It would be super groovy kool if a 4g usb modem could work on the a7's usb host port, does anyone know if this is possible? Could some kind of app recognize and mediate between the usb modem and the wifi within the a7? Thanks in advance for answering the best you can. I am waiting on a verizon 4g hotspot but I was wondering...
My a7 is supposed to be delivered in the morning and I just got some Sprint 3g/4g usb's in.
I'll try to test in the next few days.

if it doesnt you can get a cradlepoint ctr350 router and plug your usb modem into that to make a hotspot and connect your a7 with wifi
The Cradlepoint works great! I use it all the time for wifi.
I tried it with my Option 452 but no luck.
Thanks for all the great advice! I think I will wait for the 4g hotspot, my mifi2200 is great but I am chompin' at the bit for 4gLTE!

like 3 tethering apps none of them since to work after update, any info?
They all work on CyanogenMod. <3
tethering works fine on cm6.
easytether is working just fine for me with 2.2 Froyo
same here. And 'funny' enough - when connect USB to comp - my 4G disappear. I didn't have to use anything on 2.1 - just usb sharing . Now tried all 3 progams with no luck. Other usb options are fine. Never rooted.
Thanks

Thats because you are suppose to leave usb as charge only, not usb tethering.
You don't pay for usb tethering, so sprint makes your mobile connection go away when trying to use it. So, use something like easytether, but keep it selected as Charge Only with usb debugging on

Thanks for the help. Is there a way to get 4G to work with that? I remember seeing a thread about fixing USB tethering but I cant seem to find it..
I'm currently using that USB Tethering Fix and it works great...
Actually this was posted from a laptop tethered to my phone, with a USB cable, one limitation as far as I know is that USB tethering doesn't seem to work with 4G, it causes 4G to disconnect, at least on the ROM that I'm running. So I'm looking for a fix for that, but it works great on 3G. I use Wireless Tether for 4G.
I'm running Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo
If 4G doesn't work, I'd rather use EasyTether. A bit more nuisance and if you want https you have to buy it, but I like getting 5Mb download in my office where otherwise 16 of us have to all share a single 1.5Mb connection.
wired tether is the king. it sneaks the internets straight from the sky to my phone to my computer. wireless tether and pda.net gets the internets from the sky and brags about it to my phone, gets whupped, and ends up all slow. android wired tether is cool with my phone, but my phone will only let it peddle the three gs to my computer. my phone wants to keep the four gs to itself, unless you slip $30 to its boss for that really hot stuff.
Hey guys I need some suggestions, what I want to do is use my computer downstairs to play wow. But I don't have a cord that that reaches all the way up stairs to the modem.
We do have wifi but this computer doesn't. So I want to use my MT4G as a USB Wifi adapter. I also don't want to buy one. I also don't receive any data service here. So I need to run of the wifi
I've tried Pda.net but it was way to slow to run anything, the rom i'm using is miui and when i try to tether through usb my comp says it cant find the program to install.
So if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

The answer is trivial:
Have your phone with WiFi connected, plug the phone, choose USB tether mode, and it will share its WiFi with the computer.
Tethering shares whatever connectivity the phone has at the moment. Obviously you can't share WiFi connectivity over WiFi, so WiFi hotspot won't work for you, but you can share WiFi connectivity over USB.
No program is needed, if MIUI guys coded it correctly - the virtual device is RNDIS, any Windows should have drivers for it.
If you have Mac - go back to Sense ROM that can share USB with Macs using some other virtual device mode.
I have been tethering my SGS2 (AT&T) with my laptop via USB with no problem using the SGS2 for data connection. I finally got a USB adaptor for my GT 10. It sees my SGS2 and says "High Powered USB Device Connected, Cannot connect to this device. Connected device needs external power supply."
I haven't found any threads regarding GT10 usb tether. Is this not possible?
Not possible. Drivers would be required.
I didn't want to mess with rooting my device(s) to get bluetooth or wifi tether. I tried setting my SGS2 as wifi hot spot and it works perfectly. My SGS2 is unlocked.

Easiest solution, no idea why people would try to tether via USB.
I was wondering the other day though, whether it would work if someone had a 3G USB stick and connected it to SGT.
USB Cable will not make any difference to speed
Tethering via Cable will not make any noticeable difference to the speed. Because the phone uses 3G to connect to internet and it is already quite slow from the max speed that can be supported via WiFi.
We have sketchy internet access at my office due to location so I actually tether my PC via USB to my SGS2 sometimes. Just curious if the GT10 could do it. I am also curious if it will work with a 3G USB Stick.
what mode is the sgs2 in when you connect it? can you connect in usb debugging mode to see if it shows up as a high powered device then? i only have a vibrant so i don't know what your exact options are.
3G USB Stick requires you to install a driver before using it. And I doubt that Network operators out there have got a driver for Android!
It is unlikely to work. Let us know if you find something special
why don't you just use the wifi tethering in the settings? no root, no hardware, no fuss.

Tethering over wifi or bluetooth can Bea battery hog. USB lets you tether without killing your phone's battery.

Won't help because Tab will not provide power to the phone, phone will still discharge quickly because of constant data transfer.
Another option would be a USB 3G stick maybe.
How can i use my wifi enabled mobile phone as wireless adapter for pc,for accessing internet on a desktop pc via usb(by not using mobile's 3g)?
I don't mean the usb tethering prosedure. If anybody knows. I have an old desktop pc without wireless adapter. I know that i could use a cheap wifi usb stick. I just want to know if this is possible.
While I know you can share the 3g connection with your phone, and you use to be able to use the computers wifi connection on the phone.... I don't think you could share the wifi connection with your computer. You can however, picked up a used usb one for a few dollars and a new one from newegg.com for $15.
While there may be a way to do it, .... you're asking a $300 phone to do the job of a simple adapter.

The currently available tethering on WP7 only shares your cellular data connection over WiFi.
There are indications that it might also be possible to share you're cellular data connection over e.g. USB, but I don't think that's been possible (even on unlocked devices) thus far.

a simple adapter (usb modem with a sim card) also does the job that usb tethering offers on optimus 7.
Thank you all for your answers. But i already know what are the currently available tethering (usb and with recently released firmware update internet sharing -cellular data- via wifi on wp7). I just asked if is possible to share phone's Wi-Fi connection to a pc (missing wifi adapter) via USB on wp7. That's all. If anybody knows please reply.

Well like I said, at the moment the only thing that works is Cellular -> WiFi.
WiFi -> USB might work after some registry changes but as far as I know nobody managed to this until now.
