I noticed in the about dialog that cell radio was using a bunch of power while the device sat off. I never activated it, and I have all boxes for wireless data unchecked. Any idea how to turn the cell radio off?

Yep, as I said, that box is unchecked and has been since before the last reboot. But mobile data and cell standby are still using 3% of the power.

Is anyone else having intermittent drops while connected to wifi? I've noticed my wifi drops and reconnects especially when there is heavy wifi usage... I've tried TKIP and AES with no better luck with either one.

wifi
last night when i was trying to download an app from marketplace?
Yeah, I've just started noticing that. It wasn't doing it most of yesterday and I was using it pretty heavily. It started last night when I noticed both the 3G and wi-fi icons were on. I restarted wifi and it still showed up like that, so I rebooted. Now it seems like it's always on 3G when I pick it up.
What kind of router are you using?

I used to have this problem regularly with mine and my girl's Droids on 2.1, and appeared to be related to using secured wireless networks. I was able to set up a test wireless network with no security and the disconnects stopped happening. Switch back and 5 to 15 minutes later I was disconnected again. I never found a fix for it on 2.1, but the problem completely went away with 2.2.
Unsure if they're related, but from what people are describing, this sounds exactly like the issues I used to have prior to rooting/2.2 on our Droids.
I noticed that it was with wep encryption only. I looked through wpa and etc and there was less dropage. Now, i don't know if your all aware, the ipad does the same thing. The only place i seen it hold up well was the wpa and the hotspot app on board.
I wonder if this is just the new radios and modems in these devices?

Well I'm using WPA2 on a d-link 855... I thought about trying no security, but hate the idea that I may have to do that.

Diego dude, you're running 2.2 on your droid? I wish we could do that on the DX...

OK. Let me start by saying I'm not an expert but I may have found a solution. Go to wi-FI networks and go to wireless settings. Then click on options hard key and choose advanced. then choose Wi-Fi sleep policy and set it to never.
So far so good for me. Let me know if anyone has any luck.

Yeah, I'm still having major issues. My phone will drop WiFi very often. Im going to try unsecured next. I've tried changing from tkip to are, tried turning off the sleep function... nothing. It happens most frequently when I'm doing heavy traffic like from or two another computer, where it maxes out the bandwidth capabilities of the phone...

My issue is that some apps don't work well with wifi, like google voice when sending txts (it just hangs then says times out)

Have you double checked not only the advanced settings under Wifi for always on, but which battery profile you're running? The default profile is the Smart one, which disables wifi/3g after so many minutes of being idle after peak hours.
i will try this thanks i do use the smart profile
I read several articles and then under wireless security changed the WPA Algorithm to TPIK and have not had a drop or WIFI issue since. Let me know if it resolves your issue.

I have the stock Android 2.1 on my phone and I rooted it but nothing else. For some reason my phone will not connect to my home WiFi. I put in the WEP key and it still says disconnected. Not sure if root had anything to do with it since I only assumed WiFi was working before I rooted. Any ideas? WEP is right, not sure what the "Key Index" is...

I would hard reset.

Is your router setup to only allow N connections? If so, the default wifi is only for G and B networks unless you have updated the kernel.
Could it be because you're a dirty gator? Sorry, I know that's not helpful, please forgive me. Go Noles!!!

Harrison, I am certain that's not the problem.

I hit connect but the status under the WiFi setting never changes from disconnected.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Well first of all root def.ly is not the reason. I would try a few things such as reboot the phone and router. Next I would try to disable the security on the router just for testing. see if you can connect without any key. Also try connecting to an open Wifi connection that is available. This open would narrow down your problem to either the phone or your home network. If you are able to connect to other wifi connection then the issue is not with the phone but your home network.
Mine seems to not want to connect to the wifi until I go into Settings - Wifi, then suddenly it decides my wireless router is there and connects. The only other app on my phone that can activate the wireless radio is Wifi Analyzer, but I have that feature turned off.

From the manual, page 124:
"... Turning Wi-Fi on and connecting to a wireless network
From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings.
Tap Wireless & networks, and then select the Wi-Fi check box to turn Wi-Fi on. The phone then scans for available wireless networks. ..."
Though I have mine on ALL the time and the percentage battery used by wifi is minimal. The screen takes a much larger percentage.

Just download a wfi on/off app form the market like curve fish...
The WiFi is switched off then after 5 mins I check and WiFi is on. So the WiFi doesn't drain the battery?? if this is true then my problem is solved.

So, did you even check the battery performance with WIFI on
In any case, just put a WIFI widget on your homescreen, you can then manually turn it on and off as you please....really easy
O checked last night and the WiFi doesn't affect the battery very much. I just added the power dashboard widget and manualy turn off WiFi.

In WiFi advanced settings there is an option to keep wifi on while sleeping.

Mine has the same issue, even with it set to stay on during sleep.
I unchecked the wifi optimization to conserve power setting and that solved it. Somewhere on the google boards, there is a bug report on it.
I have the setting 'Keep wi-fi on during sleep' set to Always and have the Wi-fi optimization checked and my wi-fi has been flawless.
Going to try that now thanks

Hey guys, I have a slightly related issue.
My device just won't turn its Wi-Fi off when it goes to sleep! I've tried both the advanced settings of, while plugged in and never, and both are not working add evidenced by the battery graphs.
Any fix or solutions?
- As of now I've taken my device out of its flip case/stand, assuming that the magnet in it has something to do with the Wi-Fi remaining on.

Hey Guys, this issue has been bugging me for quiet some time:
I have been using the Soft Access Point function of windows 7 via my wlan card for a long time and it didn't really give me any problems until recently.
It goes like this:
I activate the network, my phone connects. So far so good. But it keeps dropping out and reconnecting to mobile network all the time. That happened with other devices like my Netbook as well, but never this frequent and only when I wasn't actively using the connection. When I got the nexus 4 it started happening more often. And in the recent days/weeks very frequent. Sometimes only minutes after connecting. Also when the connection is in use, even during VoIP calls.
But I'm not sure whether it's a problem with the phone or the network setup... Any ideas?
Oh yeah, I'm running unrooted stock and the PC is Win 7 ultimate x64
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I forgot to mention: To fix it, I have to disable and then enable the network again. It always shows as still active on the PC but doesn't show on the phone before I do so.
