Error when using hands free activation? - EVO 4G General

After reading several posts on adroidcentral.com that claim to provide a resolution to slow 3g speeds (resetting data in the ##3282# menu) I decided to try it. The phone rebooted and began doing the hands free activation. It attempted to contact the server for roughly ten minutes and then failed. I tried to update profile under menu, settings, updates, and same thing. Attempts to contact server and then errors out. Help?

Sprints network is down

Ah, that certainly would explain it.

call sprint customer service. *2 on your phone if you dont have another phone handy. They are the only ones who can reactivate your phone, there is no other way to do it.

Verizon Data Usage

I don't see an option anywhere to limit 3G usage - such as preventing the Xoom from using the connection when the screen is off, etc. Does anyone see a way to do this?
Also, trying to register for an account on verizonwireless.com (to check data usage) results in the system sending a text message with a temporary password...that's helpful! lol
There is an app for that! Verizon has an offical app that shows data usage.

Haha, there is indeed...however when I launch it (My Verizon for Tablets,) even when on 3G, it seems to think I'm connected via Wifi and wants my user ID/password for MyVerizonWireless! (Which I don't have, due to the inability to receive a text message when registering.) Perhaps it needs an update?

you should call customer service and see if you can the text rerouted or see if they can give a password.

I had to call them. The will send out a letter via snail mail with your temp password.
Yeah, same here - they're sending a letter, best they could do.
are they at least sending it first class or priority? thats the at least they can do imo
settings, wireless networks, mobile networks, and uncheck data enabled.
Yeah, I was hoping to not have to turn it on and off manually, but that will work for now. I haven't tried any of the existing programs in the market that automate it yet...
Did you try restarting your xoom? I experienced the same thing today. I was on 3g, switched to wifi, and while on wifi, I the tried to check my data usage using the Verizon app. It wanted a username and password. Realizing that i was on wifi, i switched back to 3g and tried again. When I signed in with Verizon credentials, it showed me account information for my phone instead. I restated my xoom and launched the verizon app while in 3g and everything worked fine.
Oh...that 1gb data plan is JOKE! Halfway through it and haven't even spent 24 hours on the Xoom.

I was able to log in, as I had my Xoom added as a new line on the same account on which I already have a Droid. While I can see my Xoom data usage within the app, the widget will only show me my phone data usage. Has anyone found a way around this?
Yeah I've found a way. Call verizon and ask for a refund on your 1 month fee plus the activation fee since they already came out and
Said you can get a refund. They don't require you to buy the data to buy the xoom anymore.

Not able to download data over 4G

I just moved to an area where 4G is available. I had used 4G earlier in this area, and it downloaded data just fine. But now, 4G connects, but no app can download any data. Even while running the Speed Test app, the attempt to connect to the server times out. Interestingly, data dowload/upload over 3G works fine.
I am not sure if this is due to the new PRL (that's the only thing that has changed), or some other cause. I performed the Handsfree Activation and PRL update, and also took the device into a store, to no avail.

Sounds like the WAN side is down, or you need a hard reset, or you need the modem reflashed via odin or perhaps a newer/different modem. If none of that works/is true, I'm willing to bet you need the radio replaced in your phone

My Friend has this same exact problem and it turned out that his 4g mac address was flagged @ sprint and they had to unblock it. They did not give a reason why, but they fixed it for him.

[Q] Replacement S4 Won't Register on Network for Data?

I have cell service but no matter what, I can't get it to register on the network for data?
Customer service keeps telling me that it "takes an hour of so" after it's registered to your account but no go.
My last phone was replaced because the data simply ceased to work.
I can go to a store but it's 35 miles away.
Suggestions?

can't receive or make calls or text

Help,
I recently changed my phone number online through sprint. After changing my number I"m unable to make or receive calls or text. Data works fine no problems. I haven't rooted or put a rom on my phone, stock. I went through sprint customer service, technical support online and at the store. The guy at the store said I would have to replace my phone for $75, even though I didn't mess up my phone. I really don't think it's the phone that is the problem.
They say when you activate a new phone it takes up to 48hours for everything to work correctly. You could try ##72786# in the dialer to reactivate the phone.

Data not working on some apps and websites.

Hello guys, I'm on Sprint and did everything possible nothing works any ideas. Thanks
UPDATE:i just found out that my phone only does that while connected to clearwire towers, on Sprint towers everything works fine, i called Sprint and no luck trying to convince then is the tower, they say is the phone i have to replace it. I added some screenshots any ideas sprint or the phone. Thanks
Update 2. I'm connected to the tower but I don't have upload service, i have added more screenshots.
More details would help others help you out. What issues are you having, etc?
Just a vague one liner is not enough.
Sorry some of my apps don't work on mobile data but on wifi work fine, some websites too like sprint.com, I tried resetting network, factory resetting, no luck the apps think Im not connected to a Network, thanks
I think I'm experiencing the same issues as you are. When you try to load a site like Amazon.com or Slickdeals.net, Chrome just hangs. I've factory reset my phone, tried different browsers, and tethered my connection to another phone and the issue persists in every single case. The only way I seem to be able to get around this is by changing the "Preferred network type" to EvDO or by using a different cell tower.
EDIT: Also, using Safe Mode doesn't resolve this issue.

I found out it doesn't work well with clear wire towers you have download but no upload, you can download signalcheck app to see where you are connected, sprint towers are fine.
I have tried calling, chatting, even tech store,so far they have no record of the problem
I'm having the EXACT same issues on Sprint. I've tried every suggested change that I could find, but nothing has resolved the problem. Also, went into a Sprint store this week, but reception was impeccable at the store, which made it impossible to replicate.
Any idea if it's a hardware or software problem? I'm unsure if I should keep the phone or not (14 days is up next Saturday). If it is software-related, I'll hold onto the phone.

Download signalcheck and that will tell the type of network you are connected, i found out is the clearwire towers that are having the issue we don't have upload, i talked to a sprint rep and he is looking into it and i emailed essential to find out if software/programming or hardware related
Im attaching a screenshot with a Sprint tower, upload speed are good.
We have to keep calling Sprint until they knowledge the problem because according to them everything is fine, no record of this issue

Have you tried using a VPN client to see if the issue persists? I just found that using Onavo's app clears up the issue until this gets fixed by Essential. The only caveat is that my plan throttles VPN usage past 10 GBs.

I've been monitoring my tower connections and via My Sprint app reporting data issues regularly. I really hope the Essential and/or Sprint can get this resolved.

Wow, this really works. All the sites and apps that wouldn't load properly worked without issue. Maybe just a software issue after all??

The Essential Phone is either sending data in a way that triggers Sprint throttling or is not routing data correctly.
I tested out a Verizon SIM card today and experienced no issue, which validates that there's not a hardware-level problem.
For this of us who have Sprint and may have this issue but don't know anything about vpn's, is there a cost and a tutorial on how to use one?

Cost is pretty low for a VPN service. You download an app, subscribe to the service (if it's not free), and enable the VPN service. Usually, you set it and forget it. I personally chose a free VPN service because I'm cheap and don't mind being the product.
i've used a vpn ap, you install it, click a button, the vpn is activated.. then you use the net... then click the button again to turn it off when you want...
so i guess i'm going to d/l a vpn ap again to have it on standby in case it's needed. any recommendations anyone?
sprint aught to be paying you guys for finding and diagnosing their problem. call corporate and complain
edit: i think it was turbo vpn ap i used in the past, going to install it again
If anyone wants to get Sprint's attention, then I'd recommend contributing to a Sprint Community posting I made here:
https://community.sprint.com/t5/Ess...loading-on-LTE-data-connection/m-p/984821#M55
The more people that chime in on that thread, the more Sprint will notice and hopefully fix it or help Essential fix it.

Looks like we're getting a fix on 2/5/18, according to the Sprint employee that's been responding.
Turn off band 41
What I did was got into *#*#DATA#*#* --> EDIT--> MSL:000000 --> LTE --> Band 41 OFF --> Reboot. This solved all the problems with data like going to amazon.com, etc. Download speeds are still great, no issues with streaming movies. Don't have to use a vpm anymore. Still waiting for Sprint/Essential to offer a fix, but till then with 41 off I have no connectivity issues. Hope this helps.
