose where the HD2 is concerned.
Android, albeit uses the correct phone buttons and is has the facility multiple settings, doesn't work the camera or video correctly and suffers from various elementary problems as it is not an OS native to the HD2.
WP7 won't sync to my computer and deletes emails from my server on deletion from the phone which gives me an even bigger problem. All in all, having read the WP6.5 users guide and many comments written about WP7 it would seem prudent to return to 6.5. A factory reset only returns me to WP7 so I don.t really know how to return the phone to its original state apart to send it back to HTC whoch will cost me lotts of dosh.
The computer will not see the phone through explorer and I do not have a reader to view and adjust the data on the mini sd card. I have read the advice given to others on the forum regarding this issue but I am afraid the terminology alone baffles me. I have dealt with computers for nearly 30 years but am totally unfamiliar with phone technology and how to configure the hardware.
Can someone please hold my hand and walk me through this minefield. This feels like my first meeting with 386 back in the 1970s. Give me an i5 to deal with any day.
Hope you guys can help..................Clive
Welcome to xda-developers,
First, you can run Android off your NAND using cLK (a bootloader) which makes your HD2 a "like" native Android device, you have to pick the perfect ROM of your choice. As for Windows Phone, you have to have Zune installed to sync your stuff, I also "assume" there is an option for not deleting e-mails from the server, only phone.
Second, reverting to Windows Mobile 6.5 is rather simple. if you want the stock ROM (the ROM that came with your device) just head over to htc, look for support and enter your serial number then download the ROM. After that turn off your phone then power it up while holding the volume down rocker. Then connect it through usb to your PC. Finally, Run the *.exe file you downloaded from htc.com . But if you want a custom Rom (preferred) then go here and pick your device (Tmobile or european), follow the instructions in the Rom you pick.
I hope this has helped and, please, enjoy your stay .
Additional Information:
After flashing, you need to change the format of your sd card's partion, because Windows Phone uses an unformatted partion for storing data, just switch that to FAT32 or NTFS and then format it.
And so it came to pass that Android and WP7 were cast aside and the old ways prevailed.
I would thank you from the bottom of my heart if I had one so instead I will simply say thank you.
It was the holding down of the rocker switch that did it. I had tried many times over 24 hours to get the phone to sync to the computer and was convinced that I never would achieve it.
Now I have a whole new phone to configure. Gone the clean minimalist look of WP7. Now I have settings and things to play with as I did in Android. The camera works in still and video settings and zooms as it should and all the buttons are in the right and proper order. I can see my file structure, cut and paste pretty well whatever I like with the aid of windows mobile device centre and have real menus on my email to sort out things from folder to folder. I formatted the 16 gig sd card and wiped away the last vestages of Android leaving me with a huge storage facility for pictures, I have at least 2 and music, I have an LP or 3. I know the human interface is a bit flashy and bright but I grew up in the 60s when everything was so, nothing wrong with a bit of bling.
The family member who very kindly gave me the HD2 said that WP6.5 was dead and suggested that I should only consider reinstalling it if I was going to sell the phone, instead It feels like someone has taken off the handcuffs and handed me a much more flexible bag of tools with which to organse my life. Maybe its a generational thing, I am over 60 and expect to be accorded choice.
I anticipate that I will find things on 6.5 which I don't like but as I have taken such a radical view of the advancing technology I will try not to bleat and cry about it and be content with what this system offers.
All I can do for now is thank you again, you have got me out of a real hole and I shall be an avid follower of this forum in the future as long as you don't tire of the naive questions I am likely to ask.
Kind regards to you all .............................Clive
Welcome to the forums, Clive!
Interesting, how views and taste can differ...
I purchased my HD2 with the express desire NOT to be on WM6.5. I found a perfect (in my view, of course) Android Nand ROM and could never be happier - everything works and perfectly well. In fact, I commented just last week how HTC were stupid not to go with Android as native OS for HD2 to begin with, seeing how flawlessly my toy works now as opposed to WM.
I am sorry to hear about your problems with Android and WP7, perhaps you might want to reconsider and give it another shot some time later? I'd recommend Android Nand, I feel WP7 still has some way to go.
I am not surprised by your comments about Android and if it had functioned correctly I would have been much more inclined to stay with that OS.
Whilst 6.5 gives me everything that I need and everything on the phone works I can see after using it for a couple of days now why many users moved away from it. Some of the screens are a little difficult to programme and the user interface is fiddly and over sensitive. All in all it is a bit outdated but on the up side everything works. I can't abide things that don't and neither WP7 or Andriod did, probably because of the way they were set up on the phone. Mind you, having just said that I am still of the mind that WP7 is absurdly cut back with little or no choice of settings.
I am advised that there a number of different Android ROMs and that if it a ROM of choice is installed to the NAND rather than the card then it will behave natively and the problems that I experienced with it dual booting from the SD card will not be present.
I must admit that my curiosity will probably get the better of me in due course and wild horses won't prevent me installing android on the NAND if only to see how it can operate when it is at its best.
I'm quite looking forward to that experience..........................Clive
hey, dont be fooled by the masses into thinking WM6.5 is any lesser OS than WP or android, its not, yeah it doesnt look as pretty, or run as smooth but the OS its self is a beast, it can do just about anything you throw at it and can be modified almost limitlessly, in most aspects apart from the UI its every bit as good as the newer OSs and in most cases better!
If i could dual boot WP and WM would be a very happy person and would happily pay someone to do it, as it is, i have two devices, one WP one WM
WM was great!!!
I agree, WM 6.5 was awesome! Believe or not I stuck with WM for 5 years on my beloved Blue Angel. From 2003 SE to 6.5.3. Actually, my last flashed rom was Helmi's build 2 years ago. I still have my Blue Angel. I passed up new phone after new phone until I finally decided to get an HD2. I love it just the same. WM has never given me any headaches or trouble since the last build on my Blue Angel and it now serves as my rock steady backup phone just in case my adventures on the HD2 goes awry. Shame about WM, but all good things come to an end. WP7 is a step back but its potential is sky high! Android is my filler until WP7 becomes ripe to eat with Mango! I too have a dual boot WP7 and Android. Love them both but WP7 is gonna be the one I'm looking forward to.

So... uh... I know you're disappointed, maybe even angry that with all those FAQs there are still some guys who don't understand everything.
I bought my HD2 today (or maybe I got it today, but ordered it few days ago). It was used before, but as far as I could tell, nothing was done there - stock ROM, SPL 1.42.000, radio 2.07.51.22_2. The first thing I wanted to do was to install Android, so I read some guides here, HardSPL'd to 2.08.hspl, then I saw that I'd have to upgrade my radio. BUT! I've read that you can brick your phone by installing wrong radio and there was no answer to...
FIRST QUESTION: What radio(s) can I upgrade to without fear of bricking my precious?
SECOND QUESTION: What are the differences between radios and why the one with top number isn't the best?
THIRD QUESTION: When I'll eventually install new radio, how do I know if it's worse or better than previous one? Is there a fast and efficient way to check it? I don't use my phone as a calling device too often (average 1 call and 0.5 sms a day), so it would take ages to detect all flaws by using it as always.
And without going into any details, can you say - why would I install Android on SD? From what I've heard and read, NAND version is faster (and I haven't heard anything else).
Oh. Please, don't kill me because I'm a newbie I have some experience with jailbreaking iPods and installing ROMs on HTC Artemis, but with HD2 things I'm for now like "I'd better not touch it, I paid so much for this phone, so I don't want to brick it ".
If something is unclear, just ask.
1) If you have a tmobile HD2 you can flash any radio with the third set of numbers being .50 as long as it's above 2.08.50, you cannot flash any radio where those numbers are .51.
example:
2.10.51.xx = brick
2.07.50 = brick
2.11.50 = safe
etc...
If you do not have a tmobile US version, you're safe with the radios I stated above not to flash.
For Android, only use 2.10.50 and above, I've had nothing but problems with older radios.
2) They communicate slightly differently with your hardware. The "newer" might have better battery life for some, or better reception with Android but not WP7. The truth is no one knows exactly what aspect of which radio is better, you have to just flash them and find out. Newer does not always mean better (although I do like 2.15.50 the most).
3) There's no fast way to check this, other than maybe on the 2.11.50 radio you had only Edge with terrible speeds, then flash 2.12.50 and suddenly you see H everywhere (I've had that happen). Also you might see more bars immediately. For battery life you can have Current Widget (Android) which will show your battery drain. One radio might show 2ma and the other might have 10ma for some reason, obviously the 2ma will give you longer battery life (this is in standby)
But there are so many factors. Which ROM, kernel, mod, apps all effect stuff on your device. Different radios work better in different regions too.
What I would recommend is use 2.15.50 for Android and 2.12.50 for WP7
But play around and see what you think!

First, Congratulations
FIRST QUESTION: What radio(s) can I upgrade to without fear of bricking my precious?
Depends, is your device the european version or the T-Mobile's Version? (Are the Talk and Hang-up button Coloured with green and red? and do you see "T-Mobile"'s logo ontop of your device?)
The radio's that supposedly won't kill your device must meet those two conditions:
1- The radio must be above 2.08 .. (2.09 or 2.10 .... 2.15)
2- The radio SHOULD NOT have "51" in it's tag (i.e. this radio "2.04.51_55_8 will brick your device )
SECOND QUESTION: What are the differences between radios and why the one with top number isn't the best?
Because Radio's efficiency depends on where you live, some people use the latest and it gives them very good reception .. others on different places might get poor receptions.
Well, I don't think there is another way beside monitoring your reception and your data losses .. Just keep an eye on your signal bar and/or your call (drops) (despite cLK/PPP)
And without going into any details, can you say - why would I install Android on SD? From what I've heard and read, NAND version is faster (and I haven't heard anything else).
Some people prefer to have Windows Phone 7 on their NAND, yet they want to play with Android sometimes so it becomes a win win . Furthermore, SD cards are easier to deal ith in term of modifications.
I don't think NAND builds are faster, both have same speed (you just have to pick the right rom for you )
Oh. Please, don't kill me because I'm a newbie I have some experience with jailbreaking iPods and installing ROMs on HTC Artemis, but with HD2 things I'm for now like "I'd better not touch it, I paid so much for this phone, so I don't want to brick it ".
(we won't kill you )

Omg, I need to recharge my battery
EDIT:
Well, Orangekid was faster, i think
Thanks for the replies, guys!
My device is the european version (no coloured buttons and no logo, bought at Polish store with no simlock). So it looks like I should be safe with all radios, right? There's no way that something may screw up by itself? As I said, my HD2 isn't new and I don't know much about device's history. Is there something I should check?
Sorry if I ask too many questions... I'm just amazed with the phone (everything else seems to be so little now and I wouldn't want to break anything.
About NAND and SD versions of Android - well, I've heard that you need to wait very long to wake up the phone from standby (I mean it's not instant definitely) on SD version, but with playing with NAND you could break something more easily.

NP, better to ask a bunch of questions than brick your device.
you do not have a tmobile US version, so those .51 and below 2.08.50 radios will not brick your phone, however Android doesn't like anything below 2.10.50 and does some stupid ****.
as far as wake-up from SD lag, doesn't happen on my SD rom, so I wouldn't worry about that. This ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652
is awesome, and performs just as well or better than any NAND rom I've used. Since I use WP7 in NAND, I stick to that ACA SD ROM and I love it.

#2 isn't the best example because even if that radio was .50 it would brick a tmous device.

I know
.04 and .05 can have .50 yet brick devices .. that's why I said above .08
thnks !

No worries, good write-up.
The more often we tell people this stuff hopefully the less "oh **** I bricked my tmous hd2" threads.
So ALL the radios should work? Does updating radio require WinMo, or can it be done without it?
Anyway, it looks like I won't bother much with NAND Android. I'll just leave WinMo 6.5 for now, maybe later I'll be able to understand this magldr thing (for now all the descriptions are like 'it's something that allows you to boot other OS from NAND', but I have no clue how does it work).

Yes, you're safe from radio brick, but i wouldn't bother with any radio below 2.10.xx
You can flash the radio from HSPL (hold the volume down button and power on) or from WinMo with an activesync connection.
MAGLDR is a second bootloader that sits on top of HSPL and allows you to:
1) boot WP7
2) boot Android recovery
3) boot Adroid NAND
4) boot android SD without having to boot winmo first
5) play tetris from your bootloader
Flashing MAGLDR is very safe and very easy, same process as flashing a radio. You can't do anything with or from magldr that will brick your phone because it loads after HSPL so worst case is you boot into HSPL and flash stock or reflash magdlr.
about nand or sd:
some people like to dual-boot either winmo or Android. This will give you the option to run one or the other. If you decide to go the sd route then you might want to check a program called RunDroid found here. It makes it make the process of booting different builds a lot more simple and easier I feel.
About radio:
I know a lot of people seem to say stay above 2.10 but I've seen a small increase using 2.08.50. This will/can be different for you so i would suggest to try them to see what gives you the best signal. Start with the newest or maybe even 2.15.50.
About testing signal strength:
For a good way to get a fairly accurate reading on signal I would go into settings, about phone, then network. Look at the signal you have, I would suggest to leave your phone in one place and don't try to move it. Get the readings maybe 3-5 times over a few mins, I'd think the longer the better. Then flash a new radio. The closer to a positive number the better. Low signal for me normally means around -108 while good for me is around 89. (It's normal to show negative when you have poor signal.) This is a little more accurate I feel then trying to see how bars you have. Infact one radio over another may only show a small increase and not enough to generate a full bar so just play around and see what works best for where you live.
I have an HD2 which I managed to flash wm7 on to about 6 months ago. It took me over 2 months to do it and by the time I was done I had nearly pulled out the little hair I have left. I fully admit that most of the frustration was due to my own ineptitude. But all this work was in vain. I have never got this phone to work properly with wm7 loaded it on it. In fact, if the phone runs out of a charge it near on impossible to get the phone to charge. Which is where I'm at now. I can get the phone to turn on whilst pluged in but it wont charge (the red charge light does come on for a nano second before it goes in to and forever stays on the DFT screen). Well, up to now it been no big deal as it only has my US sim card in it and I've been using my samsung note with my UK sim card in it while I've been in europe. But I am now back in the US and need to have this phone back working. I am quite happy with the android OS on my note and would very much like to have that running on my HD2. I was hopping there might be some kind soul out there that would be willing to help me in a step by step procedure to liberate my phone from the deadly grip of wm7 . As a start you can know that I reloaded the Radio (what ever that is) to the standard needed for wm7 and I also have magloader loaded on this HD2. In an effort to keep this simple I'm going to open up with just one question and then we can go from there. Do I need to remove the wm7 I flashed to this phone before we start and if so how? Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from someone.
