Ohk got it so you edited your build.prop to show that you are from AT&T.
not sure but this should not be related to andriod market.

What do you mean you can't get any good apps with 2.2? Which apps aren't working for you? To my knowledge editing the build.prop to show as x10a doesn't change anything but what you read when you look at the about phone sections.

Still not entirely sure what you mean as being an x10i doesn't limit that at all. I'm on att and I still can get all apps.
Is there anything specific? I could tell you if I can get it. Do you have the newest market?

I love that response but being classified as x10i doesn't change ability to do apps. Read my previous post too.

What's the purpose behind hiding it? And I've heard of people having problems with the online market. I personally have never used it.

I edit the build.prop all the time to fix things the devs might have messed up. And yes, I also clean up their spelling errors.

AT&T can still block you from apps even if you are rooted and unbranded. Market and AppBrain read your sim card, not just your ROM. I couldn't find Google Voice Search, a USA 2.2 app on the market when people from other countries could.
Try this.... I think what you are referring to could be solved by getting the app Market Access, and tricking your phone's sim card into thinking it is a different carrier. T-mobile for the US. This will open you up to the apps I think you're talking about.
PM me if you need Market Access apk.

Nope once its unbranded it doesn't matter as far as att is concerned. All they do is limit you from downloading apps not from the market. And that's just a switch in the settings once you use an unbranded rom or one that doesn't limit. They don't affect the market at all.

I beg to differ. I had this problem earlier and Batman_112 was kind enough to send me Market Access. I couldn't find Google Voice Search and another app with AT&T in the market, but when I tricked it into thinking it's T-mobile with Market Access it was there. Every Market is not equal.
Every market is not equal but att isn't the problem. Its a market compatibility issue that market access forces to allow. Just saying that att doesn't limit market access only non-market access. It has to do with what your rom classifies itself as(2.2 or 2.3 etc), not what your sim card says.

I apologize if there is a previous post regarding this question, I have search all over for an answer with no avail...
I was wondering if there is a way to trick the App Market into thinking that the Evo is the Incredible in order to download Verizon apps, such as Skype and the Inception: Mind Crime game?
I was also curious, if this is not possible, does anyone know where I might find the .apk files for those two apps?
Feel free to PM me with any information. Thanks all.

There is a skype lite version apk floating around that you can install on your phone that will work on Sprint.

The guy implied that if you are not on Verizon. The app will not work. So no, the app will not work
Re Skype
If Skype is your main concern, I found this story at Engaget:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/28/skype-mobile-with-video-support-coming-to-android-market-later-t/
Seems Skype intends to bring a "direct to consumer app to the Android marketplace later this year. This application will be available for all consumers globally to download regardless of carriers. (i.e. similar to how we offer the iPhone app today)"
The current Skype app does not work for the Evo. I have the Verizon Skype app, and after you install it, it will tell you that it can't run because you don't have a Verizon phone.
Just wait for the new version to come out for everyone, or get Fring and SIPdroid or something. There are many ways to make it work, but nothing as simple as straight Skype.
has anyone who tried this hack.

try to dl skype for verizon? this hack is to use verizon towers and one of the effects is that when u dial *2 it goes to verizon customer service.
just wondering with this will it make skype work on the evo?

If you download the Android app - My Market - this app is like Market but lets you select your country / provider. Select US Verizon and you can download and install the Skype App, but you can't get it to launch. Choose US T Mobile for other apps.

The Market app, in your phone under all apps, there is an app called market. Thats where you get your apps from.
If there is an app you are looking for that isnt on the Market, chances are there is a good reason it was taken off. It could have been a malicious app, might have been causing problems on people's phones, or maybe the developer just wanted to take it down to work on it more.
Maybe he didn't install Google apps yet. OH and if you want something different then the market apps, google Mikandi.apk lol

try this: https://market.android.com/details?id=ch.racic.android.marketenabler&feature=search_result
With your phone being rooted, you can use this to select your android market country/network to be different to what it actually is. I used it on the X10 but haven't tried on the arc, so it's worth giving it a go and feeding back to us...

When I was using my GS 2 for a bit I installed the official Amazon shopping app. When I moved back to the Arc I could find no sign of it and I cannot think why it isn't available for the Arc. It made me wonder how many other apps do not appear for the Arc for some reason?
Both handsets are UK versions and both are running 2.3.3 so is this something to do with SE having their own channel in the market?

The limitation isn't by your service provider it's by regions

How does being suspicious about a root exploit that popped up on a Chinese site overnight make me blame Chinese hackers for all my problems as normal? I don't blame the Chinese for anything, I would be suspicious of this no matter where it popped up if they went about releasing it the same way. It is always good to be suspicious about root exploits and to look into it instead of just going with it.
You need to take a chill pill and understand that not everyone is badmouthing people all the time, when they posted a warning to ,make people think before they just went with a root exploit and to double check that nothing malicious is being injected along with it.
