Hi guys, looking to get a screen protector for my M500,
i heard these normally come in the box? my mate who has the T-Mobile version of the magician said that he goes his in the box?
What are your experiences with screen protectors and where did you buy yours from?
i bought my imate jam from dubai, didnt come with a screen protector in the box, was expecting to get one here in the US but cant find teh right size in any stores so now i have 2 options, order it online or buy a universal one that you cut out to the shape of the screen
Screen Protectors
Why buy a screen protector whynot make lots of them
use an A4 sheet of overhead projector acetate and cut
to the size of your PDA screen and add an extra 1/4" to
each end and tuck it under the screen ends. When its
dirty etc...just cut another one !
the screen protector that came with my mda compact was of very bad quality compared to the one I was using on my former HP 6310, which I got from Proporta.com.
So I ordered one for the jam and its great. It is washable, anti reflective, scratchresistent and responsive to stylus action. Their sevice is great also. They even include a sac of english breakfast tea in the shipment.
so go for it.
I am using martin fields, I am not an expert in this, but i get alot of positive review on it and the expert rate it 9/10. maybe u can check it at www.overlayplus.com and see what u think
thanks for the help guys,
ended up going for the martin fields one!
just ordered it off eBay for £8.50! not bad at all!
eBay Auction Info: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5800092770
let you know when i recieve it!
I have always been a Martin Fields fan, but lately it seems to me they are not that durable anymore?
Less than a month ago I replaced my protector and there's already scratch marks over each individual letter on the virtual keyboard. I don't write enough for that to be acceptable, so I will soon be looking for another brand
http://www.expansys-usa.com have lots of accessories for the JAM. I've ordered a screen protector from the UK version.
Screen protectors
I can recommend Brando Ultra Clear protectors - they are durable and very very clear. $USD13 inc shipping.
Joe
(I will just be asking about the clear film types)
So its been a while since people have bought up different kinds of screen/body protectors - any long term reviews now?
I am specficially looking for the best one to just cover my screen and maybe the part below that. I have the euro matte back which I feel resists scratches well enough on its own.
Two criteria:
1) fit well. None of this invisible shield "kinda fits ok" stuff
2) be the hard-type material (like the original HTC protector it comes with) for ease of stylus use.
thx much!
I heard this works great,
http://www.martinfields.com/US/dis_product.asp?model=HTC_ProTouch&modeln=Touch Pro&prod_type=screen
This will be my next purchase.
I'm still using the one that came with my Fuze. Still looks good
mine is getting pretty roughed up as of late - i ordered the martin fields so hopefully that works out.
EXiM
I highly recoment the EXiM screne protector (go for the ultra clear variety) I've used one on my DSLR for years with no faults and i have had one on my touch pro for a few months now and it's still scratch free and stylus friendly. a bit more pricey than other screen protectors but it's worth it.
I have purchased the martin fields protector and using it for about 2 months.
I'm trying to keep my Touch Pro at his case at all times exept when using it.
I must say it's not as good or as durable as it's were advised.
After 2 month the screen protector is filled with scratches!!! and it's mentioned in there site that it's high scratch resistance???
hmm that sucks dotanfe - ill post up how mine handles it.. in 2 months
Brando Workshop
I've gone through a few; factory protector, Ghost-Armor, case-Mate privacy screen and now the Brando Workshop Ultra-Clear. Factory protector was improperly cut, the Ghost-Armor was too thick and had bad orange peel, the privacy screen was way too thick and dark.....I've used the Brando for a month now and am very happy. The protector is hard, crystal clear and thin gauge. It is hard to tell there is a protector on the phone. Ordering is easy but they come out of Hong Kong so it took me a couple weeks to get it. Check it out.....
http://shop.brando.com.hk/index.php
well i got and installed the martin fields protector.
Pros:
-Super easy to put on
-Very clear (no orange peel)
-Feels very smooth, finger and stylus scrolling works great on it.
Cons:
-kinda spendy
-not a 100% perfect fit. There is a tiny gap on the side, the avg user probably won't notice but gaps = dirt/dust traps in the future.
-the edges of the protector seems "rough" and doesn't have a clean look & feel to it vs the stock protector. It has a dirty scuffed up look to it as well.
7/10
i got the martin field's when i first got my touch pro last Oct
i went to their office and they applied it for me very nicely (singapore office)
however i peel it off after awhile as scratches start to appear
the quality of martin field's is not as good as it used to be...
My martin fields protector is ALREADY scratched up - it hasn;t even been put through the paces yet. The original HTC protector lasted way longer than this POS did. Heck I don't even carry keys or anything else in the same pocket I do my phone.
Back to the drawin' board
i'll be trying the EXiM or Brando protector next.
thx for the suggestions, hope this experience of mine saves someone the trouble since I didn't listen to the warnings myself
Have been extremely happy with the screen protector provided with my Fuze: has been mounted since mid-Nov and barely looks used (Innocase top shell covers ragged edge that was lifted up prior to install of said Innocase).
Don't play games very often, but do take notes using FITALY & therefore expected lower portion of cover to show significant signs of wear by now.
Have an Exim "Ultra Clear Pro" standing by - and was looking forward to having an excuse to mount it, as have another use for part of the existing protector - but looks like it will be a while before it HAS to go on....
??: Wonder if we can BUY a Protector from AT&T that has same quality as the one that came in the package!?!

that would be nice, and if they would provide something to protect the lower button/wheel section then it would be perfect!
I'll be staying away from Martin fields then.
Also try Clarivue.

I bought some ebay ones. You know, the pack of 3 for $8 that comes with top and bottom part.
I only used top part as I have Ivisible Shield on rest of phone.
After a month of tons of use (I charge my phone a few times per day) I see no visible scratches.
Thing is awesome!

Same with my Martin Fields protector. Yesterday morning, I also just noticed that the bottom protection piece isn't even there any longer. Fell off at some point in the past (dunno when).
Ordered a 3 pack of generic ones for el cheapo, off of fleabay yesterday. Hopefully, they will work okay. Even if they scratch easily, at least I have 3 of 'em.
I been using the Brando for about 6 months, you can't even tell its there, no sratches on there,
had the martin fields one since i got my phone on release day for ATT. the only scratch i have is where i sometimes use my thumbnail to scroll tabs in TF3D....never had a problem with it like you folks have described.
So! Back in December 2010, I ordered a Zagg Invisible Shield for my significant other. It arrived in time for Christmas.
We noticed on the protector, before installation, while it was still on the original packaging sheet, there was orange peel, (for those who don't know, orange peel is a surface that looks and somewhat feels like the texture of an actual orange; small bumps.) There was also outlines on the front, to what looks like something heavy was set on the sheet either when it was manufactured, or packaged.
On top of that, there were in-prints of lines going across the protector, A 'square-shaped' in-print, from what looks like the same shape and size of either the solution bottle that it comes with, or the SKU SONERCX2FB sticker that they might stamp on the plastic bag while the protector is 'hot-off-the-press.
We were hoping once it was placed on the phone, it would smooth out, and go away... IT STAYED THERE.
It bugged him, there was rainbow effects, you can see the annoying inprints clearly while the screen is in use. THE SCREEN VIEW IS DISTORTED. Tilt the phone towards the right lighting, and you can still see them.
The protector isn't really smooth, it is soft, it does grab the stylus/nail. Creates a drag.
We made sure it cured for a day before using, to make sure the skin dries and adheres to the phone.
Its been couple months, and dirt has already found its way in the corners, started peeling, and has somewhat changed its color to being less clear.
GUESS WHAT? I decided to order another one in early February 2011, because I didn't want his new phone unprotected. I don't have patience for the exchange time period.
The new protector arrives. AND GUESS WHAT AGAIN??? IT'S THE SAME CONDITION AS THE FIRST ONE I ORDERED!! It had orange peel and line in print across the screen! Perfect 'square-shaped' in-prints! I didn't even bother to put it on.
STAY AWAY FROM INVISIBLESHIELD. I do not recommend this company AT ALL. Waste of money! Don't except anything better that GARBAGE.
Try Martin Field. http://www.martinfields.com/US/Print/MFOP-SEXperiaX2/en
Thanks for listening to my rant.
If course the pictures don't do justice, I tried.
I'm a Xperia X1i user, I recommend Shinomi (from Amazon.com) It pretty much covers the entire phone! (Camera lens, the sides, literally top and bottom of the phone.) Takes a while to install, but worth it.
Received my Boost Mobile Sharp Aquos Crystal on October 16, 2014 and after a few hours of tinkering,
started shopping for the usual case / holster with belt clip and clear screen protectors. Here are what
I ordered on eBay for my new smartphone . I will promptly post reviews of each upon receipt:
Case / Holster $5.99 <Received 10/20/2014. stitching quality is decent but case is so tight, can hardly get phone in/out & zero padding inside case. Seller admitted size error, refunded.
Next, I ordered this case for $5.99 < This seller DID NOT send me the case as pictures in their eBay listing. They sent me a case that is too small for this phone AND has cutouts that would allow the corners of the phone to be damaged if dropped. Package label says case is for a Samsung phone, not this Sharp phone. I contacted seller, no response in past 24 hours. Ordered from a 2nd ebay seller with same results. My search for a GOOD case/holster continued.
NOVEMBER 6, 2014 UPDATE: Finally found a case/holster that IS THE CORRECT SIZE AND protects the ENTIRE Sharp Aquos Crystal: $7.95 case / holster.
Screen Protectors (pack of 6) for $1.99 < Received in 4 days & perfect fit for this phone. Note: Pull back Tab #2 slightly BEFORE applying to phone or you might not be able to remove it after you iron out the bubbles.
Both prices including free delivery in USA.

Thx for the recommendation on the screen protector. Just ordered one for $2.49

Skinomi
Another option if you like the nakedness of the Crystal is TechSkin from Skinomi. I just got mine yesterday and its very eye-catching. Its an adhesive phone skin and screen protector(I got the black carbon fiber). When shopping for it, I was a little apprehensive that it would look cheesy, but its way better than I hoped for. The way its cut comes right up to the chrome and makes it stand out. Its textured too, so its not just some cheap sticker. The good thing about it is you can still use a case. I didn't use the screen protector though; I don't know, my phone just want to show all its glassy glory. I got mine on Amazon for around $12. They also have woods and brushed metals.

Sure!
That actually looks terrific! I saw that and the other stick-on cases on Amazon you mentioned, but gave no second-thought since the manufacturer pictures looked chintzy and not worth it.
You know, that's what I thought too. But once I got it on, my son walked by on his way to the kitchen and was like "Wow." That's a lot coming from a 19 year old. The quality is way higher than I expected, a real high-end look and feel.
Late as this post is, anyone try the snap-on cases? I bought this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OOGDRVK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Clear-Ice brand carbon-fiber snap-on case, sort of like a bumper case on the iPhone 5S. I do like the idea of the sticker thing, but it doesn't appeal to me, personally. I want the device more sealed in.
I'm getting my phone and case on the 10th, so I'll see then. I'm just curious if there's been more exploration than these stickers, or adding a tertiary pocket for your phone.

Actually, I got my phone and the case and am impressed by it. It snaps on with some click, it holds well, and it fits the nature of a bumper case quite well. My real complain stems from it not being an actual carbon fiber cover. It's just this gloss shell with a bunch of black squares gridlocked together to imitate carbon fiber in appearance and nothing more. It's actually more slippery than the naked phone. It protects it, I'll admit. The snaps over the edges actually protrude that little bit out from the screen, giving it the most subtle protection from surfaces.
Disappointingly, I ruined the screen protector in the process. I'll probably either buy a set or look up how to clean one and apply them properly.

Hi everyone,
Phone dropped from very low height, front screen ok, e ink screen in 1000 little pieces...
I am in Netherlands, where could I order new screen repair set or have it fixed? Thoughts or suggestions anyone?
Thanks!
I'd try Yota support first. You'll probably have to send it in, and the price will likely be close to that of a second hand or even new YP.
Did you check if it is insured in any way? Maybe you used a creditcard with insurance to purchase it?
It definitely sucks to be you in this situation, but if your phone is actually open on one side now: maybe you can post some pictures of the internals?
No credit card unfortunately, online retailer to big to care, yotaphone only has support in Germany I think, I'll post shots of the back of the phone soon
I feel for you dude
The shattered back, should be easy to replace no?
Probably won't be easy/cheap if the gorilla glass is bonded to the EPD, then both will have to be replaced. Did you inquire with Yota support yet?
If the EPD screen is still kind of working, and you can't get the phone repaired, you can't sell it off, and it's constantly annoying you by taking up precious space on your desk, it could always have a second life as a development phone. </vulture mode>

Now I feel bad for even mentioning it. Broken or not, it's entirely upto jmreijnen what he wants to do with his device, most likely try to get it fixed first. My hint was: in the unlikely event that you're about to toss it away or let it collect dust till eternity, there could be another use for it.
Hopefully it can be fixed for a reasonable fee. I couldn't find an official list of Yota service centers, but Yota support should be able to provide it. If Germany has one, that might not be a bad option to send it to from The Netherlands.
Well, currently it is in its case, on a pile of other cases, but yes, will probably try via Yota, ink screen is working fine btw...

Good luck, keep us posted, would be good to know what Yota or Yota's partners charge for a repair like this.
BTW: I was pretty close to your situation this weekend: my phone slipped from my hand in a parking lot, was saved by Yota's bumper.
Careful! It was a very low drop that killed it for me. No word from Yota or the German repair partner, nothing.
I broke the AMOLED screen of my second yota 2 a week after it arrived.... On its first proper day out of the house. 70cm drop onto fine gravel car park. Completely shattered the screen. It continued working but after a few days the glass started crumbling apart.
I emailed both my supplier and yota support. Took a week to get a reply from supplier, a couple of days from yota. I told both that I wasn't happy with supposed gorilla glass covered screen shattering like that. My old s2 had survived various falls on a range of surfaces without ever breaking.
After a week of emails my supplier confirmed the screen would be replaced under warranty but I'd not be able to make other warranty claims on screen after replacement. It was the first screen my supplier had to replace. Took a fortnight. I had to pay transport and labour costs. Totalled about $250 Australian in March.
Response times were very slow but they did get it fixed for what I thought was a reasonable price. (Still about 30% of what I paid for it) Cheaper than another phone anyway.
My supplier was Hong Kong based drop shipper: Expansys.
Good luck.
On German Amazon there is a review of a guy who had the same problem. The service allegedly asked for around 400 Euros to fix the phone, which is harsh considering you can buy a used one on ebay for around 450 Euros and new ones with full warranty for about 520-550 Euros...
But I don´t know if it´s true! Contact
www.datrepair.de
[email protected]
+49 461-95775-0
and they should give you a fair quote on the issue.
You might want to check out the new Siswoo R9 phone with e-ink back screen as well, it retails for about 350-400 Euros on AliExpress, but I wouldn´t expect the same level of Software and Widget expertise the people from Yota put into their phone. One of the main reasons I still would´t switch to other companies is the professional software service of Yota. From what I saw, the cheaper models coming out now (like the Oukitel U6 for around 200 Euros) all use the same software options you can get with an InkCase - and their software simply s*cks. Almost no options apart from some basic notifications and the mirroring of some pictures or a book, that´s it. My Yota is the Prince of Sophistication, compared to that
In Switzerland repairing the phone should cost about 200 swiss francs (with an iPhone 4 as temporal replacement) - I'm now waiting for about 3 weeks, but since I didn't get any further notice I suppose (respectively I hope) it will for sure be below the upper limit of 250 swiss francs I specified.

@jmreijnen
hi there, Did you replace the E-Ink screen? I broke my LCD and can't find any replacement, besides the official datrepair.de who want to charge 200€ for the repair. That's too much. I already opened it and it's quite easy to replace the E-Ink. Just be aware that there is a screw just right from the micro usb (LCD at the top). It's hidden behind a rubber part that you can remove with a thin screwdriver just by lifting the rubber at the side of the micro USB. If you don't remove that screw, the frame of the e-ink will bend.
Why am I writing this? Well, I would need a YP2 with an intact front screen to repair mine. Would you like to sell yours? If yes, drop me a PM.

Hey @lumosimann, where in Switzerland did you get that quote?
@DeGon: So the 200 swiss francs were given by mobiletouch.ch as an estimate for repairing the front site. Finally I decided also to repair the little fracture on the back which finally cost 312 swiss francs, but now it looks as it'd be new.
repair took 7 weeks - but I was given a temporal replacement.

The back of my HK supplied yotaphone is supposed to gorilla glass but feels like very thin plastic to me. The other AMOLED side (gorilla glass) seems to scratch very easily too. Both sides seem to be not very strong. Has anyone else thought this? Maybe fakes?
The EPD screen is very very thin and curved, it doesn't seem like Gorilla glass to me. I bet replacement costs big bucks.

My second Yotaphone 2 in family. E-Ink screen already arrived in box broken on yp206 from Aliexpress. To me it looks like ordinary glass that is used on cheap chineese models such as Oukitel C3 etc. Gorilla glass cant be broken just by a little harsh transport (Box is in good shape). Not crushed. Whats more, due to the fact that this cheap off glass is curved on sides it probably has some serious inner tension. Looks like post manufacture model made in different factory. I know the phone is beautiful and all but but seriously watch out. I already filled a dispute but arrogant chineese seller want to blame me.
