A7 DOA - A7 General

Got my a7 a couples days back turned it on played around with it for a few minutes. I noticed the instructions said to run the battery down to charge all the way so i did. Plugged it in for a few hours turned it back on and was greeted with a screen saying it was charged at 1% and plugged in? Then a second later it said it was unplugged and auto shut down. I tried just about everything but it seems it would only start to charge when you plug it in then would stop. Sending it back to to the seller i sent a message to Elocity but i suspect it got sucked into a worm hole according to the comments i read here. Send back to the seller and am awaiting a replacment.
Anyone else have similar issues?
When you plug the device in while it is off what is the charging light suppose to look like solid or blinking orange?
Also this is my first DOA item i have every received!! Yeah! Thanks elocity!

Don't give up on it yet, it is a great device.
When it is plugged in and charging it will blink orange and when it is finished charging and the AC adapter still attached, it will change to a solid orange light.
Enjoy, well when you get it back anyway!

Where are you even looking?
Just look in the A7 Android Development section and look for the elocity mod 1.3 thread. |Done.

I've bought three elocity tablets without issues. Two from shopnbc and the more recent from tigerdirect.
When it is charging the light is a steady orange. When it is finished it is green.

60 Day old Orange M3100 DEAD

I bought my Orange M3100 about 60 days ago and it has been working well until today. Last night I plugged it in to get charged and this morning I noticed that my alarm didn't go off. When I looked at the phone I saw that the charge light on the phone was red; I had never seen it red befor. When I tried to turn on the phone....Nothing, I tried to do a soft reset, hard reset, remove the battery and the sim card put them all back in....still nothing.
I tried hooking it up to the computer, car charger, wall charger and still nothing. The only time i get anything is when i plug it into power and even then the only thing i get is a red LED light at the top of the phone.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how to fix it??
I really appreciate any help as I paid $575 for this phone 2 months ago.
Thanks,
David

There have been other instances of this problem. I had it once and it eventually came back after lots of fiddling. The last thing I did was to leave the battery out for half an hour - whether it was this that corrected fault I don't know. The issue ssems to be around the battery or circuit that monitors battery. I've not heard a definitive solution other that time!!
Edit: Also not unique to Hermes - seen this on several other phones PDA or otherwise.
Mike
Thanks for responding. I will try that now and let you know if it worked.
**Keeping my fingures crossed**
This happened to a wizard. really frustrating. I just had to exchange. But my m3100 ha sissues charging. sometimes when I plug it in it will behave like it is not plugged in. I fiddle with the plug and wiggle it and nothihng. let it sit and then on comes the charge light...but then some times it goes out. really wonky and scary cause I too paide 650 for my hermes and can't ecahnge it with my provider
Well I waited only 30 min and that didn't work...I will try 2 hours and hope it fixes the problem....

Darn!!
Curiously had this exact issue with a cheap office mobile a few weeks ago. Nothing would work. As it was chaep I took it apart- nothing loose or such like, put it back together and worked straight off. Not that I'm suggesting you try that!
I still think it will come good but what a frustrating wait. One post I saw was from someone whose TyTN never charged from the day he got it. How's your warranty/guarantee situation?
Mike
Well I am in the US and I bought it from a guy in the UK. I have sent him an email but didn't get a response. I am not sure if Orange in the UK will honor the warranty. As I said it is only 60 days old.
It is very weird. I think I will go to my local Cingular store and try a new battery, maybe that will help. I would rather it be a battery issue than something with the phone itself.

Sounds like a good idea. (guy in the UK - not a scotsman I hope!!)
Check this link. I know he's talking about car charger but the bit about having charger plugged in whilst soft re-setting might be interesting. Second last post page one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277742&highlight=reset
EDIT Just tried having mine plugged into charger and removed battery. Light instantly goes red. Suggests your problem most likely battery and not device. Might be worth trying also taking battery in and out whilst connected to charger.
Mike
Mike - Thank you for your help in this issue and the suggestions....looks like we are getting closer to a solution.
I don't have my wall charger here at work but i connected it to the PC USB cable while the battery was OUT, then I poped the battery in and the red light changed to Amber to indicate it is charging. The phone powered up after a soft reset. The battery shows 0% charge even though it was plugged in all of last night. It now seems to be charging, I will wait to see if the battery holds the charge or not.
Now I don't know if the problem is with the battery, charger, or phone
I guess I will be able to narrow it down in a few hours and see if the battery holds a charge.

Brilliant!!!
Sounds good. so the secret here maybe, taking battery out and in whilst connected to charger or usb?
I'm confident it will hold charge and things will be fine as mine is.
Like I said earlier it takes time and in the end it works fine again, BUT what precisely caused it to work again so we can help others? Because like me you've tried quite a few things.
Mike
I just hope that this will not be a regular issue.
What finally worked was:
1) Remove battery
2) Connect phone to charger or USB (USB in my case)
3) Insert the battery while phone is connected to charger
4) Red light should turn Amber
5) Soft Reset
In the 20 minutes or so that it has been charging the battery went from 0% to 10%

That sounds positive. Well if my experience is anything to go by I've only had it once in 4-5 months.
With your permission I think this may be worth a spot on the Wiki. I'd be happy to use your points above and also Cieplowski's points which appear similar but have a couple of other observations, and put these up as potential answers to this not uncommon issue.
I would not do this until over the weekend just to see how you get on, though I have every confidence.
Mike
I think putting it on the wiki would be an excellent idea.
Right now it is at 70% charge so things are looking good....
I will post back on Monday and let you know how the weekend went

[Update new HTC-Hotfix 18/09/2009] Battery Charge issue (no green) - bug

Several user in swiss forum (pocketpc.ch) reported on following issue.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Charging for many hours with the device in standby doesn't come up to 100%. Ends up at 70% circa (differs), LED is orange.
2. When switching the device power off, the LED becomes green in few minutes.
3. Now when switchin on again, battery status shows 100%
Seems to be an issue with reading or displaying of battery status?

What do you want to say? You can not confirm the issue?
Additionally I suppose that it is a software issue, the device seems to be charged.
Anyone else?
i have the same problem usually at 85%, if i soft reset then i have 100%
Yep i have excatly the same problem. I just thought it was taking ages to fix
Any Fix for the promblem? Firmware, software?
Guys, I had the same problem - search for rakh1 to find the thread. Anyway, after 2 hard resets it dissapeared. Must be a software glitch. Since then it has performed perfectly.
R
same problem here. hope they fix it soon.
I have D2 for 2 week now and this problem also happen with my D2 too. However I able to get it 100% charge while my D2 still on a few time. After A few test! I believe this problem is not a hardware fault! this problem is within rom itself. I did some test on my friend's D2 and almost 100% sure about this
Here is what I did so far....
2 week ago on my first receieved my D2. it come with original ASIA rom (can't remember rom date but it come with original radio).
Not sure that on original rom have charging prrblem or not (since I did upgrade my rom to new radio because HTC web have new update).
After update my ROM, I start notice this problem.... start wonder it's software or hardware problem...?!
Start Test.... first try to charge D2 while system turn off... result: the LED always green once it fully charge! (so this can confirm that not hardware problem)
Then again, test by charge while D2 is on... and result are same... never get 100% charge
So finally, Charge while D2 is on but turn the "Airplane Mode" on to stop all mobile and network functions. and the result..... it able to get 100% charge with in few time! still not sure what cause this problem.
Anyhow, even after few hour of charging my phone and never get green LED. if I soft-reset my phone, the batt will said 100%
Sorry for some of my comments is same as other people.... just want to let other feel better
i found out how this problem is to slove
hope i can help you.

Just a different well known battery icon (FInixNOverBattery) - i have it since one week.
Has NOTHING to do with the issue described in this thread.
Call me suspicious - but downloading a rar from someone on their first post??? Maybe you can give us some more info as to what the fix is - and if there is an offical source???

PS: mine worked fine for a few weeks but is now back to never getting 100% charge again I emailed HTC about it - suggest you all do the same to get their attention.

Same problem here, and i suggest everyone with this problem to mail HTC about it too! The more the better!
I am getting full charge even with WiFI turned on, hooked on 3G network.... I also have the latest official update WWE Asia.
Maybe the most of you did not notice, but it has to be a software-related problem and can be fixed by a new rom update.
Some phones seem to have this strange behaviour, some don't.
However, charging the phone when it's off, will ALWAYS charge it to 100%.
So the led will change from orange to green when it's done.
However, sometimes, the most of the times, when it is powered on, it seems to have difficulties updating the battery state.
To keep the best battery quality, you should not reboot your phone to get it green. Why not?
The battery was fully charged already, reboot it interrupts the charging (look at the led) and restarts it when the phone is booted again.. This means you charge it twice to 100%:
- First time when it did not show the right percentage.
- Second time, when it was already full (99% -> 100%).
As this is bad for every battery (look @ notebooks), I would advice anyone to unplug and reboot. One con about this is that the phone-information (last charge date, standby time etc.) will not be reset.
I just plug my phone in my dockingstation and it charged to 100% without any problem.

Hi, what ROM version do you have?

broken battery?

hi all, my first post. Sorry I'm late. I have a pop up message on my hd2, 1 week old, thats says " your phone's battery is broken and cannot be recharged. Please replace". i have spent the last week troubleshooting. I have come up mt. Tried 2 new batteries, flashed 3 roms, nothing changed. Anyone see this message before?
Nope. I think you should get a replacement.
When the HD2 is put on charge, I show a solid orange LED for a couple of minutes, then a flashing orange and flashing green.
Is this normal?
I think mine just has a solid orange light. Have you contacted HTC customer support?

Not normal. It should be solid orange when charging, solid green when full.
Thanks guys, that helps me out. I thought the flashing LED's were a good thing. Guess not. I keep wanting to blame WM operating system because that strange error message "battery is broken" had to have been programed into it right? I have looked into a sim problem, I checked the micro USB terminals, seem ok? Is it possible the orange and green LED's flashing back and forth represent a diagnostic code?
I appreciate any input. I will contact Htc tommorrow but I would really like to fix this myself.
I am looking into power differences as I am in Canada and this device came from the UK. Maybe theres a difference there giving me this strange error.
I had the same experience about flashing led while on AC charging, then it appeared some odd issues,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=606093
I still have this issue that charging on a AC power, therefor I have to charge the battery via USB to PC, and it is interesting that I am in Canada as well.So the Canadian voltage is not match HD2's ? thats funny.
I suggest you can release the energy to empty, as possible as you can, then recharge it via USB-PC.
I did contact to the HTC support, and seems they are extremely slow to response.
What a pain, a wonderful phone has so many bugs, at least mine is.
I had this message pop up the other night. Soft reboot wasn't working, but after taking the battery out and putting it back in again it started working fine.....
Just a note to put this thread to bed, i have talked to htc today in the UK and the USA and It is heading to the states for repair. Both countries said they had never seen the error message I was getting. "Your battery is broken and cannot be recharged. Please replace your battery."
If anyones interested I will let you know how this turns out.
I got a call from HTC HK yesterday, the HTC guy has never heared my problem as well, he didn't provide me any solution, I said I will contact them again after I get my new battery and this issue still exists.
I hope a battery replacement will solve my issue, otherwise, I have to send it to repair as yours.
Similar Problem
I had the same green LED, pause, orange LED, pause, etc. pattern and my battery would not charge; turned out to be the middle prong on my HT2 that connects to the battery; another person had posted the solution of bending that middle prong down slightly and it worked. Good luck.
i had the orange/green led a couple of days ago and after taking the battery off i noticed one of the contacts bent over after bending it back problem has gone

This LED flashing warns of a malfunction in the charge circuits.
There's is a hardware fault that needs warranty attention.
Or closer inspection of barry contracts.

[Q] Boot problem - Resolved

Hi.
*I have read all 16 pages of the forum, and haven`t find any solution for my issue.
Have rooted with TouchNooter 2.1.31. Could not log into Youtube(error 401) and decided to go back to stock.
For that I did standard Erase&Unregister and then used recovery image from thread (n2T-Recovery_0.2.rar)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289233.
Recovery went well. Got my nook back to stock 1.0.1 version.
Then I wrote nook_1_1_update.zip to nook`s partition and waited till it reboot and begin to install.
When the message "...Install is in progress do not power off..." appeared I went to sleep.
In the morning I found still the same screen and device not responding to anything.
I thought that maybe it discharged and have plugged it into USB, message appeared that "charge is in progress". After around 15 minutes I tried to power it on, but got message "...power is to low wait 15 min...". I left it plugged in and went to work. When I came back the charge led baecame green, but still the message "wait 15 min"
Now I`m here. Have tried all the buttons and times combinations suggested to bring it on but still nothing...
Thaks in advance for any help.
PS have no backup images

Does it try to reboot when you long press the power button? (10-15s)
No matter how long I press, nothing happens, at all.
When I connect it to PC there`s some new device blinking in "Devices and Printers(Win7)" something like OMAP3630

When you have it plugged on the charger, does the led go orange, and does the led go green for a few seconds when you try to reboot it?
In the morning it was orange when I plugged in so I decided it is discharged and left the device for day. Now the led is green(when plugged to usb) and does not change.

Charging from USB can be very unreliable, use the charger.
In fact my NST is in the same state as yours right now because I left it in a half-booted state last night
My screen is blank and the only reaction I get is a small flicker on the LED and a tiny visit by the OMAP device
I know from experience that trying to charge it from my USB hub will not work, or take days, but if I use the charger it will wake up in about 20 minutes.
Arrr, havent ordered the charger >_<
Wait... I have connected it to my note and led is orange now, so the charge process is going on. Ill wait a while, maybe it`ll get some charge to boot.
Thanks for support ros!

Uhm, did it come without a charger?
Mine came with one although it was useless to me as I live in Norway, it kinda doesn't fit the sockets we have over here
I just use the charger for my mobile phone, it can deliver a lot more than my crappy USB hub
It now comes only with usb-cable, without charger. I live in Ukraine so saw no need to order charger too.
After 20 minutes still battery too low. Is there a possibility that I could damage the battery in some way?

Like Googie says, just give it time.
Mine usually awakes after 20min on my charger, trough a USB port it might take a lot longer depending on the device you're charging from.
And no, your battery is not in danger.
Agreed. When it gets completely drained it can sometimes take 20 minutes or an hour sometimes I've noticed even longer before I could get mine to start properly. The major issue though here will be if it stopped in the middle of an install you might need to use n2T-Recovery_0.2.rar to get it to properly boot before trying to update again.

It's 100-240AC, 50/60Hz.
You need is US/Euro adapter only (not transformer), cost $0.5.

[Q] Yet another Nook not holding charge and hanging at the boot screen

Google shows me I'm not even remotely alone in my trouble, but with the way tech works every problem is at least a little unique. I'll give a rundown of what I've down and whats happened up to this point.
First, I bought it used from Amazon. Very Good condition from a seller with 99% or whatever satisfaction. I think I've bought from them before, actually. So while this isn't a new device, I know I wasn't scammed. It was also factory reset and I'm assuming it wasn't rooted, though admittedly I have no idea how to check on a Nook.
Second, when it arrived the first thing I did, naturally, was turn it on. Plugged in the Nook to my computer, it booted up just fine, I registered, and loaded one a few ebooks with Calibre. The books opened up, they looked great, we were golden. That was when I noticed the battery indicator in the top didn't have a number on it. It was solid black with a ?. I thought that was weird, so I tried rebooting the device. That was when I was hit with an update, it downloaded and installed then rebooted. Here's when it all went to crap.
Third, I can get into the device. If I hold the power button and wait a bit it takes me to the homescreen where I'm met with a 0% Battery warning saying to plug it in or the device will shut off. Waiting for this message do disappear seems to give me normal access to the device, except the battery indicator is still just ?. This still happens now, after about 10 hours of charging.
Fourth, plugging in the device to anything be it wall charger or computer causes the device to reboot back to the Read Forever screen. Even if the device is completely powered off. It just hangs at the boot screen and goes nowhere. If I hold down the power button, or power + n, all it does is flash the screen to blank and then goes back to the boot screen. If I unplug it and hold down power it goes back to the previous problem.
That's everything I know. I seem to have the proper Nook micro USB cable, but the adapter is a little white Chinese looking thing so I know it's not the official. So I've switched to my Nexus 5's micro USB cable since I know it works and plugged it into my PC. The charging indicator is on, but thanks to my minor colour blindess I'm having a hell of a time deciding if it's orange or green. It's either green, orange, or yellow for sure though. Right now I'm going to go to sleep, let it charge through the night. I've had a similar problem happen to my Nexus 7 where it wouldn't turn on, and a nightlong charge seemed to fix it so who knows, this thread might be useless in the morning.
In the more likely event that it's still very useful, any help would be appreciated. And please try to keep it simple. I'm not new to technology or Android in phone/tablet form and all the associated hairpulling, but this is literally the first time I've ever dealt with an ereader. I'd like to get this solved at home, since I don't have a warranty and the price to ship this thing back to the seller would make this end up costing more than a new one would have since I'm Canadian and the seller isn't.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: After a night of charging, still 0%.
This, unfortunately, is the sign of a factory buggy (for lack of a better word) device. I doubt there's any hope. Sorry about that.
Keep me updated.
I think that there might be software to blame. My Motorola Defy also had that sort of weird battery behaviour after one of factory resets. Since then I have to install a patch written by one of XDA members every time I make a reset. But it works. Unfortunately I have no idea if it can be helpful in this case. (I'm refering to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34590229&postcount=1 )
Nonetheless I would seek some slight hope in disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.
Alright, so. Progress report:
I tried the 8 failed boots trick to reset the device back to the original firmware. This brought me back to square one. The device worked, I could load books on to it via USB, and read them. But the battery indicator was just a question mark. Going into the settings revealed that the battery was at 100%, or at least claimed to be. But hey, I could read on it so I figured I was alright.
Now, a couple days later, I just woke up to find it with a new problem. Pressing the little N button to wake it up isn't doing anything. It won't respond to holding the power button down and my computer wont pick it up when it is plugged in. The charging light still comes on but I don't know how much it can be trusted.
I'm going to let it charge for a bit, but I'm beginning to think the battery is just toast.

Hi, I just went through something similar 48 hrs ago. The NST is frozen, stuck at reading forever. Before that, the battery icon had a '?', and the device info said battery status was "unavailable". Plugging in to charge had a solid green light.
I read around, and what worked was to open the case, and disconnect the battery. Google said to wait 30 mins, I waited 1. Re plugged in, put it to charge. The LED turned to orange, and 15 mins later, the NST booted. All good now.
Total cost: set of TORX scredrivers (you need a T5).

Okay, so. No T5 but I managed it with a teensy weensy flathead. Unlugged the battery, left it that way for about 20 minutes, plugged it back in, then left it to charge. 15 minutes later I came back and viola, it works and the battery is reporting it's remaining juice. Thank you very much, that seems to have done the trick.
You know, this might be the first time I ever managed to have a tech problem solved entirely by a forum.

You realise that that voids the warranty you get from XDA?

I knew the Internet would be useful for something, one day

It's a used device, there was never a warranty.
Looks like the problem is fixed. Great! Sorry I was inactive.
Later!
