Ok i am just going to stay on my EM+ without the discount but I made the mistake of choosing the subsidy by opening a new line.
anyone know if I can just cancel that new line that I opened and just pay the other 350.00 off. i know google has the equipment recovery fee so how does that get charged?
Unfortunately since these phones are purchased through a "3rd party" (i.e. Google rather than directly from T-Mobile) they get you coming and going. Two different parties have a piece of you now. Google charges a fee because the subsidy they would have gotten for your contract gets pulled and they need to recoup the money. T-Mobile then charges a cancellation fee as a standard practice for you walking out on all that revenue you had "promised" them in the contract. I think it is $350 to Google and another $200 to T-Mobile.
If you are within 14 days (or 30 days in California) then you can return it and buy an unsubsidized full price version. You'll get your money back and won't be charged any subsidy recovery fees or contract cancellation fees, but you will have to pay for cell phone usage during the time you had it.
Also, you can always try to talk to T-Mobile and they may be able to waive the cancellation fee to convert your EM contract into an EM+ account without you having to go through the entire process. It would still trigger Google's "equipment recover fees", and it would again help if you were within the "buyer's remorse" time frame, but it might avoid having to do the whole return and configure a new phone process. In either case it will depend a lot on your begging^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hnegotiation skills...
I signed up yesterday so cant I just cancel that line from t-mobile with no charge then just pay google the other 350?
If you signed up yesterday then just return the phone. You have 14 days to do that (30 in California) for a full refund minus $45. Do that and then re-order without a subsidy. It's cheaper.
Yea that was my original plan but wouldnt it technically be the same price without all the wait?
I paid $180.00 then decided i didnt want the contract so cancel that and pay google the $350.00 to make it $530.00 total.
EDIT- I should clarify I already have the EM+ plan and added a line. I want to keep the EM+. Just cancel the new line I opened.
Just cancel your new tmo plan - there will be no charge from them since you signed up yesterday. Once google catches that you cancelled and didn't return the phone I would imagine they would just charge you the $350 on the credit card you used originally to pay.
thats what I was thinking as well. I sure wish google had a phone center set up for the nexus so I could just call and have them take it out now. So four weeks down the road I get a charge.
Do you guys think that it would be the 14days that you have to return it. After the 14 days if they check and see its canceled would they charge me then?
I purchased on subsidy and then switched to the EM+ and haven't yet been charged, and I got it on the first day. So, I'm not exactly sure when they will charge the remainder.
yikes! hopefully they do it in a reasonable time frame. guess I will just be sure i have that 350.00 in there at all times.
That was a few days over 14 for you. I was sure it would at least come out by then.
Maybe because you didnt actually cancel your contract you found some sort of loophole?
Ok so I Spoke to a t-mobile rep and said that you have to return the phone to google first, then I can cancel the contract. Darn, looks like im going to have to do it the long way, ship back and wait then buy unsubsidized :-(

The Google terms say that "this is just an equipment recovery fee" or something like that and go on to say "your provider may also charge you a cancellation fee". Check on that because the $350 is just what you pay Google, but T-Mobile can also charge you.
It may be that they don't, the Google terms don't say that they definitely will, they just say that their charge is independent of any cancellation charges, so don't assume that the $350 is the only charge you might pay...

well its a new line so I can cancel within 14 days with no charge. I discussed this with a Rep and I pretty much just have to send it back, cancel the added account, get my refund and then buy it unsubsidized so I can stay on my EM+ plan.
Call T-mobile and cancel the line
Since Google sold you the phone, just call T-mobile and cancel the line. If they say that you have to send the phone back just tell them you already returned it to Google. ( normally when you buy a phone from a t-mobile store with the subsidy and contract, you have to return the phone before you can cancel the account). Because the handset return is not going through T-Mobile they have no way of tracking the return to Google.
I am not sure how long it will take Google to charge your account, I would assume it will be fairly quickly after the 14 days or cancellation but it could be months. If Google is waiting on T-Mobile to pay them the commission for activating your new line it could be months. T-Mobile commissions are paid to 3rd party dealers a month behind. Google gets paid for your activation in February if you activated in January. Because of that it may take a while before you get charged for not keeping the new line. This is also why you have to keep the new line for 120 days, that is the charge back period for 3rd party dealers with T-Mobile (if you cancel within 120 days, Google looses the money from T-Mobile)
Just to clarify... if you cancel a new T-mobile line within the first 120 days, Google will charge their ERF. They have your credit card on file and you agreed to letting them charge it again if you cancel.
how can i get free activation for the htc evo 4Geee!
any advice guys
or how much is it going to cost or it depends on the store ...........
or is it mandatory they activate it at the store or can u just doit ur self and do it free of charge
Act fee is $36 for new lines and $18 for upgrades... As of now, no corporate Sprint store will sell a "cold" Evo... When you buy, it will be activated in store at time of purchase. The only time there is no activation fee is if you purchase at full retail price.
i called sprint to ask them about adding another line ,and if they would waved the activation fee??we already have 3 lines and 1 airave ,,just renewed 3 lines in march for the hero but now i want the evo?so i told them i just wanted the evo and that was the reason for adding the line, and i wasnt even gon use it,well the rep said that starting july 5th theres a rule that no activation fee would be waved,so i told him to please put a note on my account and he did,,so just call and tell them u want to add another line just for the evo and ur not planing to use it u just want the phone,,,and how great their service is ,,,it worked for me,,,,by the way i ve been with sprint for 6yrs
or if you have a corp discount that has no activation fees.
Credit Union member discount waives act fees, upgrade fees, and is a 10% discount. For new accounts, start with that. Then, after a couple weeks, switch to your larger employer discount (if one applies). If you already have a corp discount larger than 10% on an existing account, dont switch. Not worth it in the long run. However, if your corp discount is 10%, switch to credit union for added savings.
oh ok i see so lets say i preorder at best buy or schack none of them are charging them correct its sprint thats chargeing me right and i get 25% of my bill and phones that i had activated all fees been waived hopefully mine will ima call sprint right now
even if u have a corp account i get the 25% off my bill too and have managed to get activation fees waved but by calling not automatically...
guys i just call sprint and they said i would get free activation so i got that question of mind
did u asked for it ,to be noted in ur account some reps just say yeyes to wathever and than when u call for the credit theres no note and how u track the rep??????so ask for it to be noted and than call later and check...

I'm gonna be signing on with Sprint for the first time when Evo is released. I'll be doing the entire process with Best Buy because that is where is pre-ordered. I called Sprint and I will be getting %17 discount. Do you think Best Buy will be able to apply that for me + waive the activation fee?

The 17% discount is to your bill, not the phone's cost and will be applied to your sprint account. They cannot waive the activation fee either.
Sprint phone rep told me that if you order from the website that there wouldn't be any activation fees. But that means you'd have to actually wait for them to sell it on the website which I guess won't be til the 4th...

Yeah I know that the discount wouldn't go towards to phone. Read from couple of accounts that people got their activation fee's waived because they have a corporate discount. But I know that Sprint is waiving the fee when we deal with them either online or in person.
So, I went through and exercise in futility yesterday / last night. I know there were a number of us who preordered when premier was having that issue where we didn't receive our $100 rebate. Several of us posted that we called support and we're told to call in when we receive the product and we'll get our rebate/credit. Well, I did this yesterday and I was met with a brick wall.
Essentially I was told I have to return the phone and reorder to get the rebate. How dumb is that? I was on the phone for over 2 hours trying to get this resolved and was obviously bumped around a number of representatives. It was even noted, in my notes, and I was told they could "force" customer care. Well, when on the phone with customer care (again), that took in excess of 15 minutes and I finally lost it. Told them to send me the return mailing info.
Talk about a complete joke.
BBB received a complaint about AT&T last night.
I'd recommend all of you that were told the same thing to call because you might have some issues..
I am holding off on ordering mine until it is squared away. Either that or I am just going to go into the store.
I tried again online today and it would not let me add the data package to get the rebate online. I talked to an online representative via the chat window, and she confirmed that there is an issue with the rebate online.
Oh well, I should probably sell my captivate first anyway.
So with the $100 rebate what is your final cost ?

before taxes, $199
I never committed to not saying "I told you so" so...I told you so.
AT&T's premier website was so completely hosed up for the first 24-ish hours of preorders that I just said screw it.

that was helpful....
I have avoided ordering online from premier for now because from day 1 it's showing 299 + 18 upgradation fee . And nowhere I can add data plan or get a rebate.
Lets hope this changes soon.
I had this issue. I called support. She said my data plan was not compatable with the phone. She changed my data plan (still unlimited, and actually cheaper) and when I ordered through premier online it gave me my 100 off. Got my phone yesterday!
So there is a simple fix... you may just have to call a couple times to get the right person.

I wasn't trying to be helpful - I was trying to warn people of the dangers of clicking OK to a price with the promise that it'll be reduced later - that's foolish. There's ZERO guarantee that AT&T will honor the reduced price that a random customer service agent promised you over the phone to make a sale.
I ended up just going in to the Corporate AT&T store to preorder last week after a 90 minute nightmare call to Premier.
highlights?
"the iPhone uses special data that can only be used with an iPhone, you can't use that kind of data with a normal smart phone, so you can't keep your unlimited plan"
"Premier is a separate business unit from AT&T and we do not have the same options and plans that regular 611 has"
There's more, but that's enough. The store had an issue with my legacy family texting plan not allowing them to apply the upgrade discount - they just took it off, had me buy the phone with the discount, and then put the old texting plan back on.
I'll never call premier customer service again. I actually asked them to remove me from the program, but they couldn't even do that right. They transferred me back to normal Customer Care to have that done, dropped me on the way, etc. Ended up keeping the discount while getting a promise from CC that i don't have to call premier.
So I picked up my xoom on launch day and was forced to signup for the minimum 3g data. I decided to try out the 3g service and ended up using it for an hour or so figured I would just get charged for just the data I use. The same day I called up and cancelled my service and was told that I would be credited for my activation fee, and will just be charged for the service that I use.
Yesterday I received my verizon bill and the charge for full month of data usage $20 is on there ans also the activation fee of $35... I gotta tell you I was not happy! I called them up and the rep told me that I will be credited for all of it and should have a $0 bill. I will check back in tomorrow since I dont trust them anymore.
So just wanted to post here to warn you if you called to cancel your service with Verizon.. call back again and make sure u are in fact cancelled and will be credited. You cant trust Verizon's shady practice....
Where did you pick up your XOOM? I got mine from a Verizon corporate store and I wasn't forced to sign up for any 3G service. I currently only use it as WiFi only.
I got a letter from Verizon that my statement was available for viewing online and that my lines have been disconnected. It mentions paying the bill online with no amount.
you should get a refund. Verizon cancelled having to get a data plan before the release so your salesperson was either poorly educated or wanted the commission.

I purchased mine on launch day at Costco, I believe they are still requiring people to sign up for monthly service..
All wireless carriers are like, they try to get whatever they can out of you anyway they can. I had sprint try to charge me for an activation fee 2 months after they waived it lol.

I picked mine up last monday, tried BestBuy, but they were sold out, so I went to the Vz store, and they were trying to force me on a data plan. I told them they were wrong about their own policy and that is was already widely known that Vz actually canceled that requirement. The guy talked with a lady rep that tried to look important while avoiding customers, and she made some calls and did some browsing on facebook or something, and 10 minutes later, I walked out with a Xoom without a 3G plan. Supposedly that morning the plan-requirement got canceled. SUUURE, LOL

Exact same thing happened to me. I got mine through Best Buy.
It's likely that the bill was sent out automatically based on the transaction that occurred in the store, and that the cancelling hadn't processed through the system yet. That, and some stores hadn't yet gotten word that the policy regarding a required 3G activation was no longer in effect.
So, no reason to think that Verizon's doing anything "shady" here.
If you actually look at the bill it will most likely be for aprox three days and billed in advanced. This is standard for all new service.
With disconnecting anything paid forward and not used is automatically refunded to you.
So the bill is most likely correct.

I agree and not only that but you can't just "pay for what you use" since you decidedly used the service you [should] have been forced'to pay for a month. Under an older plan if you would have used the service and then cancelled in the middle of the billing cycle it would have prorated your bill and your alotted amount of usage (example. If you use 200 MB and then cancel the next day with the 1gb plan then your 1gb is prorated to about 34mb making you liable for 164mb at whatever the rate overage). You knowingly using the service and signing the contract accepted the terms and conditions and I wouldmt be surprised if he ends up with a bill much like you stated with a months usage and a month in advance. I don't see how the OP starts a thread "don't trust verizon" when he/she knowingly signed the terms and cond and also used the service. Next time watch ehat your doing and you better be happy you got a rep that helped you out because he/she def didn't have to.
did they refund ur activation fee?
As the title says i bought a prepaid samsung galaxy 2 from walmart that came with $30 credit for the monthly4g unlimited data plan.
I tried activating phone online in tmobile.com but getting errors (sim and imei invalid). I tried calling them and they said I need to activate it where i bought it. I then talked to walmart.com live support and they said they cant do it.
Has anyone had this issue? If so how can i get my phone activated. I will highly appreciate any help.
well if both walmart and Tmo is refusing to help you out
just return it for your money, not worth the trouble
yes, it was on the news, people having trouble activating the unlimited $30 plans
it was a problem from Tmo
you can try to escalate the issue and call CSR again demand to speak with a manager, tell them the people at Walmart are too dumb to help you out, since Tmo is the service provider, they are on the hook for level 2 tech support

Agreed. Or Wal-Mart may let you exchange it for another S2.
Did they sell you a Tmobile sim or Straight Talk. I thought the $30 plan was through Walmart only or am I mistaken.
ok fixed the problem
For the people having the same issue all i did was return the one i bought at walmart.com. Then i bought the same phone at my local walmart. The store rep setup my account with the $30 unlimited data/text and 100m plan. Cant wait to start trying out some roms!
Do it for Zyzz!
The Walmart I bought my S2 with the $30 plan (the 5GB data, unlimited texts, 100 minutes) had no clue what they were doing, and didn't even set anything up. I went to a T-Mobile store, not knowing this plan is a Walmart exclusive plan, and they set me up for the $30 30mb of data, and 1500 text/talk plan, since they gave me the $30 card when I bought the phone from Walmart. So, as I'm setting up my email account, updating some apps, it told me I went over my 30 MB threshold. I definitely knew something wasn't right at that point.
The next day, I went over to another Walmart where they actually knew what they were doing, and got my account setup on the proper pre-paid account, and I was even credited a free month of service to my account for the trouble. So now I have everything setup correctly, and won't have to pay until November. Sorry for all my blabbering, but the point of my post is that, it really depends on which Walmart you go to, and if they know what they're doing or not.
The only minor knit pick I have to say about this promotion is that they only offer the phone in black, and not white like I really wanted.
