Couldn't say, mine just has a folder in it and nothing inside that folder. Maybe you could create a folder named block and one called vold inside that one?
What were you trying to accomplish that you accidentally deleted it?

My best recommendation is just reflash the rom.
Root explorer isn't showing them but I believe you that they are there.
You could probably even do a backup first in xrec. Then just restore the data part after you reflash.

If you reflash it should replace the files. That should all be included when the rom is installed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Sent from my Delorean using a flux capacitor!
Worst case scenario if you have a backup you can always repair with Seus and reflash back to your current rom after that. Then you won't lose anything but some time.

OK, so my wifes MT4G arrived today, and I had it rooted and S-off after a remarkably short time. I then tried to do some research on the pre-installed apps, and which ones are safe to remove. I'm guessing most are OK to remove, but I'm surprised at the lack of info I've been able to find...
Are the apps tied into the framework, or can I just kill without fear? Not sure how T-Mo weave their tangled web...?

The fastest way to remove the cruft is just load Ice Glacier is you want to stick with sense UI. That's nearly the only difference it has from stock; crap pre-uninstalled.
Thanks Kline, I'll take a look...

I don't know if anyone has posted this but I found a little trick that made me say "well duh that makes sense."
So I actually like the touchehiz launcher but was having a tough time keeping my apps straight with the new 2.3.3 version as it only allows an editable grid or alphabetical list. I tried adding an old modded version but got a force close. When I restored all my apps were alphabetical in a grid view again. I went about moving the apps around and then went to settings/application/all and cleared the data of TWLauncher and my apps are again alphabetical.
The downfall of doing this is you lose your Widgets but after awhile its the easiest way to clean up the app drawer.

Dude I know a lot of new people here will be delighted to know that but that has been known since anyone posted about wanting to rearrange apps in apps drawer. Nice though that you have the courage to post it again.
Well I may have just forgotten since I've become so accustomed to the modded tw launcher and know that we don't yet have a modded version for GB. I'm sure there is more than one or two frustrated trying to keep all their apps in order right now.

Well know one, but the best method is download an app in market which can sort the Twlauncher in alphabetical order without cleaning the widget together.

Answer.
To bring that back, you hold on the screen, tap on Launcher Actions, tab Open/close App Drawer, and there you go! Access to your apps, where you can delete them!
Thanks for the answer but I meant delete them permanently from the nook. The phone app just wastes battery and since you cant message and take pics she wants em gone

If you are rooted I would suggest installing TI (Titanium Backup-free) and freeze the app. Sometimes nuking out apps that have interdependency can create problems. Freezing the app in TI should accomplish what you desire safely.
I believe the phone app was proven to not use the battery?
Like cell standby and phone idle under battery use was false.
Oh thanks to the both of you ill do the titanium backup thing but does it remove it from the app drawer?

Gosh. Been a while since I froze an app. I don't believe so. But as it's frozen, unless you have a butt-load of apps and scrolling through them is an issue, it really shouldn't matter. IMO.

My wife is the same way, and was getting irritated that they were in her way. I ended up installing Go Launcher EX and then was able to create a Folder in the App Drawer called SYSAPPS. I put all the unwanted system apps in there and they were out of her way. Cleaned the app drawer up nicely. Not sure if another launcher will do that, but knew Go Launcher could. She likes it now.

Using LauncherPro, you can hide any app you want. Just go
"Preferences->General Settings->Hidden Apps", choose the ones you want to hide, tap "save" and they're out of your way.
No need to go through switching launchers. or creating new catalogs. if you freeze them with titanium backup, they will disappear from the app drawer.
Don't turn off google talk, even if you don't use it. google talk must be working in order for the market to function. some other apps, if they arent installed, will filter the availability of certain apps in the market, although I am not sure if that is effected by freezing or not.
On a side note, I have read the threads about the telephone and message apps supposedly not effecting battery life, and they do spins reasonable, but I an beginning to question if theyv are right. I definitely have processes related to unused phone apsa running on my nook using memory.
The android.telephony process is shown to be running in several running apps lists, and is using 2.3 MBA of ram. I am just starting to wonder, is all...
I use both methods mentioned previously. Organize my app drawer using Go Launcher and freeze, as well as backup apps with Titanium. It's also well worth the money if you like to try different roms or tinker but don't want to loose your apps or their data.

I'm tearing my hair out here... Maybe someone can fill in the blanks for me.
I recently switched to this rom as suggested by a user of this forum. Fantastic Rom, and I regret stating on stock for long.
However, the lack of a genius button is almost a deal breaker for me as I use it to text while driving - I just hit the button and connect it to my stereo.
In my attempts to add the functionality back in (which according to another thread here is possible), I'm having no luck, but plenty of fc's.
To be honest, I know enough to root a phone and flash a Rom, but this one is a little rough for me, so I admit I took the lazy approach...
First I found a zip file for the app, but it just fc'd even after fixing permissions and rebooting.
Second I tried adb to push the files to their app appropriate locations, but I can't figure the damn program out.
I finally settled on using es explorer to move the files from my sd. I fixed permissions with rom manager and rebooted, and it still fc's.
Any ideas? Bad download? Am I missing a related app that is tightly integrated with this one?
I suppose I could try restoring the stock rom, backup the genius app, flash darkside and then restore the genius backup, but that's a pain...

Hmm, I never tried putting the genius app sense 3.5. You used the Genius app for GB, right? There is one for Froyo and one for GB. I know that the apk HAS to be a system app or its FC city.

I believe it is the GB app, but since the first link I tried was dead, It's possible I pulled the wrong one while searching for the file elsewhere. I'll check that.
The two apk files are in system/app, and the two so files are in system/lib as per instructions given in a thread.

It's a legitimate request I've seen before. I mean, why let your old devices just waste away when your children or family members could totally use them as dirt cheap replacements for iPods and such. You don't want them making accidental emergency calls or circumventing the settings you put in place.
Should be able to completely remove the radio somehow so that the cellular stuff just won't work.

Maybe this is a project for some of the budding devs on xda. In theory, it sounds like a simple change. Simply remove the phone aspects of a rom and repackage. I'm sure it's harder than it sounds in terms of stability and usability though (I'm not a dev) =/

Eh, some apps certainly wouldn't work, anything that needs to communicate through telephony and such. But really shouldn't be that difficult.
I'll come back when I'm not too terribly busy with some links about breaking down and customizing ROMs and such. I know that I've found a thread specifically for this kind of thing for another device, but there are a few of them I read up on so it may take a while to locate. Hell, you could just about remove the phone and contacts apps and edit your build.prop and leave an existing ROM intact. I'm no dev or anything though lol so I'll look around.

Not the OG article I had read, but after a bit of Googling I came up with a script that you should be able to set to run at boot which will disable your radio.
You may also be able to dial *#*#INFO#*#* and choose turn off radio, but that will not be persistent across reboots. I would use the script and a third-party launcher that can hide apps so that you'll keep the phone and contacts apps and such for stability, but not have them readily available.
*EDIT:
And a flashable zip! Thank you jellybellys!
**EDIT:
Just to elaborate about that flashable zip, it will actually "permanently" (until you wipe and install another ROM) disable the radio and clean out the apps that you don't want. Also installs some kind of binaries if they're currently absent from the ROM. Great find, I'm glad you asked about this!
exactly, my first thought would be just to use titanium backup and disable/freeze but not remove apps such as dialer or what you dont want/need. not sure if this will work but its worth a try. probably a few treads across xda on this (especially on older model phones) id search in those and see if there is a quick answer short of developing a whole new rom

So you used the zip, and once booted those processes were force closing?
I'll try it out on my phone, see if I can't replicate the issue and speak with the dev. Exactly what MIUI build are you on?

Installed on EliteMod 120316 and upon first boot did get something about the mms process FC'ing. Upon subsequent reboots no more message though, have you tried another reboot? You had two processes FC?

So that's the MIUI.us "Pure English?" I've just downloaded the last available build and will soon flash and then install jellybellys's zip. I'm hoping that will get me the same FC's as you are.
Once you've gotten home after the weekend, try rebooting it a time or two and see if it consistently gives you the FC's.
Also, just curious, but are you using MIUI just because it's the most similar Android overlay to iOS? To make it a bit easier for your friend? Because you could hook him up with some ICS goodness otherwise
*EDIT:
Ok, looking through his updater-script vs. my /system/app/ directory, it looks like MIUI names a couple of apk's differently. I'm currently installing a fresh MIUI so that I can see the directory before moddified by the OG jellybellys zip, then I'll update his zip to reflect those different names and try to run it again. If successful, I'll post the modified file and hopefully we can get your friend a fun little multi-tasking media player
Ok sweet umm can u send me the edit zip
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2
Had a good look at the flashable zip, very simple. I need to learn to code, I guess this is a good small place to start lol
All I did was unzip his file, change a few things and added a couple extra lines to remove one more app he hadn't worried with. As said above this will disable your radio, install the radiooptions binary if absent, and remove a number of apk's from the /system/app/ directory.
Removed apps:
TelephonyProvider.apk - cellular service
TelocationProvider.apk - emergency location service (I just don't see the need if you're not connecting to cellular networks)
Phone.apk - your phone app - should also get rid of dialer, I'm trying to find out why it doesn't.
Mms.apk - messaging app
All credit to jellybellys @ rootzwiki.com of course, I couldn't have written this myself or anything.
jellybellys-mod-wifionly-MIUI
Again, the phone app will still be on the homescreen and you actually can't remove it. It won't dial anything, and will just cause the acore process to FC if you try. It's looking like the only way to get it really removed is to modify the ROM's zip so that it never installs the app to begin with.
I'm going to restore the apps again, see if Titanium Backup can't do a better job than outright removing the app does.
