An Invitation to all Devs (my token of appreciation) - Vibrant General

First of all please don't flame if you think this post is in the wrong section. I posted this here because the devs are always in this section.
To Mod: Please move post if you think not appropriate
To devs:
I am a Network Operations Administrator at Sony Network Entertainment (San Diego) and currently our company has several job openings. The devs here are amazing and I've seen how dedicated you guys are. If you are looking for job or want to move to a different job, I am willing to be your reference and willing to back you up to get the job. The job listing is below, and i can only back you up if you apply at our San Diego Campus.

If you find a position, please PM me so that I can give you my details and also get your name so that if HR will contact me, I would know who am I backing up for.
Thank you for the amazing ROMs, apps, tweaks, and mods that you guys have provided. Hopefully I can return the favor this way..

An interview with an android developer. MAXISMA

Hi guys and gals, first I'll introduce myself properly. My name is Chris, I'm 22 and live near leeds in england. I'm currently setting up a small blog interviewing android developers to give the general public a little look into the life of a developer. My aim is to try and help people realise that developers however great or small have a life beyond programming. It will also help advertise work created by some of the lesser known devs out there.
Currently I have only interviewed one developer and am uploading that at some point today, but I do have a list of others I intend to speak with.
I've even had a suggestion from one of those developers to interview an XDA moderator, to show you guys how much junk they have to put up with and clean on a regular basis to help give you the nice friendly happy community we have now. (Mikey, your name was mentioned but any mod can participate)
So without further ado, the blog address is interviewing-devs.blogspot.com
As a comic twist to the whole thing, I intend to do the whole thing from my G1 which is proving a little complicated as I seem to be getting a few FC errors with androblogger, and the blogger website looks a little funky on the G1.
As a quick note, there is no profit to be made by myself doing this, but I will be placing donation links for each developer interviewed.
So, if you're a dev and want to join in, let me know. If you know a dev and would like to see an interview, let them know about me and get them to contact me
Code:
Interview with Maxisma online now
Many thanks to all the devs on my list so far for making this whole thing possible, and also a huge thanks to everybody here for having a community worth joining.
You should interview the Wrecking Crew to show what we have to put up with too.

Mornin I sent you a shout out in another post. It looks like it's gonna be me and you and codini today. Gridlock told me he ain't gonna be on til like 8 tonight. I think he just don't want to get flamed like friday.
Interviewing devs is nice but if you want to catch the entire view of the G1 hacking/modding/rooting whatever term you want to use world. Then you need the point of view from new users, seniors, and devs. Remember devs don't deal with problems unless the problem effects alot of people and is verified by themselves or people he trusts. Also there wouldn't be an interest in a dev's interview without the masses following his work. Get those interviews first so you can ask the correct, hard hitting questions to the devs.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm at work at the moment but once I get home, Maxisma's interview will be posted, and I'll move onto another dev. At the moment probably the biggest names I have are Cyanogen and manup456. I did ask haykuro but he hasn't got back to me, and I'm still asking other devs.
Your constructive critisism is greatly appreciated, and ideas taken on board
Ladies and Gents, the second interview is underway, and you're all going to be surprised at who I'm speaking to. Keep watching this space for more news. Hopefully I'll get everything asked and answered before Monday, but due to a time difference of several hours there may be a delay, just depends if my dev and I can get online at the same time.
But anyway, provided everything goes well, it should be finished by Monday for your reading pleasure.
If you have any questions you wish to ask a dev not already interviewed, let me know and I'll add it to my list

Relentless Appz - What's up?

Mods,
Are the Relentless Appz posts being deleted because they contravene rules #7 and #11 about selling?
If so, fine, but if not - are they otherwise dodgy and to be avoided or is it just a forum rule thing?
TIA
NB - Don't mean to stir up a fire. Feel free to delete this thread and just PM me the answer if you prefer.
I too would like to know. Anyone have any first hand experience? I'd considered giving their rom roaster a try. Thought it was a bit shady for them to make their member name "admin-xda." That made me take a step back. Anyone with any first hand experience with these guys?
Well, this is going to get bumped until I get an answer (or it's deleted...).
Anyway, I've purchased the software and am getting active and responsive support from the developer. Having said this we're working through some installation challenges (might be my system, we don't know).
I've taken one for the team and now have considerable experience in packaging and bundling roms so will apply this software to my Kang-o-rama build to see how it suits.
I will write a review of the software when I have used it sufficiently and post that here on XDA.
In the meantime, I recommend you wait although so far I feel this guy (the dev) is honest and just trying to do a good job. We will see.

Just curious - what is it that you want to do with your ROM when cooking it yourself?

Well, to be honest I'm sceptical it will help me. But, it may and I'm willing to check it out on behalf of other XDA users and report back. The 5 quid isn't much to me but may be for others.
Also, because I've been building Kang-o-rama I think I'm in a good position to objectivity review the software.
On first appearances and based on the specs I think this has the potential to be quite a useful resource for junior rom builders... but that remains to be seen. If it works then really, it will be quite a nice solution for many because it's apparently a little more flexible than the various online kitchens.
Additionally, my communication so far with the dev has been positive and it really does appear as if he's got a personal interest in helping out the community. Of course I can't vouch for this fully yet.
Finally, if it actually allows me to save my build as versioned projects and simply execute the build from a single interface it may actually save me some time.
Having said all this, I've now practically automated my entire build so I suspect most of the value of my purchase might just be the potential review on XDA... we will see.

As I'm certain you know, there are many facets to a situation; and contrary to any announcements or statements you may have seen, this was not a targeted attack by a specific moderator. The owner of Relentless Appz clearly understands why the account suspension was placed for a third time.
I'm not going to get into providing the details about the action taken. I will say however, that several weeks of ongoing deliberation and discussions amongst Moderators/XDA Admins led to this action. As a sufficient number of forum rules were violated, and in the best interest of the members of this community, it was unanimously decided that this was the most appropriate course of action.
Please visit the Relentless Appz support forum on his website for assistance with trialware/purchased versions of his applications.

Donation allocation

I have RARELY posted anything here on XDA, but have quietly enjoyed the benefits of this site. I started off with the HTC Touch Pro2, then moved to the SGS Vibrant. I have been through hours and hours, soft brick after hard brick...then success, of downloading then accomplishment. I have always felt a little guilty of donations to one specific DEV because as I understand, EVERYTHING is somewhat "leaked, or used" from something else. But, I would like to contribute some way to compensate the DEV's for their time and hard work. If it is possible, is there anyway the moderators could create a "standard pool" for donations, then electronically divide them according to file downloads by the user. I know this may be next to impossible with all the linking and such, but maybe a DEV can lock a thread just for DL that allows no copy/paste for threads. I may be reaching here, just a concept that I think would be great for users to help positively motivate the DEV's XDA has. Seems as of late, DEV's are bailing because of unrecognized work, stupid bickering, usage of ROM info with no credit...ect. I personally, absolutely and greatly appreciate the information available here at XDA. Just wish there was a better way to contribute other than singular donations. Thanks
There are too many (obvious) problems with this idea that it's not even worth discussing. This thread is going to turn into a bickering bucket of trolls lol
As the idea is great and well mereted. The issue will turn into well he stole my work and recolored it. We have seen that already here. It would be nice to see something like that thou. since there is so many devs and I may change from week to week on what I use. Thou the line is getting small since they have moved to there own websites and all the other issues.
Faldiin
That's unfortunately not something we would likely want to get involved in. Donations are made from a user to another user, as a token of gratitude. If it becomes based on downloads, what about the rooting guide I wrote, which didn't have any downloads? (just as an example).
What about the guy who compiles the Q&A thread with ten posts full of answers, none including a download?
I still feel it's best to reward individuals, whereby you choose to donate a small sum of money to someone who has helped you.
Just my view on this.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!!!

Hi folks,
I've spent a few days looking over the forum and have to say. good work
There don’t seem to be many issues, everyone seems to be getting on in the spirit of XDA.
I'm a firm fan of ‘if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it’ so I'm not going to be flying in making huge changes or swapping things around. this is your forum I'm just here to help keep things nice. if anyone has any ideas of how to improve things in this area - (not XDA as a whole) please drop me a PM, and we’ll put it to a vote. if it’s a good idea I'll change it if i can or I'll push for the changes with the senior team.
While this may be a legacy forum it’s clear there is still a lot of interest and a lot of life in this device still keep up the work and we’ll keep the phone alive I want to start on the right foot so a FEW IMPORTANT REMINDERS
please take the time to read - and for regular users - re-read the forum rules. it’s a good thing to remind yourselves of how we work http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=341
All the rules are important but to focus on a few.
we are here to help and learn. people do make mistakes. I don’t like users being flamed for asking a question. I'd rather we educated and pointed people in the right way to help them for the future. it’s OK to say use search - it’s not OK to abuse people
I also don’t like people putting a lot of work into something and getting flamed either - a lot of the work posted is a work in progress - people share this out of the goodness of their heart and also so they can get positive comments on how to improve. Again it’s not OK to abuse people cos they shared a work in progress.
sharing work - many developers are happy to share their work with others and in some cases one persons work is used as a base by others. - If you want to change someones work and then release it as your own - ASK FOR PERMISSION FIRST AND THEN LINK TO THE ORIGINAL DEV IN YOU RELEASE!!!
don’t post or link to warez - they will be removed.
Please report any issues or concerns to me as soon as you can using the report button or by PM- I'll deal with them.
Thanks
Chris
