[Q] 16M colors? - XPERIA X10 General

Hi. I remember that when Sony made the update to 2.1 they said that the 16M colors will come in a later update, along with multitouch and some other stuff. Was it implemented in the multitouch update? Will it be included in a later updato, or is it gone as Froyo?

Do you really remember correct?
I've been reading a lot, but I've yet to see SE mentioning 16M colors in a future update.
If you have a solid link, please post it.

were about as likely to get 16 million colours in an update as we are people posting questions in the Q&A forum

Japan is set to update to 2.1 in September...

Has anyone in other countries got any news that they will see 2.1 soon?
Where did you get this info from?
http://japanese.engadget.com/2010/04/28/xperia-android-2-1/
Ah, reading it again said it wasn't for sure - and was based on an UK announcement ^^;;
I remember i've read somewhere (forgot where) a Rogers rep. saying X10 will get 2.x in September.
So, i assume is true now that 2 sources made the same announcement.
Problem is, we need firmware updates in meantime to fix those damn bugs we have.
September seems likely for 2.x... hopefully 2.2.
However, I would caution believing anything Engadget posts about the X10. They have posted numerous unsubstantiated rumors about the X10 over the past few months, and most have been incorrect.

Well, then let's hope Rogers will push it
If not, i'll really have to debrand it ...
Yeah, I'm thinking the same. If baseband .16 is released for the X10a before Rogers releases it (which is likely), I'll then de-brand.

2.1 Eclair Date Confirmed

Finally we have a date that we can expect 2.1 where we waited so long for
Week 38 (19.-25. sep.) for Android 2.1 Eclair on Xperia X10!!!

Looking forward to the update! i must say i find it a little bit ironic that my old phone (xperia x1) can run 2.1 and mine can not atm hehe

"Finally", we've known for the last week when to expect it.
No news yet on when X10a will get the update but I read on Brazil SE site to expect their update in Oct-Nov 2010.
More than the 2.1 update I am looking forward to SE's Windows Phone 7 announcement. The UI on WP7 looks very stylish and smooth.

The Arc is all set to get the Honeycomb Update

Like the title says, the xperia arc is promised to get the Honeycomb
Update, smashing rumours that dual core processors nd other **** is required to run Honeycomb.
Here is the link for more reading.

At the VIP event they also confirmed that 2.4 will be available very soon after Google releases it!
After experiencing with X1 and X2 and then X10 and knowing SE's incomplete support of their products, I would like to assume that ARC will come with 2.3 and die on 2.3 and I hope I stay with this assumption without putting any pressure on myself that why my phone doesn't do this or that
This is what SE has been promising over and over for every generation of their phones and they fail to deliver, don't believe it then go back and read SE history. This is their repetitions in failure for every device they put together.
But this won't stop me from buying the ARC.
The new phones are different. Google brings the OS, Qualcomm does almost all drivers, and SE does Timescape, the launcher, and a few smaller apps. Most of the customizations are just some reskins, and Timescape has no real integration with the rest of Android, making it a lot easier to update without causing problems. Sony Ericsson said yesterday in Brussels that they plan to at least keep updating for 1 year after release.
The X10 was different. It was SE's first Android device, and Timescape and Mediascape were heavily integrated with critical parts of Android. They've learned from their mistakes with the X10, the new ones will do much better!
I wouldn't exactly agree with that.. SE promised that they would upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1 and they did.. and in doing that they realised that they had made it inordinately difficult for themselves to do so.. They say that they learned a valuable lesson from this.. and that the arc (and it's siblings) are built in a more modular fashion, allowing them to add their overlay UI etc without a massive coding exercise. I tend to believe that assertion.
Whether or not we'll get 2.5 (or what ever comes after 2.4).. I don't know.. but Android has matured significantly from 1.6 to 2.3 and future updates are less likely to be as significant (IMHO).. so perhaps not so big a deal anyway.. ??
We will be getting 2.4 (which still is Gingerbread but more optimized), after that 3.1 (Ice Cream) should follow, merging 2.4 and 3.0. As long as we get Ice Cream I'll be happy!
couple of points to the OP though.. That article was written in January.. and 3.0 is for tablets.. The next update for phones is 2.4 (Icecream)

2.4 will still be Gingerbread, and will mainly contain performance improvements for dualcores, but no major new features.

That article has no sources, and similar ones have been posted in january too. Sony Ericsson has already got 2.4 running on the Arc, people tried it, and it's not the Gingerbread-Honeycomb merge. 2.4 is still Gingerbread, and if the next release will not be Gingerbread2, we'll be seeing 3.1 next. There will be no more new codenames in the 2.x family.
Everyday.... day by day...... I get disappointed by XDA member ( not all of them )
can't believe that there are people think that Honeycomb will be released for mobile handsets while Google itself stated it's only Tablet's OS. Yes, many developers have ported the Honeycomb into their HTCs' or Samsungs', but have you really tried it? fonts are un-readable, resolution is not that good and you can't read anything from it. Basically it was ported for testing and to play with for a little while.
2.4 is still Gingerbread as many members before me stated and Sony Ericsson already planning to release it when it's available. Regarding the difference, its main idea was to make dual-core applications run on a single core processor, along with minor changes.
please don't believe everything you read, it's really getting annoying how many come here with rumours just to start a useless thread
Best Regards,
Just thought of sharing this, if you don't like it then do us a favour, don't even look into this. Since I saw this on a couple of sites, I thought of sharing it. Even engadget had mentioned such a thing in early Feb I guess.
Yes I know icecream is dubbed as 2.4 which will contain elements from both gb and honeycomb, scheduled to run on non dual core smartphones. I have also seen some arc's testing the 2.4 os
I didn't know that the post was outdated, never the less lets move on, one should not get annoyed with every single thing. There are millions of things out there in this world to do the same. Might sound rude but shouldn't unless you're soft.

Knowing Acer, August 2013.
Yup, Xoom WIFI was getting the 3.2 update a few hours ago. The most interesting feature is probably the zoom feature: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...new-zoom-mode-for-viewing-non-honeycomb-apps/
Non-Honeycomb apps support? Even with pixelation, Hell yes!

Sounds nice. Unfortunately the biggest problem isn't the resolution. The biggest problem is attempting to get them to run without FC 80000 times.
Anyone know if 3.2 supports the HSP for bluetooth? I want to be able to use my headset with this bloody thing.
from the original article. link
3.2 will offer some bug fixes and improved hardware acceleration, as well as updates to Movie Studio, Movies, Music and widgets.
I wait two more weeks and if they would not release their f***** 3.1, the tab will be sold for a better product with better support.

What you've been reading has not been confirmed by any official Acer source, it's just what people have posted saying they were told by some guy on the phone at Acer. That's rumour, not fact.
In fact, over the last couple of days, several people HAVE been reporting getting the 3.1 update. Try taking a look in the dev section.
I think people often forget.ideally when devices computers get a update its all about fixing or providing enhancements. But often we forget that updates that come to soon.updates that are not carefully debuged and checked will almost always break something else. I would rather have fewer but larger rolled up updates then the tiny uncontrolled untested to be true. Remember your windows machine. Updates are a mess and daily. And always risky even more so on firmware.
patience wins over in the long run.
With that said.
ACER GET IT RIGHT don't make us have to wait to long or we will all stop breathing and go into a anti update shock

It's not the update that I am concerned about ( XDA always comes through )
It's Acer's damn un-organized way of having so many build #s !!!
One thing that having so many build numbers tells me:
They have no clue as to really ironed out the bugs, that's why their are so many different builds !
with Acer.... even among their same region ( Com_Gen1.... or EMEA for example )... even with those.... there are so many build numbers for the same region !
Look at Asus... they basically have only 2 builds..... 1 for US & 1 for WW ( worldwide )
try weeding through all those build numbers with tech supports and you can see why nobody can get a concrete answer.... due to the lack of being on the same page...etc
If any one who actually have contacts with Acer on the inside.... for Godsake.... relay this problem to their head of department, please !!
how difficult is that ??
Which I imagine is why a second update is being rolled out at the moment?
I suspect that the previous update did have issues and Acer has realised this and is attempting to resolve things. Pure conjecture on my part, but it seems odd to push two updates within a one week period.

New firmware certified for the Z1 14.2.A.1.114

What is it going to bring?
hopefully camera improvements, this (at least for me) is the main area that needs further improvements. we also need white balance and the ability to move apps to the SD.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/12/2...4-certified-for-xperia-z1-and-xperia-z-ultra/
I was amazed too! I guess it will be bug fixes, which we need.
Camera improvements too! I mean, you can take great photos with Manual, but you'll need time to set it up.

May be we'll have better RAM management, fix some issues of previous firmware.
We have to wait til beginning of Jan to get this update.

this isn't 4.4, neither it is just a minor bug fixes. I am not expecting a big list of additional features but we might see quite good number of bug fixes and few additional features (white balance) and some improvements because the build number is quite different from what we have. just like .257 update.
One thread was already closed few days ago when someone show up with a new Firmware update which should fix all the problems with the Z1. I really hope this one will be confirmed soon as I waiting for that. The number 1 is the most important thing that mean huge improvements and changes between 14.2.X.0.XXX and 14.2.X.1.XXX.
actually, this can be a decent update, the one that just came out was maybe tested and created as a core android 4.3 with same features and functionality across for Z1, Zu and Z phones. This upcoming update is probably ZU and Z1 both newer and S800 specific update with extra features. Could be why we still havent gotten an offical change log because they are still rolling out 4.3 for Z phones and probably update the change log together with this firmware for Z1. Who knows.

yes at present it is in testing but a firmware with 14.2.A.1.XXX will come soon either the same build certified or a higher one. ( hopefully by end of this year on in early week of JAn 2014 ).
Or if you've bought an unbranded one in UK you probably won't get it before your next new phone purchase. Never known an update take so long for sim free phones.

if you guys got the japanese one, the new firmware gives white balance option and some tweak to the battery save menu.
Nothing much else though.
also still not 4.3
Just hope this version will bring the bugs fix and also the 4.4 KitKat
