I got the unlock code for my MT4g from Tmo but when I turn the phone on with a non-TMo card the phone shows a "no SIM" notification and does not ask for the unlock code.
The non-TMo card I am using is not currently activated. TMo says that it should be a "live" card to get the prompt. But I've unlocked phones with non-activated SIM cards before.
I've also temp-rooted with Visionary and have frozen a lot of apps. So I'm also wondering whether anything I've frozen might be necessary to get the prompt. Any ideas on what system apps might be necessary for unlocking--even though they don't seem to be necessary for anything else?

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to find out how to SIM unlock my G1 without having an AT&T sim card. I have an unregistered T-Mobile sim card available if it could be used at all.
I tried searching but I must be using the wrong search terms because I keep getting results about unlocking using an AT&T sim card to get the request for unlock code to show up.
I have the unlock code, just need to be able to enter it.
dunno if its the same as the UK but I unlocked mine the other day from T-Mobile with an unlock code and all i had to do was to put the wrong sim card in there (i.e. the one u want to use) and then it should prompt you for an unlock code....
Yup, just shove in the ATT SIM card and it will ask for your code...
Is this possible?
I've just received my code and entered it with a disallowed SIM, it tells me network unlock successful but remains out of any kind of signal.
It then throws up the SIM unlock screen if I airplane mode on/off.
Is it possible to unlock via Android or will I need to reinstall some kind of Windows Mobile to do so?
Is it possibly just my ROM? (Typhoon).
My contract is up on the 28th so quick replies would be great
Can anyone help?
should work regardless of the os installed on the device, it unlocks it on a hardware level
i got my unlock code and used android to unlock and not had any issues, sounds like the code you have moight only be a temporary code

But the code doesn't actually allow me to use the (O2) SIM... It just says that it is unlocked.
What ROM?
I get a "SIM unlock successful" message regardless of what code I enter.
Tried on Typhoon, NexusHD Gingerbread and official MIUI.
Trying NexusHD Froyo to see if it's a GB issue :/
I unlocked via gfree using "./gfree -f" and have engineering boot 0.85.2007. In messing around in the bootloader at one point, I managed to accidentally select the "SIMLOCK" option in there...would that have permanently reset my simlock, or what does that option do? Is there a way to verify that I'm still simunlocked?
Also, if I do have simunlock active, does this mean I can use a prepaid sim card in another country without getting any kind of unlock code from TMO?
Thanks...
You would have to put a different carrier's simcard in to verify if you are unlocked. And yes, you can use prepaid sims overseas.
So no way to verify if simunlocked without actually trying another carrier's card huh?
So does anyone know - what does that "simlock" option in hboot actually do?
Bump...?......
Hi,
I have a Defy MB525 on T-Mobile running CM 7.2. The phone is getting old and has some hardware problems, so I bought a more gently used one on eBay. I've rooted the new one and successfully installed Bootmenu, 2ndInit, and CM 7.2, but when put my SIM card in it, it wants an unlock code. I tried the soft unlock method discussed here, but no success. I then tried the troubleshooting recommendation involving airplane mode and terminal emulator, but that didn't work either. I then got the idea to backup my "old" phone and restore it to the "new" one, and that went smoothly, *BUT* while I no longer get prompted for a SIM unlock code, there is an "x" next to the service bars and the phone indicates "no service." Both old and new phones have EPU93_U_00.59.01 baseband, old phone does get service, while new one does not. I'd love to hear any advice people may have. Oh, new phone was on Moviestar service . . . sorry for the stupid question, but when I've been prompted for a SIM unlock code is it Movistar's unlock code that I'm being prompted for or is it T-Mobile's? I assume that SIM unlock code is associated with the phone and not the particular SIM card itself--is that right?
Thanks,
Doug
I guess what you need to do is install Baseband switcher 4.1 or 4.0 and configure it so it grabs the correct baseband
Hello. Im trying to use my old k20 on a new network. The doner sim card fuctions fine on 3 other teat devices. However it is not unlocking from Metropcs. Its been in my drawer for a while and can not find the original sim card. Whwn i insert working sim there is no Sim card detected. The Device Unlock app states both Pass and Fail.. What am i missing?
I have this message too, it basically is saying that the unlock fail because you (or somebody else) have already unlocked the device and have applied it. I just unlocked mine because I had forgot that I can so I can sell it, it worked and was approved, so it restarted and when I checked to see what it would say again, it gave me the "Unlock failed, Unlocked approved" message. In all, the phone is unlocked, but idk why it will still show the Metro PCS start up, aswell with all the bloat.

Unlocking the device doesn't automatically remove carrier bloatware and other signage. That's what the stock ROM for the phone will be like when it's bought as carrier locked.
As for the OP question, if the SIM works on other devices but not your K20, and you're sure it's carrier unlocked, have you tried doing a factory reset with the SIM card inserted beforehand? It may just be the stock ROM being stubborn or stuck with previous config data.
