Here is a quick rundown on the LCD quality. I am busy so it may be a few days before I can post more.
The LCD is better than the G-tablet's screen. The Adam does not give me a headache like the gtab did. The viewing angles are still shallow, and in portrait mode you must still tilt the screen to one side. Its perfectly usable, it may not be up there with more costly tablets, but for the price, it is one of the better screens.
Build quality seems pretty solid. Unfortunately, I think the rush to get these things built is causing some issues. I had a lot of dust under the touch screen. So much that it was distracting. I had to take apart the device to get it out... and it wasn't easy. It is a major pain in the ***. That doesn't include the pain to get it apart in the first place. My advice, don't... just don't. After a lot of work, frustration, and two cans of air I did manage to get most of the dust out though.
The software is a little buggy. Nothing major, just random lag, odd behavior, and usability issues that popped up here and there. More annoying than anything. The touchscreen does not want to behave sometimes, and that is the most annoying bit. I put a custom ROM on it, one that is not stock based, and it works much better. Everything is smooth and well behaved.
All this waiting and anticipation, and in the end, I'm over the tablet thing. Nothing on the Adam, its a perfectly capable and fine tablet. It is a modders dream, much like the gtab was, but with official company devs willing to get active in the rooting community. (as evident from one of the custom ROMs created by a Notion Ink dev)
I will continue using it for the weekend, but I may end up selling it. I think I will be better served by a new laptop. One that is a bit more portable than this 17 inch behemoth I have now. I still have my GF's Archos 70 to mess around with in the mean time.
In conclusion, good hardware, passable screen, software needs refined a bit more, and lots of potential.
please do. I am looking forward to seeing how the cheap version performs.

Anyone know of a review of the LCD version? Have any of those even shipped? Well if not, I should get mine next week, and I will post a review myself.

Please do. I am interested in the LCD version too.
damn i thought this was a review of the LCD model like i'm getting. it seems everyone has gotten the qi
Very curious about the lcd, as it seems pqi has disappointed thus far.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
well considering that all the pixel qi models were gone first in ordering. Id bet that next to no one in the first batch of deliveries got an lcd model. or maybe the lcd just doesnt have problems like the pixel qi and the owner are to busy playing with their awsome tablet. My lcd wifi model ships the 31st. cant wait
i should get an invite for next preorder and i'd buy an lcd because i use it only at home so doesn't worth to take a qi version...really hope that someone will review this model before i have to place my order.
I read a new review by a e-reader site say that the PQI screen isn't bad at all, it just has its strengths and weaknesses.
I will post a quick review and try to get a video as well. I have a point and shoot, but the video from it is not the greatest quality. I do not think my SLR has video.
finally somone got LCD version....
here's the review

I wrote up a quick one on the site I write for. My brothers came in yesterday. The LCD is great, viewing angles could be a little better but the screen is clear and quite vibrant.
Link to writeup
Thanks a lot for the review. I'm glad the LCD can display colors better than the Pixel Qi Variant. Could you make a video comparing the screen to a Laptop/Desktop screen or your Vibrant?
Hello
I read on notionaddicts forum, that LCD screen is very clear in sunlight.
What is your experience using it outside ? Could you make some photos or videos using it outdoors in sunny day?
Yup still waiting on mine.
Got mine in today. Will update later.
man, I really cant wait, for mine to arrive....please get those reviews out, as many vids and pics as possible please
I just received mine yesterday. Pixel Qi variant. It works well for its intended purpose, but I would probably choose the lcd if I had to do it all over again. I think. I'll miss the color saturation more than I will take it outside. I did have it in the sun today, and it was quite readable.
Sent from my Adam using XDA App.
Still using it, but still may sell it. Anyone interested, let me know, I would sell it at cost.
I have received my Adam LCD 3g version, we are slowly becoming friends. The LCD viewing angle isn't the greatest and seems to be worse in low light conditions. Of course in direct sunlight it's near impossible to see, but with some shade outside it's OK.
Colours are good and it looks nice, I have one green pixel that is always on, I guess that is acceptable, although with modern LCD's it is a bit unusual to have a dead/always on pixel.

I wanted to bring some pictures I took last night to the forum. As a Xoom owner (now former, just took it back) and in anticipation of the Transformer's release, I scoured the internet over the past few weeks in search of some good comparison pictures between the Xoom's LCD and the Transformer's IPS LCD. At the time, there were not a ton of photos comparing these two specific devices.
I decided to setup my tripod and try to capture the viewing angle differences of these two displays while I still had both devices in my possession. Both devices were at 100% brightness, and I let the camera choose the shutter speed (aperture priority - Nikon D200). Some of the shutter speeds selected made the overall image darker, but it still gives a good idea of the color and contrast differences between the two displays (in addition to viewing angle differences). My goal wasn't to compare brightness - both devices are more or less on par in that area.
If anyone was on the fence regarding the two devices, maybe these images will offer better insight into one of the most important aspects of a tablet - the display. The price gap is big enough, and the screen technology is different enough (all in favor of the Transformer), that someone being on the fence regarding these two devices is hard for me to imagine. You never know though.
You can view the flickr stream here. (25 total images)
The flickr stream description mentions this - but I'll mention it here too: The Xoom is on the LEFT or the TOP, and the Transformer is on the RIGHT or the BOTTOM in the pictures.
I hope someone finds these pictures interesting.
I have attached one of them here.
Wow....look at that difference. Are you able to do the Asus vs the Acer? Or anyone able to?
couple of the pics xoom is better (or you can say brighter), but the most is to Transformer.
I don't like the strong brightness on the xoom specially in the reading part. I like feel it will hurt my eyes after while of reading. On the other hand, smooth colors in the Transformer, and easy on the eye.
Thanks for showing us the differences.
Thank you for taking the time and posting this.
Not as dramatic a difference as I expected (colors wash out, but things are still legible, unlike the gTab), but the Transformer still wins, especially with the price difference.
Thank you for taking your time and posting the pictures.
The xoom looks a little overexposed, but kind of I thought there would be more different. Seeing them side by side I think the xoom, not having a IPS screen, has a very nice one (compared to others I have seen in other tablets).
Regards.
Yeah, good job!
The transformer is a clear winner here.
Thanks for posting it. This should make it little easier to convince a couple of friends who are on the fence (iPADers!).
x2 on the Xoom versus Transformer - that picture is very accurate.
The Xoom also has a bluish tint that bugs me (common TFT issue, I believe). The Transformer IPS screen color balance is better, imo.

You are right ... it is not terrible - and to be honest, I probably could have continued to use the Xoom and been perfectly happy. The price difference played a pretty big role and contributed a lot to wanting to switch to the Transformer. I suspect that there would have always been a thought in the back of my mind bugging me about how the Xoom's screen "could have been better."
Overall, I love the difference in the screen though - it has certainly helped me in a number of practical ways where I was previously disappointed with the Xoom's screen performance in regards to viewing angles and color. Specifically while the Xoom was sitting flat on my desk at work - things were hard(er) to read due to the wash out and loss of contrast at the angle I was viewing it at.
There is another Xoom screen artifact to mention here too. If anyone has ever seen a Xoom's screen when portrait mode, then maybe you have noticed. You could see horizontal lines in the actual panel itself for every row of pixels - most noticeably on a white background. I've read other reviews stating the same thing. I have a friend at work who also noticed the same thing on his Xoom. It wasn't noticeable when in landscape orientation. It was easy to overlook though and not a deal breaking issue for me. The Transformer's IPS LCD does NOT do this.

I don't have pictures but I compared the Acer to my NC yesterday, also an IPS screen, and I can say with certainty that I saw really comparable results to the Xoom v Asus comparison. Even dead on, Acer had slightly washed colors when compared to an IPS screen and at angles > 45... well it was pretty hopeless for the Acer while the NC was perfectly visible and vibrate.
Regardless to say, Acer went back to BB last night and waiting for my Asus to come in tomorrow.

Music? Did you say music? Now I must know.... is your ID the same on last.fm, because anyone who listens to Shearwater and The National gets a thumbs up from me!
this post makes me feel so much better about buying the transformer having cancelled the Xoom, as pc world delayed me. I saved 100 pounds too! well 50 including the dock im still waiting on...
I have had my xoom for almost 3 weeks now and have no problem with how my screen looks from any viewing angle cuz the main angle I'm looking at is right in front of me. That's how all these devices are designed to be looked at. Not like a tv from various different angles. so I don't even understand why people complain about how a screen looks from a different angle. If its really that important to u plug it up to your tv via hdmi. Then see if u can still complain. I love my xoom. Yeah the price is a lil steep. But I work with electronics and if there's 1 I've learned in 12 years its you get what you pay for. Wanna cheap price. More then likely you'll have a cheaply made product

Well, I think you don't truly appreciate viewing angles until you have a tablet that excels at them.
And this is important for those of us with kids that love fingerpainting or playing Angry Birds with you! I love how they are now able to sit next to me comfortably and not have to peer right at the screen to get the viewing angle just right.
So, I've been taunted by the Acer the day before launch at BB and had someone open one up to demo for me. After somehow avoiding the purchase I did more research and found the Asus release date and figured I'd wait. Well we all know how that went..
Anyhow as I sit here reading thread after thread deciding on the Acer now, or Asus later, I am torn about the screen quality. I have heard many things like "as good as Ipad" "way better than Xoom" the amazingly grammatically correct; "it Sux" or just "terrible"
I don't care about the dock....at all. Battery life, build quality and screen crispness i do care about.
I'm hoping this thread can be to discuss the goods and bads about the screen in as unbiased a way as possible. I would love for people who have interacted with both chime in!
The screen "quality" is fine. Text looks great (read for over an hour with no eyestrain). Videos look good. Viewing angles are even fine, which is unusual for a TFT.
But the glare!!! Yikes. I realize that the glare probably has more to do with the glass than the screen technology, but the bottom line is that they both contribute to my enjoyment, or lack thereof, of the screen.
I have a Nook Color and I can place the A500 and the NC right next to each other and the difference is dramatic in terms of glare. Sure, the NC has some reflection, but it's a great deal more muted than then A500 which is practically a mirror.
I don't have any particular problem with the screen. It looks sharp. Runs in 1280x800 resolution.
Some people complain about the grid that can be visible, but I have NEVER seen it during normal use. I didn't even know what people were talking about until I held it at weird angles directly under a light source (as in...10 inches away from my lamp).
The thing is a finger-print magnet though, so if you have OCD issues with that sort of thing you will always need to be replacing screen protectors or having a microfiber cloth in your back-pocket.
I picked one up from bestbuy a few days ago. The screen is very nice. The grid does bother me, but it's not often that I see it.
Games look good, videos look good. Everything is snappy
I don't have a transformer or an ipad to test it against but I think the acer is worth buying if you don't care about the keyboard dock on the transformer.
The screen itself is very good with decent colour and contrast with excellent viewing angles. As others have said though, you do get glare from the high gloss glass panel and it attracts fingerprints when you just go near it. With the right lighting direction I can see the grid in the same way I have seen it on virtually all capacitive screens.
Would I use any of this against the A500? - no. These issues are minor to me but I can see how for some they would be a more major issue.
I think the quality is really good but could use some tweaking. Why in the world are there no apps that allow you to tweak gamma contrast color and all that? Calibrating would make it much better but for some reason we are expected to keep it as delivered?
Also slightly unrelated, has anyone noticed if you use a 1280x800 image as a wallpaper it looks liek crap? What resolution do we need wallpapers to be in? The stock ones are too borring.

Look, the IPS display is "better"....that's that. If you need something with a gorgeous screen, wait.
Is the A500 screen terrible, bad, etc.? Not by a long shot. It's bright, crisp and the viewing angles are very, very good. The 'grid' you read people referring to, is barely visible and you'll only notice it on very lightly colored, black or white backgrounds, and that's with your face plastered to the screen. It isn't a deal breaker for many people but it might be for you. If you can afford to wait, wait....and make an informed decision and one you won't regret once you're able to compare them side by side. Unlike the TF, the A500 is in supply and I doubt they'll be running out any time soon so time and supply are on your side (for the Acer, anyway).
here are a few pictures of the iconia and transformer screens. Pics are captured by motorola atrix camera. Hope it can help with the buying decision.

hahaha, nice to have a neighbor on this forum. Yep, the transformer has the best screen but the iconia is not that bad. I got my TF at Fry's. I saw an employee there carried 3 TFs to the stock room. I jumped on them right away, got one for my best friend and one for my brother. Both of them want the TF so bad. As for me, I am settled with the iconia at Best Buy. I just like the build quality and how it feels in my hands. If I knew, I could have got the last TF for you
appreciate the thought
I'm still deciding between android or I pad. I really feel I pads polish in multimedia is a big plus. I'm trying my roommates xoom and youtube doesn't even run without stutter :/
Netflix is nice on I pad too
I do love the PC I sh feel of android. Much more customizable
Back light bleed through
Some transformer owners have complain about back light bleed through when watching videos.
hey in the past week i have tested the view sonic gtablet , the archos 101 and the playbook . the view sonic and the archos dont even come close to what the acer is i picked up the acer after i saw it at best buy today and i was impressed i also picked up the xoom last week but returned it after 24 hrs because the price 599 was on my mind the whole time i was playing with it .
the screen i feel is like the apple ipad which i have . i really can not notice the difference. and if anyone is thinking about the gtab and the archos dont get them if your not holding it at the right angle all the time your not going to see much.
I had the gtablet for 3 weeks and recently sold it and picked up the Acer A500 yesterday. I was also comtemplating on buying the Xoom at Bestbuy, but after playing with both tablets I couldn't justify spending the extra $ on the xoom so I went with the Acer and so far so good. It's like night and day compared to my old gtablet.

LoL. Please clean the screen of the Iconia What a difference...
I'm a Transformer owner, but over the weekend I had a chance to play with both the Xoom and the Iconia in store.
The screen on the Tranformer is definitely the best of all three tablets, and this was clearly evident even without having the Transformer to hand to compare side by side.
However, I would still rate the Iconia's screen as "very good" (the Transformer's screen would be rated "excellent"), and significantly better than the screen on the Xoom (which I would rate as just "ok").
Regards,
Dave
P.S. Just an FYI, but I'm keeping an eye on the Iconia forums because I'm thinking about getting an A100, not to troll regarding A500/Transformer comparisons!
if you want to see the real difference between the Iconia and Transformer, take a pic from the side with about a 150 deg angle.

It not a regular TFT screen , in fact there are 4 differents technologies ( TN, MVA, PVA, IPS )
Acer choosed PVA for the A500 , it provides the highest contrast ever measured on a tablet (1126:1) when the Ipad and its IPS Screen is rated (960:1) , but the latency is not as good as its competitors (even if asus came out with a trick , to correct that , by inserting a black picture every 3 images )
People tends to think that IPS is superior , but in fact it depends of the usage.
A500's screen might not be the best screen in the world , but it is for sure a very good one.
Hi guys, I am itching to buy a note even though I am with Sprint and would nver switch to ATT. I keep convincng myself to wait but, just not sure this kind of screen realestate will surface in a phone again. I have read just about every forum and review in the past several weeks- at least twice...lol.... The only thing that is holding me up is warranty concerns and the pen tile screen. I have been bothered by every pentile screen I have seen and can clearly see pixels when others claims that you would never see them with normal use or that they don't not exist. I would love to see one in person to aid my buying decision. I am not at all concerned about the size, only the screen as I tend to watch movies, read ebooks, and surf the web more than anything? Please let me know, thanks.

I look passed the pixels thing and just took the plunge and bought the Note
been happy and no complaints.
I see people talking about volume issues, screen issues, screen lock issues the only issue I had was the size. it's too small for my liking and that's cause Im coming from the Tad 7'' used as cell phone for 1 year.

Im in Tallahassee Florida with my 24hr old galaxy note. I guess im no expert at screens but this screen is beautiful. Ive had the Tmobile Vibrant and recently just sold my release day international sgs2. The screen is not as bright as my sgs2 but its still top notch. Its crystal clear. You will NOT regret your decision.
Yesturday at work, I watch all my coworkers jaws drop at this device. Most have Moto Razr, iphone4s, streak, incredible s2, and some other new android devices.
Seems like samsung devices are subject to witch hunts, if you look hard enough your bound to find something. I can say with certainty, that I will not have another device until Galaxy Note 2 is out. Mind you Ive had every highend device thats been released in the last 2 years.

I truly don't understand the fuss over the iphone screen. I was without a phone for a couple of hours yesterday and used my coworkers iphone. I had to zoom in on every page unlike my sgs2, infuse and now note. If you were watching me using the phone, you would have thought I was blind trying to navigate ebay, xda, fedex, usps and a few other sites.
Not going to go into long detail but all in all I liked the tmo vibrants screen better than the iphones. Sgs2 and note in my opionion blows other devices out of the water.
Im no sales man or speaker for samsung, but I couldnt imagine using anything other then amoled displays. I went a total 4 weeks without my sgs2, and in between I had a atrix and htc inspire. They both were sold the moment I found a buyer.

Thanks for the feedback. Thats exactly my point. I hated the vibrant's screen because the text looks like Lego blocks. I have a Sprint GS2 and the resolution just isn't good? enough as the text could look jagged and blurry sometimes. I would match prefer the sharp and solid - e ink type of resolution/text on say an IPhone 4 rather than the sometimes oversatuarated color on the Samsungs. That's why I ask about the IPhone 4 screen, not so much for color or contrast but for the sharpness of text sine I read alot; trust me I would never buy an IPhone with a baby screen size from three years ago. The HTC Rezound is the only screen I have seen thus far that can match an Iphone 4 in this regard but that screen size at 4.3 has now become too small for my taste...lol...
I got my turbo the day it arrived in the store. I opted for the ballistic 64 gig version and right from the start I want blown away like I hoped It would be. The battery should be a monster but didn't last any money than my. S 4 or my note 3 but it did charge quickly. The screen was impressive but wasnt bright enough for me outside. The sound was loud and clear. But the wow factor just didn't grab me like my old razer maxx did when it come on the scene. I kept it several days playing around with it but decided I would go for the note 4 instead this time. Maybe the next moto will be the one not the nexus 6 cause the note is at the limits of how big a screen I want. I did like the android on it as it was closer to being pure vanilla android certainly comparison to the note but just want the one for me this time. Just thought I'd share . What do the other owners think? Was it what you wanted it to be? Just curious. Jesse

What do the other owners think? Was it what you wanted it to be? Just curious. Jesse

Maybe look into the Sony xperia z3v supposedly it has a longer lasting battery than the turbo. Can take better pics. A brighter screen. No warping of the screen. It's water proof. I am looking between the turbo, Sony xperia z3v, note 4 and nexus 6.
Yeah its not a bad phone at all just didn't get me all excited like I thought it would. Is a damn good looking phone with the ballistic material especially the 64 gig version with the splash of red lettering at the bottom. I always liked Motorola phones my favorite being the RAZR maxx which I still have and use. I just decided to go with the note 4 because I enjoyed the note 3 a lot and since I had a buyer it didn't set me back much to get it. I did consider the the Sony which looks to be a nice device but I have never had any expedience with one or know anybody that has . The only thing I know about it is what I have read some good some bad but you get that worth all brands. I'm sure you'll enjoy your motoand I imagine I will have another one again some time. I will say if you put a glass screen protector on it don't use the Verizon brand cause they are not made like the older ones. I usually do a really good job of putting them on with no bubbles or dust under them but the problem was it just wouldnt stick. I showed the salesman the first one and he give me a second one to try and I had him do it and it went worse for him and it didn't even cover the screen as well as it should have. Anyway have a good time with it. Jesse

That's what I did and I love the z3v. Better camera by a mile and better battery that the turbo. I believe that the turbo was way over hyped...moto cameras are so bad and advertising two days on the battery? That's just plain wrong.
Wait holy crap the only reason I didn't get the xperia is because I thought the battery was normal on those. Also the xperia on display at my Verizon store had a million dots on the screen. All in a matrix. Depending on the angle you view it from you can see these bright little dots perfectly lined up as if its part of the hardware. That was a deal breaker for me. Can someone verify the xperia for me?

As far as I know, I don't want a phone with a screen so poorly designed that you can see the multi touch matrix almost 100% of the time unless its midnight.

The dots are because of the screen type. My lg g2 was the same way, it isn't a huge deal but if you get a LCD display you will be able to see them..
I'm still debating on going to the z3v. But battery life seems to have improved dramatically for me. So we will see.
I picked up turbo and z3v for two different lines. Eventually one will get swapped for an iphone for my wife. I like the moto software, and all the sensors, but i just about always go for the xperia. Frankly it feels premium like an iphone and the camera is amazing after a little learning curve. Ive been taking photos of fast moving children for the last two days with excellent results. The lcd matrix is visible in glare, but ive never noticed them unless i was looking for them.

For me when I was choosing between this and or the xperia was that the screen at the store has foggy lines vertically on the screen when using camera only. Also that the chassis is more z2 than z3.

Same here the battery has significantly improved too on my turbo. Many people don't realize the battery needs to break in and get used to use

The battery may get a little better over time but the camera on the turbo will forever be a total joke the z3v smokes the turbo in every aspect. I want to love the turbo but it's not in the same league.

I don't know that I can say that at this point. So far I think between the two design wise it is preference on looks. However from looking thru the z3 forum, I'm seeing lots of quality control issues including camera issues where it will overheat quickly. That and light bleed, and misaligned screens and cracked screens and backs.
I'm not trying to downplay the z3v and I don't know if those issues are as prevalent on that version as the actual z3.
The only problems I'm really seeing on the turbo is people expecting more battery life out of it.
I don't take a lot of pictures so camera don't really matter to me.
If the z3 is actually a better phone I'm going to go swap out my phone for the z3. But I mean at the store the specs are listed almost exactly the same. I'm confused how I blatantly missed a comparison that made the obvious choice a z3.
Are you willing to clarify the specs that smoke the turbo? I need to do this before my 14 days if I make the swap.

Specs and on paper the turbo is clearly the winner. Better display, bigger battery, newer processor.
However posts and what I've been seeing the z3v is beating the turbo with screen on time.
I personally would have swapped already for that phone, but then I think why not just go back to my g2.
Same screen, has wireless charging, same size display. Still get that dot matrix from the LCD. And a good camera. Only real difference between the two is lgg2 is I believe a snapdragon 800, not a 801.
I just want a new phone and am hoping this turbo works for me.

The z3v is a z2.. Literally. And the moto turbo uses a Sony sensor. I'm not defending turbo or the z3v.. But just stating the facts. The z3v is an old phone before it even came out.

All that I can say is that I tried both extensively and the z3v has a far better camera and better battery life. The moto camera is a typical moto camera, you need perfect lighting and a non moving target to get any kind of decent picture. It's useless unless you are taking pictures of trees. The battery on the turbo is also sub part to the z3v. These are facts, not my opinions. If you have a turbo you know what I mean.

Im satisfied with the Moto Camera, ive only done extremely low lighting pictures and of my cats jumping around. Appears to catch detail easily with moving targets. As far as battery life goes. Im going on 22 hours with 4.2 hours screen on time and I'm at 37% - the battery seems to get better every day. I like the idea that the z3v is waterproof... but visible touch screen matrix, an LCD display with much lower resolution than the turbo, and a previous generation qualcomm? Im not trying to create a debate here but i think "smoked" was the wrong term to this phone. The visible matrix seems like such a huge design flaw. I have never in my life seen this on a phone nor do i think its acceptable. It really killed it for me, complete deal breaker
I cant repeat it enough, the visible dots and that being normal? that truly boggles my mind. and from Sony? I expected more in terms of common sense.
The only sense I can make out of the reason they used this kind of display was so that the phone's touch screen would work well underwater..... but unless they are specifically marketing to a huge group of Scuba Divers this seems like the dumbest decision ever made by a large company's development team. Just mind boggling to me.

If your saying that your turbo is taking low light pictures of moving targets then I have got to call a huge BS. That is just simply not true. Sorry but there is no need to make stuff up like that.

I have the note 2 and still love it and I wasn't going to consider the note 4 but it seems that nobody really had complaints other than touch wiz itself. But I don't know if I could go down in size.
Are any of these phones less prone to cracked screens and scratches?
