Hey Guys,
So if you want to change the LCD density on your Gen8 (tested on the 70, should work on others but changes, as ever, are done at your own risk) without using the LCD Density Changer app then this is how...
I have had to do this as even with the Root +rw on file system, the LCD density changer changes didn't stick (probably OK for the others)
You will need to use the +rw file system mod as documented here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930197
(thanks Chulri!!)
Anyhoo... to business.
All you need to do for this is to add the following line into /system/build.prop:
ro.sf.lcd_density=XXX
Using rootexplorer was the easiest for me, I copied the file to dropbox, made the change on my computer and then recopied back into /system - note, if you use root explorer, make sure /system is mounted as RW, not RO
You will be able to abd push the file though if you don't want to use dropbox, but I couldn't find my cable when I did this
Reboot.
For some reason after changing lcd density, inputting text in landscape makes the whole textbox fill the screen,
Anyone else have that problem?
oi oi oi whats all this then?!

I see people have different fonts for UI elements. I download an app called flipfont but I can't find it in my drawer, is it now mytouch4g compatible? Or how do I do this?

you've seen different fonts on the mt4g?
What you need to do, is move the file to the system/fonts directory. You need to replace the DroidSans.ttf file with your font that you want (You have to name that font to DrodSans.ttf). Btw, you need to have root access .. also make sure the permissions on the file is the same as all the files in the fonts directory. Once I changed the font my phone started acting weird due to the font permissions not being set correctly. FYI I used root explorer. (Make a backup of DroidSans.ttf as well).
Please post questions in Q&A section.
I used the app named LCD dentist changer,it work well, but when i restart the phone ,it will go back to the default dentist.
Ha! I think you need to look for a different app called 'LCD Density' then. Joking.
If that's not working then just edit the build.prop file from /system and change it to what you want.
Open the Build.prop file in /system (I use Droid explorer on my pc to do this.)
Edit the lcd_density=
value to your liking.
Note that some apps won't render properly, if this happens, disable 'Run in compatible mode' in Spare Parts app.
It's ok now,thanks,guys
worth noting that you can edit the build.prop file before you even install the rom.
Hey Guys, I updated and rooted my phone to 2.3.4 HK...
Anyways, I remember seeing a post about an app that lets you enable the whole screen.
It appears that I have some dead space on the main home screen and I can not place any widgets in it (Its in the bottom)...
Any way I can fix that ? I cant remember the app name for the life of me.
thank you,
Alex
Hey, just use root explorer or shell in order to edit the build.prop in your system folder (or just use CWM and mount your /system folder to your computer). in the build.prop, there is a section that describes the ppi and for some reason, it's set as default to 240. Change it to 275 and it should fix all screen issues.
thanks for your response!! I checked thru Root Explorer, and only found
dpi... not PPI.. is that what you meant? Cause I see that listed as 240.
Also, do I need to reset after the edit?
Thanks a lot!!
The stock launcher seems to be messed up, get a different launcher.

Some people have complained about the resulting effects of changing the build.prop file with this fix. Better to just use a different launcher than stock as was said.
LCD density for root I believe it is the 270 setting you need to select.

Hi there,
I am a user of the Redux2 HD2 ROM. With my own set 192 DPI. However as you will probably know many apps do not show up (cus of the old market, new one you'll see its "incomapatable"). And i was wondering if there was any fix for this. problem that sloves it well.
Now you have to change the DPI back, reboot, install apps, change DPI, reboot. There must be another way to this.
Since the HD2 has such an huge screen it is (imo) waaaaaaay more comfortable then the stock (oversized icons) 240DPI.
I agree that the 240 dpi makes the icons (and the whole display) too big for HD2. The ROM I use, had 167 dpi as default, but this caused compatibility problems to the newest Market app, so I changed it to 160. Here's how:
Install File Expert (file explorer). (you can use your preffered explorer for this, but keep in mind that you need to have root access and be able to change file permissions!)
Browse to /sdcard/Android/
Click to edit "startup.txt" & chose an editor (I use TED text editor)
Edit the lcd_density=167 to lcd_density=160
Exit editor saving the file
Browse to Internal storage/system/
Long click on "build.prop" and change permissions to get full access to the file.
Long click on "build.prop" and Open as.. text (Using TED text editor)
Scroll all the way down till you find & edit the ro.sf.lcd_density=167 to ro.sf.lcd_density=160
Exit editor saving the file.
Exit File Expert
Open Application Manager and go to Market
Select "Details/Clear cache/Force stop"
Click "Force stop" & "OK"
Click "Clear data" & "OK"
Exit App Manager
Open the Rom Manager app.
Touch "Fix Permissions"
Re-boot
This setting of 160 dpi might seem too small to you (compared to the 192 that you use) but trust me, after a couple of days you will like it and you won't have issues with the Market!

I think the question was more of trying to find a way around the DPI problem, not just changing it.
What if change the product name from HD2 to other native Android device in build.prop?
Could this work?

No since it wont change the fact that it uses a DPI that is not standard.
And i tested the 160 DPI and for some reason my rom (Redux2 HD2) is not compatable with those DPI settings (white statusbar if app is open) And some other weird glitches
Try this market, it's the old one but it's modified so the DPI isnt checked.
I use it and never had the problem of apps not showing up (as far as i know)
Just flash it in CWM or take the vending.apk inside the zip and move it to the /system/app/ folder on your phone
Please tell me if it helped.

Hey Guys,
I have an S7 Edge and was always able to change the DPI via any common method.
For some weeks it´s somehow not possible. I tried while on various ROMs.
I tried via editing Build.prop, Android Terminal App, DPI Changing Apps and via Terminal on Mac and Windows.
It just doesnt work....
I noticed that being on BobCat ROM it works.... But with no other ROM. I tried them all on XDA.
Does anybody have an idea why and/or how to fix this?
I appreciate every reply.
You need to have root acces and use a file manager (I use Solid Explorer), open build.prop with the Solid Explorer built in editor (SE Text editor) and find and change the following line:
ro.sf.lcd_density=560
(560 is the best value that you can apply, anything bellow that dpi messes up the touchwiz apps).
Save the file and presto!!!
I hope this can help.
Best regards!!!
Not working. Build.prop shows the new value but no visual change is seen
Did you restart your device?
