I think one of my speakers died - A7 General

I was playing robo defense and I heard a crackling from the right speaker and then it died. There's no audio balance control on this is there? I suppose I now have the joy of calling elocity tomorrow.

Yeah I had the same issue last weekend when playing Pandora. Apparently the speakers can't handle much power.

Yeah, my volume was only about halfway up...that's not excusable in my book.

As long as you weren't using something something like dsp manager to up the volume, velocity should repair under warranty.

Yeah, called Customer Service on Friday, and they are suppose to call me back within 48 business hours; so, just waiting on them now...

Speakerphone?

mine sounds like ****
I literally have to lower the volume for it to sound descent
now this realy pisses me off, its a $580 dollar device and the speakerphone sucks
whats weird is that it only sucks on speakerphone, because it rings and plays music fine. its only the speakerphone
can anyone test theirs and lmk how it sounds?
Yes, the speaker phone is horrible. When listening music is barely okay, but when on phone call with it...it's a nightmare!
Carnt they fix it with a software update?
Mine sounds ok depending on the person on the other end, my parents landline sounded fine but my friends cell sounded pretty distorted.
Yeah the speaker phone is pretty shocking...I was surprised. How do these things get past the product testing phase!!

i dont think there was a testing phase for N1. Us buying the phones for $530+ is the testing phase.
so can we contact HTC and complain?
I really need the speakerphone and quite frankly am embarassed to use it. someguy started laughing at me when he heard it lol

Speakerphone sounds bad. Distorted at max volume and as you turn it down it becomes too quite to be useful during driving.

the HTC HD2 had the exact same problem horrible speakerphone..
this is why I am going to go with the xperia x10 its all about build quality something I cam to expect from Sony E unlike my experience with HD2 crap camera crap speaker phone and now the Nexus one is plagued with problems....
lucky I come on here and read the problems I was O so close to buying one !
I have a few htc phones and listened to a few more, they all sound bad.
To me it's typical and expected.
If you priorities are speaker and music without BT or headphones HTC isn't the way to go.
the g1 I had sounds good, just not this piece of ****

Music Lovers Upgrade you may have sitting around.

Hi there, I dont know if this will be no news to most people out there, but ppl, I just realised if you get the iphone ear phones with the mic, You can use it on the Hero for the following
- Receive Calls
- As Expected Listen to Music
- But You can actually squeeze the mic once to pause the song,
- Squeeze it 2 quick times and it will change the track
If you know of any other ways to use the earphone pls drop me a line but right now Illd go back to enjoying this two lil piece of hardware I have that make my life far much better.

As much as I hate apple, thanks for this! I'll be putting this tip to good use
I wonder what other brands are similarly compatible
I've been using my old iPhone earphones since I switched to the Pre last summer
Love them... great quality on the audio, too.
I think the factory iPod/iPhone head phones are garbage. The sound quality is horrible. I guess thats why they can afford to give them away at the moron bar.
My guess is though, if you have a set of good sony's that are iPhone compatible they would be Hero compatible as well.

Well I run a ic3rom 2.1 Rom(That just got release last night and is super sweet.)and mine is the Sprint Version so idk if you are on the same boat.
Maybe I'm just a music snob, but does anyone else think the Hero sounds like crap? If you don't you probably have never tried to listen to it over amplified speakers (like in the aux jack in a car). Total crappola Damn shame too, there was great potential for awesomeness.
Yeah I noticed that it doesn't sound all that great as well. espically with car speakers

I hook mine to the deck over USB. Deck handles all the decoding. Phone is just a hard drive to it.
Sounds awesome all the time.
This is great. i own the apple headphones w/ mic. Who knew?
What!?
I sold my iPhone 3Gs to get the money to buy this phone, and thought "I'll just sell the headphones because that button is useless."
Dammit...
yeah my hero sounds like sh*t in the car.
i have a pair of samsung earphones that work as playback and mic during calls, the mute button even works.
is it wierd my g1 soubded better over my car speakers, and that i had to get the usb to headphone jack adapter. ha!
I know the ones that come with the pre and the moment work as well. And yes the Hero seems to be eq'd very strange. Way to much mids and bass in the car makes things a tad muddy.

are you streaming music to a HU with a DAC, or playing on some BT headphones? Seems like if you stick to the smaller speakers it sounds acceptable. That may explain the weird EQ settings, trying to overcome the poor quality earbuds most people like to use.

Whoa! That's LOUD!

SO far I'm pretty pleased with my Xoom, however, I went to use my headset on it today and it's obnoxiously loud - anyone find a solution for this?
FYI - I have it on the quietest setting (the next level down mutes it) and it's insanely loud, to the point I needed to pull out my Nexus earlier to listen to music. Sucks.
Don't put it on a flat surface, it magnifies the sound significantly
Yeah, aware of that, but as my original post states I'm experiencing this with the headphones so the placement of the device is obviously moot.
Thanks anyway
I've used my iPhones headphones and never had any issue
Does your headset have any kind of amplifier or volume control?
This may sound silly but try a reboot. My I had similar problem without headphones on the first day.
The volume slider was working and the speaker volume was changing but not enough. The unit would go from mute to loud to LOUD.
Reboot fixed it.

No. I obviously thought of this.
Moving forward can people only chime in if they actually have solutions that aren't completely f'n obvious? I'm waiting for the next posts to be:
1. Can you try holding the headphones further from your ears?
2. Can you put cotton between your headphones and earlobes to act as a buffer?

Yeah... I snapped, sorry man, just getting frustrated with this, it feels embarrassing right now, I'm on a flight across country and (now have) my laptop plugged in for music and am using my Xoom for browsing and games... While the dude next to me is enjoying life watching crystal clear movies and browsing on his iPad.
Again, I know I snapped, sorry dude...
The main problem is that all of the solutions are pretty obvious sounding. I'll play nice
Only things I can think of is that the volume control is changing the notification volume instead of the media volume (you can control them with separate sliders now).
I assume cause you're on a flight you can't check the volume coming from the speakers, if you can, is it changing?
If all else fails you've got a bum headphone jack
What headphones are you using?
i wish we could switch places, my problem is exactly the opposite. I wish my headphones were louder. The speakers on this badboy are pretty loud but watching music videos and stuff with my headphones is kind of meh. I was riding the NYC subway earlier and was trying to drown everyone out but i could still hear the damn train and people talking over my music at the loudest setting.

I don't think that's it, I think it's a mix of the settings being way off on the Xoom and the headphones being pretty strong/good - I'll try another set of headphones once I'm local along with another Xoom next week when my other one arrives.

I live in NYC (East Village) and know exactly what you're talking about!
FYI - I'm using these headphones and would definitely recommend them, they do a great job with music and as a headset for my cell (Nexus).
Agreed. You suck man. Your Xoom is probably so ****ty for you cause how ****ty you are to people that try to help you.
EDIT: my bad I understand frustration. And I did miss that you said with headphines, I know what i said was obvious, but I didnt realize it was doing so with my speakers for a mimuye or two, I just sat there like an idiot like wow.
just try a few different headphones. I use my stock iPhones headphnes and the button that is suppose to volume up my iPhone actually pauses and plays the music on my Xoom which is sweet, the other buttons don't work and I haven't tried the mic
I have the same thing happen to me. The volume gets stuck at full blast even going to settings and turning it down the volume doesn't change. Its mute or full. Only way to stop it is to reboot. Trying to find a fix as i type this.
I have the same problem. My wife and I were just on a 4 hour plane ride so I loaded a bunch of dvd catalyst converted movies and TV episodes to the xoom to watch on the flight. Once I plug the 3.5mm splitter I have into the headphone jack the volume is strangely at full blast even though the volume control indicates that it is next to muted. The other thing is that the movie or episode always began from the gallery app with the sound coming from the speakers regardless of the splitter being plugged in to the jack, it took an unplugging and replugging of the splitter for the sound to be redirected through the jack again.
This sounds more like a software bug than anything. I think a reboot is your best option.
Sorry if it was already asked, but what application are you using for your music? If it's not the stock one, a reboot might not do anything. Try a different multimedia application and/or check its sound settings.
I use Poweramp on my Xoom and have had no issues. However for video I use Moboplayer and have this exact issue because the application has its own special settings for sound. Sometimes it's too loud others too quiet.
Hope some of this helps. Good luck.

Noise on earphone output

Hi!
I have i9100 phone and it is amazing, but i have a problem with earphone output.
I try it with original earphone and Sennheiser too, when it pluged, no music just surf in menu i can hear quiet noise. The noise is louder when i tap an icon and after that it fade.
In my opinion the music quality is not so good.
Have anybody the same noise?
Yep, I've got the same quiet noise on mine aswell. Also had it on my previous 4 Galaxy SII's. You need good ears to catch it, and it needs to be pretty much silent in the room youre in to be able to hear it.
Just got to live with it unfortunately.

same here - think this has to do with weak em shielding...
maybee supercurio can do something about that, but if it's really related to poor
shielding i fear this would not be possible!
Oh, that is not a good thing.
I agree, but it's by no means limited to the SGS2. Nearly every computer I've used (including Macs) have some sort of interference when doing CPU intensive work.
There's a long thread discussing this. A couple of us with high-end headsets got different results. I have Shure 530s and hear no side noise from the phone while idling or listening to music. Someone with the exact same headset does. No one knows why.

music volume really sucks!

I use poweramp for music and on headphones the volume really sucks. Its low and distorted. I have tried volume + but it is still real low. My samsung vibrant sounds great. Am i expecting too much from the transformer? Im on 3.1 if that means anything.
maybe worth trying a different headphone... mine works pretty well with the stock player..
I did not want to open a new thread but the sound on mine is really low too and just yesterday the was no sound on the right speaker, is there a fix or should i return it.
Thanks

Nah, I have dozens of headphones and they all sound low or bad on the transformer but sound loud and great on pretty much everything else.
I love my TF but as a sound device it just really blows.

DSP manager really improved the quality of the sound coming out. I was using some big driver earphones that would deafen you out of most devices so volume wasnt an issue, just lack of bass.
Use an app called volume+

Yes, stock kernel. Have no access to another TF.
Too loud for you? Man, are you over 50/60? J/K, my 50 year old GF always thinks my sound is too loud but I have above normal hearing and can hear a pin drop across the highway. So when I say the TF sound is low, its really low. And it sounds like ass too. I don;t know why they hype SRS speakers unless SRS means Sounds Really ****ty in Asus' kingdom. I am in the process of searching to a replacement HW dac for this as it is really bad. The built-ins are ok for built-ins but the HP jack should have much better sound with any headphone I put in. My cell phone sounds 100 times better and at least 4x louder than the TF.
Try grabbing someone else's TF and compare its performance with yours; it may have a defective socket. My first one had this horrible distorting sound from its headphone-out, turns out to be a hardware issue. My second one works well, and actually sounds nice - how does Zune HD-like sound quality and volume sound to you?
Headphone amp on the transformer is actually awesome. It's the same one on the Galaxy S. It just needs a better driver. Try Voodoo Control App Plus by Supercurio in the Market. I have it but it requires root so I haven't used it yet. On my Samsung Fascinate, it makes my in ear monitors louder than I can handle.

I just bought mine last week and headphone output sounds great. The speakers are not the loudest but the sound sharp and clear. Sounds like a hardware issue.

yes maybe we should have a standard on this. mine sure is loud. don't need to be louder.
Ok, latest update: Last night I was playing with the TF and using PowerAmp and playing the same mp3 file on both the TF and my Vibrant (Comfortable Numb BTW) and using same EQ settings, my phone was at least 200% louder than my TF using max volume and same headphones. I got pissed off at the TF and ripped out the jack and slammed it back in a few times.......well guess what, the TF volume went up about 50% more. Wondering if it was a loose solder connection or something. So, music is tolerable on my TF now, but it is still low compared to my other androidesque devices.
